《the sincerity taehyung couldn't deliver.||COMPLETED》A Promise At Last

The wait was finally over. Today was the big day, and not just for the two love-sick boys but also for everyone around them.

It was supposed to be a small wedding but knowing Hoseok, the venue and food will be enough for hundreds.

"And how about the cake? Will it be here on time?"

"Yes, hyung. I am sure it will. I promised you I will take care of it," he places a hand on his hyung's back, trying to be the support he deeply needs during this time.

"Thank you, Gguk. I don't know what I'd do without you."

"Probably cry for the next hour but that's what the bestman is for, right?"

"You are right, it's not even that serious. I am just getting married to the most fucking amazing man on this planet. What could possibly go wrong?" he chuckles ironically, clearly going insane from all of this.

"I feel you..." Jeongguk sighs and for the first time Hoseok realises his dongsaeng is also having a hard time trying to fight back his worries.

"Is he coming?"

"I don't know. No one has heard from him."

"Okay, listen Gguk. Either he comes or not, I want you to know that it's not your fault. Taehyung himself told you he needed some time to himself, I am sure he'll come around eventually."

"Wouldn't he already be here if he wanted?"

"It may just take a little longer than we expected. Try not to think about it too much, okay?" hugging the younger tightly, Hoseok gives him an encouraging smile before walking outside the room and leaving Jeongguk alone.

The cold wind messes Jeongguk's already all-over-the-place hair. He really needs to get a haircut, he thinks to himself.

Now, that everything's finally prepared, he has some time alone and he already feels himself getting lost in his thoughts.

It's been 4 months since he woke up to an empty bed back in Paris and a letter on the pillow next to him.

'I need to fully heal to be able to give you the love you deserve', were some of the words it said.

Jeongguk was willing to give Taehyung the time he needed even though he didn't like it in the slightest. He couldn't text or call, he couldn't go look for him no matter how badly he wanted.

It was devastating, to not be able to do anything and just wait in silence.

Once he finished his tour, he flew back home to Seoul since he no longer saw the point at staying abroad when he didn't really know many people there.

Most importantly, he missed his parents and brothers. Right on the second day Jeongguk came back, he promised Hoseok to help with all the wedding preparations.

Jeongguk never once complained since he tried his best and it ended up working most of the time, and besides that, it was keeping him busy and for as long as he was busy, whether it was picking Hoseok's suit or the cake flavour, it was easier for him to go through his days.

Jeongguk soon found himself getting way too many tattoos and hitting members' flats every other night because his own bed felt cold with just him inside the entire apartment.

However, his brothers didn't mind, they enjoyed the youngest's company which they were no longer as used to as they were few years ago.

Letting out a cloud of his warm breath, from the balcony, his brown eyes follow two figures which just ringed the bell at the front door. In no time, he recognises his ex fiancée and waves back at her and her now husband.

"Jiae's here," he peeks his head inside to call for Hoseok to go get it.

Him and Jiae haven't been much in contact ever since they both realised their relationship was far from what they imagined it to be at first. He was never really upset about the two of them ending things between them because after all, he didn't love her as much as he thought he did, he only loved the feeling of closure which he desperately needed at that time.

Things seemed to turn out good for her, aside from Jeongguk. Mainly now that she's freshly married to the man she truly loves and yes, just like he told them at their wedding, Jeongguk is sincerely happy for them.

He sighs once again without even realising it, warm breath creating a white cloud of smoke in front of his face. He should probably get inside, it's getting really cold. Just when he's about to leave, Jimin's voice comes from behind him.

"What is our golden maknae doing on this balcony all by himself?"

"Not much actually," Jeongguk answers absentmindedly, eyes staring down at the trees engulfed in freeze.

"You know maybe you should find someone to talk to. Get to know new

people, find some new crush...How does that sound?"

"Not interested."

"Come on, Gguk. You are young, handsome, super talented and ultra rich. What a waste would that be if you stayed single forever?"

"I've already had my happily ever after, Jimin," Jeongguk snickers, not enough to push him away but enough to show him he really wasn't in the mood for a conversation if it was about to go that way.

"Taehyung texted me a while ago."

"He did?"

Jimin nods, fingers playing with his sweater paws.

"He's not coming."

"Oh..." Jeongguk tries to hide his disappointment by looking away from his brother but Jimin knows him too well not to notice a sudden change of his appearance.

"He also sent me a cute picture to show the fresh husbands. Do you want to see it?" afraid to see what his reaction may be, Jimin tries not to push on the younger.

He quickly pulls the phone from his back pocket once Jeongguk nods, already looking for the attachment in his and Taehyung's conversation.

"Here."

Jimin sees the change in Jeongguk's eyes, how the two empty spaces turn into a galaxy with a few little sparkly stars as he stares at the photo on the screen. The corners of his lips slightly lift upwards even though he doesn't control it, doesn't even realise it probably.

"Cute," Jeongguk mumbles, forcing his eyes to leave the picture of a boxy-smiling Taehyung with Yeontan in a wedding gown. He hasn't changed a bit, only his hair grew slightly longer and got a little curlier but it's still the same Taehyung who kept whispering the words 'I love you' to him for the whole night back in Paris. Still the same Taehyung, his Taehyung.

The wedding went smoothly, everything perfect just like Hoseok wished for it to be. And mainly thanks to Jeongguk's and his hard work, the whole event turned out so well that he hoped his wedding would be at least half as pleasing as his hyungs'; if he ever has one.

It was already few minutes to midnight, only the closest friends of the fresh husbands remained as the atmosphere got someone quieter but still very comfortable. Jeongguk was sitting alone at the table for many more people than just himself, but he didn't mind the lack of socialization at this point.

With a glass of some fine wine in his hand, he watches his brothers having fun at the dancefloor. Hobi is in a tight embrace of his husband, just like they've been for most of the night, just enjoying the presence of the other. Jeongguk notices their warming smiles which fully reach their eyes, sincere, full of love and he wonders if love has always been all around him like it is at this moment.

Taking a sip, he smiles at Jimin who just grabbed Jin hyung's hand and pulled him closer to dance like two mad men that they are. He follows their movements with a smile but deep down he's more than glad that Jimin found a new dance partner because Jeongguk's leg would surely no longer be able to keep up. Definitely not after two hours of being forced to follow Jimin's moves all around the ballroom. Turning 25 this year, he was no longer the youngest.

Today was a good day, Jeongguk thinks to himself, and that he hasn't said in so long.

He knows today will be gone soon, and once tomorrow brings a new day, things may not be the same. But he for sure knows that now, right at this moment, as he looks at the world around him, the people who are his world, he feels happy. So happy he feels his warm blood in his veins, little shivers all over his body, he prays for things to stay this way. Even if Taehyung's not here with him to see it, to share his happiness with him, he knows that better days will come. He hopes, that he'll be given more days like this.

Jeongguk sees Hoseok sister's little girl run to him from the corner of the room. He watches her with a smile, loving the kid, who he sadly doesn't get to see often, with his whole heart. His heart feels at peace just be the happy smile playing on her face, until he looks behind her to see the person she's pulling by hand with her. His smile never faded faster.

"Jeonggukie opaa, look! Taehyungie oppa came!" Jiwoon's smile widened even more, letting go of Taehyung's hand and pushing him closer to Jeongguk when she positions him right in front of him.

"Hi, Jeongguk," his voice comes straight to Jeongguk, immediately relaxing at the sound of his deep tone.

"Hi, Tae," he says back, thankful his voice didn't come as weak as expected as he turns his attention towards Jiwoon to place a kiss to her forehead. "Thank you for bringing him to me."

"I didn't-"

"Can I have one dance?" they say at the same time, both smiling to themselves until Jeongguk answers Taehyung's question.

"You can have as many as you want," he says, taking Taehyung's already offered hand.

"Wasn't expecting that after Jimin texted me you couldn't keep up with him anymore, but I am glad," Taehyung leaves a deep chuckle, the one that goes straight to Jeongguk's heart.

"Of course he didn't tell me you were coming," the younger rolls his eyes while taking a look at Jimin who was still way too busy to notice the two youngest walking towards the entrance. No one really seemed to notice as they walked, Taehyung intertwining his long fingers with Jeongguk's.

As they walk outside, Jeongguk letting Taehyung lead him wherever he pleases with full trust, seeming like the older is the one who knows it around here better as they walk all the way to the summer house. Head lifting to look up at the glass ceiling, Jeongguk stares at the stars which seem to shine much brighter tonight.

"They shine for you."

Moving slowly, Jeongguk soon catches Taehyung already staring at his brightest star.

"I would say I didn't expect you to come but you already know that," he says once he finds the courage in himself.

"You should have known I'd come back to you, always," Taehyung plays with the words that leave his mouth, both arms making their way to connect with Jeongguk, to be a little closer.

With protective arms being wrapped around his waist, he lets his own hug Taehyung's neck, starting to move as one to the rhythm of soft music coming from the inside.

"Have you seen Namjoon's little girl? I swear he hasn't stopped crying ever since they took her home," Jeongguk tells him, head pointing towards the large windows where their hyung can be seen clearly, holding a little baby in his arms with a loving smile.

"He must be so happy."

"They all are. I couldn't wish for more," eyes leaving Namjoon's smile, Jeongguk sees Taehyung already staring back at him. Eyes seeming to be for him, and him only. And his heart really was, beating for him.

"You are so beautiful," the older whispers, already feeling himself getting lost in Jeongguk's eyes who tries to hide from him with a soft giggle escaping him.

"You used to tell me every time."

"I also used to tell you I love you and that hasn't changed a bit."

He sees how Jeongguk freezes slightly at his place, letting the words get to his head and accept the meaning.

"Did you come to stay this time, though? I need to know."

Staring at him for a little longer before answering, he gently pulls Jeongguk's long curls behind his ear to see his eyes clearly.

"I promised the next time I come, I will have the ring ready and won't let go of you ever again."

They stop their movements, Jeongguk being the first one to let his arms fall back to his side, staring back at the man with so many emotions held in his eyes. He just stands there like that, finding comfort in not just his words but eyes too.

It takes him one step forward to connect their lips again after months, and when it finally happens, there was no doubt about both hearts being completely healed at the moment along with their deepest wounds.

The clock struck midnight with Taehyung mumbling the words 'Happy birthday' but never letting his lips leave the younger's. With the words being spoken, new day comes and Jeongguk once again proves himself, that no matter how beautiful yesterday was, today, with Taehyung in his arms, there were not just a few better day waiting for him, but every single one from now on, for as long as he spends them by the side of the one he loves, he won't ever wish for anything more.

"Looks like our story has a happy ending after all."

___________

That night, heart to heart and soul to soul, the one who once seemed to be a lost boy, Kim Taehyung, had fallen in love all over again with the boy who held his whole universe in his eyes.

And that same night, the boy who had seemed to grow up too fast by the side of his older brothers, Jeon Jeongguk, fell in love with the boy who stole his heart right there, under the endless sky of millions of stars. And they swore that two of those above them would be their own, forever.

I promise, if you look close enough, you may see them still shining by each other's side.

The end.

I held the stars

in my arms

when I held you.
