《Maeve》ChapterThirty: The Beauty On The Moonlight
Advertisement
A little girl was looking through a window. The sky was as black as a raven with only a moon giving light to the travelers who seek a place to stay. The girl's family always warned her from going outside on the full moon. She couldn't understand why? Every single one of her siblings goes outside when the moon on its brightest.
She saw as her siblings Kathryn, Noah, Sophie, Kiera, and William ran to the dark forest.
"Mother? Can I go too?" The girl with a strawberry blonde hair squealed. She wanted to know what they are always doing in the woods.
Alison turned to look at her youngest child. How much would she have wanted for her to be like her siblings? For her to be in the place of not being afraid of being forced into a slavery by the supernatural.
"Maybe at the next time," the mother smiled knowing that she could never let her go to the wolf's den.
"I can reach them if I run fast." The girl whispered making the puppy face. Her mother didn't fall for her pleading. She had to be tough for her baby's safety. If she wouldn't be her only child that was like her would end up in ripped shreds.
"What if I would tell you a story instead?" Maeve lifted her head from the window and nodded.
"Come here then," Her mother said and the girl ran to the hem of Alison's dress. Alison laughed and carried her daughter to the nearest bench and sat down making her daughter sat on her lap.
"Once upon a time, there was a young woman who loved being different. At her time women with brains were despised. The woman didn't care about people thinking she is weird in their small village. She wanted to be her own self not caring what other people think."
Alison turned to look at the small girl on her lap. She had closened her eyes to really focus on the story.
"One day a man came to her father and asked if he could marry his daughter. The father declined and kicked the man out if his small cabin. Never will he marry his daughter off to a man who has a popularity with women. His daughter was his pride and joy, she was so beautiful with her brown long locks looking like a perfect image of her mother.
The man who was turned down boiled from anger. He was a very handsome man with power and money that made him irresistible with women. He could have had any woman he wanted to expect the most beautiful girl in the village. He plotted that the girl's father left the village to visit another city at the hope of money.
The woman cried for her father being gone. She missed him so much even though he had been gone only for a few hours." The red-haired woman started to braid her daughter's long hair.
"A day went by before the man came to ask for her hand. The woman declined because she knew they weren't meant to be together. She wanted to find a true love and marry that person and not a man who only cares about her appearance.
The man came every day back and every time he didn't get the answer he was waiting for. The woman finally decided to run away and go get her father back. She couldn't stand at being at home alone with a man at the door who made her feel very anxious.

While she was walking in the woods she met a man with a hood covering his face. He was bleeding very badly. The woman helped him and decided to return home with the thought that is the only place where she can help him.
They talked and laughed and the woman started to feel something she has only read about. She was falling for him. She had no idea what he looked like but she didn't care. She was falling for the inner him and not to the outside of him. The walked for a while when the man that had proposed her earlier attack on the hooded figure.
They fought and the woman screamed, she hated seeing people getting hurt. Punch after punch the hooded figure won and the other man rode away with his horse.
'Are you hurt?' the woman asked but the man shook his head. That shook made the hood that was covering his face. He was different from the man she had thought he would have been.
The hood had been covering a few scars and a bush of dirty blonde hair with a little ginger on it. But she didn't care she had already fallen in love with him in a short amount of time. Time went by and the man stayed at the woman's home for awhile while he was healing his wounds. He fell for the beautiful girl too and once his wounds were healed he proposed.
Her father accepted him to the family and they lived happily ever after until the end of their time madly in love with each other."
Alison looked at the braid she had made on Maeve's hair. "What happened to the other man?" The girl asked.
"He had his own kind of ending what was based on his actions on his earlier life."
Maeve turned to look outside and her thoughts went back to her sisters and brothers, "Where do they go?
Her mother turned to look at her beautiful daughter. She wanted for her to know the truth about her own family but she couldn't do that. It was for Maeve's own good. She would start to feel herself being different and weird. She would think that only because she is a human she is inferior and that is not the case in Alison's family.
Every single one of them is on the same level of respect and love. And if she would tell her daughter the truth she would also have to tell her the truth about Oliver. That is something she couldn't do without crying in front of the child.
"To a place where they can be themselves."

Years later the same girl was finally an adult, she was still looking through a foggy window. Only at this time, she was in a different place with different people. The same moon was looking like a huge ball of white shiny cheese. The mouse sitting next to the human thought the same.
All of her siblings were dead and no one was telling her stories about love. Maeve missed them, that. She wanted to feel her mother's fingers on her hair as she told stories that Maeve always loved. She was lonely. No one could deny that fact.
A sudden feeling of nausea made the human walk away from the window and throw up on a basket the maids had brought her.
The woman who she had met on the woods a few days earlier staid in her mind. What did he whisper to Cato? And why did she look at her the way she did? Elena did not look like she despised humans and she didn't act like that anyway. But there was something in her that made the she-wolf cautious. After their little talk or more like Maeve listening as the two mates talked to each other Elena left walking in a different direction than Cato and Maeve.

Every time the human asked something from Cato according to his mate when he and Elena hadn't met yet, Cato seemed like a person who would never let his mate go after he met her. Apparently, Maeve was wrong or abandoning your mate is very common in the werewolf community.
The mouse next to her ran away to a little cavity on the wall.
"Tommy?" The pregnant woman asked. Her little mouse friend just quickly disappeared with no explanation. Nothing unusual happened that would have caused him to get scared.
She crouched down to look at the crook on the wall. The mouse was shaking in the furthermost end of the crook.
"What's w-wrong?"
Tommy didn't react nor turned to look at the human. Something is definitely wrong, Maeve thought.
After a few minutes of trying to get the mouse come back to her, Maeve gave up and went back to the window. She couldn't understand what got her friend so scared. But that was all before she heard a horse neighing.
At the same second, she turned her eyes to look outside the window. A pack of werewolves was walking and riding towards the gates of the castle. Her eyes tried to find the only face that mattered to her. To see the smoky grey eyes once again.
Hoewer she wasn't able to see him.
There was no gallant black horse riding towards her with a man she loved on the saddle. Her heart was ripped out of her chest once again.
She could see Cato walk towards them with a man who looked more like a snake than a species of supernatural. Maeve had seen that man a few times earlier and in every single one of those times made chills run down her spine.
Maeve had heard that his name is Ezekiel Storrien and he is some kind of an advisor to the royal. He had been working in the kingdom of werewolves for a few decades giving pieces of advice that have been good but also a few that have been fatal.
His skin was so white that it looked like he had been on an ice bath his entire life. Purple veins were running around his skin that was covered with a brown rope. Eyes so black that you couldn't separate his pupils from his irises.
While Maeve was watching him the snakish man turned to watch straight into the human's eyes. As if he could have known where she was and what she was doing. But that wasn't the worst part of it. He winked his right eye to her before turning back to the returning pack.
Maeve couldn't look out of the window anymore. The night was brighter than a few nights before making it easy to see outside. The stars and full moon making the night look almost magical as if the witches would have performed a spell on it. Her heart craved her to look outside at least one time but she knew that she couldn't do it. She didn't want to be a stalker on a window. She wanted to be there with Cato and the snakish man to see if her eyes were only doing a trick on her. So she ran.
She ran like at the day when Caspian was executed. She ran like the fire that killed her mother was now only chasing her. She ran like her life only depended on it.
No one could stop her. Not even the matt that made her trip over making her knee bleed under her light purple cotton dress. A few servants looked at her like she had finally gone insane but that is what they were thinking before they saw her running around the halls without shoes on. The floor under her feet was cold but she didn't care. Her mother will turn in her grave but she didn't care. Alison was dead and she was not coming back.
The feeling of nausea was making its way back but then the human finally reached the door that kept her apart from the returning wolves. She opened the door and the wind hit her like a carriage.
She took few steps to outside. The ground under her was cold but not that freezing that she couldn't have walked on it barefooted. A few men passed her with their carryings. Some gave the short human weird looks but no one stopped her while she walked towards the mass of people.
The moon shined straight onto her face making her face glow. The same servant boy who once delivered a message from the beta to the human looked at her from a window in a tower. She looked more beautiful than he the last time he saw her. Her hair looked like the moon itself had landed on it and the dress fit her on every place. She was a beauty on the moonlight.
He sighed and blew a kiss towards her before proceeding to clean the tower.
Face after face Maeve tried to look for the man her heart craved. After every face, her heart was shattering into more pieces. She wanted to scream his name but she couldn't do that knowing that it wouldn't end well for her.
A hand grabbed her shoulder.
Her head was screaming to her that she finally found him. She turned around wishing the best.
"What are you doing in here?!" Ethen yelled to her over the voices of the pack.
Maeve hadn't seen him in a long time. Last time they were yelling to each other over his dead mate. Still, Maeve couldn't understand how the sweet maid was paired with the man in front of her. She deserved so much better than Ethen but the death of his mate has done something to Ethen too. The circles around his eyes were dark and a beard was covering his chin. He also had a new scar on his cheek.
The human tried to get his hand off of her but the general kept his hand stiff on her shoulder.
"Trying t-to find him," she shuttered while tears were starting to form in her eyes.
Something flashed trough Ethen's eyes making him want to let her go back running around like a chicken without a head. He could see the miss on her eyes and that is the reason why he told her the news.
"He is not here."
"W-what?" She breathed out. Why wouldn't he be here? Yes, she couldn't see him from the window but that didn't mean that he couldn't be in here. Only one explanation made sense in her head, something bad has happened to him.
"I'm sorry," the man muttered but the human wasn't listening.
He couldn't be dead.
There is no way someone would have managed to do that with a hundred men besides the king of werewolves.
"No, no no..." She kept muttering while she sank down to the ground not caring if her dress got dirty.
What will happen to her now that he is gone? Who will be the next king? As long as Maeve knows he has no heir to the crown.
Ethen tried to yank her up but she fought back. She kicked into the air and screamed until the man gave up and walked away. Even Cato noticed her but he left her to cry in the night. When she has had enough of crying for their king she will come back to inside and drink a cup of hot chocolate. That is what she always does when she is upset.
Few guards muttered something while they walked next to her and turned to look at her with pitying eyes. They knew who she is and why she is crying. Almost everyone would do that if they got the same news that she did.
An hour went by and the human was still crying outside. She couldn't feel her toes anymore. She didn't want to look at them. They matched her dress as the moonlight showed the color of them.
She could feel eyes on her but when did she not feel them on her? She is a weirdo in their eyes. She is just a cockroach on their eyes that they can squish when they want to. Humans are nothing compared to the supernatural. That is what parents teach their children until the end of the time. Why does it have to be like that?
Why can't humans live with the supernatural?
Why are they slaves in their eyes?
They have as big soul as a witch or werewolf and everything with a soul should be respected.
Maeve has no doubt that she will end up as a dinner for rogues at the end of the week. Afterall she is only a waste of food on their eyes.
A pair of leather boots appeared next to her.
Thinking of the owner of the boots being Cato, Maeve snapped to him to go away. She didn't need anyone's pity. She has no one and that is a cruel fact of fate.
The owner of the boots muttered something that Maeve's ears were too tired to hear. What is the matter of hearing if you want to be alone in your grief?
"What the fuck are you crying out here?"
Maeve must be hearing things. The voice sounded awfully like the person who she is crying after. It can't be min, it just can't be.
The moonlight made a shadow appear over her frame. "Look at me girly."
She didn't want to look. She was too afraid that her head is only making things up as a process of grieve.
A hand grabbed her chin and lifted her head to look straight into his smoky grey eyes. Maeve closed her eyes. She doesn't want to open her eyes just to realize that he is only a product of her imagination.
Dominic cursed under his breath before he connected his lips with her cold ones. Maeve's eyes popped open.
She broke the kiss and started to ask a queue of questions, "How, w-when...?" But that stopped when she turned to look into his eyes.
Everything else disappeared as she jumped onto his arms just to feel his lips against hers convincing to herself that this isn't a dream. It is her real life.

Starchild
“It’s life’s illusions I recall. I really don’t know life at all.” from the song, Both Sides Now, by Joni Mitchell Starchild is an adventure novel set within an understanding of reality that is rooted in Eastern spiritual traditions. It takes as its starting point experiments in remote viewing that were genuinely undertaken by the American military in the nineteen-nineties under the name of the Stargate Project. It then imagines how a more advanced attempt to weaponise the capabilities of consciousness might have been developed in the present day.The story then explores how Ultimate Reality might respond to such a threat.Deep, elemental forces thus bring together Samantha Martin and Sahadeva Varma, old colleagues from the Stargate Project, to avert the apocalyptic consequences of this military attempt to weaponise consciousness. This fast-paced story spans genres including romance, action, adventure, science fiction and more. Although this story is based on concepts drawn from established spiritual traditions, these have sometimes been extrapolated to the point of very extreme speculation for the needs of an adventure story.Much of the underlying philosophy, however, as explained in the dharma talks given by Samantha Martin, is paraphrased from the guidance of respected spiritual teachers. Scheduling: Starchild is a previously unpublished novel of one hundred thousand words which was serialised in weekly instalments over twenty-five weeks from 15th November 2021 to the 29th April 2022. Each instalment contains five chapters – an average of approximately four thousand words in each instalment.
