《Maeve》ChapterTwentyFour: Foley

"You found my Maevey?" Oliver's heart almost stopped pulsating for a second. He couldn't believe that those morons actually found his youngest daughter. When his mate, Alison, and his other children died his heart shattered into a thousand pieces but he heard a rumor that they took a human girl with strawberry blonde hair with them made a hope rose in his chest.

The two men were stunned that their leader started to cry. His cheeks were wet from tears of happiness.

"Where?"

"She is being held in The King's castle," The taller one said.

Oliver fisted his hands. He had heard awful things about that place and especially about how they treat humans. But the worst thing about it was that the prophecy has come true. His and Alison's worst fear had come true. Their little baby was living with a man who was more a beast than a human. Maybe that is what explains why he hates humans from the bottom of his heart.

Oliver didn't even want to think what that beast has done to his precious baby girl. Alison will never forgive him if he doesn't do a thing to save their child. She will choke him when they meet again in heaven and he is counting days till he can see his loved one again. His wolf is dying but the thought of his little Maeve being held by The King is something he has to broke. If his heart ends being ripped out of his body by The King that is what he will do before he lays a hand on his daughter again.

"Harred?" The shorter one asked.

"LEAVE!" He commanded and the two men disappeared quickly.

Oliver turned to look at the map of The King of Werewolves land. He could try to attack through the forest but that would end in a bloodbath of his people. Every plan he had in his mind would end in a bloodbath, but he is willing to do that for Maeve. He can't force anyone to come along him so he needs to ask volunteers. No one of them has ever seen his youngest daughter but they have heard stories about her and hopefully, some of them will help him to sneak into the dragons den.

He looked at a painting of his beautiful red-haired mate and made a wow he is going to keep until the day he meets her again.

"I will find her and save her from that beast, Alison. She will have a good life with a good man and little children running around her. She is going to live her dream life and if not then I'll die trying it." A tear fell on his cheek but he quickly wiped it away, he didn't want someone to see him crying as those two morons did. "I truly miss you, my love. I wish that I would have never let you go because then you would still be alive."

She died saving their youngest daughter and he will keep his promise even if it ends his heart being crushed by The King.

"Crap," The human girl cursed quietly as she hit her toe. It hurt so much but she didn't want to scream. That would reveal her hiding place and that is the last thing she wants to happen. Her little mouse friend stayed back to eat the little piece of cheese on the ground. If Maeve was truly honest to herself her stomach is screaming for food but the curiosity took the best of her. She wanted to know who they were talking about. If the person who they are talking about wants her then she has every right to know.

Half of her wanted to scream and ask the question that is burning a hole in her head. But the other half wanted to stay hidden.

"Did the letter say anything else?" Dominic muttered. He was so bored with everything, he needed to bust something.

The Beta shook his head. The letter he read was very simple, whew words scattered around the paper. He wanted to burn it down but he knew better than to do that. He needed an evidence and that little thing was right in his front pocket. "You want to see it?"

Dominic didn't answer but tore the little piece of paper out of his beta's hand as soon as it was visible to him. Maeve saw as her mate looked at some tiny wrinkled piece of paper. His eyes turned even darker and he tore the paper in half with a queue of curse words. She wanted to know what the paper held in that made him tore it into parts.

She didn't know why but the first thing she thought about was some kind of riddle. Everyone knew that he wasn't the most tolerant man. She has always been good at riddles so maybe he would let her help him if he hadn't ripped the paper in many fragments.

The two men continued to talk but Maeve was too far to hear them. As if they had sensed someone being in there and not wanting her to hear what they were talking about. If that was really their plan there was a huge loophole, Maeve was a very very inquiring person and when the seconds went by her curiosity grew too.

When her naked feet were finally touching the cold floor she started to think about her plan. Maybe it is a terrible idea and she should turn away after all maybe they were in this rotten basement because they didn't want anyone to hear them.

"Are you going to let him have her?" The voice of The Beta interrupted her thoughts. Dominic answered something but he grunted it so she wasn't able to hear it.

She took a few quiet steps closer to them.

"Really?" She heard Cato's struck voice. The human found a tiny crack between two shelves that she could just fit. They wouldn't be able to see her from there but she could see everything they were doing and hopefully hear them too.

"You're just going to the woods and dumb her to Foley?" That sentence made chills run in Maeve's spine. Were they really talking about her? If they are, how can they be so cruel? She felt tears form in her eyes but didn't let them fall on her face.

"Yes," Dominic said and took a gulp on his class.

Maeve's jaw fell onto the ground.

After he finished his drink he threw the class to the wall and walked away. The shattered pieces painted Maeve's thoughts perfectly. First, he broke her and then he did it again before fixing her and breaking her again and fixing her again, but now he managed to break her fragile heart again. Why did she think that they would ever even be friends?

"He isn't here anymore, girly." Maeve winced at the sound of Cato's voice. She thought he disappeared after Dominic.

"You can come out now," How did he see her? Maeve took a deep breath and walked away from her untrustworthy hiding place.

"H-how did...."

Cato took a sip from his wine, "I smelled you."

"Oh," Maeve had no idea what she should be thinking at the moment. Should she run away and be afraid of his reaction? But eerily Cato seemed calm, calmer than she had ever seen him and that scared her more than anything else.

"I assume that you heard us?" He looked straight into the eyes of the attractive human girl not even waiting for an answer. "He knows what he is doing."

"By sacrificing me to some m-maniac?"

Cato smirked, "I knew you were listening."

"Why d-do you keep doing this to m-me?" She whispered.

He raised his eyebrow as if he didn't understand what she was talking about when he knew that damn well.

"If he wants m-me dead then he might as well s-snap my neck now," It killed her to say that but who was she to deny the truth. She heard by her own ears that he is going to give her to some man named Foley.

"You are not going to die, I can promise you that but if you ask prettily I can end your pretty days right at this second."

Maeve's face paled.

"I knew it, you aren't ready to die and neither am I. But I do know that you should trust him, he knows what he is doing."

In some weird reason, Maeve had a hard time to believe it.

"B-but what about the maniac who wants me?"

Cato rolled his eyes and gulped the rest of his drink in his throat. "Do you know who Foley is?"

"No."

"Then how do you know he is a maniac?"

Maeve was about to open her mouth but Cato beat her in it, "Well, he is a maniac but you don't know that before this."

"Why should I t-trust The King?" Maeve gulped. She didn't realize anything they were talking about but she wanted to know why should she trust the person who has broken her multiple times, no matter what her feelings were.

"Sweetie," Cato said and cupped her chin with his large hand making her look straight into his brown eyes, "He has only once let someone die without his consent and trust me when I say this that after that he has never allowed that to happen."

A million questions popped in her head but no words came in her mind to describe them. Who was the person who died?

"I can't tell you more about that without my head ending up on the chopping block." As if he could read her mind. He left the now empty glass on a wooden table and started to walk towards the staircase.

"C-Cato?" Maeve pronounced quickly.

Cato froze and turned to look at the person who has changed everything. "Yes?"

"Where is y-your mate?"

After those words left her vocal chords Cato's eyes turned a little darker than his usual dark brown. "I don't know," he fisted his hands.

"Why?"

A huge part of Cato wanted to attack the human and strangle her but she was only stating the truth. He hadn't found his mate yet and it killed him every morning. He wanted to meet her and cherish her, unlike his friend who only treats his mate like a shit.

"She hasn't crossed my path."

"Oh," Maeve muttered. She wished that she could have met her and maybe get a new friend of her. The human had thought that maybe he hasn't met her yet, because if he had then she would have probably met her already.

"Then I w-wish that you will meet her soon," She chirped.

"Yeah, me too girly me too," After that, he disappeared.
