《Maeve》ChapterThirtyThree: When He Still Had A Heart

A boy no older than nine winters old was watching through a frozen window. Never had he seen a winter so cold and brutal. Even he himself had to dress like a bear to survive inside the walls.
His father had left him alone in there. He left just before Christmass leaving the boy to spend his Christmas with the servant people. The boy couldn't deny the hurt he felt when the closest person to him decided to spend one of the biggest celebrations of the year with whores than with his own flesh and blood.
Dominic took a deep breath and draw a Christmas tree to the smoke on the window. He could see it on his eyes how beautiful the Great Hall will look like at Christmas. How candles on the chandelier would light up the whole cold room, how the smell of food would make people drool. And the best part of it was the presents.
Like every other child of his age, he loved presents more than anything. When you opened them and drank a cup of hot chocolate at the same time was one of his favorite things to do. Of course, his father always had to disagree on that.
In his point of view, his son had to be as cold-hearted as him if not even more. A thing so small as a gift shouldn't warm his heart. A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.
"Come in," He muttered and swiped the Christmas tree off the window. A boy who was the same age as he walked in.
"Did you hear the news?" Caspian asked and walked next to his cousin.
"What news?"
The cousin of the future king looked out of the window trying to figure out if he was back already. "Your father is coming back."
Dominic almost fell off his chair, "Why?" Could it possibly be true? Did he really choose his heir over the beautiful women?
Caspian shrugged, "I don't know, mom just said that he is coming home for Christmass." The two boys stayed in silence. Dominic thinking about all the possible scenarios of why his father decided to return and Caspian looking at his cousin with a question mark over his head.
"Where is Marié?" The heir asked.
"Mom?" Dominic nodded, "Probably close to the gates or in the market square."
"I hate that place" The boy muttered.
"I think it's great, the smells and fo-" Caspian said.
"It is a place full of misery and death. Do you know how many people have lost their heads in there?" Dominic interrupted him. The last thing he needed right now was the memory of his mother's death.
Caspian blinked. "You mean the vegetables, right?" He couldn't understand what he was talking about. He is probably just meaning all the poor vegetables that have been cut in half on there.
"I mean the people with beating heart and a soul inside them." The green-eyed cousin was about to protest when his eyes noticed a large figure riding towards the castle.
"He's here."
No more words were shed as the two cousins ran towards the king of werewolves. Marié, Caspian's mother, was already standing close to the door with a couple of soldiers.
"What are you doing in here, Dominic?" She whispered as her eyes widened.

"To see my father."
Marié cursed in her mind. There is no way that she is allowing her nephew to see as his father comes home covered in blood.
"I bet he is tired from the journey. What if you will go to the library and I will tell your father to go there as soon as he has relaxed a bit?" Please, she wanted to add but left it to be only a thought.
"Okay?" He muttered and left the woman to be with her son and brother.
As soon as the future king left the room Caspian opened his mouth, "Why did you do that?"
Marié crunched down and kissed her son's forehead, "Go to eat something, you look way too skinny." Never in his life had Caspian disrespected his mother's command and was not planning to do so. He walked away just in time before Caesar Déasun walked in with thick dark red blood covering his clothes.
"Marié," he muttered. "Where is Dominic?"
The woman took a deep breath, "Why do you want to know?" Please don't let it be what she thought.
"We are going to hunt. So where is he?" Caesar raised his voice a little knowing the effect it had on his sister. When it didn't seem to work he took
"Shouldn't you change y-your clothes first?"
"Why? They are going to get dirty anyway." He said and took his sword to his hands. The blade was bloody and a little bit rusty. Many times had many tries to make him take a new sword but he always declined. The little rust on it made it even more painful to the person he is going to stab. "The boy has to learn how to be a fierce leader." He muttered as he looked at the blade. Pain, as he called his sword was going to be the item his son is going to be using on all the battles and his son after that.
"He could also be raised to be a kind and a fair king," she whispered. Her nephew is a kind-hearted boy with a huge responsibility in his future. Marié doesn't want to see him rule the kingdom with the ways of his father.
A hand made an impact with her throat. "Do you doubt me as a king?" He spat on her face. It didn't matter to him that they shared their blood. She was just a barrier between him and his son.
It began to be hard for her to breath making her decision mandatory. "He is in the library," She finally whispered gasping breath as her brother left the room.
"I'm so sorry, Dominic." She whispered before letting the tears run down her cheeks. Ever since they became orphans Ceasar turned his heart harder than ice and never let anyone warm it, not even his own son. In Marié's mind, everything became way worse when he found out that his mate was a woman who sold herself for money.
Marié had once met Lottie by accident and she was a sweet but free-spirited woman. Her dark grey eyes and blond hair made her irresistible and that if something threw Cedar off the edge. Needless to say, Lottie is a dead woman and has been one for a while.

He touched her neck. She could still feel his hands around her neck.
"Why do you let him do this to you, my love?" The voice of her beloved interrupted her thoughts making her remove her hands around her own neck.
Casper walked down the stairs with a walking stick. "What are you doing in here? You should be resting."
"I heard voices." He said and crouched next to her sitting mate.
"Let's go to bed," Marié mumbled but made no effort to stand up. Everything in her was exhausted. She couldn't deal with this anymore. Her brother is a monster and there is nothing no one could ever do to fix it.
She took another deep breath before praying that her nephew will never be like his father, a monster without a heart. Hopefully, he will find his mate and not kill her but love her with the frozen heart Ceasar will give him as he grows up.
As Marié was giving up on everything even including her own son who she loved from all of her heart, Dominic stood next to a fireplace letting the warmth warm her frozen arms. Like said earlier the winter was too cold to anyone live on it.
Something wasn't right, he could feel it in his bones.
A large hand touched his shoulder. Without even turning to look at the person behind him he knew who it was. Turning around he saw a pair of green eyes looking at him. After seeing his eyes Dominic's eyes wandered around noticing the blood that was covering his clothes.
"What happened to you, Father?" Ever since the boy could remember his father has forbidden him to call him with anything else that isn't the word 'father'.
Ignoring the question Cader took his sword from his hips and gave it to his son.
"What is this?"
Crunching down at the same level as his son Ceasar patted Dominic's head, "This, my son, is the thing that will save you and your loved one's life."
Looking at the rusty sword he noticed blood covering it, "I don't want this."
Ceasar muttered something to himself before forcing the sword to his son's hands. "A great leader has to have a great weapon. This, Dominic, is a sword that will bring you defender so much pain that they will wish that they are dead when it only scratches their skin." Not only was it rusty but a sword made by the dark witches that practiced black magic.
"I don't know how to use it."
The King smirked and whispered to his son's ear, "Then we need to practice, don't we?"
Months went by and after every day Dominic developed to be a better swordsman, when he turned ten he was already better with swords than his father.
Days went by and Ceasar taught to his son how to be a great fighter. One day he bought him to a town next to a sea in sector five. Sector five has been known as the town of fish and seafood. It is also one of the richest sectors in the seven sectors in the kingdom. Not knowing the reason why his father brought him there, Dominic was excited to see a new environment.
How different looking people walked in the streets. It was also the first time he ever encountered a witch. Grey hair and soulless eyes were how he always had thought them looking like and how wrong had he been. The witch he saw was gorgeous. Her deep red hair and emerald green eyes made her stand out the mass of people.
"Focus on the mission," Caesar muttered under his breath noticing how his son didn't focus on the human next to the harbor.
"What is the mission?"
"See that son of a bitch there?" He nodded to the direction of the human man.
The boy nodded.
"I need you to kill him with the sword I once gave you."
Dominic stopped, "What has he done to be deserved to die?" Caesar led his son to a secluded street.
"He's a human." Noticing the confused look on the boy's face he continued, "Humans are the trash of our generation. The man I showed you is the reason why your mother is dead." It was true, or at least in Caesar's mind. The bastard at the harbor is the reason why Lottie wanted to leave him. No one leaves him.
No one.
And they who have tried to betray him will pay it with their life. No exceptions, not even his own mate and mother of his son.
The human man is the reason why his mate is dead. All the humans are a waste of air and food and they do nothing good while they breathe. The man will die, he will suffer when blood will fill his lungs and crows starts to eat his eyes as he is suffocating from his own blood. The blood of the mate stealer. The blood of a living piece of shit.
FIve minutes later the human man whose name was Mark Yolling was coughing in his own blood as the future king ripped his heart out at the age of ten.
After that, they killed Mark's entire family including his pregnant sister and sick grandfather. They were all humans who were living peacefully in a cottage next to the shore. Not only was it a brutal murder but it was also the cause of the genocide of humans in the next ten years.
A month after month Caesar managed to make Marié's nightmare come true. Dominic reminded his father in many ways, if not by the way he looks but the way he sees the world. Many told him that he doesn't even have a mate because his heart is too hard to be conquered. Even the most known oracles told him that making it the only thing he values in his life.
No one will ever hurt him.
If you want to hurt someone you need to strike on their weakness. His father always taught him that having a weakness is a key to the doom. Seeing how powerful his father was without a soulmate nagging about everything he had done, Dominic promised to himself that if a miracle happens and a soul has been tied to his he is going to kill her. No matter who she is he is not going to allow her to change him to be a weak son of a bitch.
Or that is what he told himself before he met the only one that had the chance of melting his heart.
A human girl who was his key to the doom.
