When May Alana's wish on a star brings a stranger to her remote island home, the pair must survive a deadly magical conflict in order to be together.

*****

When May Alana, a scorned and anxiety-ridden young woman, finds a stranger on the beach of her remote island home, she wonders if this is the adventurous, accepting, and loving answer to her otherwise cloistered life. But as the pair grow closer, the stranger entrusts May with her brilliant secret: that she is half-Star in possession of otherworldly powers, and that a violent group of Star worshippers are out to destroy her. So if they want any chance of being together, they'll have to survive a deadly conflict between humans and mythological creatures first.

Author of the Starborn Series and more!

Wattpad Star Paid Stories Author

I carried many of the characters of this story in my head for nearly twenty years before I finally sat down to write The Star and the Ocean. It wasn't until I came out as bisexual that the story really came together and I was able to start writing. For me, sharing May and Em's story with the world was my way of participating in the queer community at a time when I still felt really invisible in my own identity.

This is a tough question to answer because I haven't had to do a lot of research for my books. Usually, I write what I know, and the subject matter and settings are informed by my own lived experiences or interests.

My best friend told me about Wattpad back when I was first starting work on The Star and the Ocean. I was looking for a way to share the story with people, but I didn't think I was ready for self publishing, nor did I feel like this was a story I wanted to query traditionally. She didn't use the platform herself, but she—a fellow author— had heard a lot of great things — and she was right!

I would absolutely love to sit down with Noelle Stevenson, showrunner of "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power". She's a talented queer artist and storyteller, and She-Ra is my absolute favourite show. I'd love to pick her brain and talk with her about art and creating compelling stories and dynamic characters like Adora and Catra.

I'm an artist, so when I'm not writing I'm usually drawing. I also recently took up sculpting, which has been a fun new challenge! Outside of that, I'm almost always reading, I do yoga every day to help manage my mental health, and I'm OBSESSED with true crime podcasts (what's up, Murderinos? SSDGM)

I identify as a bisexual woman!

After four years and three books, I finally finished the Starborn Series on Wattpad—the series that starts with The Star and the Ocean—in April. I'm still working on a couple of fanfics, which I've been posting on my profile, and I'm revising a novel with the help of an editor through the #RevPit program. I plan on querying it to literary agents next month!

Omg, yes! I love , , , , , , ... SO MANY!

I think the advice that has served me best over the years is "you can't edit a blank page". I spent so much time feeling like I needed to have everything figured out before I could start writing. I'm so glad I finally got over that though, because if I had waited, I probably never would have started. Don't worry about whether you have a perfect idea or if you're "good enough" — just start! You can work on making your story better later — that's what revisions are for!

Hoo boy, uh... I guess I'd have to pick "Dirty Paws" by Of Monsters and Men, "Shimmer" by Fuel, and "Feel Good Inc." by Gorillaz.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for doing this interview with us, ! We truly enjoy your work and we're honored to have you with us.

Some of us, much like Maggie, can whip up a masterpiece without a lot of research because we work best on the spot. The rest of us take comfort in the research process and often take some time to build up our masterpiece.

Here's our question... how much research do you do before starting something new?

Warmest vibes,
