《Maeve》ChapterTwenty-Nine: Journey to the woods

Like usual days went by. Nothing unusual happened like always, Maeve's life started to become day after day even more boring. She had nothing else to do than watch out of a window and think about all the possible scenes that could happen.

Maybe a long lost soul finds the reason he is living. Or the sky starts to cry again making almost everyone sad too. Only the thought about that made Maeve almost cry.

All of her days were similar, nothing new happened, nothing bad occurred. People avoided her as usual but no one offended her anymore. The looks that random servants gave was weird as if they knew something she didn't. And that if something gave her chills.

Did they know something that she didn't? Did they know about some weird ceremony that is going to end badly for her?

At the lack of things to do she had more time to think about the person she misses. She hated the feeling she had for him, she wanted to scream and shout to him for leaving her alone. For leaving her without saying goodbyes. But that wasn't her, Maeve didn't like to yell at someone if something that made her feel distressed and the person she cheered continued his life as nothing happened.

It has been four weeks two days and three hours since she last saw him riding on his beautiful stallion. He left her like she was nothing like she was only a waste of air and food. Not that she got food easily if she went to the kitchen. The lady always started to scream as if she was some vermin.

Luckily every day maids brought her food and water to drink. Every single one of those moments made her think of Cory. She never got the chance of burying her. One more thing about why she should hate The King. She truly wanted to hate him from everything he has done to her, things that she should never forgive him but the heart wants what it wants.

Her mother taught her that. She always used to say that in life you need to choose the thing that is the most important.

"Tommy?" She asked. The little mouse came visible under her bed.

Maeve smiled. At least she had one breathing animal that cared for her. "She w-was so beautiful and kind," the human sniffled. If a genie would step through the door and gave her one wish, her wish would her being able to hug her for one last time.

That's when she developed an idea that she is talking Cato to join.

"Hell no." If there was something Cato would never allow the human to do that is definitely it.

"W-why not? I miss her."

"You hugging a rock kilometers away is not going to bring her back to you."

"I wasn't going t-to hug it," Maeve muttered. She couldn't understand how could the beta be so selfish? Couldn't he see the pain she was feeling every day?

"I'm still not going to let you go there." The man snapped and continued to do the things he was doing before the human interrupted her.

"Then I'm g-going alone."

The beta rolled his eyes, "Yeah, not going to happen, princess." There is no way he is letting her wander around woods to Sector Seven. The journey is way too long for a small human being walk alone in a werewolf territory while her head is the goal for all the rivals of the kingdom. Not to mention that she is clearly pregnant with the heir of the kingdom.

A few tears fell on her cheek.

Only the sight of that made Cato curse. Why does she have to be so sensitive? The hormones raging on her body are not doing the situation any better.

"Why?"

"It's too dangerous."

"Then why are y-you going to the woods every night? It isn't f-fair." Maeve has seen how he walks to the growth every night at the same time. All alone walking there with a scowl on his face but returning with a huge grin.

Cato's jaw clenched. Of course, he should have known that the little human stalker had seen him. He can only imagine what is going on the pretty head of hers. Elena had kept her promise and showed up every day after they're meeting. Every day she kept coming back looking even more breathtaking than the day before. He couldn't wait that one day that she doesn't have to go back to the old geezer who she calls uncle.

"That is none of your business," he snapped.

"Friend's don't keep s-secrets from each other," She mumbled.

The man in front of her blinked repeatedly. He couldn't understand what he was hearing that at the same time warmed his heart and made him want to yell at her for thinking that they are friends. They are not.

"You are not my friend," he tried to find the right words in his mouth. He couldn't believe that he is going to do it but he couldn't deny the fact that only that word described the feeling he felt towards her. And hell to the no for the friendship part. "You are more like a little sister who annoys the shit out of me."

Maeve was not sure if that was a compliment or not. He did say that she is like a little sister to her but he also said that she is super annoying.

"Does t-that mean that you let me go to my mothers grave?"

"Dream on, girly." He turned to look at the sky. It was getting darker meaning that he would soon have to leave to meet his mate. It is still a thing he couldn't believe, he finally found her after years of looking. Cato turned to look straight into the human's eyes.

"I'm leaving now, see you tomorrow." He mumbled before walking away.

"W-where?" She asked but either he didn't hear her or didn't care. Why did he leave? Did she annoy him enough for him to leave?

Her plan didn't work out as well as she imagined it to happen. She imagined that Cato would mumble something and send her to go to her mother's grave with few men to watch her back. It broke her heart that he didn't allow her to go back to her happy place. Maeve visiting her mother's grave is the least she could do to the person who brought her in this world and Alison sacrificed herself that her youngest child could live.

The thought of her mother made her want to cry. The human couldn't see Cato anymore. He disappeared again like always leaving her with wondering thoughts. She wanted to know where he is going and why. So she followed him all the way to the forest.

The cold air felt like thousand knives on her skin. She had no time to dress up warmly so she put on a cape that couldn't hold the wind. Maeve stayed behind the beta that he couldn't see her, sometimes he turned his head around to look into the direction Maeve was but she always managed to stay hidden.

The air around her was moist making her hair look more like a birds nest than a human hair. Sticks on the ground ripped the hem of her dress and cape. The coldness in the air made her freeze and made her want to stop and turn around but the look on the beta's face made her continue her journey. She wanted to know what he was hiding?

Cato continued to walk towards the spot he is supposed to meet his mate and soon he saw her. There she was standing in the middle of the forest square her white cloak shining against the moon.

Elena turned to see her mate walking towards her. It was a weird word, her mate, she thought that she will be finding her mate when Uncle Marion passes away. There is no way he is letting her go with a random man who he doesn't know. She wanted them to meet.

She wanted them to see each other because Elene could sense that Cato hated the man who kept him away from her. And Uncle Marion hates Cato too even though they haven't met yet though she could see it in his eyes.

He has started to notice her absence when they eat together and when he speaks to her she is drifting to her dream world. He suspects something, she can feel it. They need to be more careful.

"Cato," she whispered as he was close enough to hear her. He didn't say anything but he crushed for a hug.

Elena whined. "We need to be more careful, he will smell you on me."

"I don't care," he mumbled to her hair.

"Well, I do." She snapped and shook herself free from him. "You have no idea what he will do to me if he catches us." Elena had no intentions to spend the next thirty years locked in a small room with tires under it.

"I won't let him chain you into a cage."

"I would believe you if you would know where I live." There would be no good from him if he is looking her from the different side of the world. She would definitely be spending her next years in a moving cell.

"Then why don't you tell me that?" He said playfully. He could just follow her when she leaves but he decided that it isn't his business if she doesn't want him to know that.

"If I'd tell you would come to my village at the night and kidnap me. Don't you think that I don't know what you are thinking right now."

The human gasped. There is a woman standing next to The Beta. She was currently standing behind a tree and watching as they were talking about something, she wanted to know what they are talking about and who is she?

The woman had a white cape and a dark hair but that all she could see, the night was too dark. Maeve took few steps closer as a try to hear what they were talking about.

A stick snapped under her legs.

"What was that?" The woman asked and started to look straight were Maeve was currently hiding. She was kneeling behind a bush.

"You can come out now, Maeve!" Cato yelled.

How did he know she was out there? Maeve froze. How long has he been knowing about her whereabouts?

She took a few deep breaths before standing up from the plant. The woman next to Cato was staring right at her with widened eyes as she walked towards them.

"Meet Elena, my mate," He said and looked at the human's eyes. They largened before her lips curved into a sweet smile. Maeve wanted to go hug her but the look on Elena's eyes changed that. They were full of mixed feelings.

"She is my friend's mate." Cato hasn't yet told Elena where he lives and with who.

Elena sniffed the air. "She's a human."

Cato nodded and put his arm over her shoulder. The she-wolf whispered something to Cato's ear that Maeve couldn't hear.

The Beta turned to look Maeve from head to toe making her feel very insecure about her looks. What were they talking about?

"I'm Elena," She finally said and offered her hand to the human. Maeve gladly took it and smiled but the look on the woman's eyes never changed.

Elena turned to look at the sky. It was truly a beautiful night and she was spending it with the person she wanted to. The bright moon shined to the dark forest, a few days from here there will be a full moon.
