《Actions Speak Louder Than Fortune Cookies》13 - Be My Baby

Sebastian woke up the next day with his 6:00 am alarm clock. Back on schedule. He rolled out of bed and immediately went into the bathroom to shower. He was slow moving today, but eventually he climbed out of the shower, towel around his waist.

He walked leisurely back to his bedroom, rubbing another smaller towel into his hair in hopes of helping it dry faster. He stood at his closet quickly pulling out a pair of gym shorts and a t-shirt to wear during his workout this morning.

During the extent of his time getting ready all he could think about was how he wished eight o'clock tonight would be here faster. He couldn't wait to start his and Rylee's evening together. After much contemplation he had finally settled on what he wanted to try to do tonight, so he was feeling restless and antsy.

He picked up his duffel bag and made his way down to the lobby.

"Good morning, Mr. Stan."

"Morning Shawn, how's Chloe been feeling?" Sebastian loved hearing about other's families and lives. He had always felt that simple statements and questions can go a long way with relationships, so that's what he always strived for. He enjoyed asking Shawn about his wife. She seemed sweet, though they had never met.

"Oh, she's great, sir. She hit 34 weeks today! Little Chloe junior is already giving us a run for our money though.

"On no!" Sebastian laughed. "Well you both will for sure be amazing parents. Hopefully I can meet the little peanut soon!"

"Oh you know I'll bring her in to show off and brag." He chuckled. "Luckily though, Jim and Paul are helping to cover my shifts when the time comes, but don't worry. I'll be back." He winked.

Shawn was mainly the night shift doorman, while Paul and Jim usually stick with the late morning and afternoon shifts. He liked Jim and Paul, but knew more about Shawn and related to him more as they were around the same age.

"You better, you know you're my favorite, man!" Sebastian walked backwards, pointing at him, chuckling. "Have a good day, I'll see yah later!"

Shawn laughed in return, "See yah, Mr. Stan!"

--------------------

Sebastian went through the motions of his day. Two or so hours at the gym, coffee from Round Corner Cafe, home to shower, look over scripts and emails, and hopefully that would carry him into the late afternoon. Luckily, he had Rylee to text throughout the day to help keep him motivated. Yet when he thought about her, all he could think about was how her lips felt on his. How soft and eager they were. Ugh this day was going to take an eternity. He ran his hands through his hair tugging on the ends as he placed his elbows on his desk, staring down at his most current script. Almost there...

He somehow survived and made it to 7:00. He started getting ready putting on a pretty casual outfit, just as he had recommended earlier in the day to Rylee when she asked for a dress code. He slid into a pair of dark wash jeans and a light blue shirt. He also decided to put on a plain black baseball hat in hopes for some anonymity for the evening, finishing his outfit with black nikes.

He made his way out the door around 7:30, loaded up his car and started driving towards Rylee's place. Why was he so damn nervous? They literally made out for God knows how long on her couch last night. You'd think that would make tonight easier, but for some reason he was feeling extra pressure.

He eventually made it through the usual New York traffic and parked outside Rylee's apartment at around 7:50. The sun was beginning to set across the city skyline, leaving a beautiful orange glow over the streets. He realized he was early but he would rather die than be a second late.

He decided to just go in, and was surprised that he was much more openly welcomed by her doorman today. She must've told him I was coming. He thought.

Since he wasn't walking in as anxiously as he was yesterday, he took a moment to notice the doorman's name tag.

Theo. He made it a point to commit his name to memory, saying "Thank you, Theo" after he buzzed him in.

"You're welcome, Mr. Stan."

"Please, call me Sebastian."

"Alrighty, Sebastian." he smiled genuinely in return.

Maybe Theo could have a talk with Shawn about talking to him on a first name basis, he laughed to himself.

He made his way up the elevator and down her hall to her door. He knocked, but wasn't sure if she'd heard. He could hear music blasting through the thin door. He took the chance and turned the doorknob, which easily turned in his grip, allowing him access and letting the music pour more loudly into the hallway before he shut the door behind him.

"Ellloooo?" Sebastian spoke in a slightly loud sing-songy voice as he walked inside.

He heard a small shriek come from the direction of her bathroom and the music paused.

"Hi! Sorry for the music! You're early!" Rylee poked her head out her bathroom door and blushed.

"You do you girl. I blast my music too. And I'm not that early." He laughed.

"Well...I'll be ready in like...five. Make yourself at home!" She leaned back into the bathroom and her music began again, but he noticed she turned it down a few notches.

Sebastian sat down on her couch, trying not to keep thinking about what happened in that exact spot 24 hours before. His neck felt hot thinking about it. As he took glances around the room, he noticed a photo album on the coffee table. He picked it up and began to skim through it. He ran across a lot of pictures of Rylee and Alexa, but everyone else was unknown. Hopefully time would tell and he'd be able to meet them someday...at least if their date went well... he was getting ahead of himself.

Rylee padded out from the bathroom putting in a pair of hoop earrings, wearing her hair down in loose curls. She wore a pair of merlot-colored belted shorts with thin white vertical stripes and a solid white knotted front tank top. Her feet wrapped in a pair of white strappy sandals. Gorgeous as always.

"You look beautiful," Sebastian commented shyly, putting down the photo album and standing up to hug her.

"Thank you," she pulled at the outside of her shorts pretending to curtsy. "You don't look too shabby either." She hugged him in return.

"Such high praise," he laughed back. "You ready?" He stuck out his elbow for her to link through, and she did so quickly, responding with a nod. They walked the whole way to his car linked together, only letting go to hold doors for her along the way.

"Have a good night Rylee...Sebastian," Theo stated as he held the outside door open for them.

"You too, Theo." Rylee smiled, Sebastian tipping his ball cap towards him as if to say the same.

"I'm surprised Theo already knows you, and you guys are even on a first name basis already. Wowww." She laughed.

"What can I say? I have a way with people." He tried to say with a straight face, but he started to laugh when she did.

As he shut her car door she sighed watching him walk around the car. Only like three minutes into the date and he's already perfect. Just how.

As he started his car, and smirked at her, "So, any guesses for what our evening entails?"

"Well...you mentioned dinner..so I'm guessing food will happen at some point."

"Oh, wow, you figured it out. Can't keep secrets from you." He winked laughing, and patting her leg. He itched to leave his hand on her leg but decided against it. First date, Seb. First date.

"Oh shut up," she jokingly swatted at his hand that reached to pat her leg. She had wished the physical contact didn't end but she had to remind herself. First date, Rylee. First date.

Sebastian continued driving smack dab into the middle of Manhattan, stopping soon enough outside the entrance of Central Park. Rylee was a little confused, not sure of what was around dinner-wise in the park as she didn't frequent here terribly often. She became even more confused when, after he opened her door for her, he went immediately to his trunk. He pulled out a rolled up blanket, tucking it under his elbow, and what looked like a large canvas covered bag, essentially the shape of a picnic basket.

"Hopefully the fact that this isn't a traditional wicker picnic basket doesn't take away from the evening." Sebastian quickly said as he shut the trunk.

"Not at all." Rylee smiled, taking the hand he just offered out to hold lacing their fingers together. Fuck, am I swooning? A picnic in the park? Sebastian. Pleaseeee.

He led them along some winding trails of the park, they began to crest a small hill. When they got to the top, Sebastian paused, looking straight out across the lawn and said "Tada!" On the lawn in front of them was a giant screen, she presumed for movies. Other New Yorkers had gathered on blankets spread throughout the area around them.

"Oh my god, Seb. This is amazing." She smiled at him in awe. He must've put so much thought into this night. She blushed at the idea of him really taking his time to make sure things were perfect.

"I hoped you'd like it. Let's go find a spot." He smiled proudly, squeezing her hand and walking with her to the middle of the lawn, somehow finding a perfect spot to be able to see the screen. It was also nice that everyone spaced out throughout the lawn, so no one was really on top of each other.

Sebastian set down their basket and unrolled their red tartan blanket on the grass. He helped Rylee sit down and then he joined her, bringing the basket closer and opening it. He unloaded most of it, showing her the contents: a radio, a bottle of moscato, water, chicken tortilla pinwheels, various cut up fruits and vegetables, cheese and crackers, chocolate chip cookies, and of course, popcorn.

Rylee was in shock. "Did you put all this together?"

"Yeah...the wine too. Took a few years to perfect but..." Sebastian joked.

"Stop." She swatted his arm playfully. "Seriously this is amazing. You don't give yourself enough credit."

"Well, you're amazing and deserve a great night, so I tried my best." Sebastian shrugged, seeming shy, acting like this didn't take a lot of thought and effort.

"Well, this night is amazing and it's barely even started." Rylee smiled leaning into him.

He took the opportunity to kiss the top of her head when she leaned over.

He reached over and grabbed two wine glasses from their basket contents and poured them both a glass. They continued talking and eating, grabbing various finger foods as they pleased, staying pressed to each others sides.

Rylee could feel Sebastian tense up slightly beside her for a brief moment, she almost didn't think it happened. But when he tugged on his cap she thought she might've had a hint, "'Paps' somewhere?" She whispered quietly into his neck.

He simply nodded quickly and almost unnoticeably to their left to let her know their location.

She snuck a peek over his shoulder and there was indeed someone trying to be sly with a camera, though it was embarrassingly obvious.

"Ryles, you okay?" Sebastian asked quietly into her hair as she still leaned into him. He must've felt her tense up, because she didn't even realize she had until he spoke up.

"I am excellent." She smiled at him, relaxing her body, "Honestly. I really don't think anything could bring my night down."

He smiled into her hair, and kissed the top of her head again. "I'm glad."

He loved having her so close, relaxing and melding into the side of his body as they talked and ate together. It helped him relax.

Night had fallen within the next half hour, which eased Sebastian's mind about paparazzi being around since the only light in the area now was from the large screen in front of them. At this point Sebastian had his legs stretched out in front of him, leaning back on the heel of his palm. Rylee had her head laid on his lap, his hands running slowly through her hair.

The movie began and everyone cheered, even Sebastian and Rylee. As soon as the opening credits began a lot of things clicked for Rylee...

1) Sebastian was perfect and so was this night.

2) He had great taste in movies.

3) He absolutely remembered what she thought was their "missed connection" moment from the bar.

"Be My Baby" by the Ronettes began gently playing through their radio as the sharp pink text appeared on the screen overlaid on the people dancing in black and white slow motion.

The night we met I knew I needed you so,

And if I had the chance I'd never let you go.

Dirty Dancing. Dirty. Fucking. Dancing.

She sat up looking quickly at him.

"Yeah, I remember." He stated quietly, before she could say a word. Not that she probably would have been able to anyway as she was still in utter shock.

So won't you say you love me,

I'll make you so proud of me

We'll make em turn their heads every place we go.

He leaned down and gently pressed his lips to hers, as she immediately leaned up into it. It was brief, but wonderful. When they parted all they could do was smile at one another. She slowly laid back down onto his lap and they resumed the position they had taken prior to her epiphany.

Nothing could wipe the smile off her face. Tonight was perfect.

So won't you, please, be my, be my baby.
