《The Perfect Timing》Chapter Thirty-Nine

I told myself I wouldn't get emotional. After I made fun of Ethan I tried everything in my power for him not to rub it in my face, but the minute Izzy starts to walk down the aisle I completely lose it. My baby girl is dressed up in the prettiest white dress I've ever seen, and I completely lose it.
She's so wobbly, barely holding onto the basket of petals as she tries her hardest to walk towards me. The tiny crowd of guests we had actually invited all say Aw! Or start to laugh, but eventually Mary grabs onto her hand and leads her the rest of the way. I quickly walk over to give her a hug and a kiss. "You look beautiful, baby girl." I whisper into her ear, passing her back over to Mary so that I can get to my spot by the altar.
It's hot as hell outside, the sweat prickling on the back of my neck. The view of superstition mountain behind me certainly makes up for it though, and I realize immediately why Maddie wanted to get married here so badly. It's beautiful.
The sun has just started to set, a bunch of pinks and blues settling down right over the mountain. There's fake candles lighting the aisle, and the vibe is immaculate. It's romantic, it's beautiful, it's everything I've envisioned and more for our wedding.
Finally, the music changes, and my heart completely drops into my stomach. All of the guests rise to wait for Maddie's arrival as Ethan leans over to my ear to whisper, "you owe me twenty dollars."
I had bet him that I wouldn't cry when she walked down the aisle, but I realize tears are already on my cheeks and I haven't even seen her yet. "Whatever." I laugh and elbow him in the side. "This is so not the time, man."
She chose Can't Help Falling in Love, the cover by Haley Reinhart, and when the lyrics hit me, explaining our entire love story perfectly, I take the tissue that Ethan passes over to me, thankful he doesn't make anymore fun.
Richard rounds the corner with Maddie on his arm, and I feel my heart instantly stop beating. I can't breathe, I can't speak, all I can see is her in that dress, and it's like all of my dreams are coming true right in front of me.
She's crying too, and it's agonizing that I have to wait for her to walk down this damn aisle. I want to hold her in my arms, I want to let her know how breathtaking she is right now.
"Mama!" Izzy shouts and points to Maddie, and it's the comic relief everyone seems to need. I laugh and dab away more of my tears as finally Maddie reaches me. I shake hands with Richard before I'm finally able to help her up the steps to the podium. Her fingers are shaking in mine, but when our eyes lock she seems to instantly relax.
"You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, Maddie." I tell her, and that smile that I love comes onto her face, so huge that a dimple ends up coming onto her right cheek.

It's windy since we're in the desert, so I take one of her perfectly curled ringlets and put it behind her ear to keep it out of her face as the officiant begins the ceremony. I don't remember anything he says, and I don't think Maddie does either, we're too busy staring at each other until it's time for the vows.
Maya gives Maddie her vow book, Ethan giving me mine. Maddie is going first, and she lets out a shaky breath before she looks out at the crowd and then back to me.
It's a very small ceremony, only about thirty people in total. Maddie wanted small and intimate, and I did too. Maya and Ethan were the only ones in our party, but I can understand why Maddie is nervous right now. She's having to open up about her feelings for me in front of everyone. It's a lot.
"Cam." She starts, but her voice cracks from being on the verge of tears. "Oh god, I hope I can get through this."
Everyone laughs in the crowd, seeming to put her at ease before she clears her throat again. "I have dreamed of marrying you since I was in the sixth grade, but I never thought my dream would eventually turn into a reality. Dreams in the sixth grade are normally for writing down in your diary and forgetting them two years later, but you..." she stops again and lets out another breath. "You were always there for me. Even when we grew apart in high school, and even when there were times I didn't know if we'd find our way back to each other, we always did."
I'm glad I'm not the one wearing makeup, because I'm blubbering like an actual idiot. My heart is racing, my palms are sweating, and I'm not sure if I can hear anymore without pulling her into my chest and kissing the living hell out of her.
"I promise to always do the same for you. I promise to always be there, even if the times are dark. I promise to love you for the rest of time, and if you find yourself lost then I promise to remind you why we always found our way back to each other. I promise to always be there. Forever."
She closes her book, and you can hear everyone sniffling as I fumble with my book to get it open and take the mic. "I'm not sure how I'm supposed to top that..." I chuckle. "But here it goes."
Letting out a deep breath, I push the nerves to the side and look at Maddie and Maddie only before I begin to speak. "Mads, when I first met you, you were the kindest person I think I've ever met. Ethan stole my popsicle at our first family gathering, and you saw me pitch a fit. You were younger than me, yet you offered me your popsicle rather than keep it for yourself. Although I was too young to think about relationships or marriage at that point, I knew you would be important to me, and so we became best friends instead."

"Cam." Maddie laughs in disbelief, sobbing into her tissue, Maya weeping alongside of her.
"From getting ice cream, to playing video games with Ethan, to riding our bikes across town every summer, you stole my heart before I even realized it. You had it long before I knew I was ready to give it to someone, and when we first started dating I remember asking myself why I hadn't come to my senses a long time ago. I was terrible to you in high school, and everyone who knows me knows that I was a completely different person back then. Am I right?"
The guests on my side of the venue let out some laughs when I turn to stare at them, and Maddie can't even look at me from all of the tears.
"But then as I thought about it, I realized that you made my decision so simple about choosing to make you my wife, Maddie. Marriage is about loving someone during all versions of themselves, and you've loved every single one of mine. When my mom passed, when I discovered girls for the first time, when Ethan stole my popsicle and you saw me angry, you loved me. Every version of me, and that's why I stand here before you today to let you know that I will love all versions of you, too. Even if those versions aren't versions that I like, I promise to always stand beside you, and, to feed off of your vows, I promise to always be there. Always. I am truly and utterly in love with you, Maddie Davis, and I'm so happy that this is the last time I'll have to say Davis instead of Holden."
There's not a dry eye in the room. Even Ethan is sniffling behind me as we pass them our vow books again and I grab onto her hands once more.
"I love you." She whispers through her tears.
The officiant starts up again, and after I repeat what he tells me to I can't focus any longer on what he's saying. It's agonizing to stand here and wait. It's torturous. It's not until he looks between us again with a smile on his face that I feel jittery and overwhelmed with a rush of excitement.
Finally.
The moment I've been waiting my entire life for.
"By the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride."
Immediately pulling her into my chest, I kiss her deeply, my hands gripping onto this dress for dear life. Shouts and cheers erupt behind us, but all I can focus on is the fact that this woman is officially mine and I am hers. There is no greater feeling.
"It is with great honor and delight that I present to you Mr. and Mrs. Holden!"
Swooping her into my arms, I race down the aisle as flower petals are thrown onto us. I can't get inside of the venue fast enough, and finally, when we're surrounded by cold air and silence, Maddie presses her lips to mine again.
It's soft and slow, and I cherish this moment forever. I make sure to store it into whatever the hell compartment I need to. In seconds we'll be surrounded by people again, and dancing, and music, but right now it's just the two of us as husband and wife.
"I am so happy." I smile down at her, but she brings my lips to hers again and wriggles out of my grasp to stand on the floor.
I'm trying to keep up with her kiss, knowing immediately where this is heading. This is the type of kiss that's dangerous as hell. The type of kiss that lets me know that she's thinking of nothing else but me right now.
Tugging on my tie, she drags me down a tiny hallway and jumps into my arms so that she can straddle me from the front. I move her higher up my waist so that she can reach my lips, loving the way her fingertips gently scrape down the sides of my face.
"Mads." I sigh when she starts to kiss down my neck. "People are going to come in here at any second."
"I don't care." She pants, pulling away breathlessly before she scans my eyes. "I-I'm just so happy. You're mine, and you in this tux." She scans my face over and tugs on my tie again. "I want you."
"I know, baby." I kiss her gently on the forehead, giving her ass a gentle squeeze. "But we won't have enough time, and believe me when I say..." I kiss up her neck, hearing a tiny gasp escape her mouth when my lips reach her earlobe. "I want to take my damn time with you tonight, Mrs. Holden."
"Oh god." She whimpers.
"We're flying to the most beautiful place you'll ever see." I whisper and bite down gently onto her earlobe before I add, "and it's a place that I know for certain I can make you scream as loud as you want to."
"Please." She begs, tugging on my curls, and I'm about to give in until Maya rounds the corner, rolling her eyes and placing her hands on her hips.
"I knew you wouldn't make it to the honeymoon." She says. "Sorry to interrupt, but the wedding planner wants you guys to look at the reception decor before you let everyone inside."
Maddie slumps her shoulders in defeat as I set her back down, and I press my tongue against the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing. It's not funny, but I love that Maddie is always ready no matter where we are.
"Tonight." I whisper lowly so that Maya can't hear. "As soon as we land I'm taking you right then and there, baby. We'll make love all damn night."
