《The Spark of Balance: The Realm of Mianite (Book 1)》Ch38- My best friend

Sonja POV-
Though she hated Jordan for what she had done, it wasn't hard to imagine. After all, she had done something similar a while back.
When the shadows first arrived, he had promised her a reward for a small price, a mission that required almost nothing from her.
She accepted.
Her mission was simple, steal Tom's fish during all the commotion of the shadows arrival. As Tom was freaking out in his house she would go in and steal his beloved fish, in return, she would get a nice bow for the next purge.
It seemed like a harmless deal, it didn't mean she turned to his side, it was just a small job.
As she sat on her boat outside of Tom's house that day pretending to be out fishing, she thought of turning back once or twice. The thought of betraying her friends...no...her family, it was unbearable.
Though she ended up stealing the fish, her reward hadn't come just yet. Now, Jordan was his new champion! How could she bare betraying her friends like that!
What Sonja did was just to steal a fish, no big deal. Jordan...she killed them without hesitating.
That day when she saw her best friend look her in the eyes and blow her up, it was like a night mare. When she spawned back home, it felt like she had woken up from a dream.
They had searched for weeks. No sign of her. No goodbye letter, no apology, nothing.
Sonja had no right to judge, but she was still upset.
They had all lost all their good stuff, even now they were all still recovering from that. Aside from items, they were hurt emotionally too, specially Tom.
Tucker was just salty as always, going on about how unfair that was and how he could have killed her if he wasn't off guard, just usual Tucker. Tom had always been somewhat sensitive to things, always reacting with anger and force, but not this time. He was a mess, filled with doubtful revenge.

He still lived in Jordan's house surprisingly. Sonja would come check up on him from time to time, one day she heard him talking late at night.
"How could you do this! I thought we were friends! How could you want to follow a guy that wants to kill us all? Is it because I'm mean to you sometimes? Or because I'm a monster? Maybe it because Tucker can be an ass sometimes, or because he and Sonja haven't hung out with you as of late! Maybe you just hated the Modesteps and Nade so much it drove you crazy! Whatever it is, I'll find you so you can explain it to me! If this truly is about Ianite I'll kill him! How can someone turn one of the nicest people on this island and make them into a monster? Whoever did this will pay, and if it was just you, then you will pay for hurting the little family I have now...Sparkly pants...please prove me wrong."said Tom
That had broken her heart. She didn't get to see Tom's emotional side too much or too often, it was far from enjoyable. That also made her wonder which of his ideas was right, that thought had kept her up at night more than once ever since.
All she wanted was her best friend back, she was the only girl friend she had. In all honesty, it was very lonely before Jordan came to the island. Sure she had Tucker, but she had no one to have girl talks with until she arrived. Last time she had talked to another girl was before her village was destroyed as a child, almost a lifetime ago it seemed.
Then, Tom rushed into her room and began screaming out of nowhere. Instant panic filled her lungs.

"What the hell Tom!" She screamed
"I just overheard something I think. I'm not to sure but I think Jordan and the Shadows are planning on confronting the gods! I heard Nade say something along those lines to Josh!"
"What!?" She said amused
"Yeah, apparently it will be outside the island today!"
"They can kill eachother there, its outside the respawn area." Said Tucker as he came in to the room.
"What do we do?" Asked Sonja
"Honestly I think this is all a test for Nade still. There is no way the gods would go out to an area where a crazy man could kill them!" Assured Tom
"Maybe we should go, just in case our gods need help."said Sonja
"Right. If it is as Tom suspects then we just get to see Nade embarras himself. When is the meeting?" said Tucker
"I don't know, I think he said nightfall or something" said Tom
"Then we will be there a little after sunset. Let's hope this goes well for us..." said Tucker
With that, the three of them began getting ready. Sonja wasn't afraid, but rather confused. Nothing really made sense, the shadows felt real, but it did seem like something Dinate would do.
With weapons in hand, the champions got on their small boats and rowed away from the island towards their destination. Sonja tried to hold back her worries and instead rowed by Tucker's side.

Someday, he’ll find where his family went. Someday, he’ll uphold his end of the bargain and hunt beings powerful beyond anything he’s ever known. Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent
