《The Spark of Balance: The Realm of Mianite (Book 1)》Ch.1- The impossible

Claire POV:
Claire was on her way to school, just a normal day like any other.
She didn't have a particularly exciting life since she had very strict and controlling parents, and by parents she mean her father.
Claire's mother was always incredibly sweet and kind and wished her more freedom, but her father always had a tendency to control everything, amongst those things is her life. That made life a little more boring than most.
Claire was a college student at the moment, just turned 18 during the winter of her first year. Though unusual, she always been a year ahead, making her the youngest of her class.
It didn't help that she was short as well, being 5'4 gets quite annoying, making it easy for everyone to believe that she did skip a grade and thus treat her like a kid. But regardless, Claire was comfortable with her boring average life at this point.
That being said, she never thought that the smallest thing could change an entire life.
Some say that when strange things happen its because you are at the wrong place, at the wrong time. No other sentence could describe today as perfectly as that.
As she got her backpack ready along with her gym bag (since today was workout day), she realized what today was. Today was the last day of the winter quarter at school.
Great.
She had studied endlessly for all finals last night, and was quite confident in the way things would turn out.
As her father dropped her off mid afternoon, she realized there was more than enough time till it was time for finals. The problem now was, what to do with all that time...
After much contemplating she decided to go to her favorite place on campus, the science building.
Some would call it her second home since that's where she spent most of her time. Being a Physics major was a lot more fun than it sounds, though the first word that comes to mind when people asked is that she must be such a nerd...and she is... but its the only subject that she is excels at.
Since Claire is specializing in chemical and applied physics, her classes tended to be rather male dominated.

It was no big deal, just that she has a lot to prove and throughout time earn their respect, that's why she didn't have very many female friends.
Or any friends.
Having to prove herself so much had caused Claire to become quite competitive, and it heightened her love for science. So it wasn't all bad.
It had always been her goal to make a difference in the world, but her secluded environment has kept her from being able to do much, such as making friends, hence the reason why there was no one to spend the afternoon with.
Lost in thought, she accidentally bumped into someone. When she looked up, Claire got a good look at his face. He was rather handsome but looked incredibly flustered. His lab coat was stained and his eyes were wide with fear.
At first, she thought she startled him to the point of a heart attack, but he was lost in his thoughts, mumbling equations and something about how all had gone seriously wrong.
Being a scientist, she stopped him from leaving and said " Hey are you ok, I mean of course your not but you seem out of it. Is there..um..is there anything I can do to help?"
Well she just made a fool of herself.
'Why do I always mumble so much around others' she thought.
" I apologize for bumping into you love. I'm just doing this new experiment and may have done something I shouldn't have. I don't think you can help though, this is very complicated physics I'm dealing with, but I appreciate it." He said.
That set her off completely, it shouldn't have but the truth is she probably knew more about physics than him.
" Listen 'love', I'm smarter than you think. If anybody can fix what you messed up its probably me. So lead the way." Claire sounded a lot more confident than she actually was and he seemed to have bought the confidence because he gave her a nod followed by one of those rare dreamy smiles and led the way.
She might as well go with him, having nothing else to do for hours, that and she had a horrible tendency to help people, just couldn't help it.

When they got to the large lab room at the end of the hall Claire saw what he was talking about. This place was incredibly messy, something that would have triggered her OCD under normal circumstances but there was something else that grabbed her attention away from that. There was a large whole in the room, like a worm whole! It was somewhat stable to the point were she was somewhat convinced it wouldn't kill her, maybe.
What was she thinking? Of course it was safe right? Its a college campus, not a research lab.
Famous last words.
Suddenly the worm whole started acting up as if it was suddenly activated, and since she was closest, of course it started to drag her in first.
In all of her life, she had never been more scared, logically none of this was possible! The mysterious good looking guy grabbed on to the door and tried to catch her hand to keep her from falling through. Desperately she fought to reach him, screaming for his help.
He was to late.
Last thing she remembered was darkness and a faint scream, then nothing.
Suddenly, Claire felt someone dragging her arm, but the sun was to bright to see who it could be. It took her a second to recall what had just happened, when she did she quickly tried to bring herself up on her feet and make a run home to her parents. But when she finally got to look the area, it didn't look familiar at all.
Where on earth was she?
That place looked like a beach, with what seemed like no buildings for miles. Then again there were mountains in the way. There were no roads or signs, just sand and a vast ocean ahead.
Claire turned back to look at who had been dragging her in the first place to get an explanation.
"This isn't real. This cant be" she thought.
The person who was with her was a tall man that looked like he was in his early twenties. But there was something off about him, his skin, it was green!? He had a sword in hand, a tuxedo, and a friendly smile. One of those is not like the others so she kept her guard up.
" Hi! My name is Tom. I saw you fall from the sky into the river. Do you feel ok?" He said calmly as if not to frighten her more than she already was.
"Where..where am I?" she asked, trying to get up at the same time.
Big mistake.
That's when she noticed her body was hurting all over. Well apparently she fell from the sky and it sure felt like it, she couldn't even keep herself upright.
"Please don't strain yourself, you are severely injured. I mean you fell 100 feet. Don't worry, I'll take you to my friend, he should have some healing potions for you." Tom then leaned to scooped her up in his arms, or tried to.
As he got closer, Claire backed away as fast as possible but his friendly smile and her inability to move made for an easy surrender.
If her head and body didn't hurt so much she may have screamed for help. Having a green stranger cary her to an unknown friend sounds like something that shouldn't be trusted.
After a few minutes of silence he finally spoke again.
" I know you must be in sock and everything but can you at least let me know your name?"
She WAS in shock, but not because of the fall, but rather because she knew who he was.
Her sister had made her watch a Minecraft game play she loved called Mianite. And this guy looked exactly like Syndicate...
"Yep dreaming, or I'm dead" she thought.
Since this wasn't real she decided there would be no harm in talking to him.
" My name is Claire, Claire Johansen. It's nice to meet you I guess".
Then he gave her the biggest smile in the world and immediately said
" Then Claire, welcome your face to the world of Mianite".
****
Hope you enjoy it!
-Love,
Lady Claire

Valor and Violence
Valor and Violence is a series of short stories following different, yet all equally colourful, characters set in the same world. Birth of a Legend, the first short, follows Captain Erskine Erwell, a newly promoted Captain in the Calandorian Royal Navy, charged with protecting his people from all who would do them harm. Great news for the Calandorian citizens, bad news for the Skjar reavers that ravage the shores in search of slaves. But when a small reaver fleet slips the net and escapes to the southern jungles of Marduk, Erwell must fight a war on two fronts; one against the raiders, and a far more difficult war against the hostile landscape. If he can't find allies in this strange land, he may end up being the one in need of saving. The first part of the second short story will be uploaded on Saturday, the 11th of June, following Ferez Ahud, an aspiring young battlemage charged with the unsavoury job of 'terminating' a rogue member of his college. But how this nobody of a mage became a fugitive remains a mystery, and when the answer is discovered, the tables are turned and the hunter becomes the prey. I'll be uploading chapters of more in-universe short stories each week or as close to, work permitting. Content Guidelines: course language and violence
8 99Apex Predator
Earth is a fairly small place, but it's all Bath has. It's the only home he's ever known for all of his 500-or-so-million years of life. One day, Bath realized his treasured Earth was being drawn into the next mass extinction ahead of schedule. So, fascinated by the humans and their quick rise to power (after all, setting off a mass extinction is a pretty sizable achievement), what's a nearly all-powerful, somewhat bored, morally ambiguous, savagely violent, shapeshifting alien entity to do other than assume the form of a human and do some front-line investigating? Little did Bath know he would soon stumble upon a mysterious human organization with a gate leading to planets eons away. And that's just the beginning... A story with aliens, intergalactic space travel, mind powers, and an abundance of adventure! Author's note: ON HIATUS! Hello and thank you for reading! Constructive criticism and grammar-policing are both appreciated. Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are complete at 1271 pages! Part 7 is in progress! If you've ever read any other web serials, you might've noticed that authors get better with time (that is, their art or writing improves). Wutosama of Metaworld Chronicles noted that the first 20 chaps are always a mess. This is also the case with Apex Predator. The first two parts (ranging just under 30 chapters, or 161 pages) are absolutely subpar. While I have edited them as of 7-10-18, they require a rewrite, which is currently in the works but not complete. For a sample that gives insight into what the latter ~80% of the story's writing style is like, check out chapter 56. Vote for Apex Predator on Top Web Fiction! The Apex Predator Discord is here. Cover: original work done by me, the author, caerulex.

David goes to bed after a depressing day grieving over a lost friend, however he wakes up to a new world with magic, a system, and more! Note:The Title is a placeholder. The Picture is a placeholder. I am not a professional writer, please critique the series as you see fit. This is probably going to be a cliche dumpster fire. Thanks for any support. Word count per chapter: 1000 - 3500.
