《My Brothers Best Friend》Chapter 47 // All Is Not As It Seems

Annabelle's POV:
His parents were next to him laughing in a group of around 4 other people. The Reins' barbecues were notorious though, so the popularity was really very expected. As if on cue I watched Matt turn around to see me and with a smirk wink at me and turn around. I rolled my eyes and turned around to find my brother who was next to Carter who was glaring in my direction. I moved out of his direct view to see if it was me that he was staring at but his eyes didn't follow me but much rather stayed on Matt. If this was Carter trying to be jealous then now was not the time and the place.
As the afternoon progressed on I had avoided Matt and Carter to the best of my ability but this had meant avoiding my brother too which meant that if I was not careful he could potentially notice that something was up. My phone began to vibrate in my pocket and the caller ID showed Tara's name who I was all too happy picking up the phone to. I walked around the front of the house to ensure my privacy as I answered the call. "How's plan Babe Attack going?" Tara asked making me laugh for the first time today. "It is in full effect and mission was hopefully successful" I replied with the straightest face possible, we laughed a little bit more and made more army references before Tara got to the real topic of the phone call. "I'm going to see Elijah this weekend" Tara said and I could hear her blushing through the phone, I was genuinely happy for my best friend as I told her "ooo keep me updated". She agreed and said facetiously, "what like the miss Annabelle Walters who has been lacking in department of updating her best friend lately?". She had caught me out there, "Tara I swear from now on that you'll k ow what I'm doing before I do" I said laughing and she replied with the Tara tone I know and love "good that's what I want to hear". Just as I was hanging up Dad walked out the front door with Mr Reins and watched me on the phone as the two continued to walk up towards the shops and I gave him a small smile to let him know I was okay.

After promising to text Tara later I started to walk back into the back garden when Matt came out the front door and approached me. "Bells can I talk to you?" he asked me quite reservedly which was unlike Matt. I nodded as I folded my arms feeling a slight breeze catch the exposed bottom half of them. "I think me and you should try again" he said. My brain took a couple of seconds to process his words before I said back "Matt I've told you before I can't and especially not right now". Matt's piercing blue eyes almost searching for an answer and when he didn't get one he asked for it,
"why can't you?". The question kind of caught me off guard until I replied back feeling a little agitated,
"you're my brothers friend I could never and im not in the best place to be having any kind of relationship right now". I felt super guilty lying directly to his face when I knew I had been with Carter but he didn't know that and he didn't need to. I was sure this conversation that was becoming all too repetitive was over until I heard him scoff.
I furrowed my eyebrows as I started to feel angry that Matt couldn't catch the hint as he said more sternly this time, "you were fine before what's changed since then?". I could tell by his tone he was becoming angrier but I was slowly becoming unbothered as I replied, "that was before I realised that me and you just wouldn't work". His eyes squinted at me as his eyes were becoming a darker hue of blue. "well im telling you I fucking disagree" he shouted at me. For a moment I was taken a back, "Matt who do you think you're talking to?" I asked raising my voice as much as he had. I could see him getting angrier but now I was pissed. "I'm talking to a little bitch that thinks she can get whatever she wants and will play any guy around", he was shouting directly at me now and I literally lost it.

"Matt me and you are never and will never be anything so get that in your fucking head" I feel myself shout back at the idiot in front of me. As if matters couldn't get any worse Carter steps out from the front door as he says, "guys what's going on? What's the shouting about?".
"Fucking perfect!" Matt calls out clapping his hands together as Carter and I both stand there with a look of confusion. "I told you to pick and you didn't choose her so fuck off" Matt shouts at Carter as I think two things. One that Matt has lost his sanity and two what the heck was he talking about? Carter looks at me and then to Matt as Matt turns around and says, "Oh that's right Bells you don't know". In that moment I was lost. What wasn't I getting? What wasn't I seeing? "Carter should I tell her or should you?" he said smirking at the boy who looked as if he'd shrunk in the last few seconds. Matt turns to me and whispers in a grim tone that sends shivers down my whole body, "Carter was good enough for you but I wasn't?". My breath became shaky and my heart beat was through the roof at this point,
"H-H-How?" I stuttered feeling so confused and lost.
"I fucking saw you" Matt says through gritted teeth.

Falling for a Star (Complete)
I had never paid much attention to celebrity gossip or what was going on in Hollywood because that was so far from the lifestyle I lived as a poor college student, working as a barista to save up for my own house after graduation. But then, without my knowledge, my Dad submitted my name into a talk show sweepstakes to win a week with Hollywood superstar Dylan Chase, to see what it's like to live like a celebrity for a week. My Dad thought it would be the perfect chance for me to get out of Iowa, see the world and have an adventure for once. I was dreading leaving home, flying for the first time and going by myself all the way to L.A. Plus the idea of spending a week with an arrogant, rich, snobby actor that was probably the worst kind of womanizer didn't sound like my idea of fun. What I found when I got there and met Dylan was the total opposite; a man that was humble, hard working, easy to talk to, and down to earth. Spending a week in Paradise in the guest house of Dylan Chase's Malibu mansion right on the beach, attending a movie premiere on his arm, shopping on Rodeo Drive and eating at five star restaurants was like a dream come true, but sleeping in his bed and falling for a guy from a completely different world than me was never part of the plan because we could never end up together.
