I can not tell you how badly my neck hurt from sleeping on my window.
Honestly, my whole body kind of hurt. To the point where I didn't even try today.
I rolled out of bed, put on a pair of flared high waisted tye-dye leggings, a plan black t-shirt ucked in, threw my hair in a bun, put on light make up, and put on my glasses.
This was the best it was getting.
I grabbed my bag and walked down to the kitchen to see Oaken, Connor, Mason, and Jake. But Jake, was pushing on Mason's neck.
"What the hell are you doing?" I shook my head and walked to the fridge.
"He slept wrong, so I'm un-kinking his neck." Jake shook his head.
"What the hell are you wearing?" Mason gave me a look.
"Clothes?" I returned the look.
"You not feeling good, or?" Connor raised his eyebrows.
"Well jesus. I just wanted to be comfortable." I shrugged. "Oaken, you riding?"
"I sure am." He smiled.
"Then hop to it, gotta get Abby and Josh doesn't want to ride with Ryan." I motioned toward the door.
He hopped up, and I got a text as soon as we got to my car.
M; Pants make your ass look fat.
I shook my head.
O; Better get used to it. Fall = Leggins and Baggy Flannels/Sweaters.
"Should I guess, or?" Oaken laughed as he got in the passengers seat.
"Oak, you really can't say anything. Ok? Not until after the 3 months." I shook my head.
"Hey, I keptt you and Cam a secret from them, I can keep a secret Ol. Especially if you're happy." He smiled.
"You know you're my favorite right?" I looked over at him as we pulled out of the driveway.
He nodded.
"Is this a mistake?" I pursed my lips.
"What, giving Mason a shot?"
I nodded.
"I don't think so." He shook his head. "Ol, Mason has been in to you for like 4 years now, he just wouldn't admit it to himself. And you've been in to him, but wouldn't admit it to yourself. But, you're important to him. I have a feeling he's going to surprise you."
I sighed. "Thank you."
"For?"
"I know you had alot to do with him talking to me Saturday night. So. Thank you, for the push." I smiled.
We went and picked up Josh and Abby, went to Tim Hortons, and went to school.
We all parted and went to our lockers, when someone walked up to mine.
"Olivia." I heard someone walking over to me.
"Hey WIll." I smiled.
"Question." He put his hands in his pockets.
"Answer." I nodded.
"It's been a few days, so I was wondering if you wanted to meet up and go over the duet tonight. So I don't look like an out of practice idiot tomorrow in class." He laughed.
"I don't think you could look out of practice if you tried to." I laughed and shook my head.
"Grayson." I heard an all too familiar voice walking over to us.
He rolled his eyes. "Yes Connor?"
"Can I help you with something?" Connor crossed his arms.
"Yeah." Will nodded. "You can walk away so I can talk to my dance parter about running through our dance tonight."
"Or I can stand here." Connor nodded.
"Alright Pate. I'm gonna give you a chance to walk away. But I'm gonna ask you first, are you sure I'm the person you want to step to? Of all people, me? A guy who throws people around a matt and is very handy with a hockey stick." Will crossed his arms.

"Well-"
He cut Connor off. "I'm not Saunders." He shook his head. "You don't scare me in the slightest, and I can talk to your sister if I want to. And none of your friends are about to step to me either. So do yourself a favor, and walk away so I can finish my conversation."
Connor pursed his lips and looked at me. "So you're good?"
"I'm fine." I nodded.
"Alright then." He nodded and walked away.
"So that's true huh? The whole never letting guys talk to you thing." Will laughed.
"Unfortunately. But, aren't you friends with Cameron?" I gave him a look.
"Oh hell no, I'm not friends with that tool bag. We just so happen to share the same bestfriend, who we are civil because of. Grant is my bestfriend, but Saunders and I. We're not." He shook his head. "And he's an idiot for letting you go because he couldn't handle a few hits and some pranks."
"For the best, I promise you that." I shook my head.
"Good. Know your worth. So, running through the duet?"
"Sure." I nodded.
"Awesome, meet at the studio after school?" He pursed his lips.
"Ooo, with the other classes studio might not be a good idea. " I shook my head.
"Oh right! I forgot there's still classes on our days off." He nodded.
"I do it too." I nodded. "How about we meet at my house, 4:30?"
"Your house?" HE gave me a look.
"I have a small studio in my basement. My dad and Mason's dad built it for me a few years ago." I smiled.
"Nice." He smiled. "Alright, your house."
I pulled out my phone. And sent him my address. "Just come on over."
"Well hello Will." Abby yelled walking over with Josh.
"Hi Abby." He smiled and shook his head. "Hey Josh." He put his hand out.
"Will." Josh shook it.
"Hope you two don't mind me stealing her from you for the night." Will put his hands in his pockets.
"Oh are you now." Josh nodded.
"I am. We're going to run through our duet a bit, and I'm going to talk her in to showing me her choreo piece, but she doesn't know that yet." He shrugged.
"Oh you are now." I laughed.
"I am." He smiled. "But, I've got to get to class. I'll see you later Olivia." He gave me a nod and walked away.
"Bye." I waved.
"Must really like that dance." Abby laughed.
"Oh shut up. We haven't had dance since Thursday." I rolled my eyes.
"Hey, Will, he's hott, and I don't think the boys will step to him. I wouldn't." Josh shook his head.
"Well, Connor just tried." I closed my locker.
"No he didn't!" Abby yelled.
"You can see how well that worked." I laughed.
"Yeah, Will, definitely should be an option." Josh nodded as we started walking to class.
"I don't want options guys." I shook my head. "I am perfectly content with where I'm at."
"And I'm a nun." Abby gave me a look. "Look, just because Satan's spawn doesn't know you have sex, doesn't mean that you don't like sex. You like sex Liv, eventually, you're going to want to have sex." She nodded.
At this point, I so badly wanted to tell them about Mason. But, not a good idea. And with how they've been I'd get a big fat 'I told you so.'

"Something tells me if she wants sex that bad, she could go to Cam still." Josh shrugged.
He and I walked Abby to her class, he walked me to trig.
And I swear to god, the 42 minutes of trig had my mind completely racing. Like, who the hell even needs trig to get through life.
I walked in to english, with possibly the biggest migraine in my life, and sat down next to Sienna.
"Please, for the love of god, have ibuprofen or tylenol." I pouted.
"What's the matter?" She laughed and opened her purse.
"I feel like my brain is melting." I rubbed my temple as she handed me the bottle. "Remind me who is going to need trig?"
"Boo you're decent in trig." She shook her head.
"I know, but god is it irritating." I took two and took a drink.
"Speaking of irriating." She pointed behind me.
I turned to see, take a guess.
"Can I sit here?" Cam pursed his lips.
"Again, no, you can't." Mason nudged him out of the way and sat down. "How much longer are we going to go through his until you get the point?" He shook his head.
"And when are you going to start minding your own business Hollow?" Cam crossed his arms.
"When will the two of you stop disrupting my class." Miss Jordan walked in to the room. "Sit down Mr. Saunders."
Cam rolled his eyes and sat down in the row infront of us.
She got to the front of the room and stood at her podium.
"We are going to start a partner assignment that will be a presentation due Thursday. You'll have today and tomorrow to work on it. You will be bringing in a poem, and you and your partner will be come up with an evaluation on it. Tell me how it made you feel, think, what you got from it. Any poem, any author." She nodded.
Then Katie raised her hand.
"Yes Katie?"
"Are we chosing our partners?"
"No, you are not. I already chose them, and no, you can not change or trade." She smiled.
"My gut has a really bad feeling." Sienna whispered.
"Mine too." Mason pursed his lips.
"I swear to god, do not jinx me." I shook my head.
"Here are the partners. Sienna Barber and Katie Matthews." She belted off a few more partners. "Mason Hollow and Carter Pruitt."
"God I lucked up." Mason nodded.
She listed off a few more.
And then my worst nightmare became reality. And I had a feeling it was going to happen.
"Olivia Pate and Cameron Saunders."
"Oh my god." I closed my eyes.
"You did not luck up." Sienna pursed her lips.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me." Mason shook his head.
"You all can start working." Miss Jordan smiled and sat down.
Carter came walking over. "Ok Mason, I will do this. I will write it, you just read. I don't want you screwing it up." He nodded.
"You got it Carter." Mason pointed at him as he walked away.
"Hi Mason." Katie smiled as she walked over to our desks.
"Hi, I'm your partner. Not him." Sienna pointed at herself.
"And what a shame." Katie shook her head. "You busy after school?" She smiled back to Mason.
"Katie, just, walk away." Mason nodded.
"Really?" She scrunched her face.
"Yes, Katie." I nodded. "He said walk away, so walk away."
She rolled her eyes and sat on the other side of Sienna.
"You know how to pick them, huh?" I looked over at him.
"What can I say." He shrugged and leaned back. "It's a magical appendage that can make anyone fall in love." He smiled. "So how much did you pay her for that Saunders?" He crossed his arms.
Cam turned around and rolled his eyes. "What are you talking about?"
"I mean, you've been begging Ollie to talk to you for weeks now, she's been turning you down, and it just so happens you're partners? How much did you pay Johnson." He smirked.
"Believe it or not, I had nothing to do with that." Cam shook his head. "I don't need to pay anyone for a girl to talk to me."
"Neither do I." Mason pointed down to Katie.
"Ok, there is nothing I can do about this. But I am not doing this here. So you, need to stop." I pointed at Mason. "And the only thing we will be talking about." I pointed at Cam. "Is poetry."
"I'd prefer not to work with his comments the entire time Olivia. So can we work on this after school?" Cam pursed his lips.
"I guess so." I rolled my eyes. "My house right after school."
"Ol." Mason looked over at me.
"I'm not failing." I shook my head. "You can turn around and start looking for poems. We'll talk about options later."
Cameron sighed and turned around.
And then my phone went off.
"Oh jesus christ." I sighed.
CA; I promise, we will work on the assignment, but at some point can we please talk about you and me? Olivia I miss you. I made a mistake. And since you wont return my calls, I have to text you.
I just closed my eyes and locked my phone.
I leaned forward, put my elbows on my desk, and burried my face in my hands.
"Pills didn't work?" Sienna pursed her lips.
"I'm dropping out of school." I shook my head.
"Who was it?" Mason laughed.
"Don't ask."
And then he took my phone. Giving Mason my passcode and not changing it. Mistake.
He looked over at me. "Really?" He shook his head. "It was funny before, but now it's not."
"Trust me, I know." I pursed my lips.
He nodded and grabbed something out of his pocket, and threw it at Cameron.
"Ow." He grabbed the back of his head and turned around. "Really Hollow?"
"One." Mason leaned forward. "No, you cant talk about you two, because there is no you two." And Two. Take it, and buy yourself a fucking clue."
He just glared at turned back around.
Sienna choked back a laugh. "Mason is pissed."
"He is so hott." Katie smiled.
We all just turned and looked at her.
"You need to buy yourself one too baby girl." Sienna nodded.

To The Far Shore
Post apocalyptic Oregon Trail. The apocalypse has come and gone. And come back again, and left again... nobody really knows how often. Nothing lasts forever, but nothing is ever completely gone. Which is a shame for young Mazelton, as his family has been around a terribly long time, and made an astonishing amount of enemies. Millenia's worth. So he has to run- from mobs, cannibals, soldiers, sailors, cholera, cattle, thieving sales-monks, starvation, mechanical horrors, vengeful spirits, negotiating your own marriage, and poison of every sort. Fortunately, his not terribly nice family has trained him well in the arts of core polishing. Or as you and I might know it- turning radioactive pellets into useful tools. And weapons. Updates Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Usual defensive tags applied. The goal isn't exactly family friendly, but you have probably seen worse on network TV. After the watershed. Not full blown HBO, let's say. This is the first novel I am sharing publicly, so feedback is very much appreciated and encouraged. Act 1 of the novel is completed, but do please let me know what works, what doesn't, and what you would like to see more of. Thank you, and Enjoy!

Rimward Bound
Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. His first act is to issue notice that no ship is to be without crew nor sit in dock or reserve for longer then required for maintenance and upkeep. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course. Where else is a kid from the gutters going to find that kind of freedom in the service of His Majesty? A [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] 2021.
