Chapter 31 - Reason #1 for not wearing dresses: You might attract unwanted attention. Big no no
----------
Date, I really don't know any more, I lost my calendar, but maybe somewhere near September.
First rule: Never, ever let you cat talk you into shopping, especially for clothes.
So this was after the whole Gaara going crazy and trying to kill Lee, talking with Naruto and taking him out for Ramen (I miraculously still had money after that, I think he was holding back because i was his sister), and then nearly getting killed by a jaguar sized pissed off female cat, that knows how to fight against ninja's. Seeing as Nala didn't get to kill me, she thought the next best thing was to torture me and take me me Cough* force* Cough to go shopping. And not for any ninja tools or even food, you know stuff that I might need to LIVE! No, she made me go shopping for clothes!!! And what's worse is that we saw Sakura and Ino, who for some odd reason, forgave me for not telling them and all that,.*by the way, apparently Ino had cut her hair in her fight with Saukra, so now all the girls that long hair, now all have short hair, we are all fails* .. Anyway, so we saw them when we were walking *I was being dragged against my will* though the market place. Nala had told them that we were going to go shopping... Oh God, never tell those two you are going shopping, it's scary. So tem where all happy and sparkly like, and they ended up being some accomplishes to Nala in kidnapping me.... HELP ME!! I AM GOING TO DIE!!! Ow, don't hit people, it's mean, and I was just telling the truth... OKAY!! OKAY!!! I'LL STOP!!! PLEASE DON'T HIT ME AGAIN SAKURA!!!!
Okay, so that last thought wasn't really written in my journal... More like spoken out loud and trying to defend one's self when being surrounded by three cry beings with my feet tied up... Yes, they tied up my feet after I tried to run away many. Many times.
So here I was, lying on the ground covered in dirt, with me legs tied up, with a giant bump on my head from Saukra hitting me again after I called her a cow, with tears streaming down my face.
"Oh quit you crying Harmony... A little shopping isn't going to hurt!! It's actually going to be really fun!!!" Ino said to me. I stopped crying.
"Yeah, it would be, if I was shopping for a new limited addition kunia, or maybe a new book or something like that. Not being help against my will to try on... shudder... dress." I said up to them, only to regret it about 2.1 seconds later when they all shared a look and smiled down evilly at me.
'Oh Harmony, we never said anything about try on dress, just clothes, but now that you said that...' Nala said to me, making me instantly pale and try to crawl away, but the girls were too quick. They scooped me up and ran to the closed dress shop with me in the air, crying once again. Once they were in the shop they threw me to the ground and stared to run around randomly picking up anything that caught their eyes. Now the only reason didn’t leave, which I so would have, was because my own cat, was standing guard, not letting me move a muscle. After about 10 minutes of Sakura and Ino running around like they were chickens with their heads cut off, and not to mention yelling at each other every few seconds, then came up to me with their arms filled with dresses, all shapes, colours and patterns.

"Uh... You don't expect me to try those on do you?" I asked them, eyeing the dresses. They nodded their heads happily.
"Yup, every last one!" Sakura squealed.
"You'll probably look gorgeous in all of them, I mean with you hair and eyes, and not to mention you figure!!! You have to tell me how you stay so thing!!!" Ino squealed just as loud. I winced and tried to back away, but Nala growled at me.
'Don't you dare try anything, remember, it was either this or me burring you alive.'
'I think right now I would have that... At least I could get out of that and maybe survive to see the new day...'
'I heard you.' Nala said with her ears flatten down. I raised my arms in a defence stance.
"Sorry!!! Sorry!! Don't kill me!!!! I'll do whatever you say!!!!!" I begged her. The three of them smiled, before they threw all the dresses they had at me.
"Then go try these on!!!" Sakura and Ino said at the same time, while Nala purred and shrunk down and jumped onto Sakura's shoulder. Ino ran up to me and untied my feet before all three of them went and sat down in front of a changing room. I muttered something non-intelligent under my breath before I picked up the dress and heaved them into the changing room. I was just about to go to my doom and do as they said when Sakura stopped me.
"Wait Harmony, before you go in, take off your goggles." I looked at her.
"Why?"
"Because they will ruin every dress you try on, now hand them over." I sighed and took out my frozen flower, acting like a hairpiece and slip off my giant orange goggles off my neck and gave them too her before twisting my hair into a mess ponytail and sticking my flower back onto my hair. I then put a hand on my hip.
"Is there anything else you might want me to do, like, oh, I don’t know, maybe throw my off a cliff that is covered with spikes?" I asked them sarcastically.
'You already did do that, idiot.' Nala reminded me. I sweat drop and walked into the changing room. I slowly closed the door behind me and turned around, looking at the massive sea of dresses in front of me. I felt like fainting. I would die before I am able to try these all on. I slowly picked up a yellow one that went to my knees and had short sleeves, and tried it on, before opening the door to show them. They all shock their heads.
"No, it's doesn't really complement your eyes." Sakura said.
"Well then why did you pick it out?!" Ino said to her.
"I thought it would make her hair look redder." Sakura shot back.
"Oh so you were trying to make her more of a ginger."
"NO!"
"YES!"
"NO!!"
"BILLBOARED BROW!!!"
"INO-PIG!!!" I don't know how, but somehow calling me a ginger stared a fight between them. I took the chance to look for an escape route, but Nala stopped me.
'Go try on another dress, ginger.' I hung my head and made my way back to my cell, and closed the door behind me. 'Wait, did they just say that I had no soul?!!' I lifted a piece of hair to look at it, before sighing and letting do, then trying on another dress. 'Makes sense that I would have no soul, I mean, if I did, I would have died all those years ago...' Apparently, the next dress I wore looked like an old lady dress, and the next made me look like a balloon, a little girl, and a slut. This went on or the next half an hour, with me trying on numerous dresses and all of them getting rejected.

"Hey guys, can we just leave now? I am pretty sure that no dress will look good on me, so let’s just go." I said from inside the changing room.
"That's not happening Harmony, you still have a few more to try on, there was to be at least one good one!!" Sakura said back to me.
"Yeah, there has to be one, and it's obviously going to be that I picked, you can always tell which on billboard brow over here picked." And that was Ino.... '3... 2... 1... Now..."
"WHAT DID YOU SAY INO-PIG?!"
"I SAIDTHAT ALL THE DRESSES YUO PICK ARE HORRIBLE AND NOT FLATTERING AT ALL!!!"
"WELL AT LEAST I AM TRYING TO MAKE SURE SHE LOOKS PROPER, UNLIKE YOU, WHERE ALL THE DRESS YOU PICK MAKE HER LOOK LIKE A SLUT!!!!" 'Wow... that some powerful words, and words I would never think the pinkette would say....'' I said in my mind as I picked up another dress. When I looked at me, it started to make me worry. It was a baby-blue, had a very low cut, with no straps, no back, and it went down to my mid-thighs. Something that Ino had picked. I slowly put the dress on, feeling uncomfortable. The cut was so low in the front that my 'Tattoo' I got from Kabuto was showing fully, and seeing as there was no back, my other 'tattoo' was in full sight too. Before I had tried to only pick up dress that covered both of them, but like Sakura said, they wanted me to try on ALL the dresses. I slowly opened the door and closed it, my back to them. Not the smartest thing to do, seeing that my back of covered with black swirls, but I didn't want them to see the one in the front. The reaction I got was expected. Everyone, but Nala, so just Sakura and Ino gasped.
“Oh My God, Harmony, what did you do to your back?" I heard Ino say. I looked over my shoulder, giving her a small smile.
"Long story, but it's not a tattoo sadly, but just as painful, if that's what you’re thinking." I said to her, she looked at me with even wider eyes. Sakura had a hand over her mouth. I slowly turned around, letting them see the over one. This time, Ino was covering her mouth. I sadly looked down at it. "And sadly, this one almost cost me my life, and shows as a reminder, though I wish it didn't..."
"I-Is that where you got...?" Sakura couldn't finish her question. I nodded sadly.
"Yeah, this is where Kabuto had stabbed me during the prelims. The docs said it healed perfectly, but there should have been a scar, but instead, something like black ink formed over it, and after a few hours, formed this, covering the scar that should be there."
"But, how is that possible? I mean, something like that shouldn't just 'appear'." Ino said to me. I shrugged.
"Maybe they are reminders that I shouldn't be here, that I 'should have died many, many years ago.... As far as I know, I have barley escapes death many times, and maybe a few times to many.' I said to them before turning back to the dressing room. "Now let’s get off this topic of death and tattoos, let's talk about something else." I gave Nala a look. "Oh and if you want to talk about my past, don't ask her, she likes to weave lies into it to make it seem more exciting and happy then it really is." That was all I said before I walked back to the change room and began trying on a different dress. No one spoke for a while, so I came out again with a hand on my hip.
"So what, no one's going to talk at all? There has to be something you girls are dying to know about from my past." I said to them. Ino and Sakura both look down at my goggles that where laying down in-between them and them they both looked back at me, with secret smiles on their faces. I raised an eyebrow at them, waiting. Sakura was the one to voice their question.
"Well, I have... I mean, we have been wondering, but ever since the land of waves, you have all ways wore these goggles... Why?"
"I wear them because they are exactly like the ones one of my teammates wore. He all ways wore them, he didn't like getting dirt into his eyes...." I said with a straight face. 'Is that it? I was expecting them to bombard me with question about my relationships or something..."
"Was he your boyfriend or something!!!?” Ino blurted out. I raised my eyebrow even higher. 'And there it is.' I sighed and shock my head.
"Hell no... Let's just say that he was almost identical to Naruto. Would you date him? In a sense I did love him, but as a brother in a way." I said to them before I turned back to the changing room. It was obvious that if I didn't get a reaction from them, it wasn't the right one.
"LIKE NARUTO!??! We feel so sorry for you Harmony, if must have been torture!" They said from the other side of the door. I laughed.
"On some days it was, but most of time he was an amazing friend, and I knew if I ever need a hand, he would be one of the first. He really liked it when I played my flute. He would even blush sometimes if I hugged him."
"Maybe he liked you. This wouldn’t be that hard, I mean, your beautiful Harmony, beautiful, smart and strong." Ino said. I shook my head again, even if they couldn't see it.
"That would be impossible, I knew for a fact that he only wanted to be friends, and I was happy about that, and besides, there would be two things stopping us. 1. He was in love with our other lone female teammate, Rin, and 2. His clan would have never let us date. His clan kinda had, and still does, have a grudge against the Hidden Melody clan."
"Why?" One of then asked. I open the door showing them the new dress and answered their question.
"Well, they didn't really like that such a small clan was more powerful than them, and they didn't like our colourful hair and eyes."
"What clan was he from?" Sakura asked.
"Oh, the same as Sasuke, the Uchiha clan. His name was Obito Uchiha." I said calmly to them, and fixed my hair in a mirror nearby. Both of them freaked out.
"WHAT?! BUT YOU SAID HE WAS LIKE NARUTO?! HOW CAN A BOY LIKE THAT BE LIKE THE IDOIT?!!" They screamed. I turned around and saw that they were both sanding.
"Chill. Just because Obito was from the all mighty Uchiha clan, he wasn't powerful or emo like Sasuke, he was a klutz and always late, and he always had someone insulting him, making him feel the need to prove himself. Now was there anything else?" I asked them. The nodded their heads.
"Yeah, if... was Obito your only guy teammate?" Ino asked me. I shook my head no.
"Naw... I was on a larger than normal team before, so there was me and three other teammate, and my sensei." I said to them. "And let me guess, you want to know if I liked my other male teammate?" They nodded their heads. “I sure did, a lot, but didn't know it for the longest time, but now he is a complete ass, so now, no." I said to them before I walked back to the changing room. Sakura and Ino exploded again. Nala must have found this hilarious, because I could hear her cat laughs over the two girls yells. I couldn’t help but laugh at them as I listen to them trying to form questions, but not able to make a single one. It took then several minutes to make one, and it was really simple.
"WHY?!" I played with my hair a little but, making my hair in my pony tail cur a little.
"Simple. He was my best friend, even though he was an arrogant, cold, emotionless ass" I said to them though the door before I sat down on the bench that was in the change room. "He had made a promise to me when we were little that he would never let any on hurt me, not the physical way, because I could protect myself, but protect me emotionally wise. The funny thing is, he broke that promise, and he was the one that hurt me, and the bastard dog doesn't even care. Not that it matters any more, I made it ever clear that I want nothing to do with him."
"What, you mean he is still alive?" They sad at the same time.
"Yeah, unfortunate, he had to the only one besides me left out of the original team, the jerk." I said to them, before I stood up again and opened the door showing them the dress I had put on. Both of them were speak less from what I had said. "Now are we here to torture me with my past life or to torture me with making me trying on these stupid dresses?" They both weren’t saying anything, even Nala had stopped laughing. I walked up to Sakura and waved a hand in front of her face. No response. I next went to Ino and rapped my hand against her skull.
"Heellloooo?? Annnnyyoonnee hoooommme?" I dragged out. It took a few seconds before Ino blinked her eyes and shook her head, then looked at me, seeing my confused expression. "You all right?" I asked her. Ino nodded.
"Yes, sorry, I was just surprised, well I think everyone was surprised how beautiful you look in that dress." Ino said to me. I looked at her surprised, before knocking on her head again. She cried out an 'Ow' and grabbed my hand. "What the hell was that for?!" Took my hand back.
"Sorry, I just thought that you weren't fully back yet. I mean, my mom use to look beautiful in any dress, my dad, he would have look extremly handsome in dress clothes, same as my older brother, hell, by the way the girls use to drool over him, I'm sure he could have even pulled off a dress!! But me, no way in hell have I looked good in a dress, and I know for a fact that I still will never look good in a dress. Tanks and cargos, all good, skirts, I'll try, but only if they are certain clothes and lengths, dresses, hell no." I said to her. She just gave me a look with an eyebrow raised; stealing the look I gave them before.
"You had an older brother?" She asked in a Hey, if his beautiful, I'll bang him even if he is like thirty years old.
"Did." I corrected her. "He died with the rest of my family when I was five. See this is why I don't believe you, one thing about a good looking guy, and you can't think about anything else, now I am going to get this stupid thing off, and then I am going to my hotel room." I said to her, before turning around, only to have someone grab my arm and turn me around.
"Harmony, please believes us, and don't go, please." Sakura said. "I mean, we are all having so much fun here, and you do truly look great in the dress, I mean, did you even look in the mirror before you came out?" I took a piece of hair and stared to twirl it.
"Well... No... I didn't look. Do you want me to or something?" I asked her, but she quickly shook her head and held up a finger.
"No, not yet. You look beautiful like we said, but the outfit is missing something... I can't figure it out..." She said before she placed a finger to her chin.
'Sakura, I think I know, here, follow me.' Nala jumped off the bench and lead Sakura down different isles, leaving me with the boy-dreaming Ino. I slumped down onto the bench and wished I had wished my flute or journal still with me, but they were both in the change room.
"Hey Harmony, how much older was you brother?" Ino asked me, in a sly sort of way. I gave her a dangerous look.
"I would rather you not day dream about my deceased brother, and by the way, he was 11 years older than me, so he is 26 years older than you, and even if you were closer to his age, you would never even come close to him, I would make sure if it." Ino paled and scooted away from me, and I 'hmphed' and looked the other way, tapping my fingers against my arms. After a few more minutes, Saukra with Nala on her shoulder came running up to me with some things in her hands.

2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

8 136Binary Progression: Torrented Edition
This was ment to be the self-published 'real' book of Binary Progression; turns out there isn't much of a market for this kind of story... that and it sucked! As such I am writing another (more successful) series but this was just laying about my book folder so I'm posting it here, please forget the fact I said it sucked, pretty please. JohnWillStab is the poorly-named shut-in on a quest to get into MMOs after a failed online career backfired leaving him uninterested in his speciality, strategy games. He discovers an old, abandoned game with an active, albeit very eccentric, community of no more than five-hundred players on a single server maintained by an unknown individual. Unbeknownst to him, the game he found is more than just an ordinary WoW clone and after many adventures with his group, they make the terrifying discovery that after two full volumes this story becomes a god damn isekai. What’s worse, JohnWillStab, the number-one edgelord on the server is somehow ending up in positions of power despite literally being an undead rogue with evil magic tentacles! Will John’s edginess ruin the isekai? Why does the doctor have the highest kill-count in the game? Is 👑 really a valid character you could use for your username? Can the chef perform an exorcism? Why is God asking John for chicken nuggets? Really, he could just spawn them in - in fact, we saw him spawning food in before!
