《Actions Speak Louder Than Fortune Cookies》45 - Burning Up

Sebastian was still stuck on a crazy filming schedule and on Monday, even had to fly down to Georgia again for a days worth of shooting. He flew out at 6:00 am and landed back in New York at 8:00 pm.

When he got off the plane and into the New York airport terminal, he was exhausted. He had his backpack slung over his shoulder and was wearing his usual "I'm trying to blend in" outfit, which overall was working out, thank god, because his social battery was drained and he really didn't think he could talk to any more people today.

He rode the escalator down to the crowded airport lobby and saw Rylee at the bottom in the sea of people, leaning back against a pillar, fiddling with her phone. He couldn't help the small, tired smile that appeared on his face when he saw her.

Sebastian walked over to her and as he got close enough, Rylee caught him in her peripheral vision, causing her to look up from her phone and smile widely in return.

"Hey baby," Rylee greeted him, wrapping him in a tight hug.

"Hey you," Sebastian squeezed back, leaning down lazily to place a kiss on her lips.

Rylee blushed lightly at the action, they hadn't really participated in many public displays of affection, but she would be lying if she said she didn't love it.

She was also surprised that he gripped her hand tightly in his, lacing their fingers together.

"You alright?" Rylee asked gently, giving his fingers a quick squeeze in her light grip.

"Mhm" Sebastian commented back, though he still sounded off. "Why?"

"I dunno, just surprised." She said looking down at their linked hands and then back to his face.

"Well I don't know about you, and I'll respect whatever you wanna do, but damn I just wanna show you off. You're gorgeous." He mumbled quietly into her ear.

Rylee's blush had diminished but returned quickly at his words, she nodded. They had been dating for a few months now, and he said she was gorgeous often, but it still gave her butterflies.

They walked out of the airport lobby side by side, hand in hand, out into the street lights of the parking lot. Sebastian was unphased when a few camera flashes went off when they stepped out. He put on a smile and waved, continuing their path. They walked a few aisles down and got into Sebastian's car that Rylee had driven there. She had offered him the keys, but he declined, just feeling too off to drive in his opinion. He wasn't sure what it was. He felt sapped of all his energy, his head mucked up.

She got into the drivers seat and waited for Sebastian to get situated, tossing his backpack into the backseat.

She started driving them in the direction of home and Sebastian was quiet. Rylee thought he would have a bunch of ridiculous stories or things to talk about but instead he rested his head on his hand that was propped against the window, eyes closed.

She let him relax in silence, probably wiped from all the travel today. She noticed out of the corner of her eye that his head kept lolling out of his hand, startling him awake for a moment, before he went right back to the same position.

He eventually angled himself back enough that he stopped tipping forward and his breathing got slower and deeper. The trip from LaGuardia to Manhattan was only about half an hour, but Sebastian dozed during every second of the trip.

They eventually reached home, Rylee lightly rubbed Sebastian's shoulder, causing him to jump slightly. "Sorry, we're home bub, let's head inside."

Sebastian simply nodded, reached back for his backpack and got out of the car. Rylee opened the apartment building door and ushered Sebastian inside. They got upstairs and through their apartment door and Rylee was genuinely surprised with how off Sebastian looked. At first she thought he was just lagging from all the travel, but now he just looked like he was dragging, and pale.

She caught a few random sniffles out of him before she asked, "hey...are you feeling okay?" Gently putting her hand on his arm to get him to stop walking.

"Yeah, mm fine. Just gonna go lay down for a bit." Sebastian stated in a monotone voice.

Rylee followed him upstairs quietly, but broke off to dip into the bathroom to grab their thermometer and turn on the bathtub faucet, closing the drain and letting it slowly fill.

Sebastian sat on the edge of the bed, his head lying over in one hand that was propped up by his knee. His eyes were closed but he could hear Rylee milling around. The next thing he knew, Rylee was tapping his lips with the thermometer, waiting for him to accept it. Which he did, but stayed lazily in his spot.

After a minute or so the thermometer beeped and Rylee pulled it out to see that the tool read 102.3.

"Seb. You're burning up, love. Come on. How about you jump in the bath, and I'll get some stuff together for you, okay?" She placed the back of her hand on his forehead to indeed confirm he was very warm, then slid her fingers back through his hair, massaging his scalp lightly as she passed through it.

All Sebastian could do was nod. Rylee walked with him to the bathroom, slowly helping him undress and get comfortable in the warm water. "I'll be back," she said as she kissed the top of his head and quickly left the bathroom.

Soon, she popped back into the bathroom to see Sebastian resting his head back on the lip of the tub, eyes closed. She questioned if he was actually asleep, but when she accidentally bumped the door, making it creak, he opened one of his eyes to look her way. "Mmm. Hi. Didn't realize how shitty I actually felt."

"I'm surprised myself. You hit a wall pretty fast when we got home," Rylee said, closing the distance between them and sitting on the edge of the tub, running her hands through Sebastian's wet hair. She grabbed the bottle of shampoo and squirted a dollop into her palm. She rubbed it together in her hands to lather it a bit and then started massaging it into Sebastian's hair, eliciting a happy groan out of him.

Rylee grabbed the handheld shower head and continued massaging out the shampoo, spraying it as she went. She did the same with a bit of conditioner.

After it was all washed out, Rylee went to grab Sebastian some comfy clothes as he dried off. When she came back she stood beside Sebastian, who was sitting on the lip of the tub, wrapped in his towel, looking winded. "Fuck. I'm like... dying Ry," Sebastian sighed, leaning into her hip beside him. She hugged his head closer to her, not caring if she got wet from his damp hair. "You poor thing," Rylee chuckled half sarcastically.

She took a towel and rubbed his head gently with it, drying his hair as much as she could while he sat low enough for her to do so. She handed him his clothes and turned around to dig through the medicine cabinet as he slowly changed. She finally found some Zzzquil, and got a few tablets out for him. When she turned around again, Sebastian had changed into the clothes she gave him, a pair of black basketball shorts and a white t-shirt, and he had now made it to the padded bench behind her.

"Come on love, let's go get you settled." Rylee stated reassuringly as she guided him to the bedroom. He sat on the bed as she handed him a glass of water and the Zzzquil, which he took quickly, practically chugging the entire glass.

He slowly fell over, laying down on the pillow. He looked at the side table and saw that Rylee had stocked it up with anything and everything a sick person would need. Tissues, Gatorade, the works. His heart was overwhelmed with all that Rylee was doing for him. He probably could have drug his ass slowly through the house to handle everything himself today, but she didn't make him lift a finger.

Sebastian was surprised how fast the Zzzquil was hitting his system. He could already feel his eyelids becoming heavier as he laid there.

"ThanksRyiloveyou," Sebastian seemed to sputter out all in one word, as his words slurred together in a sleepy haze.

"I love you babe, just rest." Rylee said, sitting on the edge of the bed, pushing back Sebastian's hair, leaning over to kiss his still very warm forehead.

Sebastian fell asleep almost instantly but sounded oh, so awfully stuffed up.

She went to grab his backpack downstairs to unpack it for him and his phone lit up in the side pocket.

Rylee tapped the home button and went to view who the messages were from.

Ayo. You got free time later tonight?

Wanted to look at something on the script.

Take yo pants offffff

Also when's call tomorrow? 6?

Hey man, gotta cancel Thurs

Wife-o scheduled an appt at 7.

She decided to answer everyone, just so they didn't think Sebastian was leaving them hanging. Most of these messages were from when he was still on the plane, so they were a few hours old.

Hey Chris, it's Rylee. Sebastian's not feeling great tonight. He won't be able to look at script stuff. Sorry!

Hey Anthony, it's Rylee. Sebastian's not feeling great tonight. But don't worry. His pants are off. 😂 also yes, call is six.

Hey Don, it's Rylee. Sebastian's not feeling great tonight. But I'll let him know you had to cancel. Hope alls well!

She was about to set his phone down on the table when it vibrated in her hand, but then vibrated again, someone was calling.

She turned it over to see Chris' face filling up the screen.

Incoming call

(Decline) (Accept)

Rylee picked it up, "Hey Chris."

"Hey Ry, is Sebastian okay?"

"Yeah, he's some kind of sick. I went to pick him up at the airport tonight and he was already down hill. But between the airport and home, he was at rock bottom. Really tired. Stuffed up. Dizzy. All sorts of stuff."

"Poor guy. I think all this set times got us all fucked up and run down. Hayleys got the flu. And Daniel had a 24 hour stomach bug a few days ago."

"Oh wow. Better watch yourself then Evans." Rylee laughed.

"Listen, that ain't funny." Chris laughed, Boston accent oozing through the phone. "Alright, well I just wanted to check in. Tell him I called, 'kay?"

"Will do, thanks for calling Chris."

"Bye Ry."

"Bye."

As she hung up, Anthony texted back.

Thanks Rylee, tell him I said get better soon. Or I'll kick his little Romanian ass.

She laughed at his response, but didn't send a reply, just "liked" his message.

She took Sebastian's phone and backpack upstairs, unpacking it and laying his phone on the side table, plugging it in to charge.

She hovered for a moment to check on Sebastian but he was still completely out, dead to the world.

She left the bedroom, closing the door lightly behind her.
