"Yeah, our mom died so we now just living alone." I tell Lars' parents as I eat the cake.

"What? Oh my god. Your mom died. I'm so sorry." Anya touches my shoulder.

"Hm, about a year ago. She had a heart attack but the doctors said she probably had a cancer that was starting too. It was all messy."

Unlike Soren, I don't mind talking about it.

"Well, that must be horrible and you are both still young."

"I was seventeen and Soren twenty one."

"But what about your dad? He didn't take care of you?"

"We never met him."

"Never?" she says shocked.

"No. Never. We don't know who he is."

"You mom didn't tell you?"

"No."

"She – she didn't show you pictures, post cards, birth certificates?"

"Nothing like that, so we just have no way of finding."

"That is horrible. How are you making it work?"

"Well, Soren had to quit college and then work non stop. He is so brave."

"Your brother quit college?"

"He didn't have a choice."

"I understand. Where does he work now? Maybe we could help."

"It's fine. Lars already helped us. Soren works in his company now."

"Really?" Anya smiles or even smirks, "well, Lars did a good job then. Maybe I raised him well after all. Do you live with him?"

"No. Soren is shy. We have a flat close to Lars' house."

"And you don't mind your brother dating a man?" she tilts her head.

"Why on Earth would I mind? People should be with someone they love. Gender, skin color or age shouldn't matter.

When you find a person that treats you well, you should be with him.

Same genders are different from man and a women in a relationship. Soren can be with Lars and they can even get married from all I care.

And if they want to have a child, they can, and I will love that child.

Everyone who disagrees should look in the mirror first and see if maybe THEY aren't the problem." 💅🙄💅

I explain to both of his parents and they stay silent.

"Right, so ... you support it." Anya nods and gulps.

"Yeah, did you know that June is a pride month. I cannot wait for it.

I hope you will support your family on the month." I look at them.

"Well, we could – we could do something." She looks at José who blinks.

"We could put a little gay flag in the hallway." He shrug.

I laugh to myself. Gay flag. "Yes, but it would be better outside so your neighbors can see."

"Neighbors?" he almost falls off of the chair.

"Maybe just inside and we cake by the cake. The one with the stripes." Anya nods.

"Does Lars have many exes?" I raise a brow.

They exchange a look. "Not that we know, he always focused more on work and money than relationships, that's why we are shocked he suddenly came to the party and with a boyfriend!

He usually comes late and alone, complains how he doesn't have time. Today, he's so happy.

"My brother makes him very happy." In many ways ...

"You look very alike. You and Soren. But you are taller."

"He is more feminine than me, but we both look like mom." I nod.

"Well she was a pretty woman than."

"She was, thank you." I remember her face. She used to have a gorgeous smile, but it was fading over the years. Almost as if she knew.

"Are you sleeping over? We have extra rooms?"

"Yes, we are, but I don't think Lars and Soren will want me in the same room."

"They can be in Lars' old high school room and you can just take the guests room. I don't think many others will be staying.

Especially not Adeline, and Victor with the kids, the need to sleep early."

The party is like any other family event, not that I would really know, but that's how I imagine it.

Everyone talks, haves a glass of alcohol and then they go home tired.
