Imam Ali (as) said, "Like your body your mind also gets tired so refresh it by wise sayings."

● "A man can be valued through his sayings."

Imam Zayn al-Abidin (as)'s Supplication

"My Lord, I whisper to you with a heart whose crime has destroyed it.

I call to you, My Lord, with both fear and desire.

I am both hopeful and fearful.

When I see my sins, My Master, I am terrified.

But when i see your generosity, I feel desire ( For your Pardon)."

"My Lord, my sins have silenced me, and my words have been cut off. I have no arguement, for I am the prisoner of my own affliction, the hostage to my works..."

At all phases of his life, Imam Zayn al-Abidin (as) spent his time in supplication and prayers. His keenness in supplication and prayers was so magnificent that wherever his sacred name is called, mourning, insistence in worship, invocations and prayers will come to our mind.

Al-Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya is a book containing Imam al-Sajjad (as)'s 54 supplications and du'as.

After the Quran and Nahj al-balagha this book has an important position.

Al-Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya has been translated into many languages including English, French, Turkish, Urdu, Spanish, Bosnian, Albanian, Tamil, etc.

Although this book is in the form of supplications, it also contains many Islamic teachings mentioned alongside the supplications.

In this book, topics surrounding different issues are explained in the form of supplications such as theology, ideology, anthropology, the Unseen World, angels, the nubuwwa, the position of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and the Ahl al-Bayt (as), Imamate, moral virtues and vices, honoring Eids, social and economic issues, historical points, different blessings of Allah (swt), manners of supplication, recitation, dhikr, prayer, worship, etc.

The most famous supplication of al-Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya is Makarim al-Akhlaq.

Imam al-Mahdi (a.j) recommended to read this book.

Ayatollah Qiraati's Speech,

Abdomen and Lust or Brain and knowledge?

"Our worth is our brain، Allah (swt) placed Brain above and heart (Emotions) below brain. First Brain, Second Emotions. Below Emotions, Abdomen, and under Abdomen Lust. It means Allah (swt) created us this way: Brain, Heart, Abdomen, and Lust. However, some people use these the other way around. They go from bottom to the top. First Lust, Abdomen, and then, there is Emotions.

"In the olden days, people used leather for their book cover, they would spend leather for a book because Book is for Brain. Nowadays, cardboard is used for book covers and leather is used for making shoes. It means Leather came down, cardboard went up!"

He also said, "When the weather gets cold, we wear thicker clothes to keep us warmer and not let the cold affect us. Therefore, when the depravity increases in society, become more virtuous and don't say that the society was filled with corruption so I became sinful."

·.✦Prophet Muhammad (saw) said, "When committing a sin, the knowledgeable man is guilty of the one sin whereas the ignorant man is guilty of two [i.e. the sin itself and the sin of ignorance]."

● "He who seeks knowledge is as one who spends his day fasting and his night praying. Verily a chapter of knowledge that a man learns is better for him than for him to have as much gold as a mountain and give it all away in the way of Allah."

● "He who goes out to seek knowledge, Allah guarantees his sustenance for him."

● "Verily the angels spread their wings over the seeker of knowledge and seek forgiveness on his behalf."

● "He who goes out to seek knowledge is himself sought after by Paradise."

● "Verily everything seeks forgiveness for the seeker of knowledge, including the fishes in the sea, the reptiles on the land, and the predators and livestock of the earth."

● "Seeking knowledge is an obligation on every Muslim. Indeed, Allah loves those who strive in their quest for knowledge."

● "There are two insatiable types of people who are never satisfied by their quest, the seeker of knowledge and the seeker who's after this world."

● "The seeker of knowledge among ignorant people is as the living one among the dead."

● "When death comes to the seeker of knowledge whilst he is in that state [of seeking knowledge], he dies as a martyr."

● "He who cannot endure the submissiveness entailed in learning for an hour will remain submissive to ignorance forever."

● "He who goes out to seek knowledge is indeed on the path of Allah until he returns."

● "The death of a scholar is an affliction that cannot be compensated and a void that cannot be filled, for he is a star that has been obliterated. The death of a whole tribe is easier to bear than the death of a scholar."

● "To sleep having knowledge is better than to pray in ignorance."

● "By the One Who holds my soul in His Grasp! Verily one knowledgeable man is more difficult for Satan to bear than seventy worshippers, for the worshipper serves himself whilst the knowledgeable man serves others."

● "Verily the knowledgeable man is superior to the [mere] worshipper as the sun is to the stars, and the worshipper is superior to the one who does not worship as the superiority of the moon to the stars."

● "Knowledge is the root of all good whereas ignorance is the root of all evil."

● "The quest for knowledge is incumbent upon every Muslim... by virtue of it the Lord is obeyed and worshipped, consanguinal relations are maintained, and the lawful is distinguished from the prohibited. Knowledge leads to action and action follows it.

The fortunate ones are inspired by it whereas the wretched ones are deprived of it."

●"The people who are closest to the rank of Prophethood are the people of knowledge and striving."

● "Looking at the face of a scholar out of love for him is an act of worship."

● "If a saying of mine was to be narrated to you, don't accept it straightaway, refer to Qur'an and brain/reason. If it was according to Qur'an and intellect then accept it."

The above saying is important because we might hear a saying being told by someone that is

not according to Qur'an and is against intellect.

·.✦Imam Ali (as) said, "That knowledge which remains only on your tongue is very superficial. The intrinsic value of knowledge is that you act upon it."

● "Your supremacy over others is in proportion to the extent of your knowledge and wisdom."

● "The fountainhead of all virtues is knowledge and the peak of all virtues is knowledge."

● "Knowledge commands, action drives, and the carnal soul is the obstinate mount."

● "Knowledge is the lamp of the intellect."

● "Knowledge is indeed a good guide."

● "Knowledge is such a dignified thing that he who is not proficient at it claims to be so, and one is pleased for it to be attributed to him. And ignorance is such a rebuked thing that even the one who possesses it claims to be free of it."

● "The mind of a wise man is the safest custody of secrets."

● "There is no treasure more profitable than knowledge."

● "When Allah wishes to repudiate someone, he deprives him of knowledge."

● "He who is overtaken by death whilst he is seeking knowledge, there remains but a difference of one level between him and the Prophets."

● "Verily knowledge is the life of the hearts, the light of the eyes from blindness and the strength of the bodies against weakness."

● "The scholar is alive even when he is dead, whereas the ignorant man is dead even though he may be alive."

● "O you who carry knowledge around with you; are you only carrying it around with you?

For surely knowledge belongs to whoever knows and then acts accordingly, so that his action corresponds to his knowledge.

There will be people who will carry knowledge around with them, but it will not pass beyond their shoulders.

Their inner most thoughts will contradict what they display in public, and their actions will contradict what they know."

● "Wisdom is the noblest heritage;

Theoretical and practical knowledge are the best signs of distinction;

Deep thinking will present the clearest picture of every problem."

·.✦Imam Baqir (as) said, "Revising knowledge for an hour is better than staying up the whole night in worship."

● "The knowledgeable man who is beneficial [to others] as a result of his knowledge is better than seventy thousand worshippers."

·.✦Imam Sadiq (as) was once asked regarding the Prophet (saw)' s saying, "Looking at the faces of scholars is an act of worship." To which he replied, "It refers to the scholar whom looking at reminds you of the Hereafter, and whoever is not thus, then looking at him is a trial."

● "Verily the scholars are the heirs of the Prophets."

● "If people knew [the benefits] of seeking knowledge, they would seek it in spite of having to shed blood or dive into the deepest seas."

•••

"The problem that most of people have is that they don't ask question regarding the things they don't know."

•••

In Judgement Day, some people will arise from their grave. They'll see so many good deeds as big as mountains or as much as clouds that are ready for them.

They'll say, 'O Allah I didn't do all of these good deeds!' They'll be told, 'You taught people good teachings and they followed them. You are going to receive the same rewards as them.'
