I'm pissed, I'm scared, I'm hurt, and god damn it, I just want to see Olivia.
Why would she not want to see anyone but Oaken and Connor.
I should be at that hospital seeing her, but I am sitting in her living room with Ab, Sie, and the guys waiting for Jake to come in.
He finally came inside.
"Where's mom?" He shook his head.
We all pointed to the kitchen.
He sighed and walked to the kitchen.
"Mom."
She didn't say anything. "Mom. Stop. I got this ok? Go to bed."
"No."
"Woman, your daughter bled out this morning, you are not going to sit here, and clean it, while thinking of everything that could've happened. Go to bed. I've got them, I will get dad and Hank here from the airport."
She walked through the living room wiping her face, and just went upstairs.
And then we heard a knock.
"I've got it." Ryan nodded and walked down the hall.
"Who could be here right now." Jake shook his head.
Ryan came walking back in. "Jake it's for you." He nodded.
Holden, Marcus and Robbie came walking in.
"What're you guys doing here?" Jake sighed.
"Josh called. I was with them." Holden nodded. "What the hell happened?"
Jake sat down on the arm of the couch. "Alot." He nodded.
"How is she?" Marcus shook his head.
"She's awake." He nodded. "Uhm, surgery was laproscopic, so she's not that bad. She was on a tranfusion when we left. But, the only reason she can come home tomorrow is because of mom, dad's are on their way."
"Is there anything we can do?" Robbie asked.
"Uh, I really, need to stay here with them, and my dad and Hank got a flight at 7. They'll be at the air port at 11:30."
"We will get them." Robbie nodded. "Is there anything we can do for you?"
"No." He shook his head. "I got it."
"Jake." Marcus gave him a look.
He sighed. "I can't go back in the kitchen." He shook his head. "That's where it happened, and the floor is-"
"I will get that." Holden cut him off. "I, will do that ok?"
Robbie knelt down infront of him. "Is there anything we need to go take out of that apartment." He pursed his lips.
"No." Jake shook his head.
"Jake. The last time someone you cared about what in the hospital after almost dying, you went on a 3 day drinking binge. Is there anything we need to get out of that apartment."
Connor and Oaken both looked at Jake.
He sighed. "No. I called Kelsey. She asked if she could come, and I told her no because she needed to spend time with her family. I asked her to go get it out. She did."
"Alright." Robbie nodded.
"Uh, Mase." He looked at me. "Your mom is working a double shift to be with Olivia tonight. Can you go over, pack her a bag for in the morning, find her something to eat. I'll get a bag around for Ol and bring it over to you to take." He nodded.
"Yeah." I nodded.
"Could you guys stay with them for a few minutes." Jake looked at Holden, Marcus, and Robbie.
"We got it." Marcus nodded.
He looked at Oaken and Connor. "I will talk to you two in the back yard when I come back over about the drinking thing, ok?"

They both nodded.
"Go Mase." He pursed his lips. "Do not go through that kitchen."
"I wasn't planning on it." I shook my head and walked over to my house.
I got my mom a bag around, found something for her to make at the hospital, and took everything to my living room, when I heard the door open and close. Jake came walking in with a bag.
"Thank you." I held my hand out.
"Sit down." He nodded and dropped the bag on the floor.
"Am I not going to the hospital?" I gave him a look.
"You are." He nodded. "But I need to talk to you first. Please, sit."
I sat down on the couch, and he sat on the coffee table infront of me. "Olivia, did not have a cyst rupture." He shook his head.
"So, you guys lied to us." I shook my head.
"She asked us not to tell you guys or the dads." He nodded.
"So what actually happened?" I gave him a look.
He sighed. "Olivia, had something called an Ectopic Pregnancy." He put his elbows on his knees.
At that point, my heart fell completely out of my body. I knew my face was completely changed.
"Ectopic." I shook my head.
"It is what it's called, when a pregnancy happens outside of the uterus." He nodded. "She was a little over 5 weeks along."
I took a deep breath. "Was?"
"Ectopic pregnancys never make it to full term. If they do, it's a miracle. But, around 6-16 weeks, the pregnancy ruptures. That's what happened this morning. Her fallopian tube burst, and they couldn't save the tube. With all the stress she's been under, the rupture happened sooner." He nodded.
I pursed my lips and shook my head. "She asked you not to tell us, so, why are you telling me?"
He took a deep breath and just looked at me. "Because I felt that you had a right to know." He nodded. "You gonna tell me I'm wrong?"
I sighed. "Oaken."
"No, your face at the hospital when I said she didn't want to see anyone. How long have you been sleeping with my sister Mason." He raised his eyebrows.
"The weekend before we went to the Valley." I shook my head. "But it's not like that."
"Then what the hell is going on Mason. Now." He nodded.
"Olivia and I have been." I paused. "Dating, I guess, for the past almost month and a half. I told her I was in to her at the valley, and she is giving me 3 months to prove I'm serious about this. 2 conditions, no one knows, no sleeping with anyone else."
He closed his eyes and shook his head. "Who all knows other than Oaken?"
"The dads, Amber, and now you." I nodded. "We don't want to tell anyone until we know what's going to happen at the end of the 3 months, and if Connor is the last to know, he will flip his lid worse than he already will."
He sighed. "So I was right when I told you about this."
And then I felt my eyes watering. I shook my head "She didn't tell me she was-"
He cut me off. "She didn't know." He shook his head. "She had the same reaction you did."
"And she wasn't going to tell me." I nodded.
"She said there was nothing to tell Mason. But I'm thinkin she thinks it would scare you away." He shrugged.

"If she thinks that, then we have a bigger problem now Jake. I would never walk away from her because of this, even if this was a normal pregnancy." I shook my head.
"Now, this doesn't sound like the Mason I had to talk to the Colleen Copeland pregnancy scare of sophomore year who said he would've paid for an abortion." He pursed his lips.
"She wasn't Olivia. She wasn't my bestfriend, or the girl I-" I stopped myself.
"If you say it, you better fucking mean it." He raised his eyebrows.
I sighed. "I can't tell her." I shook my head.
"Do you mean it?" He crossed his arms.
I nodded. "But the minute I do tell her, it becomes real."
"Mason, it already is real." He nodded. "If you are sitting here, feeling this way, about someone you've known almost your whole life, scared, it's real."
I closed my eyes.
"You are allowed to feel however you feel about this. That drinking binge I went on, Kelsey had a miscarriage and bled out in her bathtub last year. We didn't know she was pregnant, but it still hurt, and I was drunk for 3 days. This is allowed to hurt, and you are allowed to be heartbroken about something you didn't know. But do not handle it in a dumb way. You talk about it. To me, to Liv. But you talk."
I nodded.
"Now, I will take the fall for this with your mom. But you go to the hospital, and tell her I sent you. And you go talk to Olivia." He nodded.
"And what am I supposed to tell my mom about why I need to see Olivia Jake." I shook my head.
"The truth." He nodded. "Your mom, she was the person I told. She's the one who pulled me out of my bullshit. You tell her the truth."
"'Hey mom, my bestfriends sister almost died this morning because I got her pregnant, here's some stuff for you.'" I nodded.
"Start off with 'Jake told me what happened.'" He shook his head.
I sighed.
"Go." He nodded.
I nodded, went out to my truck. And my entire life flashed before my eyes on the way to the hospital.
I walked in and met my mom at the nurses station.
"Hi baby." She stood up and hugged me. "Thank you." She smiled.
"Yeah." I nodded.
She sighed. "She's ok." She nodded.
I looked around to see if anyone was around. "I need to see her." I shook my head.
"Mason, visiting hours are over, and she's made it clear she doesn't want to-"
I cut her off. "Jake told me." I nodded. "What really happened."
She rolled her eyes. "He was told not to tell anyone." She shook her head. "Why would he tell you."
"He felt I had a right to know." I pursed my lips.
"Now why would you have the right to know Olivia wa-"
And she automatically stopped when I scrunched my face and looked down at the floor.
She sighed. "Unless you were the one who got her pregnant."
"I'm sorry." I shook my head.
"Mason Dean what the hell is wrong with you!" She smacked the back of my head.
"We were always safe mom. She's on birth control. I don't know how-"
"Always! This has been happening?" She yelled.
I took a deep breath. "Olivia and I have been seeing eachother since the weekend at the Cabin. We had sex the weekend before, it wasn't planned, it just, happened mom." I shook my head. "And I finally told her how I felt when we were at the valley, and she's giving me 3 months to show her that I'm not full of shit. I havent slept with anyone since her, and we're not telling anyone until we figure things out and figure out how to tell Connor. The only ones who know are Oaken, Amber, and now you and Jake. Mom I'm sorry."
"Mason, you have been having sex with your bestfriends little sister for the past month and a half!" She shook her head. "My bestfriends daughter!"
"It's not like that!" I yelled.
"Then what the hell is it!" She yelled.
"I'm in love with her mom." I pursed my lips and took a deep breath.
She sighed. "Did you really just say that." She pursed her lips.
I nodded.
She closed her eyes. "You were never here." She shook her head. "If any one asks, you were not here."
"Really?"
She nodded. "Come on." She grabbed my hand.
"Wait." I stopped her.
"What baby." She shook her head.
"I'm sorry, but I have to ask." I shook my head. "We had sex last weekend, it was, rougher. That couldn't have-"
She cut me off. "No." She shook her head. "No baby, it couldn't. It started off this way." She nodded.
I sighed. "What do I say to her." I shook my head.
"Exactly what you told me." She gave me a small smile.
"I can't." I shook my head.
She sighed. "Then try, 'this doesn't change how I feel about you.'"
I nodded.
"Hotel bill and the extra changes on the credit cards last week?" She gave me a look.
I nodded.
She shook her head. "You are lucky, that I love her." She grabbed my hand and walked me down the hall.
"Mom, you can't say anything. Not yet." I shook my head. "No one. When I say no one knows, no one knows. "
She nodded. "Ok."
It was about 10:30, when I heard the door open.
"Olivia honey?" Trish peeked her head in.
"Ugh, do I need another one?" I asked pushing the button on my bed remote to turn on the room lights.
"No." She shook her head. "Someone is here to see you."
"Visiting hours are over." I gave her a look.
"Which is why if anyone asks, he was never here." She nodded. She looked back in to the hallway. "Come on." She motioned in to my room.
And then Mason peeked his head in and stepped through the door.
"What're you doing here." I shook my head.
He gave me a straight smile, held up one of my bags, and dropped it on the chair as he walked over to me. Then he leaned down, and kissed me. Right infront of his fucking mom. "Jake told me" He nodded.
"About my cyst?" I gave him a look.
"I, am going to leave you two to, do whatever young couples do." Trish nodded.
My head just shot up at him.
He pursed his lips. "I needed to see you." He shrugged. "So she knows. Everything."
And thats when it clicked that Trish now knew, and Mason meant that Jake told him the truth.
"I will let you know when Holly, Jason, and dad are on the way." She looked at him and opened the door.
"Mom." He looked at her before she walked out.
She turned around and raised her eyebrows. "I'm sorry." He shook his head.
She sighed. "It's ok." She nodded. "I'm down the hall." She looked at me. "And I'm right next door." She gave me a small smile and closed the door.
He turned back toward me, grabbed my hand, and pursed his lips. "I'm sorry." He shook his head.
"I thought no one was knowing." I shook my head.
"At this point, I would do anything to make sure you're ok. Even if it means getting my ass chewed apart by my mom." He nodded.
"What did Jake tell you." I pursed my lips.
He pulled a chair over and sat down next to me. He never let go of my hand. "Everything. The pregancy, the tube, how far, all of it."
"Jesus christ." I shook my head.
"We have a problem now Olivia." He nodded.
"Not anymore. Remember."
I looked down.
"Olivia, you being pregnant, isn't the problem." He shook his head. "Did you really not know."
I shook my head. "No. I didn't know."
He nodded. "We have a bigger problem than that."
"What could be a bigger problem." I sniffled.
"That you weren't going to tell me. At all." He pursed his lips. "You may think that there is nothing to tell. But there is. I had a right to know about this." He shook his head. "Why, would you not want to tell me that you were pregnant, and don't say it wasn't mine, because you were only a little over 5 weeks."
"Because Mason. I remember, the Colleen Copeland scare." I shook my head.
His face dropped. "How did you know about that."
"You talked to Jake about it, in my house. I heard everything you said about it Mason."
He sighed. "She, is not you." He shook his head. "I havent known her my entire life Olivia. I wasn't trying like I am with you. And it really hurts me, that you think I would walk away from you because of this. I couldn't breathe this morning when you dropped to the floor. I sat here, scared shitless, staring at your brother covered in your blood, listening to Oaken cry, and Connor freak out, until 8:30. I just sat and was told by your brother, that I got you pregnant, your fallopian tube burst, got grilled for getting you pregnant, and I told my mom. I have scaled your house, have taken you on date, had spend the night at my house, I've told you things I haven't told anyone else, and I do, none of those things, ever. I need you to stop thinking that I see you like I do every other girl. You are not every other girl! I am not going anywhere. And I wouldn't have if this thing that you say is nothing, was a something."
And at this point, I was crying. He reached over, and wiped my face. "I want you Liv. This doesn't change how I feel about you. You're mine. So lean on me." He nodded. "Don't make me leave. Let me be here for you. Especially with this."
Now it finally happened. I've been holding my shit together since I woke up, and now, I just completely broke down. I burried my in my hands and just shook my head. "I'm sorry." I choked out.
"No baby." He shook his head. He crawled in to my hospital bed and wrapped his arms around me. "I don't want you to be sorry. I want you to let go of who you think I am. I want you to knock the wall down and just let me in. Please. Let go." He squeezed me.
"If I would've known I would taken better care of myself." I burried my face in to his chest.
"Ol, there was nothing you could've done. It started out this way. Nothing you did caused this, ok?" He kissed the top of my head.
Honestly, I just laid there and cried for literally three hours.
Until Trish came knocking. "Everything ok?" She peeked her head in and pursed her lips.
We both nodded.
"I'm sorry, but your bandages need changed sweetie." She gave me a small smile.
I sighed. "Ok."
Mason got off the bed, and just held my hand as she pulled the tape off my side and belly button.
"How'd the do it." He shook his head.
"Which part." She pursed her lips.
"All of it." I nodded.
She cleared her throat and nodded. "We got you down to the O.R because we didn't want to waste time. They put you under before the ultrasound came so they could see where the bleeding was coming from. Which is how they knew before they opened you up. They made the two small insicions. First in the belly button to pump in air to extend your stomach. The next right here." She wiped the staples down with a numbing cream. "They used something like a small vaccum to evacuate the fetus and the contents of the tube. And then they tried to repair it. Nothing would work. They went in with a small pair of clamps and a small scalpal, removed the tube remains, and cautarised the cuts. They closed you with surgical glue, 2 staples each incision."
I took a deep breath. "Will I still be able to-"
"We." Mason cut me off. "Will we still be able to have another in the future?" He pursed his lips.
His mom looked at me, and then to him. "Yes." She nodded. "Just as much of a chance as you do with both tubes, you can still get pregnant with one. Just, please do not make me a grandmother, for at least a few more years. Preferable after college."
"Accidents?" I scrunched my face.
"Accidents happen, but please, don't try." She shook her head.
"I can promise you that mom." Mason nodded. "But if something does happen, I need you to accept it. Like you are right now."
She sighed. "You really are serious about this." She nodded.
"I am." Mason pursed his lips.
"Can I just say something." She pursed her lips.
We both nodded.
"It's about damn time." She nodded and gave us a small smile.
"Stop it." Mason let out a small laugh.
She walked around my bed and kissed his cheek. "I love you. And i'm not going to say anything." She nodded. "And you." She looked at me. "You fertile little shit." She leaned down and kissed my cheek. "Don't ever scare me like that again." She shook her head.
I pursed my lips and nodded.
"Goodnight." She gave us a small smile. "Like I said, I'll let you know." She walked out and closed the door.
He got back in the bed with me and put his arm over my shoulder. "How are you feeling?"
"Just, praying for the numbing cream to kick in." I nodded and rolled to my side that didn't hae staples.
"I mean all of it." He nodded.
"I feel like it would be different if I would've known." I nodded. "I'm sad, but, I guess, I'm a little dissapointed."
"Me too." He nodded.
I sighed. "Did you mean it?" I pursed my lips.
"Mean what?" He looked down at me.
"'We.'"

By cold steel and elemental sorcery, they brought peace to a warring land on the brink of destruction. Matt, Blake, Jen, and Carl: the four mysterious companions, who together had deposed an insane ruler and saved countless lives, were gone—spirited back in a whirlwind of magic to a sleepy suburb in Mellbridge, Oregon, never to return. The friends found themselves home in the real world, exactly as they'd been the night they were taken, as if no time had passed... except only three came back. Hi there! This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...) I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it! [Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat. Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time.
