《Taming Cameron (COMPLETE)》Chapter 21

The following day, Cameron went home to have a long bath, after an exhausting day at work.

She was glad she didn't have to see her psychologist today, because she simply needed the time to herself.

She relaxed in the tub for about twenty minutes, before she decided to get out. As soon as she stepped out, she heard a knock at the door.

Sighing heavily, she quickly pulled on a robe, walking barefooted.

The knock came again, and Cameron muttered a curse, wondering who it was. "Coming!", she called out, trying to find something on her way, to bound her wet hair.

When nothing was to no avail, Cameron groaned, deciding to leave it as it was.

As she opened the door, she paled suddenly when she saw Nate standing before her. Her body seemed numb for a while, thus leaving her motionless.

Nate stared at her like she was a rare gem, his lingering gaze devouring her whole body before it settled on her face. His gulp was visible and he used the tip of his tongue to moisten his lips.

"Hi", was all he could manage to say.

"Hi", she retorted in a croaky tone, briefly closing her eyes to hide her embarrassment. She cleared her throat, looking at him. "Why are you here?", she asked, knowing that she sounded somewhat harsh.

"To talk", Nate informed, his eyes not being able to leave the fresh beauty of her face. In his eyes, she looked so vulnerable, with her hair hanging down her shoulders and a face that was freshly cleaned and tinted with a blush creeping up on her cheeks.

Cameron was hesitant for a while, contemplating whether or not she should let him in. She didn't want to get hurt again and so she thought that pushing him away, would prevent that from happening.

"Please", Nate plead when he realized that she was hesitant.

Cameron played with the hem of her robe as she bit her lips, with eyes lowered to the floor. She then stepped to once side, allowing him entrance.

"Take a seat. I'll be back in a moment", she said, and without awaiting his reply, she strolled from the room.

Nate sighed, plopping down on the soft cushiony surface of the sofa. His eyes traveled around the entire room, noticing the artistic portraits lining the olive green walls. All her furniture was well polished and neatly situated in the room. She was a neat person, he realized with a smile. It was a new experience for Nate, seeing a woman's apartment. He had always rented hotel rooms or have his women visit him at his house whenever he needed their pleasures. This was a first for him, but with Cameron, he found that he had and will have a lot of 'firsts'.

Cameron was in her room panicking as she thought of a way to deal with Nate. His presence had taken her by surprise and she would be lying if she said she wasn't a nervous wreck. Upon seeing him, her heartbeat had plummeted and her palms had gone sweaty, which was a new experience for her. She had never felt nervous around a man before, and right now nervousness was proving to be an understatement.

Straightening her shoulders and clearing her throat, Cameron left the room and went to join Nate.

"I have someplace to be, so you've gotta make this quick", she announced sternly and Nate sighed, rising from the sofa.

He wasn't quite sure where he'd start. He had never proclaimed his love to someone before.

"Cameron, I'm very sorry for hurting you-", he began but Cameron cut him off in mid-sentence.

"You didn't hurt me", she lied, swallowing the lump that formed in her throat.

Nate knew she was lying in order to present a brave front and so he continued, moving a step closer towards her. She took a step back.

He sighed. "I shouldn't have said the things I did and it was wrong of me to act in such a manner towards you. I just...", he trailed off, searching for words to say.

"It took me a while to really come to terms with my feelings, but now that I have, I realized that I have been the biggest jerk ever. I know you have a bad past Cameron, and it really made me upset at first, but then I realized, it is what it is...your past. You don't have to tell me about the heartaches that your past included. I want to spend my days making you forget them", he reached for her hands.

"An emotion crept up on me while we were at my family's reunion and I didn't want to accept it. I was afraid of it, I was afraid to say it to you, but now I want to spend the rest of my days saying those words to you until they become a new language to you. One only the both of us can understand".

Cameron's eyes and throat burned and she knew she was on the brink of tears. She felt overwhelmed and even though she tried to look away from him so he wouldn't see the tears that pooled in her eyes... She couldn't.

She knew the words that Nate was about to say and to be honest, she was afraid of hearing them. She didn't want to hear them because it had only brought her sadness in the past. Those words had only brought her hurt.

"Cameron, I lo-".

"Don't!", she quickly interjected in a croaky plea.

Nate stiffened for a moment but he understood. He directed them to the sofa and they sat, with their hands still entwined.

A trail of tears flowed from Cameron's eyes and Nate used his thumb to brush it away.

"Cameron, I love you. I love you", he exclaimed wholeheartedly, ignoring Cameron, who shook her head vigorously.

She hung her head and stared in her lap, not wanting to meet his gaze. Nate elevated her chin, so her gaze was leveled with his.

"Look at me", he said softly, when Cameron still wasn't looking at him. It took her a moment to do so, but she did.

"Tell me that you don't love me, and I'll leave. I will go and never bother you again", he reasoned and was welcomed by silence.

He looked deeply into her beautiful eyes and saw the sadness that radiated from the glistening orbs, but he knew she couldn't really say the words.

Nate pulled her into his arms and encased her in a warm and loving hug. "You don't have to tell me you love me, but I will spend the rest of my life proving to you, how much I do", he whispered against her neck as Cameron's body trembled.

Hearing the words had caused happiness to consume her body and even though she feared hearing the words at first, now that she heard them, being uttered from the lips of Nathaniel, she didn't want to stop hearing them.

He had told her that she didn't have to say the words, but how could she not when her heart was being overwhelmed by the urge to shout into the moon.

"I love you too and I'm sorry for everything I did to hurt you", she professed in a shaky tone, but she got the message across.

Nate slightly withdrew himself from her embrace to look at her, because he was finding it hard to believe the words that he heard.

He grinned, watching the smile that crept up on the corners of her mouth. "You do?", he choked out in disbelief, and Cameron nodded her yes.

"I do", she confirmed with a laugh.

Nate thought he had felt joy before in his many years of life, but the feeling that consumed him now, proved to him that he had been lifeless until now.

He dropped to his knees, looking up at a befuddled Cameron. "Would you mind saying those two little words a couple of months from now in front of a church full of people?", he asked, and although he had not planned to propose, the moment seemed like the right time.

"Will you make me the happiest man alive, my becoming my wife?", he asked, nervously, hearing the sob that broke out from Cameron.

The tears flowed from her eyes as she nodded down at him.

"Yes", the words came out a little breathless, but Nathaniel Caine had taken her breath away.

He stared at her for a moment, wanting the words to sink in, and then he grinned, moving up to capture her lips with his.

"Thank you", he muttered against the silkiness of her soft mouth, and Cameron smiled, thinking of how lucky she was.

They kissed, exploring the taste of each other desperately. Nate lifted her in his arms as he carried her to the bedroom, lips locked as well as hearts.

THE END :)
