"Y-you wh-what?" Maeve couldn't believe her ears. She was so happy for her. Finally, Cory can be happy and have a family. But that didn't explain why she was crying like she lost someone dear to her.

"Then w-why are you c-crying? It is a g-good thing."

"You don't understand, Maeve. You don't know who he is."

"Then t-tell me."

The maid hesitated. "You wouldn't understand."

Maeve sighed, "Please t-tell me who he is. Because how can I understand if I don't k-know who he is?" Maeve truly wanted to help her. Cory has always been there for her, as an advisor or just as a shoulder she could cry on. Now when she finally got the chance to help her, she didn't let it happen.

If someone has an experience of shitty mates, it Maeve. She may be born as a human and didn't really know a thing about werewolves or mates before she was dragged to the castle. But she does know that she and The King are mates and that he isn't the best one. The only thing he wants from her is seeing her head in a spike while crows are eating her eyes. Maeve bet and prayed that Cory's mate is different. That he will love her and does not try to kill her many times.

But how could she know that when Cory doesn't say anything?

Because if it is some other servant or farmer Maeve does not have an experience on them, but it feels like they would love and cherish Cory in every chance they get. But if it is some coldhearted bastard, Maeve could maybe give some pieces of advice on how to survive.

All the rulers of this world are cruel and cold. They don't have a heart that will help someone else. They have power and money, but they always want more. If they don't like something or someone they will get rid of it. Maeve's childhood home was a perfect sample.

District Seven needed more food and money than they had, and because they didn't have it their home was burned down. Even if it wasn't The King werewolves served some other King wanted to attack in his kingdom by hurting and killing thousands of innocents. And if some survived the fire, the soldiers killed every living creature in there except her.

The place Maeve still calls home was full of forest. Actually, District Seven was full of woods and there was only a few little cities and villages. Maeve was the only thing left from there, she is living proof of something that doesn't exist anymore.

She is a proof of happiness and beauty that place held in.

"I can't! He doesn't want anyone to know about me being his mate."

"I promise t-that I don't t-tell anyone." Maeve truly wanted to help her, but to Cory, it started to feel annoying.

"Please, Maeve. You need to forget I never said anything."

"I c-can't"

"Then please, leave. I n-need time to think."

Maeve hesitated for a second. She truly didn't want to leave her, but if it is what she wants. What could she do? "Are y-you sure?"

The crying maid nodded.

Maeve went to hug her and after that, she walked to the door and opened it. She didn't expect to find a perfect rose lying on the floor. Even petal was as red as blood and carved like the God himself would have made it.

"Umm t-there is a rose on the floor?"

Cory looked up from her lap and saw as Maeve put the rose in front of her and left. While Maeve was walking towards the kitchen to eat, Cory started to cry even stronger.

She knew where that rose came from and from who. He knew it would terrorize her and it did, but what he didn't expect was Cory to lit it and jump over it, destroying the beauty it once held.

The human wandered around the castle. It was cold and she only had a thin dress on. There was no fireplace in the room she slept, so she decided to look for one. But it wasn't an easy task, the castle was huge and the walls radiated coldness. She really needed a cloak to warm her up or else her arms and nose will fall off.

As she walked she reached the end of the East Wing and had to cross a little piece of the outside world that was covered with snow. Maeve has always loved snow. It is so pure and beautiful and she could build things from it. Once she built a huge castle with William. She even wanted to sleep inside of the snow castle but her mother forbidden that.

"What are you doing in here, milady?" A loud voice asked.

Maeve turned around and stared directly in the eyes of a guard. She wondered how he stands the cold, he only had a coat to warm him more than regular clothes. He even didn't have gloves on.

"I'm t-trying to find a fireplace."

The guard stared at her like she would have grown a second head. The rumors are true, he thought. They are saying that she is crazy and now while he was staring at her, while she was trying to find a fireplace in the middle of snow coated land. Some has even said that she is talking to animals.

"You should be inside."

"I'm g-going there." She mumbled and walked away from the snow.

She had never been on the West Wing, but hopefully, it will be a place she will continue to come. While walking around she saw more maids and servants running around carrying blankets and cloaks. She even asked from one girl if she could have one of the blankets, but she said 'no' and ran away.

The human thought about asking the same thing from someone else but didn't bother. She knew people didn't like her. Actually, they hated her because she is a human. But what Maeve wondered is how? Could they smell her being different or is there a huge sign on her forehead that says 'HUMAN, BE AWARE'.

She found a small dining room and another kitchen. But there was no fireplace where she could warm herself up. She even found one fireplace, but the kids around it evicted her.

When she was finally starting to give up she opened a large door and was amazed by what it did hold in. There was a huge library filled with different kind of books. She bet that all the books that had been written in the world are in there. And the best thing is that there were a fireplace and no one around it.

She took a book in one of the selves and a blanket that was on the couch. She wrapped herself on the blanket and sat on a couch that was next to the burning fireplace.

Maeve started to read the book and realized that she actually enjoyed being in there. It was quiet and warm, everything she ever asked for.

Days went on, but in every day Maeve walked into the library and read a book. If she finished it, she would go and get another one. She even took Tommy with her few times.

She hadn't heard from Cory, although she tried to talk to her a few times, she never was in her room. It made her feel sad, but she knew that Cory could find her if she had a problem.

In one day Maeve was truly exhausted from a reason that was unknown for her. She felt like someone would have drained all the energy she has in her body. When she finally reached the couch on the library she fell in sleep.

While Maeve was snoring on the couch Dominic was walking frustrated around his castle. He had got a message from a person he believed lying in six feet underground for the last ten years. And the worst part in it was that the message was about his little weakling called Maeve.

In the second it mentioned his mate he threw the message to the fireplace that was in his chamber.

And now he is storming around his castle scaring every servant that walked close to him. He growled every time someone tried to talk to him. His wolf was furious and it reflected on him also. It felt like he could snap someone's neck if they said one wrong thing, but that is exactly what he does when his wolf isn't pissing him off.

He walked past the large doors to his private library that he never used. He hadn't been there for ages, but now it seemed like the perfect place to cool down because it was forbidden to someone to go there without his permission. That is why the doors are usually locked, but now they were open. Probably just some maid had forgotten to close it after cleaning it. Dominic took a note to himself to punish the person who left the door open. because who would know what kind of creatures would go there if he hadn't forbidden that. After all, people could destroy kingdoms with the information the library held in.

As he stepped inside he noticed that the fireplace was on with a warming aura. He thought it was nothing because maybe that same stupid maid was cold and decided to warm little by the fire. But little did she know that it would be the doom for her.

He went to pick a book full of maps when he noticed one book missing its place. Usually, he wouldn't notice such a thing but there was a big hole between storybooks.

"A thief." He muttered angrily. He really needed a thief to deal with next to all the things that have happened lately.

He was just about to go and find a servant to inform Cato that he will be doing some thief hunt when he heard snuffle from the couch next to the fireplace.

He didn't expect to find the human scum sleeping in there wrapped in a warm blanket. He watched as she moved a little and mumbled something foreign to him. Apparently, the thief was his mate who had found her new favorite place in the castle.

First, he wanted to throw her out of his couch and yell that she shouldn't be in here. She didn't know how big damage she could have caused just by sitting and reading books in here. But then he felt something that he hadn't felt since the morning, peace.

His beast wasn't raging in him anymore. He was in peace while watching him mate sleeping in front of him.

He had heard stories about how mates could calm each other down without using words, but he never believed in them. But now when his wolf calmed down in the second he saw his mate.

A sinister thought came into Dominic's head. Maybe he could use this ability to his advance in things he couldn't control. And who knew what other things the weakling could for him. Maybe the human could melt his coldhearted beast.

That is when Maeve mumbled the first words Dominic could actually understand, "William, please."

If he thought that his mate only could calm his senses, she could also make him rage like no other. He didn't like when she moaned someone else's name. He could feel his wolf trying to take over and torture the answer to who is William and why she is dreaming of him. But he didn't do it.

He just stared at his mate.

She probably had no idea he was staring at her right now.

The King saw as the fire died in the fireplace. The library will be ice cold in the next half an hour, and the human will freeze if she doesn't wake up. He could just shake her awake and leave, but something inside of him nagged him to take her into his arms and carry away.

And that is exactly what he did.
