When her fiancé ends up in a coma and his secret mistress, Halley, shows up, Mary feels like her world is falling apart. What she doesn't realize is she's actually falling in love...with Halley.

*****

Eight years after a traumatizing accident that killed one of her loved ones, Mary Kincaid is about to marry her childhood sweetheart when the universe yanks the rug out from under her yet again, leaving her fiancé badly injured and in a coma. Of course this is when his secret mistress shows up, a beautiful person whom Mary should by all rights hate - so why does she find herself inviting her to stay in the spare bedroom? She soon learns that sometimes the person you're looking for comes when you're not looking at all.

I was on a huge writing spree in 2017 after some years of not writing at all; I wrote in ten weeks flat, followed by (which is a book I truly love and I'm always surprised at the few readers it has!). As I was wrapping that one up the inspiration for Mary hit. I just had a small flash (I think in pictures) of a young woman rushing to her injured boyfriend's bedside, only to meet a captivating stranger. I knew Mary identified as straight up until that point, but I also know sexuality is a tricky thing and rarely set in stone! A pleasant surprise for me was Leif, Mary's best friend, popping up to fill his role as a secondary character. I began writing it with just the hospital scene in my mind, and the story just basically told itself along the way. Mary and Halley's love turned out to be even far more beautiful than I'd ever imagined, which happily sometimes happens. I did have the title from the beginning though it was partly a joke in my mind; my mom loves the movie "When Harry Met Sally" and for some reason as I pictured the hospital scene I thought "it'll be When Mary Met Halley"! And so it was. I love crows, and put Poe into the book so everyone could get a glimpse at how fascinating and intelligent they are. Mary's "head radio"--that is, a song always playing in her head, like a radio without ads--comes from my own brain, which is always playing something. Right now it happens to be Tupac's Changes. And that's just exactly how glimpses of characters grow and evolve into a novel, bits and pieces added together like ingredients in a recipe.

I do research along the way if something comes up that I need to know more about. My books are rarely planned out or outlined in any way other than a vague general idea; I find out what's going to happen as I write them. I definitely do try to know what I'm talking about if I tackle or include something I'm unfamiliar with or haven't experienced personally.

I love the band Twenty One Pilots, and another fan recommended Wattpad to me, specifically telling me to check out (one of my soon-to-be favorite authors) Taylor Hale. I joined in September of 2017 and began uploading my books shortly thereafter. My first reader (in real life and on Wattpad; I was always pretty private with my storytelling!) was a wonderful person named Naira, and she inspired me greatly while finishing Mary. I love Wattpad; the stories, the writers, the readers, and especially the comments! Being able to interact with stories and having people interact with mine is something I truly love. Having so much feedback gives me an excellent idea of what's working and what would work better; comments from readers have helped my writing maybe more than anything else. I have met and gotten to know many wonderful people along the journey because of the comment feature. I've met some amazing friends, such as Reylen, Tiffany, whom I now consider family, and of course Tay, Stef, Cynthia, Red, Zeeadaj, Hexed, ThirwallEdwards, CClaus90, and so many others!

I have a bunch of people on this list, but would love to meet with Tyler Joseph of TOP; my crew has some questions for him!

I am a mom to an awesome eight year old; she is autistic and gifted, same as I am, so we understand each other quite well. She is amazing and I spend most of my free time with her. I help others with questions they have about autism and its coexisting conditions; I have a little nonfiction book put together in my stories on Wattpad with more information about all of it. When not under stay-at-home orders, I do fun stuff with my best friend in real life. I have an incredible group of friends on social media who have changed my life much for the better, and I definitely spend time with them to ground me throughout the day. Reading has always been a part of my life too, of course. I catch some shows when I am able; I love Call the Midwife, The Santa Clarita Diet, Schitt's Creek, Atypical, Sherlock, SPN, Insatiable, Good Omens, Wynonna Earp, Sex Education, Witcher; I could go on but I won't.

I am attracted to someone regardless of their gender-identity/sex and pan feels like the right label to me personally.

I just finished up this year, and am working on the sequel to Mary (I promise, I promise!), which is about halfway finished. I am also working on a new book which will have new adult and teen characters, some of whom are queer. I am excited to get this one going and trying to write each day on it at least a little (the procrastination is real, especially during the shelter-in-place order).

I love so many authors, that's a tough one! Check out my reading list on my profile for some of my friends and faves!

Just write. Write about what you know, but not exclusively, because that wouldn't be very interesting for you, and if the writer's bored the story will be boring. Research what you don't know and mix it with what you do. And sometimes it's good to write about what disturbs you, and what hurts. Not all the time, of course, but get it into books and out of your head, especially because there are people out there who will relate to it and maybe need to hear about others going through similar things. My friend Christian once said "we use stories to process and relate to reality" and that is so true of both writers and readers. Stories are an integral part of navigating life, imparting us not only with knowledge, but often empathy/compassion for a person or situation we might otherwise have never understood. This serves us in real life, of course, in relating to others and coexisting in general. Many times I've had a reader despise one of my antagonists to begin with, then grow to realize why they are the way they are. I've had readers who view a fictional family situation as appalling and nearly unbelievable, while other readers are nodding and commenting how it's just like home. Books give us a look into other lives, other worlds, and other minds, while at the same time often validating our own feelings and situations. They are almost magical in this way.

I love every Twenty One Pilots song ever made so that's a really hard decision and I'm terrible with decisions! But I'll say my favorite song Holding On To you, the remix to Ride that a fan illicitly recorded at a secret pop-up show, and Jumpsuit. I am also extremely into Watsky right now, a highly gifted and talented artist, and recommend checking him out.
