《Actions Speak Louder Than Fortune Cookies》35 - Took long enough

Rylee and Sebastian sat together eating their breakfast and finishing their coffees. There was not much else they could do at the moment about the situation. They would go to buy her a new phone as well as stop at the police station to hopefully get some closure on the incident.

"Lex wanted a call from me or you today..to talk about yesterday. Do you want me to call her?" He offered cautiously.

"No, no. I'll call her. Thank you though." She sent a small sad smile his way before it turned into a deep frown, concern drenching her eyebrows. "Shit. How do I keep forgetting. I broke my phone last night." She ran her hands through her hair, grasping it gently, feeling stupid for forgetting so quickly. Sebastian ducked his head in embarrassment as well. They were literally just talking about it. How did he forget.

"Here, use mine." He handed her his phone and she began to dial Alexa's number, leaving the room to go sit on the couch in the living room. Sebastian stayed in the kitchen, cleaning up the morning's mess.

The phone only rang once before Rylee heard her best friend's concerned voice from the other end of the line.

"Thank God Sebastian, it took you long enough. How is she? What happened?" She seemed to speak a mile a minute.

"Hi to you too." Rylee said quietly, twisting her brown curls between her fingers.

"Oh my god. I'm sorry Ry. How are you? Are you okay?" Alexa briefly looked at her phone screen to confirm that the call was indeed from Sebastian's phone and not Rylee's. She was confused, but let it go.

Rylee nodded into the phone realizing Alexa couldn't see her, she responded verbally, "Yeah. I'm fine. I'm okay."

"Can..can I ask what happened last night? I've been worried sick about you. You haven't had a panic attack in a long time...not since-"

"I know," Rylee cut her off. Not needing the reminder. She knew her last panic attack was what led to the move here. Because of Michael...She took a deep breath, sat crisscross on the grey couch, clutching a pillow in her lap and began explaining the moments that led up to last night's end.

Alexa listened intently on the other end, in shock over this happening right under her nose. She was livid. Michael was scum of the earth and she has despised him for quite some time...She also now understood why Rylee was calling her on Seb's phone and not her own. She sighed into the phone when Rylee fell quiet. Alexa wished she was there right now to just hug her, but she knew Rylee was in good hands with Sebastian. She knew they haven't been together long, but she could see the love he had for Rylee.

"So..." Alexa left a brief pause, " do you want me to let Johnny know you won't be in tonight? I can spare him the details but he should know what happened -"

"No. No I'll call him and explain. He should definitely know, but I can't let this scare me out of living my life."

Sebastian walked around the corner, drying his hands on a towel, leaning against the wall, listening to her finish her conversation with Alexa. He was surprised and overwhelmed at her response. He was surprised she wanted to go back to work so soon. He took a mental note to talk to her about it later.

Rylee finished her call with Alexa, sharing 'I love yous' and 'see you laters' before she hung up. She sighed, closing her eyes and laying her head back onto the couch cushions behind her. She tossed Sebastian's phone on the couch beside her.

"You alright?" Sebastian asked when he realized that she didn't know he was still standing there against the wall.

She turned her head to look over at him and nodded, patting the couch next to her, encouraging him to sit.

He sat down, offering out his arms and embracing her into a hug. "You know, you don't have to rush back to work." Sebastian reminded her gently, pushing some of her loose strands of hair out of her face and behind her ear.

"I know, but if I don't go back tonight, I might never go back. I can't be afraid to live my life."

He squeezed her tighter and kissed the top of her head, "You're the bravest, most kind, and caring soul...God, I love you."

There was a moment of silence between the two. She looked up at him and he made eye contact with her. He quickly realized that he had absolutely just said that out loud. Oh. That came out. Oh god. It's too soon. And during all this. I should say someth-

"I love you too, Sebastian." She said as she smiled gently, pulling him in and placing a sweet, slow kiss on his lips.

He smiled into the kiss offering more of himself to her, his tongue gliding across her lips as she welcomed it with her own. They sat there together for a few more moments, knowing if they didn't stop soon they'd probably end up in the bedroom, and they had places to be. They broke apart simultaneously and gazed lovingly at one another. Terrible things may happen but they knew they had each other to lean on and to love.

It was about noon and Sebastian knew the drill. When they're going out he tried to be as inconspicuous as possible.

He wore a pretty casual outfit, black jeans, a light blue t-shirt, and a pair of blue Nikes, but he added his black rimmed Ray Ban sunglasses and a plain black baseball cap to hopefully aid in his mission of blending in. He made his way out to the car, opening the passenger door for Rylee, who was wearing blue skinny jeans, a white crop top, Sebastian's aviator sunglasses, and a pair of black booties.

As he made his way back around the front of the car, he already noticed people taking his picture from across the street. He gave them a quick smile and a wave and got into the drivers side of the car. "Made it thirty whole seconds without a pap squad." Sebastian said with a laugh as he pulled into the street and off to start their days quests.

--------------------

They made it to the store and purchased Rylee a new phone. They were stopped a handful of times along the way, various people asking politely for Sebastian to take a picture with them, and he always obliged. Each time they stopped, Rylee watched on, in awe of Sebastian's kindness and patience. When he parted with those who stopped him, he always looked at her sheepishly, almost embarrassed by his status.

"You're always so kind." She mentioned softly as they walked away from the last group.

"Eh, it comes with the territory." Sebastian shrugged, walking next to her, itching to hold her hand, but afraid since they had only just started dating. They weren't technically public yet. Their closest friends knew but to everyone else they were simply a rumor.

"No it doesn't. You always go above and beyond for people. You could easily snap a quick picture and run, but you don't. You have meaningful conversations. You connect with people. It's wonderful to watch happen." She said, smiling at him.

They finished walking to the car with no further interruptions and got in, making their way to their next destination, the police station.

They were there for about an hour. Filling out paper work, providing a statement, but at the end of it all, the only resolution provided to them was that they would keep the information on file, but since no one was really hurt, it was considered a 'squabble'. In Sebastian's mind it would have been simpler for the officers to say, "Hey, you got lucky, just let it go." Cause that's what it sure felt like they were saying.

Sebastian tried not to storm out of the station, but he was fuming. Rylee followed closely behind, as they both got into their sides of the car. He slammed his hand on the steering wheel.

"Hey, hey, hey, what is it?" Rylee was surprised at his sudden outburst, placing her hand on his bicep.

Sebastian practically yelled, throwing his hands in the air, "What's the point in reporting a crime if the cops basically tell you to just cut your losses. Who knows what could've happened yesterday...and they just brushed it off." He put his head in his hands trying to comprehend everything that's happened, just now having it all crash down on him.

"It'll be okay. I'm fine. We're fine." Rylee tried to talk Sebastian back down, but as he leaned his head back towards the head rest, looking at the ceiling of the car, she saw a tear roll down his cheek.

"Baby. Look at me." Rylee begged, pulling gently at his chin to turn his face to look at her.

"We'll be okay. I love you."

"I love you, too." He sighed, unclenching his jaw and trying to relax. "God, you know I waited so long to say that? And then I go and just blurt it out on accident."

"Oh I know," Rylee stifled a giggle. "I still remember you almost saying it that morning you left for work when I had food poisoning. Alexa and I dissected that for the rest of the afternoon." She laughed, trying to diffuse the tension that had filled the car.

"I always wondered if you noticed that, because I absolutely almost did, but I didn't want to scare you off."

"After Alexa and I had talked about it I realized pretty quick that I kinda wished you had said it. Because I think I felt the same then too."

He turned his head towards her and smiled, pulling her in for a deep kiss. "Well then, I need to make up for lost time. I love you. I love you. I love you." Punctuating each sentence with a kiss.

Rylee laughed, trying to playfully push him away. "I love you too."

Sebastian put the car in drive and Rylee grabbed a hold of his hand, lacing her fingers with his and resting them on the center console as they drove down the street back towards Sebastian's apartment.
