《Actions Speak Louder Than Fortune Cookies》93 - Good News or Bad News?

As they sat in a small coffee bar tucked away onto a side street in downtown Florence, Sebastian looked at Rylee seriously.

"So. Do you want the good news, or the bad news first?" Sebastian stated, taking a bite of his toast.

Rylee stared at him, trying to decide if this was actually serious or not, but his face stayed stoic and unreadable, "Um. Bad news."

"Bad news is, this is our last day in Florence." Sebastian stated matter of factly.

Rylee's lips instantly turned into a pout, sad at the thought, "But I thought our vacation was until the 27th."

"Uh-Uh-Uh. You've got to ask about the good news part before you start questioning things."

Humoring him, she looked at him and said, "Okay, hit me with the good news."

"We're packing our things up tonight and heading to our next destination tomorrow morning after breakfast."

Rylee was utterly shocked. Another destination? There was more than just Florence for their vacation?

Rylee had wanted to come up with some witty response, but her brain was stuck trying to figure out where they would be going tomorrow.

"Just...don't try guessing. What will be, will be." Sebastian winked over the edge of his coffee cup, sipping slowly, "Let's just enjoy our last Florence day, shall we?"

He held his cup out slightly towards her, and she moved her cup closer as well, clinking them together to toast as she nodded, relaxing into her chair.

Throughout the rest of the afternoon, they spent their time simply walking up and down the streets of the city, taking everything in, hands laced tightly together.

"Excuse me, you're Sebastian right?" Both Sebastian and Rylee stopped as they heard a voice ask behind them, causing them to turn.

There were two girls behind them, both around 25 or so years old.

"We're sorry to bother you, we just love your movies...and wanted to say hi."

"Oh, no problem at all, thank you! That's so nice! What're your names?"

"I'm Mandy," the petite red head spoke first.

"And I'm Charlie," her tall, brunette friend tagged on.

"Well, I guess you know me, but this is my..." he paused for a split second, unsure what to say. Fiancée? Girlfriend? They hadn't talked about it yet...he'd play it safe for now and talk to her about it later, "this is Rylee." Sebastian quickly finished.

They both waved and said hello, and made small talk for a few minutes, talking about their favorites of Sebastian's characters and movies. And giving them tips about traveling throughout Italy and what they should see before they leave the country.

"It's so nice to meet you both in real life," Charlie said, "I follow you both on Instagram and your relationship is just, ah, so wonderful." Charlie blushed at her own words, almost embarrassed to have said it.

"Aw, thank you! He's okay I guess." Rylee said as she scrunched her nose up, looking at him. She looped her right hand around his hip, and patted his chest with her left. He looped his arm around her hip in return.

Both Charlie and Mandy's eyes widened and they both side-eyed each other, as they noticed the ring glimmering on Rylee's finger.

Rylee followed their eyes down to where her hand laid and she froze. Oh crap. Rylee looked back up at Sebastian who was looking down at her. He gave her a small shrug, almost invisible to the naked eye. And she nodded slightly in return.

"Yeah, so that's a thing." Sebastian said out loud to Mandy and Charlie.

"Oh..my..god..." Mandy said covering her mouth with both hands, Charlie doing the same, obviously covering a large smile.

"Congratulations! Oh my god that's so exciting! When did you get engaged!?" Charlie asked, emitting pure excitement and joy for them.

Rylee laughed at her giddiness, "Yesterday actually."

"That's amazing! Can we see it?" Charlie asked shyly, unsure if she should ask, "it's okay if not-"

"No, absolutely!" Rylee said sticking her left hand out, squeezing Sebastian's hip with her other hand.

"Oh my gosh it's so beautiful! Great job Sebastian." Mandy and Charlie laughed.

"Thanks. I try." Sebastian laughed in return and looked at his watch, "Ah, sadly we've gotta get rolling, but it was so nice to meet you both!"

Sebastian stepped away from Rylee and offered out an arm, suggesting to ask for a hug, to which Mandy and Charlie both obliged. They also hugged Rylee and gave them their sincere congratulations for getting engaged.

"Oh, about that," Sebastian tagged in quickly, "I know I can't control what you talk about or anything, but we haven't gotten to announce this ourselves yet..."

Charlie interrupted him, "you're secrets safe with us, right Mandy?" She asked, Mandy nodding her head in agreement.

"Thanks so much, we really appreciate it," Rylee added, leaning into Sebastian's side.

"It was nice meeting you two, and thanks for all the Italy advice!" Sebastian said, with a wave as they turned to walk away.

"It was nice meeting you too! And you're welcome! Enjoy and congrats!" Charlie commented as they walked across the street the other direction.

Rylee laced her fingers back with Sebastian's and pulled him closer to her side, "I could honestly watch you talk to fans all day."

"They were nice," Sebastian replied simply.

"Even beyond that though, you could always just say like..hey thanks bye...but you don't. You take time to really talk to everyone you ever meet. It's just really sweet."

"Oh goddd..." Sebastian said, running his hand through his hair, his cheeks tinting pink from the acknowledgment and praise.

"You're so cute." Rylee said adoringly.

Sebastian scrunched his nose up at her, but wasn't sure where she was going with her comment.

"Cause you don't know how to take a compliment without getting utterly embarrassed." Rylee chuckled, pulling him close again.

Sebastian's cheeks turned another shade of pink and leaned over to kiss the side of Rylee's head as they continued walking down the sun kissed street.

The next morning, Sebastian and Rylee got ready at a snail's pace. When they were half ready, Sebastian called down to have breakfast brought up to their suite. He had today's travels planned out already and he wanted to make sure they ate before they headed out.

They enjoyed their small breakfast and their coffees and prepared to check out. Sebastian dressed in a simple grey t-shirt and jeans, donning a backwards black baseball cap. Rylee also kept her outfit simple, black leggings, and a white t-shirt underneath a blue zip up hoodie she snagged from Sebastian.

Rylee still wasn't completely sure what they were up to for the day until they got to the train station, where, when it clicked, she stopped in her tracks.

When Sebastian noticed a few steps later that she stopped, he turned and asked "You okay?"

"We are not about to get on that train to Rome." Rylee stated, sounding like a giddy 16 year old who just got their license.

"I thought we'd at least make it to the platform before you picked up on it but... ta da!" Sebastian said with a dramatic hand gesture towards pretty much nothing in particular.

"First Florence, now Rome? You're too much Sebastian Stan." Rylee pretended to swoon, but inside she was unbelievably excited.

Sebastian smiled from ear to ear, putting his hand out for Rylee to take, which she did quickly as they made their way to the platform.

About two hours later, they arrived, and Rylee couldn't contain herself. She was still beyond ecstatic that their trip involved two cities. She was taking in everything around her as Sebastian put their suitcases into the back of their car that had just arrived.

"You ready, baby?" Sebastian asked as he opened the door for her.

Rylee smiled widely and nodded practically skipping towards the car and inside, Sebastian following in behind her.

They drove along the crowded roads for around fifteen minutes, taking in everything around them. Sebastian put his hand on Rylee's thigh, giving it a light squeeze and she put her hand on top of his hand.

"Oh wow! There's the colosseum! It's amazing, gosh, I could look at it all day." Rylee sighed as she continued to take it in as their car came to a stop on the curb.

"Well, that's good, because our hotel is across the street." Sebastian said, squeezing her thigh again as he opened the door. He offered his hand to help her out of the car, where she had froze for a moment. Our hotels across from the colosseum? What?

Sebastian walked back to get their things from the trunk as Rylee stared at the hotel and then back to the colosseum.

"Shall we?" Sebastian said as he gestured for Rylee to lead the way as he carried their bags behind her.

Their hotel, Palazzo Manfredi, was a small but beautiful building. It looked simple on the outside but was absolutely gorgeous inside.

They checked in and headed up to their fourth floor suite. The elevator music playing soft, rhythmic music as they waited patiently. They turned right out of the elevator and Rylee opened the door to their suite.

She was immediately taken back, just by the view out the window, completely scanning past the suite itself. Directly outside their window was the Colosseum. The old stone refracting the bright summer sun.

"What do you think?" Sebastian said as he snuck past Rylee's gawking eyes to set their suit cases down in the suite.

He gave her a moment to respond but she didn't, still staring out the window. He walked up to her, blocking her vision, and slid his hands on either of her hips, "I'm going to assume your silence is a good thing?"

Rylee finally looked up at Sebastian and threw her arms around his neck, pulling him in for a tight embrace, "This trip is unreal, Seb."

That woodsy cologne settled in for Rylee as she kept Sebastian pulled tightly to her, refusing to let go. She always loved it. It didn't matter where they were, he always felt like home. And the familiar smell always relaxed her.

"Well, the only thing I had planned for tonight was us wandering out to find dinner. What do you think?" Sebastian asked.

"What are we waiting for?" Rylee said, smattering Sebastian's face with more kisses.

——————————

For a few hours, Sebastian and Rylee milled about the city, taking in everything around them. Rome was a bit more crowded than Florence had been, so they weren't surprised that they got stopped a bit more often by roaming fans than they had in the week prior.

Rylee watched on, as Sebastian talked to a few people. Just as she'd mentioned before, she loved watching him talk with fans. He so genuinely cared about what they had to say and took the time to really hear people out.

Someone had asked Sebastian to take a picture, and while he lined up for it, he looked over to Rylee and shrugged with a wink.

Rylee let out a small laugh at his nonchalantness and began looking around again, taking in the street around them. The sun was beginning to set, which cast gorgeous hues of orange and gold across the buildings surrounding them.

She could hear loads of conversations around them, some English, mostly Italian. But it all sounded so beautiful meshed together, filling the air.

Rylee glimpsed across the busy street and noticed a few people with cameras. Ugh. How long have they been there. Shit.

They still hadn't officially announced their engagement yet, and they still hadn't had the chance to talk about when and how they wanted to get the news out there.

She quickly rolled her fingers around, turning her engagement ring inside her hand so you could only see the band. That would maybe gain them some time.

Rylee waved subtly to Sebastian, grabbing his attention to point out the people across the street. He nodded in understanding and finished his conversation with the girls in front of him.

He stepped aside, thanking them and bidding them all a good rest of the day. He walked over the few steps to Rylee and took her hand in his, rubbing across her knuckles with his thumb.

"We've been in the city, what? Three hours? And they already honed in on us." Sebastian practically rolled his eyes.

"We just get to sneak around like rowdy horny teenagers now." Rylee said with a smirk.

"Like we don't do that already," Sebastian laughed with a kiss to the side of Rylee's temple, pulling her close.
