《My Brothers Best Friend》Chapter 9 // Old love

I stood in the kitchen alongside Danny. I felt agitated because Annabelle hadn't heard me out in the garden and had caused an unnecessary argument. I had shouted at her and I had watched as sadness filled her face but I had felt like she needed to be told. I knew what kind of person Rhydian was, even if she didn't. From across the room I could see my ex Elizabeth. Her dark chocolate skin shone in the light and in that moment I felt entranced by her. I watched her as she laughed and filled the room with a euphoric atmosphere. We had broken up over something silly and to this day I still couldn't remember what it was. For a moment, I felt myself want her and only her - then Annabelle walked in.
I watched her collide with a tall boy and get covered in some kind of sticky alcoholic drink. He walked past her and I watched bemused as agitation plagued her face. She came over to us and reached for some tissues and looked at Danny. "Have you seen Tara?" she spoke softly trying to get the drink out of her dress. Danny seemed more preoccupied with the girls around him and just shook his head. I hadn't seen Gwen all evening but I knew that he was probably already moving on. She looked at me and before either one of us spoke she rushed off looking more agitated then ever. Once she exited the room, I looked back over at Elizabeth who was now looking at me with a small smile and then she began walking over to me.
A grin grew on my face as she walked over and just before she got in front of me, my view was blocked by a rather drunk Rhydian. He was staggering around all over the place and had now clobbered all over Elizabeth. She shoved him off of her and I felt a large grin grow on my face. Serves you right I mumbled to myself. Elizabeth walked around the large obstruction and came and stood beside me, even though we had broken up we were still friends and it showed how mature we were - at least it did in my opinion. I felt her wrap her arm around mine as Rhydian collapsed towards me and Danny.

"Danny" he slurred, "Carter". Both of our eyes locked with his as he staggered around us a little bit more. He fell in between us and wrapped an arm around each of us. "Loving this party" he said swaying a little. Then Rhydian's arms fell from our shoulders and he turned directly in front of Danny. I watched as he brought his head on Danny's and whilst holding his face said, "thanks mate", and with nothing further he left. Danny and I looked at each other inquisitively, Danny turned and carried on with his gathering of girls as I turned to see Elizabeth had left. I ran my hands through my hair and went to find Elizabeth. As I stepped into the corridor I saw Rhydian trudging up the stairs slowly and I rolled my eyes.
I went into the living room and asked about for Elizabeth. Then from behind me I felt someone grab my hand and as I turned I saw it was Elizabeth. We looked at each other and the whole room seemed to go quiet as she began pulling me through the room towards the staircase. We avoided the kids that were slobbering all over each other on the stairs. We reached the landing at the top of the stairs and I heard a girl shout, "Help!". I didn't think Elizabeth had heard anything because she was still walking into the room. I stood still as I analysed the voice, I knew that voice and I thought harder. Elizabeth looked at me as I wasn't following her anymore. She placed her hands on my face and I brushed them away. She creased her eyebrows and rolled her eyes, "fine" she said and walked off. Then it clicked in my head who it was - it was Annabelle.

I turned to where the shout had come from and I flung the door open. I saw Rhydian holding down Annabelle and I just felt something in my head click. I ran at him and grabbed the back of his shirt, throwing him off her and onto the floor. As I looked towards the bed I saw Annabelle's dress was up to her waist and a look of pure horror was engraved all over her face. In the moment I heard Rhydian stir, and my temper snapped sending my fist round towards his face. He landed on the floor with a thud as I turned my attention to Annabelle. "Annabelle?" I called out to her but I received no response. I couldn't stand looking at her like that so I walked to the wardrobe, pulled out a big coat and wrapped it around her.

The Hazards of Skinny Dipping
This isn't a deep book about first loves or self-discovery. If you want a book like that, I'd be happy to recommend one, but I don't have that kind of story to tell. Instead my story is about rash decisions and finding out that your dream guy is bad in bed. It's the story of when I finally went skinny dipping, and how my life was never the same again. Oh, and it's also the story of my freshman year of college and realizing Mr. Right might have been there all along.
