《Brother of Wind {book five: Possession}》chapter 15

The four boys sat in Ronin's ship that was now traversing the water.
"We're almost at the tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master." Zane pointed to the map.
"I can't believe we're finally getting there after all this. But the brothers are missing it." Cole sighed.
"I can't believe I'm underwater." Kai pressed his hands against the glass.
"You? What about me? I'm a ghost!" Cole exclaimed.
"Just how thick is this, anyways?" Jay lightly tapped the glass.
"We're heading to your location now. With Neran already ahead of you and able to foresee the traps protecting the tomb with the Sword of Sanctuary, it's going to be up to you four to find the Realm Crystal before he does." Wu said on the screen.
"Hehe, Cole's a Ghost, Kai can't swim, we have no magical sword or Elemental Powers. What could go wrong?" Jay laughed nervously.
"I may not know the three tests you're about to face, but I discovered a riddle that makes reference to it that may help." Misako said.
"A Spinjitzu Master can. A Spinjitzu Master cannot. To move forward, don't look ahead, to find his resting spot." She informed.
. . .
At the entrance of the tomb, Morro, who wasn't really himself anymore, had made it.
Right now, this was just Morro's body, Neran possessing him. Neran entered the door that was at the end of path. There was a room with multiple doors. Every door had a symbol on top of it. The door closed behind Neran.
"Okay... Okay, okay, okay." Neran drew the Sword of Sanctuary but didn't look at it yet.
Neran studied the door, and every image of a master doing an action. Neran copied the first door he chose. Then copied the second. Then the third.
"It's moving?" Neran asked, looking at the blade to be sure.
Morro's spinjitzu.
Neran sighed. He really didn't want to do this. Or keep going, he didn't expect it to keep going.
. . .
The ninja, after a small leviathan attack, were finally at through tomb. With a grand statue of the man with a light in his hands at the front, the ninja made it.
"The tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master." Kai sighed.
"If you wanna hide a tomb, this is the place." Cole tapped his hands.
Jay found a gray scrap of fabric from Neran's shirt.
"Argh! There goes any hope Neran couldn't find this place." Jay pouted.
"Hey, stay positive. We're about to risk our lives going through traps we know nothing about. All we have to rely on is each other." Kai said.
"At least feel luck we got this far."
"Oh, I'm sorry. You're right. What was I thinking?" Jay started.
"Hey, there goes any hope Neran couldn't find the tomb! We're not alone! Yay! And he's probably with Morro, so we're gonna have to fight him again! Sure we got our tails handed to us last time, and all the times before that, but you never know in the future, because ninja never quit!" Jay said in a very obviously not happy tone.

"Better?"
"Eh, I'll take it." Kai shrugged.
"Destination reached. Auto return initiated." Rex said and sunk into the water.
"Auto return? No, no! Bad, Rex! Bad!" Jay shouted. The ninja chased after the ship, but it was already in the water.
"Our Aeroblades where in there!" Zane exclaimed.
"Not to mention, our way out." Kai sighed.
"Hey, stay positive! Who needs a way back when we gotta go that way?" Jay said.
"No sword, no powers, no problem." Kai said.
"We can do this, guys. As long as we got each other, right?" He waved his hands.
"Brother sharpens brother." Cole said, walking on.
. . .
Neran stepped out of the door. The door closed behind him and Neran dropped down.
"Whew." Neran sighed and raised a hand.
"He's tired. Both of them." He said.
"Well, I didn't use Morro's usual style of spinjitzu, either so." Neran glanced at the blade as he got up.
He quickly pulled the blade up, deflecting spikes that shot at Neran. The place where he was standing fell down. Neran stared at the dark void below. Then he sheathed the sword on his back.
"Okay! I'm smart enough! I don't need the sword right now." Neran clapped his hands.
Looking up, a golden staff was at the other end of the room. Neran ran at it, every step triggered a trap. Neran had to jump and avoid water sprouts, spikes, random blades, all out to get him.
Neran had to twist midair and land, them jump back to safe ground. He scanned the area. A podium to his left, in the middle, higher on the left again, then far on the right. That east the best way to reach the staff. Neran took a deep breath and drew the sword.
He jumped over to the first podium on the left, stabbing the sword in the side wall just before his feet touched the rock. Neran's head dropped forwards.
"Uhhhh, Morro.... Why couldn't you just tie your hair back and leave it that way???" Neran groaned and stared up at the blade that held him to the wall.
"Okay, count down. One..." Neran looked at the pillar in the middle.
"Two." Then after that, the high up left.
"Three." Finally, laying eyes on the last pillar before the staff.
Neran pulled himself up and pulled the blade out of the wall, dropping down to the first podium. The quickly jumping to the middle one, using the sword to deflect arrows. Then as soon as Neran touched the pillar, he jumped.
He made it to the left, fire shooting out as soon as he jumped. This far jump, Neran just made it, holding on by his right hand. He used his feet to push off the side of the pillar and jump to the end.

Neran was about to reach the staff when he stopped. His movement slowed and Neran barely grabbed the ledge below the staff's hold.
"Argh!!" Neran inhaled through his teeth.
"Did he break his wrists again? They can't stay healed." Neran sighed and looked down.
He looked back up at the staff then down again. Neran let go.
. . .
"Spinjitzu master can." Kai said, looking at the room of doors he was in.
"A spinjitzu master can what?" Jay asked.
"The symbol above this door, it's a tornado. This could be the one, right?" Jay suggested, pointing to the top.
"You could be right." Kai said. Jay moved to the door.
"Jay, wait!" Zane exclaimed.
"Picture recognition analyzing. Pattern discovered." Pixal said to Zane.
"Step away from that door, Jay." The nindroid pulled him away.
"W-what is it?" Jay asked.
"We're inside a zoetrope." Zane informed.
"A zoe-what?" Kai asked.
"A zoetrope. The engravings in rapid succession creates a moving image." Zane pointed.
"Uh, I don't get it." Cole said.
"A Spinjitzu Master can. Do Spinjitzu!" Kai shouted.
"Exactly." Zane nodded and spun around, his ice blue tornado surrounding his body. The images on the door started to move as Zane spun. The figure on the doors created a yinyang shape.
"That one. That's the door out." Zane pointed to the door with the yinyang symbol.
"I don't know, Zane. Isn't that the same door we came in? Are you sure?" Cole asked.
"Are you sure you want to doubt a Nindroid?" Zane slyly asked.
"Open the door. Let's find out." Kai said. Jay opened the door and found the second test. The room with traps and puzzles.
"But...that's wasn't here before. How can it be the way, if that's the way we came in?" Cole asked.
"Well, welcome to the Tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master." Kai shrugged it off.
"Hey, hey! Nice one, Zane. Who needs the Sword of Sanctuary when you've got a Nindroid?" Jay laughed.
. . .
These are the coordinates Ronin's ship had directed them to." Misako looked deep into the water.
"Then the tomb is right below here." Wu joined her.
That's not all that's here. The ghosts must have paid a visit, but I don't see Ghoultar." Nya pointed to a ghost ship. She looked through a spy glass.
"The ninja must have already taken care of--" She gasped as she saw Soul Archer looking at them.
"They know we're here. Should I arm the cannons?" Nya asked. asked.
"No. Getting into unnecessary battles only distracts us from preparing for the necessary ones still ahead." Wu instructed.
"We wait, but just in case, how is your Water training coming?" He asked.
"Uh, who knows? I can move water but it's not like I can control it. Whatever." Nya shrugged.
"Whatever?" Wu turned to Misako.
"Ronin's indifference is rubbing off on her."
"That girl has always put too much pressure on herself. If she's moving water, perhaps it's working." Misako sajd.
Why don't we attack?" Bansha asked Soul Archer.
"Look at where we are." Soul Archer motioned to the surrounding water.
"We can't risk losing our boat. Let's see who flinches first"
Kai stepped forwards.
"Wait!!" Cole shouted.
"This is the second test, remember? Zane, what do you think?" Cole asked.
"Pixal can see no pattern. For this riddle room, I'm at a loss." Zane admitted.
Think about it. The first test was a 'A Spinjitzu Master can.' So this one's 'A Spinjitzu Master cannot." Jay said.
"Though, saying it out loud, I don't like the sound of that." He laughed nervoulsy.
Hmm." Kai stepped forwards.
"Uh-oh!" Spikws shot out, everyone dodged.
"Is everyone okay?" Cole asked, covering his head.
"Oh, that was a close one." Zane stood up straight.
"Every step, uh, a trap." Jay looked around the room.
"If Neran had already passed through here, he had the agility and skill to reach the staff." Zane said.
"If I'm correct, this riddle room poses quite the conundrum." The nindroid looked for any other places to mive through.
"So if a Spinjitzu Master can't do it, how are we supposed to reach the staff?" Cole asked.
"Watch and learn." Kai said. He used airjitzu, but activated another trap. This continued.
"No. Wait!" Cole shouted.
"Not that one!" Jay called.
"Just stop!" Zane pleaded. Kai continued to put everyone's lives in danger.
"Wait, I'm a ghost. What am I worried about?" Cole asked, after a wrecking ball went through him. Water started to leak out from one of the traps.
"That! That, I can worry about!" He jumped back.
I can make it." Kai said determined.
"Kai!" Zane shouted.
"No!" Cole yelled.
"Will everyone please stop moving!?" Jay screamed.
. . .
Neran was right. He made it in the third place. This crystal maze with the reflection of the furute. Neran looked at the walls but immediately looked away and shut his eyes. He pulled out the green cloth he used for his broken arm and blindfolded his eyes.
He wasn't looking for the future, let alone while in Morro's body. That thought made him shiver. But the thought of stopping, that was colder.
"Okay. Touch and sound. Won't be that hard. It's quiet here." Neran sighed. As he kept one hand on the wall, Neran walked forwards.

The Laptop Hero (Portal/Isekai LitRPG)
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - April 2022 Silas got summoned to another world—by a group of kids attending magic school who seemed rather unhappy with the results of their ritual. After a brief glimpse of his summoners Silas woke in the town dump. Unable to speak the local language, a misunderstanding escalated and before long Silas wound up in a jail cell, the locals having confiscated all his worldly possessions aside from his laptop, which had formed some strange bond with him. Now he can summon his laptop at will, and he can view his Status, level up, and gain powerful skills and magic as if he were some character in a video game, which is great and everything, but all Silas really wants to do is sit in a dark room and play games on his laptop. Only, life isn't a game, and Silas needs to get his act together because everyone else is playing for keeps. Or does he? Maybe for Silas life is just one big game now, with everyone else stuck playing by his rules. Assorted Disclaimers, in no particular order: I am only posting this on RoyalRoad.com, so if you find my story elsewhere it was not posted by me. Please do let me know! While I do consider this a progression fantasy, and have tagged it as such, Silas's Status improvements will not necessarily proceed in a linear fashion. His RPG stats will have ups and downs, exploits and nerfs, periods of growth and stagnation. Such is the life of a gamer, to be held under the thumb of the all powerful devs, or in this case a certain goddess devoted to the idea of Balance. SIlas himself should learn and grow, improving and progressing in areas where he struggles, or rather, to show such is my goal. The story is told from multiple points of view. While other PoVs will come and go, Silas shall remain the only lead character. The world Silas finds himself on is not a nice place. Expect him to encounter gore and traumatizing content and bad people who do bad things for selfish (or possibly noble) reasons from time to time. Some characters will use profanity, however due to cultural differences the curse words used will differ from those used in our corner of reality, so I'm not including the profanity content warning. Silas himself isn't one for foul language. No explicit sexual content here. This novel is intended for mature readers, however, and will include mature topics, including, but not limited to, sex, violence, death, and taxes. No harem. Might be an eventual romantic interest, possibly even some competitive jealousy, yet as his story begins Silas is too overwhelmed with other concerns to consider long term plans. Musophobics might want to steer clear of this story. Same goes for turophobics. You have been warned. Keep in mind, however, if my other disclaimers didn't make this clear, I only have the faintest of outlines at the moment. This story will take me where it will. My goal with this story is to write it to the end, something of a long-term writing exercise, with the hope others might take an interest in my work and encourage me to keep at it. I've started a number of works before, even finished a few, but this is the first time I've shared any work in a public forum. My temporary cover was made by me, in GIMP using public domain images. If you can do better I'll happily accept your submission and give credit for your work here!
