《Maeve》ChapterSixteen: Prophecy

"He who dares to challenge him will suffer."

"He who will take something from him will suffer."

"But he who will say his name aloud will die."

Three witches were standing in a circle. They were reading a prophecy, that was first seen years ago. But who would have known all of that was true. Once a long time ago they first had seen the future from the light.

There was a little girl running in flower fields and laughing. But when she would turn eighteen, her life will change quickly to hell. The witches send a crow with a message to the wife of the great general of wolves.

And like expected the wife and her husband went to meet them.

The couple was scared. After all who wouldn't be? The message said that their youngest child will change the future and die after that. Alison was scared, her baby who hadn't even taken one deep breath already has a death sentence.

"We are glad that you decided to meet us." One of the blind witches said.

Oliver snorted, "What did you think we would have done? You wrote that our child will have a destiny greater than anyone."

"We did, and it's also the truth." The third witch said.

Alison felt tears forming in her eyes. All she wanted was a happy life for her children, but the girl she was carrying had a future already written for her. The girl will never get a chance to decide what she wanted in her life.

"What will happen to her?" She said and rubbed her stomach.

The witch with blue hair opened her blank eyes. "She will be a human, like her mother. But unlike many humans, she has a mate. A mate greater than anyone, leaders will kneel in front of him, even the devil pales next to him. But he will have a weakness; an unborn human girl, who will change everything in the world we know."

Oliver didn't believe it. It all sounded like bullshit on his ears. He has never believed in prophecies, and now when those liars are telling that his little baby girl will have an asshole of a mate. There is no way that is happening as long as he is breathing, no one will never hurt his unborn child. Not even the person she is destined to be with.

It reminded him of how he met his own mate, a human called Alison. She was so breathtaking that his heart almost stopped when he saw his mate walking in a flower field. First, no one believed that she was his mate because she is a human. But Oliver knew it in his heart, it no longer craved for someone else. His father tried to kill her a few times, but luckily Oliver was always there when it was supposed to happen.

When the blind witches continued to read the prophecy to his wife, Oliver snorted. "Why should us believe you? Our child hasn't even born yet." The only reason why he is standing there is because of his mate. He saw the reaction on her face when she read the message. If this journey will make his mate little happier, he would listen to the witches for the rest of his life.

"We may be blind, but we still can see."

Oliver made a mistake by looking at his wife. She had tears falling from her eyes.

He cursed in his head. "What can we do to stop it?"

The witches looked at each other, but no one didn't answer.

"I asked a question."

"And we decided not to answer."

Alison opened her red puffy eyes and started pleading, "Please."

"There is a way, but she has to turn eighteen and live like her the prophecy. If she doesn't, even us don't know what will happen to the world we know."

Oliver started seeing red, "And what is it?"

The witches hesitated for a while, "She needs to die before she turns eighteen."

Alison screeched, "No, p-please there has to be another way!"

The child inside of her will lives until age will take her. Alison will die herself before she lets that day come. No one will never lay a hand on her.

Oliver took the hand of his wife and dragged her outside of the shack.

"What will we do, Oliver?" She cried.

He embraced her in his arms and kissed the top of her head. "I don't know, my love, I don't know."

Suddenly Alison started crying even harder. "I have an idea, but I don't know if it will work." Her heart broke even thinking about it. "I'll move away with our children in some small village no one has ever even heard of. She will grow without werewolves around her."

"But our all of our children are werewolves, and every village is full of them. There is no place in the entire world were you could go."

"She never has to know the truth about her siblings."

Maeve couldn't leave her bed. Even one step away from it made her so embarrassed that she ran back. How could she have been so stupid? The red liquid that once made her crazy, and she decided to drink it again.

She freaking kissed him.

And he kissed her back.

No, no no no and no! That must have been only a dream, but Maeve knew better. She remembers the look on Cato's face when he walked on them.

Stupid.

Stupid.

Stupid.

Why did she let him take her first kiss? It went nothing like she had expected, first it was supposed to happen in a big field of flowers and a river running next to them. Second, the man should have been someone that loves her and she loves him and third he was supposed to be a human like her.

She always envied the look on her mothers face when she told things about her father. Pure happiness.

She was sure that when they first kissed, her mother didn't have to hide in her bed.

What is she even thinking? The King will never be like her father was to her mother to her. His head was probably too messed up from the red liquid and he mistook her from one of the pretty ladies that walk around the castle.

After all, he wants to kill her.

Kissing and killing never really match.

He won't probably even remember it. And like always Maeve is overreacting.

That must be it.

The dress she wore is laying on the ground. Something so beautiful laying on the ground dusting. It should be hanging on a hanger in a special place like it was before Maeve took it.

She should just never have gone to the ball. She should have read a book by a fire and relax. But she decided to go to the ball, and now she is laying in a bed feeling like the earth should swallow her.

"S-stupid."

She hasn't even seen Cory tell her what happened. She can't find Tommy either. But a mouse couldn't give her advice, she really needed right now. She needed someone to hug her and tell everything is going to be okay.

That is when the large door opened and a red-haired maid started to dust the fixed dresser. Usually, people knock before entering the room she slept in, but this maid just ignored her and dusted vases.

Maeve didn't even know if the maid knew that she was in the bed.

"E-excuse me?"

The maid rolled her eyes and turned around. "Yes?"

That's when the human recognized her. It was the same girl who opened the door when Maeve was asking for Cory. This girl definitely has some problems in her behavior etiquette.

"What a-are you doing here?"

"Dusting, duh." She rolled her eyes again as if it was the stupidest question in the history. But that wasn't the question Maeve wanted her to answer.

"Where is C-cory?"

"Sick."

Maeve's face paled. Maybe it is something very serious, because why didn't Cory inform her? Maybe she is too sick to even rise from her bed. Maybe she has the same illness as Sophie. What if she dies? No, Maeve can't live without her. Not at least now, she really needs someone.

"W-what?"

"Ugh, I don't know. She is crying her eyes out and doesn't want to speak with anyone. Anything else, milady?" She pronounced the last part like it was venom dripping on her mouth like it was the worst name she could call her.

The redhead continued to dust and left.

Maeve gasped and raised from her bed. And like another time her mind kept racing on last night events. But now Maeve forced herself to get dressed. She needed to see Cory, as much as she wanted to see her.

There he was hanging on a wall. So high that if he tiptoed his toes would touch the floor. A drop of water falling on every five seconds on his left cheek. Silver chains on his wrists and neck. He felt like a bloody dog.

He tasted blood in his mouth for the beating. His nose is broken and probably even his jaw, but his beater didn't care. There will be way more than that, and Ethen knew it. If there is something he has seen over the years is that he will end up being dead or he will plead for his death when he is finished with him.

In the front pocket of his shirt is one long strawberry blonde hair. He kept it in there. There was a really good reason why he took it in the first place. But now he will die because of that bloody human bitch.

He even didn't know why he asked her to dance. There was no single good reason for that, but now he will pay the price.

He heard the screams of other prisoners and smirked.

That is what is expecting him, again.

But then again what is a life without some little pain.

Another water drop fell on his cheek. It will be a long day for him.

Unlike Maeve who had been locked in her room. Dominic spent his day by drinking wine, listening to some boring stuff, beating Ethen up and drinking more wine.

Now while sitting on his throne and drinking wine his mind started to wander. He couldn't believe he let himself to get so drunk that he kissed a human.

Humans are the lowest skanks in this world and what did The Werewolf King do? He kisses one of them.

It disgusted him that he had given up to the mate bond. It disgusted him even more that it had to be a human.

But at least Cato has kept his mouth shut because if he doesn't his head will be falling off the balcony. And he knew it.

But that didn't stop Dominic's mind.

Another gulp of wine went down in his throat. He really should just snap her neck. It wouldn't take more than two seconds, she is too fragile. But if he would do that, he will never get an heir to the throne.

He drank the rest of his wine before ordering some poor servant to get some wine for him. He needed way more to survive the rest of the night.

Before the servant boy left the doors The King yelled after him, "And tell Olivia to meet me in the tower."

***

First Maeve ran to the kitchen. The best cure for everything is a cup of hot chocolate. After finally getting it after arguing with an old woman, she made her way to the room her best friend was in.

Luckily for her, she hadn't run into The King or The Royal Beta. If she did she would probably shutter more than she already is and turn so red that even tomatoes would be jealous of her.

She knocked on the door but no one answered.

She knocked again, but nothing happened. After that, she opened the door herself, if Cory truly is sick and will die Maeve wants to see her for the last time.

"C-cory?" She asked when she was inside. The room looked cold. There were no windows, only beds with thin blankets and pillows. But no Cory.

So she sat on a bed and waited for her.

Not a long there the door opened and a puffy-eyed Cory was standing in the door hole. "Maeve?"

"I-I heard that you are sick, so I b-brought some hot chocolate. B-but it might be cold now." She smiled.

But she did not expect her to fall on her knees and start to cry a river. "I'm not sick, Maeve." She mumbled between her sobs.

"Then, w-what happened?"

Cory hesitated for a while before looking straight to a pair of hazel eyes.

"I found him, Maeve. I found my mate."
