"Where's the fire?" He joked, his voice low and confident. Seriously? Even though he may not know what I saw in the woods, he was going to greet me with a joke after our argument the other night?!

My shoulders rose and fell as I took deep breaths - partly from the running, partly from the anger and fear that filled me. I gave him a long, cold look and spun around, storming off in the other direction.

"Hey, hey! Danielle!" He called after me. "Stop!"

I spun around, stopping abruptly causing him to almost crash into me. "You stop! Stop following me, I don't want to see you!"

His whole face went dark, anger creeping into every crevasse of his face. I then realised what I had done. Didn't my mother ever teach me to not torment boys who were bigger than you and could possibly have the ability to turn into a killer animal?

No? Oh, that's right. Because this is insane.

But none the less, my blood went cold and fear began bubbling in my stomach.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm down. This boy was mesmerising and all but man, he had a lot of stored up anger.

"What's wrong?" He finally spoke, his voice strained but the anger on his face gone, replaced with that closed off mask.

I took a step back, images from the night before flooding my mind. "I have to go," I backed away and jogged to my next class, trying to push aside all my emotions. I was safe here, at least. No one was going to turn into an animal in a place like a school.

I thought I was fine, that I'd avoided all confrontations, with five minutes left in my english class, the door practically crashed open and in stepped none other than Levi. I noticed, with anger rising, that the girls in the class instantly sat straighter and looked more alive. Some even started playing with their hair. Pathetic.

"Sorry to interrupt," he said in a voice that was clear he wasn't sorry. "But can I please speak to Danielle Parker?" Again, not a question.

But surely the teacher wouldn't hand me over to someone who wasn't even part of the staff. In fact, what was Levi doing at school?

The man blinked quickly, mouth slightly ajar. Levi raised an eyebrow, pushing him into motion. "Uh yes, Miss Parker?"

A girl behind me sighed longingly. "Lucky bitch." I shot her an incredulous look, before looking at the teacher pleadingly.

"I think I should stay for this. I don't want to miss anything important," I stuttered slightly, avoiding the burning stare Levi was shooting at me.

"I'll go!" A girl from the back called, causing the class to laugh.

"Miss Parker, you won't miss anything. Off you go." Wow. So much for the teachers keeping the students safe. Why did Levi have so much sway everywhere?!

Sighing, I got up and walked out the door, brushing past Levi and trying not to get overwhelmed by his amazing scent. No. I'm angry at him. I'm not attracted to him.

Who was I kidding?

But I was scared of him, so that counts for something.

In the hallway, I crossed my arms and gave him my best bored look. Even that was hard, as my heart rate picked up just looking at him. Memories of the feeling of his fingers touching my skin were attacking the walls I was trying to put up.

"Look, I want to clear a few things up. I'm sorry you feel like we are hiding things from you. The truth is I'm under a lot of pressure with work at the moment and can seem preoccupied, which tends to involve a lot of people in this town. We have sensitive clients. That's all." He looked at me from those big beautiful eyes, and I almost caved. Instead, I scoffed.

"Work? That's what's going on? The whole town is screwed up because of your work?"

He looked away, rubbing a hand on the back of his neck. "It's complicated. But basically, yes."

"And that's it? That's the only abnormal thing you can think of," I replied sarcastically, feeling myself getting worked up again.

"I don't know what else you want me to say. There's nothing else."

I threw my hands in the air, laughing bitterly.

"What can I do to change your mind?" He asked, sounding frustrated. No way was he allowed to be frustrated with me. In that moment I felt all my anger and confusion and frustration boil up into one ball of emotion, and I looked him dead in the eye, speaking in a cold, hard voice.

"So you dance around fires in the middle of the woods at night for fun?"

His eyes snapped up to mine. "What?"

I laughed coldly. "You heard me. What is it? Some kind of cult? An innocent camping trip?"

I didn't want to outright say what I'd seen, in case he was dangerous. I knew he wouldn't hurt me, but the information I have might be enough to either put me in a padded room or something much worse...

For once, he had no words. He stared at me in horror and shock, breathing heavy. "What did you see?"

I shook my head, looking away. He took a step closer to me, a sense of urgency in his movements. "Danielle tell me, what did you see?"

I frowned at him, at the desperation in his voice. "I..." I couldn't bring myself to say the words. What if I'd just been seeing things? Maybe I have gone insane.

"Tell me!" He pleaded, grabbing my arms.

"I saw something unexplainable. I think I'm either going insane, or there are literal monsters that roam the woods."

That was all it took for Levi to turn into something that scared me. His eyes lit up with anger, regret, frustration... he looked crazed. He stepped back, running both hands through his hair.

He opened his mouth to speak, but the bell rang, and the hallways became flooded with students. The last I saw of him was his sad, broken eyes.

I felt like something inside of me broke too. What could he have to do with this insanity that left him so upset? I knew one thing for sure - nothing in this town was as it seemed.
