(This chapter is completely in Paintbrush's POV, so yeah, uhh.
Yeah thats it, anyways you can read it now if you like)
Paintbrush's POV:
I slowly made my way to the office. I had been called up, and I was trying to stop myself from shaking so much.
Why am I so scared? I can do this. Just act casual.
I slowly entered the office and the so-called principal was there waiting for me.
I hated seeing him face to face again.
"Hello Paintbrush." He spoke. His voice made me cringe. I didnt say anything.
"I called you to my office to ask you if you've seen anything... odd..." he continued. I tried not to react but inside, my heart dropped and I hoped my face wasnt turning pale.
"N-no... why do you ask?" I respond in a sort of mumble.
Cobs leaned forward in his chair and rested his arm on his desk.
"You know exactly why im asking Paintbrush." Cobs spoke in a sort of angered tone.
He can't possible know... can he???
"I-I have no clue what you're talking about." I stuttered.
Stop stuttering Paintbrush, your giving yourself away. Keep your composure.
Cobs raised an eyebrow. He could see right through me. I could tell.
Im so screwed.
Cobs sat up more in his chair and reached down to pick something up. When he sat back up, he held up a small bag that had some of my hair in it.
"We found this right after you ran into me in the hallway. You seemed like your were in a rush and now I know why." Cobs smirked.
Crap my hair must've snagged on something and pulled out when I came out from hiding.
"Crap..." I mumbled, unintentionally saying it out loud. I immediately covered my mouth.
"I figured you knew something. I knew I would catch you eventually." Cobs then took out a small radio.
"MePhone5s and 5c, please come to my office to escort our little friend here." Cobs had a large grin on his face.
I quickly got out of my seat and tried to run out of his office, but was blocked by the MePhones that had already gotten there.
I quickly ducked under their legs and kicked the door open before sprinting out.
Dont look back... Dont look back... Just keep running.
I stumbled into the lunchroom and slid under one of the tables, pulling the chairs in to hide me better.
The MePhone's rushed in to search around.
"You go search over there, I'll search in here." I heard MePhone5s say. I heard MePhone5c's footsteps leave the room.
My breathing was heavy and my chest felt like it was going to explode.
I heard MePhone5s' footsteps approaching slowly. I held my breath.
Suddenly the chairs were whipped out from under the table and my arm was grabbed. I was yanked out from under the table and I screamed.

But it wasn't MePhone5s... It was Microphone. She pulled me up and sprinted out of the room holding onto my wrist, MePhone5s chasing behind us.
"Mic?! What are you doing?!" I exclaimed in between breaths. It was hard to speak while running.
"Less talking more running!" Mic yelled. She ran towards the exit of the school and tried to open the doors.
"They're locked!" Mic exclaimed. She tried slamming all of her weight into the door, but it didnt budge.
"MePhone5c must've locked them when she seperated from MePhone5s!" I shouted, trying to help her open the doors.
"Cmon this way!" I grabbed Microphone's arm and sprinted down the hallway.
Eventually after what seemed like forever of running through the halls, everything was silent. Too silent.
I peeked around every corner, checking if anyone was hiding, waiting to attack us.
I motioned for Mic to follow again, and stepped out into the open. Suddenly I heard a yelp, and when i turned around, MePhone5c was there.
She was holding Mic and covering her mouth. I tried to rush over to her but then I was grabbed from behind as well.
I tried to scream but my mouth was covered. I struggled to free myself.
Mic and I were taken to the gym and tied down to chairs, then set in front of the cameras.
Cmon Paintbrush think!
When MePhone5c came over to check the restraints, I kicked her as hard as I could, sending me toppling backwards, and leaving a large crack in the screen.
When I fell backwards, it knocked MePhone5c over, who fell into the cameras, knocking them over as well.
I heard a loud crash, and then saw a bright light.
The button had been clicked.
I waited for my eyes to adjust. I was positive I had been teleported. But when I opened my eyes, I was still in the gym.
But Microphone was gone.
No...
Not another person...
I noticed that MePhone5c was gone as well. MePhone5s was still there, but he was unconcious with the cameras fallen on top of him.
I was still tied to the chair as well. I shuffled, trying to loosen the restraints.
After a while of struggling, I was finally able to slip out of the restraints and get to my feet.
I glanced at the cameras. They were broken.
At least nobody else can get taken.
I rushed out of the gym and searched for a way I could get out of the school, but had no luck.
How do I get out of here?
After what seemed like hours of trying to open the doors, I had given up hope.
Yknow what. Im tired of this.
I came up with a new plan. It was extremely risky, but it might get me out of here, and possibly get my friends back.
I ran to the gym. MePhone5s was still unconcious under the toppled cameras.
I walked over to where the red button was, and pressed it to see if it still worked.

It does.
I set up the cameras, moving MePhone5s out of the way.
I then walked up to the red button again.
Here goes nothing.
I took a deep breath, pressed the button, and then rushed in front of the camera.
I sheilded my eyes as that same bright flash happened. When I opened them, everything seemed white, until I realized my eyes were just adjusting.
I glanced around. I was in a weird glass box. One wall of the box was opened. I looked to my right and saw Mic, and Soap. To my left there was a row of empty boxes.
I stood up quick and ran out of the box. Mic jumped and looked up surprised. "PAINTBRUSH?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" Mic exclaimed with a shocked look on her face.
"Painty...?" I heard a voice say. I looked over.
Lightbulb.
"J-just a sec Mic-" I stuttered as I rushed over to Lightbulb. Lightbulb looked like she was about to cry. "Painty is that really you???" She stood up and pressed her hands against the closed box.
I nodded smiling and Lightbulb began to cry.
"Painty I missed you so muchhhhhh." Lightbulb said pressing her entire body against the glass like a hug.
I laughed a little, then began examining the box. "Ok how do you open this thing?" I asked, looking for an opening or a button.
"Co- you-know-who has a button to open them." Lightbulb responded with a sniffle.
I sighed. I noticed Balloon asleep in the box next to Lightbulb. He didnt look too good. I noticed there was something shriveled in the box with him but I couldn't tell exactly what it was at first until I realized.
I shuddered. It was his severed arm.
What did Cobs do to all these people?
The more I looked around, the more people I noticed. YinYang, Oj, Apple, Pickle, and Knife were all there. Everyone who had gone missing in the first place.
They all looked in horrible shape. YinYang had scars all over, Apple just looked traumatized, Pickle had stitches on his head, it was all hard to look at.
One thing I noticed was that Fan wasn't there.
"Where's Fan?" I asked with a concerned look on my face. Lightbulb frowned. "I dont know, he's been gone for a couple hours now..." Lightbulb mumbled.
Suddenly I heard the doors behind me begin to open. I scrambled to the nearest hiding place, which was under a counter, and ducked as far back as I could.
Fan entered the room, Cobs following behind him. Fan was shaking and covering his ears.
What happened to him?
Fan was shoved into the empty box in between Balloon and Soap, and the door was shut.
I watched Lightbulb tap on the wall closest to Balloon to wake him up. Balloon drowsily sat up and rubbed his eyes.
His missing arm looks worse in person.
Cobs went to the front center of the room, right in front of the doors.
"I've decided some of your procedures will differentiate from the others so I can test out different things." Cobs said.
I began to crawl out from under the counter to attack him, but when Lightbulb glanced at me, I couls tell by the look in her eyes that she didnt want me to do it.
I was confused, but scooted back anyway. I trusted her.
I sat silently and watched as Cobs spoke, and eventually he left. I crawled out of my hiding spot and walked back over to Lightbulb's box.
"Why didn't you want me to attack him? That could've been our chance to escape!" I exclaimed quietly.
"He has backup, the MePhones. I didnt want to risk you getting caught." Lightbulb mumbled.
I sighed and glanced around the room for something that might be able to open the boxes.
I walked over to the counter that was by the door and looked around at the different things on it, hoping to find anything that could open the boxes and free everyone.
There were viles and tubes, all kinds of different equipment, but I saw nothing that could pry open the doors or anything. I huffed dissapointed.
I walked back over to Lightbulb's box and sat down with my back against it. "I'm sorry Lightbulb." I mumbled.
Lightbulb seemed confused. "Sorry about what?" She asked.
"About leaving you in the gym alone like that... and about failing to protect everyone from getting taken... failing to protect you..." I stared at the floor.
"I could've done something from the beginning. Im sure of it. I could've reported it to the police, but I doubted they would believe me, so I didn't even bother to make the attempt." I sighed.
Lightbulb pressed her hand against the inside of the box. "Don't blame yourself Painty. You didn't know any of this would happen." She said with a small sympathetic smile.
I smiled back a little.
I then stood up and faced Lightbulb. "I'm gonna go try and find a way out of here." I said taking a couple steps back towards the doors.
Lightbulb nodded.
Then I heard the doors open.
I watched as a horrified look came across Lightbulb's face, and I didnt have time to react.
An arm wrapped around my neck, putting me in a choke hold. I gasped and then lost my breath. I knew exactly who had grabbed me.
It was Cobs.
I clawed at his arms trying to loosen his grip around my neck but it had no effect on him.
I felt him put his hand on the side of my head.
I began to panic.
Then in less than a second, with one sudden swift movement...

The Mortal Acts
The Mortal Acts is an epic progression fantasy with a lower focus on training aspects and a great focus on discovering new ways of using powers intelligently. I've always been drawn to stories where characters use their powers creatively to overcome opponents and obstacles, and I think all the possibilities can provide a great playground for twists and turns. It's inspired by a variety of media, including Will Wight's Cradle, Hunter x Hunter, and Bioshock, so if you like the creative power use elements from those, come check it out. This is my first serial, and please feel free to leave comments and feedback. For backstory, behind-the-scenes, and other fun stuff, come chat on my discord! Become a patron to read up to 20 chapters ahead here! Blurb: Riven Morell cuts short his regular life at school and home when his mother falls terminally ill. Desperate to find a cure, he travels to Severance Frontier, a desolate land haunted by hordes of ghosts, witches, and demons collectively called the Deathless. But a miraculous cure doesn’t magically fall into his hands. Things are worse in Severance Frontier than Riven had assumed. Ghosts are banding together into armies, demons are kidnapping anyone who strays out of settlements, and witches are enslaving everyone left and right. Riven, of course, gets embroiled in the mess. Missions to curb the Deathless activity are one thing, but when it starts to look like this is just the beginning of a war that extends beyond the mortal realm, Riven has a hard time focusing on why he came to Severance Frontier in the first place. His mother is inching towards death with every passing day, but if he doesn’t face down the Deathless, what little civilization the Frontier holds will be overrun and destroyed. Thankfully, it looked like the Deathless might just hold the secret of the elusive cure.

The Villain's Double Life
“The Villain’s Double Life as the Hero’s Mentor," “Demon Nobles Want to Live Too: A Hero-Raising Simulator for the Transmigrated Villain," “Just Because I’m a Villain Doesn’t Mean I Want the World to End!” Cyrus Calvide was the second son of an aristocratic lord; haughty, vain and power-hungry. One day, when his ancestral inheritance manifested, he discovered he was able to steal other’s powers and abilities using demonic magic. Taking this as a sign that he was destined to rule over others and become the new king of this land, he poisoned his father, killed his elder brother, and embarked on the path to greatness, taking advantage of a demonic invasion to consolidate power and harvest the abilities of others in a cruel and bloody fashion. Until he was summarily defeated by the Hero as a mid-game boss battle and executed for his crimes, of course. When a dedicated fan of the RPG “Next to Eden” awakened in the body of the cruelest future Count, four years before the beginning of the game, he pledged to live humbly. He would let his brother lead and support the Hero from the shadows to ensure the demon invasion would be defeated and he could enjoy life in peace. Rather, he would have, if he hadn’t gotten the Hero’s mentor killed in a freak monster attack before the Hero’s training could even begin. How was he supposed to live a life of peace and luxury if the Hero couldn’t stop the end of the world!? Donning a mask, Cyrus took up mentoring the Hero himself; how hard could it possibly be? . . . Four years later, the kind jack-of-all-trades hero Leon had become a twisted powerhouse: alienating his party members, clearing enemy encounters in a single magical blast, and coldly ignoring the affections of the girl whose love would have allowed him to clear the final boss. He seemed to have plastered himself to his Master’s side, instead. Cyrus bit back his despair while the hero reached out to grasp his hand. “Please stop ignoring the saint, Leon; you can't beat the Demon King by grinding stats! You need the power of love, remember?” “Don’t worry, Master,” Leon smiled as he traced the lines of Cyrus’s palm gently, almost reverently. “I have all the love I need.” VDL is two parts plot and worldbuilding, one part slow-build gay romance, starring a man far too proud to admit he's in over his head and the hero who loves him. Should be updating weekly.
