《postponing forever》chapter 31

The rest of their stay in Hawaii was as beautiful as the start, they spent plenty of time swimming and relaxing but most of their time was spent in their room. Neither of them wanted the week to ever end but real life waited for them in Boston. They were flying to Roswell briefly to see both sets of parents before continuing on to New York where they would drive most of their staff too Boston.
“I cant believe it’s over already” Finn said.
“I know, but it’s been the best experience of my life” she smiled looking down at the stunning ring on her finger. She still couldn’t believe that she was his fiancée, that eventually they were going to get married and get the happily ever after she had always dreamed of.
“Really?” Finn asked.
“Yep” she replied leaning forward in her seat to give him a kiss. They were already halfway through their flight to Roswell.
“So which set of parents do you want to tell first?” Finn finally asked the question. Since they had gotten engaged they hadn’t told anyone, they hadn’t been in contact with any family or friends since their first night in Hawaii and had decided afterwards that they would wait until they saw them in person to tell them their happy news. They both knew that their friends would be over the moon for them, Maria would start planning a double wedding or something like that, but they would all be stoked for them. It was Rachel's parents that they weren’t sure about.
Finn had confided in Rachel that this time he hadn’t even approached her parents about asking her to marry him, knowing she wouldn’t want that and that this time he wasn’t willing to listen to them tell him no if that’s what they turned out saying.
“I think we should start with yours” Rachel sighed. The Hudson's had always accepted their relationship without any problems so Rachel knew they would be happy for them and offer to do whatever they could. So far Finn and Rachel had decided to hold off for a while until they got married. Since they were both starting new jobs they knew they would be too busy to plan a wedding.
“Ok” Finn smiled. They were only staying in Roswell overnight so their parents couldn’t cause too much grief in that time.
“But we have to face your parents eventually” he told her.
“I know” she sighed taking his welcoming hand in her own.

It came as a surprise to both Finn and Rachel when they found Isabel and Alex waiting for them at the airport.
“Oh my god what are you doing here?” Rachel cried as she rushed into Alex’s arms while Finn hugged his sister.
“We all decided to come to Roswell for the week” Isabel explained.
“Michael and Maria are here too?” Rachel asked excitedly.
“Yeah they’re staying at Maria’s” Alex replied.
“Oh let’s go there first” Rachel said exchanging looks with Finn. They had both wanted to tell their friends first but knew that was going to be hard since they were coming to Roswell first.
“Ok, Maria planned on meeting with you at the Crashdown anyhow” they laughed.
An hour later after chatting with Isabel and Alex about their holiday in the car and Rachel biting her tongue so she didn’t spill their wonderful news they pulled up in front of the Deluca’s. They had called Maria to tell them they would meet up with them their when they left the airport so it wasn’t surprising when they saw Maria come running out of the house when the car pulled up.
“Oh Rachie I missed you” she said.
“Me too” Rachel smiled.
“Let the girl breath, Blondie” Michael joked.
“So how was the holiday?” Maria asked them when they finally made it inside the house, her mum was working so it was just them.
“Fantastic, wonderful” Finn grinned.
“Had the time of my life” Rachel sighed sinking back into Finn's arms.
Their friends smiled at them, they looked so happy and so in love. That’s when Isabel caught the sight of the ring on Rachel's fingers.
“Rachel Berry what the hell is that?” she demanded pointing at her hand.
Rachel grinned “That would be my engagement ring” she answered.
“Your what?” Maria screamed.
Michael and Alex covered their ears while Rachel and Finn laughed.
“it’s an engagement ring, you know what that is Maria it hasn’t been that long since you got yours” Finn joked.
The girls rushed forward then and started grabbing at Rachel's hand.
“Is this the same one?” Isabel asked Finn referring to the ring she had seen, Finn nodded.
“It’s beautiful” they all agreed.
“Yeah it’s perfect” Rachel smiled sappily before turning and sharing a sweet kiss with Finn which made Michael groan.
“Congratulations guys but please stop with the PDA’s” he said.

Rachel laughed “Nope” she shook her head.
“I’m so happy for you guys” a teary Isabel hugged her brother and best friend. “You two deserve it” she told them.
“So when are you going to tell the parentals?” Alex turned the conversation serious.
“Tonight” Finn answered.
“You don’t look happy about it, Rachel” Maria commented.
“I’m dreading it, who knows how my parents will react”
“It doesn’t matter, sweetie” Finn soothed.
They caught up on what was happening with each others lives, briefly discussed Maria and Michael’s plans to get married before Isabel dropped Finn and Rachel at the Crashdown. They had decided to call Finn's parents and ask them to meet them at the Crashdown so they could tell both sets of parents together. Rachel hoped the Hudson's would be happy and that it might rub off on her parents.
Both sets of parents were waiting for them in the now closed Crashdown once they got there.
“You’re here” Dianne Hudson smiled and hopped up to rush towards her son.
“Hey” they greeted.
Rachel walked towards her father and mother and gave them both a hug too.
“How was the holiday?” Jeff asked his daughter.
“Amazing” Rachel sighed.
Finn walked up behind Rachel and wrapped his arms around her then “Thanks for meeting us here” he said to both sets of parents.
“Not problem, was there a particular reason?” Philip asked his son. He had a lot of time for Rachel she had been such a good influence on Finn over the years and was happy to find out that they would be going to Boston together. He didn’t really know what had happened that had stopped them from dating all these years but he was happy that they were now together.
“We wanted to tell you something” Rachel smiled.
“Oh ok, why don’t you sit down” Jeff replied.
“No it’s ok we’ve been sitting for hours” Finn informed them and they remained standing in each others embrace.
“Last week I asked Rachel to marry me and she accepted” Finn told the four parents.
Dianne and Philip looked at Finn shocked “We’re getting married” Rachel confirmed with a huge smile.
“Oh congratulations” Dianne shrieked standing up and pulling them both into her arms. Philip was next, kissing Rachel's cheek and slapping his son on the back, they were so glad that they were getting such a wonderful daughter in law.
“Mum, Dad?” Rachel turned to her parents then. Her father had tears in his eyes but there was a small smile there.
“I’m so happy for you honey” he told her before standing up and hugging her. When he pulled away and turned to Finn offering his hand “Welcome to the family” he smiled.
“Thanks Mr. Berry” Finn grinned back, he was so relieved for Rachel that her father was happy for them.
“It’s Jeff, Finn” he told him.
“Wow my baby girl is getting married” Nancy whispered from her seat in the booth.
“Yeah” Rachel replied biting her lower lip and waiting for her mother to finally say something else.
“This isn’t what I wanted for you Rachel but I can see you’ve already made your decision so I’ll accept it” she said.
No hug, no congratulations, nothing. Rachel could feel the tears beginning to form in her eyes.
“We’re both really happy” she said.
Nancy nodded and then quickly standing up she took her daughter into her arms “That’s all I’ve ever wanted honey” she whispered.
When they pulled apart Nancy smiled at Finn “Look after her, Finn” she told him
“Of course Mrs. Berry, I love her” Finn told her. He knew the truth about his feelings didn’t make a difference to Nancy Berry but for the first time in years he actually saw a glimpse of the women that was Rachel's mother. There was an underlying hurt in her eyes something he suspected that even Rachel hadn’t realized and knew that Nancy’s insistence that Rachel not marry him was not about him or Rachel, it was about her.
“so any idea when you would like to get married?” Dianne asked them then.
“We thought we would hold for a little while until we get settled in Boston” Finn informed his mother.
“Oh you want to get married in Boston?” Nancy asked confused.
“No we will get married here in Roswell we just realise that with both of us starting new jobs we wont really have the time for a little while to plan a wedding” Rachel explained.
“well honey your mother and I can take care of that” Dianne suggested.
Rachel bit her bottom lip in thought and shared a look with Finn that to her parents didn’t mean anything but to Finn and Rachel it meant a thousand words.
“Are you sure?” Rachel asked. She really wanted to marry Finn soon, she didn’t want to wait any longer.
“Of course” her mother said excitedly.
“Well I’d really like a Christmas wedding what do you think, Finn?” Rachel turned to her fiancée.
“It sounds perfect, sweetie. Whatever you want” he told her placing a chaste kiss on the top of her head.
“Well looks like it’s Christmas” Philip grinned.
“Yes” Finn and Rachel smiled. They were getting married!!
