《Maeve》ChapterTwentySeven: A Lonely Bird

Days after days went slower than the earlier.
Almost every night the human girl woke up in the middle of the night for nausea. Her head hurt and she started to crave all kinds of foods she has always hated. She couldn't understand what was going on. Is she sick? If that is the case she should definitely go to see a doctor and maybe he would give her some medicine and tell what is wrong with her.
But the worst thing for Maeve is the pain of missing someone. She wanted to see him riding towards the castle and her. She wanted to see his mesmerizing eyes again. But the thing she wanted the most was to hug him. Even though she knew that he wouldn't be as gentle towards the hug than his friend.
Every time she saw a lonely bird fly towards the castle she hoped that the bird would carry a letter for her. But every single time she ended up being disappointed. Maeve wanted to hear where he had gone and if everything has gone right. The lack of things to do made her mind race with all the possibilities that could have happened.
The worst possible occurrence is that he has died.
That was a thought that Maeve stopped herself for believing. What would happen to her if he died? No one wanted a human in the castle but since she was their king's mate no one had the guts to say anything. They would probably throw her out at the second they heard about the death.
Where would she go? The sad truth is that she has no one to take care of her. She has no family alive and she has never been good at making friends. She is completely alone in the world ruled by the supernatural. There aren't many humans left and almost every single one of them have isolated in small villages that no one can find them. Just like Maeve and her family did when they were still alive.
Almost all the supernatural species despited humans. They are weak in their eyes. Of course, there are individuals that don't care if their neighbors are humans.
Maeve rose up from a chair in her room. She was sick of just sitting there and doing nothing, she was like a prison in her own room. Every day a few maids brought her food and water but that was it. No one ever came to say 'how are you' or even greet her. She felt exactly like when she was rotting in that cell.
She but slippers on her feet that she found on the same closet she found the ball dress. Her light pink cotton dress didn't do much to warm her so she took a blanket with her.
The hallways were empty and cold. Winter had gone by and spring was making its appearance with flowers and chirping birds. Soon summer would be there and Maeve wished from the bottom of her heart that they would allow her to go swim and pick flowers. She has always loved summer.

She made her way to the kitchen and pegged to the kitchen lady that she would make her some hot chocolate. First, the lady was going to kick her out of her kitchen as usual but she sensed something different about her. She couldn't name it but she seemed even cuter than usual with her puppy eyes. Finally, the lady gave in and made her a large cup filled with hot chocolate that Maeve took thanking her.
After that, she made her way to the amazing library she once found. The door was luckily unlocked so she made her way to the fireplace and lit it before sitting on the couch sipping her favorite drink under a warm blanket.
While Maeve was drifting to her own dream world where everything is right the beta that has slowly started to show his true nature sloshed in the forest.
He had gotten a letter a few days earlier that he should come to the forest by himself at the exact time that was told in the letter.
If he was being honest he had no interest to explore this forest after the last incident that occurred in here. The human almost lost her hand as a snack bite to a wolf. He didn't recognize that wolfs smell so it definitely wasn't Foley and that was surely a good thing. But the thought of why didn't that wolf eat her? The wolf had time and a change but there he sat in front of the human, like a fucking puppy.
While walking in the woods and it is Cato had never been one of those guys who like to jump around the woods trying to find flowers, butterflies and all the girly stuff, but right at that moment, he felt like one. Not even knowing the reason why.
Then he saw him. The King was leaning to an old oak.
"You are late," Dominic commented.
"Yeah, sorry had trouble finding here." That wasn't a complete lie. He had other thoughts running through his mind so he didn't focus on the nature summoning him.
He couldn't believe his eyes when he read the note. When he read the time and place he cursed. First, he wouldn't have wanted to wander around the woods and second it is the middle of the night with no other light than moon and stars.
The beta stared at his friend. He looked just like in the day he left. Black cape warming his shoulders and the same look on his eyes that revealed no emotions. Sometimes it was really annoying to not know what he was thinking about. you couldn't predict if in the next five minutes you are going to lose your head or end up hugging him.
"How has everything gone?" Cato asked.
Dominic turned to look at the moon for a second before answering in his usual short sentenced way, "Like it was planned."

"You found Foley?" Dominic turned to look straight into his friend's eyes.
"No" He muttered under his breath. But like Cato thought he didn't ask anything after that. Predictable, yes but the beta is sure that there is one thing or someone that he wants- no needs to know.
"She misses you, you know."
"What?" The king snapped as if he wouldn't have wanted to know a thing about her. Unlucky for him his beta knew him well.
"One day I took her sightseeing and showed her few things around the territory. Everything went well until we started to head back and we were attacked." Dominic turned to look at him with an angry scowl. " Nothing happened to me or her if you don't count a little scratch on her elbow."
The king didn't say anything but his expression told Cato everything he needed to know.
"I smelled a foreign smell and knew that it wouldn't be any friendly little wolfie wanting to cuddle so we ran but unlucky for all of us I heard someone running after us so I left her to run by her own and the next time I found her she was screaming into a thin air." That is almost everything Cato thought, of course, he is not going to tell about what happened after that because that is not relevant.
"She has had this weird aura around her for the past few weeks," The beta muttered.
"Enchanted one?" Dominic asked fearing the worst.
"No," Cato shook his head trying to find the right words, "More like the one that the crying woman once had and I can also smell a new smell flying around her."
A moment went by without either one of them saying anything. They both knew what that meant and what the consequences are.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, or that is what I at least believe. She has also had this abnormal glow on her skin." Dominic froze. He couldn't believe it, no he didn't want to believe it. His father would turn in his grave if he found out. Luckily for Dominic, he has been dead for a long time and will not be walking on this ground never again.
He was a true monster without a heart.
Dominic looked like a pure image of him. He hadn't even ever met his mother not knowing even is she is still alive or whoring around like a prostitute. Little glimpses of his past ran through his eyes, the flames that burned down a great city that was ruled by humans, the last of its own kind and now it is ruined too. Not that he felt any remorse for those vermins. Every single one of them deserved to die, one human may live under his roof, but the rest of them has to die. They pollute the forests and eat food that could warm the stomachs of many werewolves and other supernatural babies.
Humans are nothing compared to them. They are slow, poor and they deserve to be destroyed and slaved by the supernatural. Humans are only a test species that witches once created as an attempt to create a species that has powers from all the other species. Unlike their wishes, they created the weakest creature of them all. Humans were never supposed to be even born.
Dominic wanted-no he desired to kill every single one of them and make the world pure again but he couldn't do that anymore. He could slaughter every single one of them except a short human girl who was carrying his child.
"When are you coming back?" Cato asked stopping his thoughts.
"Soon," He said and started to walk away. He had things he needed to do and now was no time to screw around with things that he could discuss later.
As The King walked away Cato stood at the same place and stared at his back. His world has really turned around and it hasn't stopped yet. In some weird way, Cato was actually jealous for him. He had found his mate, even if he didn't want her, and soon has everything in his life that Cato has dreamed of since he was six.
He rolled his eyes thinking that who had known when the soldiers kidnapped a human girl from Sector Seven that this all would have happened not even knowing what the future holds in. And like a true friend he is going to be there and see and hear everything that will happen. For sure there is no way he would miss it all.
But for now, he needed to head back to the human girl and the castle. Who knows what she will come up with while there is no one watching over her. Maybe she will trip down on the stairs and snap her neck. That wouldn't end it all.
Cato groaned and turned around. He could really use a warm bath now every inch of his body was hurting. A few steps and a few curses later he smelled a smell he had waited his entire life. He turned around and started to sprint where the smell was lingering stronger. He wouldn't give up on now when she is so close to him.
Then he saw her. A small white wolf running away from him heading to a territory owned by no one. He smirked, apparently, his little mate likes to run but lucky for her Cato has always loved a good chase.

In Pursuit of Bark's Finest
On the frontiers of transhumanity’s expansion into the galaxy thousands of light years from the light of Sol, things can get rather chaotic. There are countless millions of nascent interstellar nations securing their interests, pirate ships prospering off plunder and deniable mercenary work, dissidents setting up their own civilizations, and other groups all trying to push an agenda. When these groups crash into each other, the results can become extremely messy and convoluted. Recently, a frontier nation calling itself the Red Star Union has found itself at the focal point of one such complication. A freighter under their protection has been sabotaged, hijacked in interstellar space, and robbed of its cargo. This would be bad enough even if all it were carrying was luxury goods, but the freighter Nebula Plow was carrying more than just normal trade goods. Indeed, her cargo of Non-Orientable Wormholes for use in starship power plants was both very expensive and very, very dangerous. Now the Red Star Union has to worry about a pirate crew running around with several extra devices capable of converting matter into antimatter with negligible energy cost. With those, the pirates could be capable of inflicting untold damage if allowed to leverage their ill-gotten gains into a stronger position, a possibility the Union finds completely intolerable. Unfortunately, all that the Red Star Union has to go on for evidence is two names; that of the captain, and that of the ship. The Captain is going by the possible pseudonym of Fuller, while the ship is named Bark’s Finest. And thus the orders came down to the Union’s Bureau of Starforce Intelligence: find more information on these pirates, conclusively identify them, and figure out where exactly they’ve gone to ground so that the fleet can crush them before they get established. Of the many agents that the bureau assigned to this mission, one would happen to play an important role: Field Agent Madeline Zargosty. This is her story.
