It had been a few weeks since Mia had officially taken over as Sebastian's assistant and he was definitely not going easy on her.
Most of the time, he was completely professional, barking orders at her with a lot more volume than needed, but that she could stand. A rude boss - it wasn't exactly something new, a lot of people had them.
It wasn't that Sebastian had forgotten the animosity between the two of them but at the end of the day, she was still working for him and had a job to do. If she didn't do that well, then it could effect his own work and there was no way he'd let that happen.
However, there were moments where he would find ways to piss Mia off completely.
They would be little, minor things, but just irritating.
It became clear to Mia that Sebastian was going to go out of his way to trip her up, mess with her, or cause her to fail. He was going to hold true to his words and make her life difficult - but she was going to stay true to her words well. She was going to fight back.
Whatever he put in front of her, Mia found a way to excel each time, much to Sebastian's fury.
Despite the little things he did to annoy her, Mia was actually surprised by one thing; Sebastian was actually quite dedicated to his work.
She had assumed that Sebastian wouldn't be someone to take his work seriously, or would at least slack off but she found none of that. If anything, he actually worked later than most, staying back to finish off his work. Unfortunately for her, it meant staying back with him at times.
It was just that, this was his father's company, if he wanted he probably didn't have to work this hard at all and yet he did anyway. She was forced to acknowledge that whilst he was a complete prick, he had a work ethic beyond what she'd seen before.
Only later did it actually make a little more sense to her, that he probably worked himself like this to prove himself. Mia would admire or respect this... but he was still a prick.
After another long week at work, it was finally the weekend again, which meant rest.
Sunday's can be so lazy, especially when you know its the last day before you have to go back to work. Ideally doing something productive on the day would be better, but it's just so easy to spend it doing nothing.
Mia thought she could just relax her mind for the day, before having to go back to the office and keep up with Sebastian's tantrums.
She spent most of the day with her girls, both of them deciding they would also have a lazy day too.
It was nearing evening time and whilst Chloe went out for a run and Nicole napped, Mia decided to do some reading whilst lying in bed, only for her phone to ring.

Mia glanced at the screen, assuming it was one of those cold-calls, but then grinned seeing her brother's name and immediately sat up.
"Aaron!" She squealed in happiness.
"Hey, monkey. Try not to deafen me, yeah?"
The little nickname that he had for her, always made Mia grin.
"How are you? How's Melissa? You haven't called in while, what's that about?" She bombarded him with questions.
"Easy there, Mia. Save some of your breath for tomorrow," Aaron joked and Mia rolled her eyes. "I'm doing great, just working away as usual, Melissa is perfect as always and I haven't called in while because I've been super-busy with a project, for which I apologise."
Aaron had moved away to France with Melissa a few years ago, with him managing to secure a job over there and Melissa going with him for support, later finding something for herself too.
The two of them were high-school sweetheart and later got engaged a couple of years after university. They were both still young, however anyone that knew them, knew that it was an eventuality for them to be married in the future.
Mia was initially upset at the idea that Aaron would be moving away to another country, despite knowing that it was a great opportunity for him. However, being as close as they were, it was still hard at first. Of course later became easier to adapt to the new normal.
"You're forgiven. Just don't let it happen again," Mia then told him.
"Never. Anyway, tell me how you're doing?"
The siblings often had this little catch-up phone call, which was mostly Aaron's way of checking up on Mia, something she knew.
When Mia had told her parents about her wish to move out and live with Nicole and Chloe, initially it was met with a cold response. They were too worried about her safety and general well-being if she were to move away from home. It took a lot of convincing and Aaron's help to finally get them to agree.
Mia knew that Aaron would call to check-in with her, because she was more likely to tell him what was going on, than her parents.
"I'm good. Enjoying my weekend off so far."
"Ah, before having to go back to the boring accounting work?" Aaron chuckled into the phone.
There were quite a few times that Mia had complained about her job to him.
"I wish," Mia then sighed. "I think I actually miss those days."
Before her job felt like it was a little unfulfilling, since it wasn't something she was interested in. However, she'd rather be doing that, the be in the company of Sebastian.
"What? What are you talking about? Did you get a new job?"
At Aaron's questions, Mia froze. She realised for weeks now she avoided telling him about her new role, only to have let it slip now.
"Nothing," she tried to quickly dismiss his questions, but then though that was a terrible move.

"Mia."
She hated it when he used that older brother tone on her.
Mia sighed. "Fine, I'll tell you. But you can't yell at me."
The last thing she wanted was Aaron being mad at her and he definitely would be after what she had to tell him.
"That depends on what you tell me. I'm not making any promises. Now, spill."
"I am, temporarily, Sebastian Carter's assistant."
There was moment of silence as she said the words and despite trying to emphasise that this set-up wasn't forever, Mia knew that Aaron wasn't going to care.
"You're working for him!?" Aaron yelled into the phone in disbelief.
After the stunt that Sebastian had pulled in high school, the degrading words he called Mia including stealing a kiss from her, Aaron wanted to punch the guy who he used to call his best mate.
From that moment, he had cut his friendship with most of his friends, Sebastian, Blake, especially Tucker and Victoria. It hurt him deeply to do so, but no friendship was worth his little sisters' tears.
"Aaron," Mia sighed.
She completely understood why he was yelling, it was justified. Aaron was the one to pick up the pieces once Mia completely broke down. He had somehow found out that she was being bullied at school and talked her parents into homeschooling.
"No Mia. Don't you remember what he did? What they all did?"
The last thing he wanted, was for anyone from the past to be back in Mia's life.
"No Mia, don't you remember what he did? What they all did?" He yelled through the phone once more.
"Of course, I remember," Mia replied.
There was no question about that. She could probably never forget that night. The weight of it, still felt like it was on her shoulders.
"Then why are you working for him?" Aaron asked, his voice a lot softer now. "When you told me you were working at Carter, you reassured me that you'd stay away from him, and now you're working right under him, as his bloody assistant."
"Aaron, please calm down," Mia tried to tell him, hearing her brother get all riled up.
Mia hated keeping anything from her brother and she knew she should've told him, instead of keeping it away but she didn't want him to get all worked up like this either.
When she first got the job at Carter and eventually found out it was where Sebastian would work, she had told Aaron, who didn't want her working there.
It took a long conversation and a lot of reassuring to put his mind at ease, with Mia telling him that she would never see Sebastian. For three years she kept good on that, for her own sake too, only to now be working directly for him.
She then heard Aaron take a deep breath.
"I'm worried about you, Mia," he said, the concern he had evident in his voice.
Mia smiled. "I know and I understand. This wasn't something I wanted to happen either. I was offered the role through his Dad and I didn't want to stay in accounting forever, you know that," Mia told him.
Aaron was well aware of how long it took Mia to get her job and also knew that she was forcing herself to work in accounting, but this wasn't what he wanted for her in terms of a new role.
"But him?" Aaron replied exasperated.
"It's just for a few months. He's a part of my past and how can I that I've actually moved on, if I can't face him with my head held high," Mia tried to reason.
"Doesn't it bother you?" Aaron asked.
The thought of Sebastian near his sister definitely bothered him.
"Of course it does, but I've grown up since then. I'm not the girl who just takes everyone's shit anymore," Mia replied.
"You're still my baby sister though," he pointed out, which caused Mia to smile.
She was a grown up adult, yet for Aaron, she'd always remain his little monkey. He would always try his best to protect her from the big bad world.
"I know," she replied. "I'll take care of myself, I promise."
"I've taught to you how to punch, use that if he ever does something," Aaron told her and Mia laughed into the phone.
That was always something that Aaron was insistent that Mia learn, how to pack a mean punch, should she ever need it. It was a lesson that her Dad wholeheartedly supported.
"Will you visit soon? I miss your face," Mia then said, realising just how much she wanted to see him.
"Well, now that you've mentioned it, we're actually thinking to come home for a few days," he informed Mia.
"Really!?" Mia squealed in excitement, not caring if she disturbed Nicole's sleep at this point, even though that was dangerous territory.
Aaron and Melissa couldn't always come for visits, so whenever they did, it made her incredibly happy.
"Yes. But nothing is confirmed yet. We're still trying to find the right time. I'll let you know if the details soon."
"I can't wait!"
"Me too, monkey. I miss your face too."
The two of them spoke some more, before Aaron hung up, leaving Mia with a happy smile knowing that he would be visiting her soon.
Talking to him had made her Sunday a whole lot better, she was suddenly bubbling with excitement.
However, as the rest of the evening went by and it was time for bed, the cheerful mood did not last. Not when Monday was right around the corner, which meant going back to work and back to him.
