Chapter 13 - Meeting Drake
Hayden was really stupid to come in here at one in the morning. Apparently, he thought that the little 'incident' that happened downstairs was done just out of anger and, as he put it, I didn't mean to do or say any of it. Well, he thought wrong because now he's downstairs either in another room or on the couch (not that I care).
Well, now I was lying on the bed staring at the ceiling trying to fall asleep. I guess by now you figured out I'm failing miserably. I sighed and looked at the digital clock on the drawer then groaned when I saw it was two thirty-four. Great, I've been awake for over an hour and a half. I grunted and got up off the bed, heading for the restroom.
After I washed my face I was fully awake. My wolf has been nagging me to release her; to release the anger (well slight anger since she can't stay mad at himfor too long...) so I was planning to go for a run. Before I had twisted the knob to open the door, I remember that Hayden was just downstairs, so I tried the second best option...the window. It wasn't a far jump and before I knew it, I was running pass the trees, now far away from the house. From Hayden.
.........................................................................................................
I don't know how long I had been running for but somehow I had found the highway. I shifted back and put on the yellow T-shirt and black ripped jeans I carried in my mouth. And before you all ask, yes I remembered to carry shoes with me (rolls my eyes).
After I got dressed, I walked over to the nearest Starbucks. When I got in, I was surprised to see exactly four people in the shop. Not surprising at this time of night...well, morning technically. I went up to the cashier and ordered a Vanilla Latte.

When I got that, I went to a table and started my drink. I tried to reason out what I would be doing if Hayden and his gang didn't catch me, but somehow I couldn't. I sighed and looked down at my drink. Do I even like him? I mean, it's Hayden Pierce for crying out loud. The (so-called) baddest Alpha of the U.S. and I started to re-run the few hours that I had with him 'yesterday'. I had to chuckle when I remembered I slapped him in the face...and pretty hard too.
"Hey, what's a pretty girl like you doing here at three in the morning?" a voice in front of me asked shaking me out of my thoughts. The guy in front of me was dressed in full black attire. A black T-shirt that said 'I Wanna Start A Fight' written in white, black ripped jeans and black sneakers.
"Finished checking me out?" the voice said again bringing me back to his face. Of course, he was already smirking. Didn't take a genius to know that...
"Who said anything about me checking you out?" I responded with a shrug. He laughed and took a seat in the empty chair in front of me.
"So, you haven't answered me yet. What are you doing here..." he said then trailed off.
"Zara, the name's Zara and how do I know I can trust you?"
"Cool name by the way and to answer your question," he paused as he leaned in, "you don't." The mischievous glint in his eyes made me smile.
"Well, in that case, I'm on a top secret mission to rob the owner of this store," I grinned. He shook his head in amusement and pretended to sigh in relief.

"Oh, and here I thought you were gonna plan to kill the president of the United States," he said then swatted away the imaginary sweat from his forehead. I laughed at him, so head I almost fell out of my seat.
"Whoa, careful now...let's not get carried away," he said rushing to my aid before I fell. I smiled a thank you at him and sat firmly in my seat. I even had to wipe the tears from my eyes due to how hard I was laughing.
"You're a funny dude, what's your name?" I asked taking a sip of my latte.
"Oh. but if I tell you I might just have to kill you," he said smirking. I rolled my eyes and took another sip of my latte.
"I think it's worth the risk," I said and got up to throw away my cup then came back to sit down. He rolled his eyes at me.
"The name's Drake, I'm the beta of the Redwood Pack," he said. I raised my eyebrow curiously.
"Redwood Pack? Do you know Bryon?"
"Yeah, I do...well obviously I would know him. He's my..uhh..Alpha," he answered in a 'duh' tone. I chuckled and leaned over the table to flick him on the forehead.
"Don't you 'duh' me," I playfully scolded at him which he rolled his eyes to.
"I didn't 'duh' you; I said it in a 'duh' tone. There's a difference," he said and then stood up, "anyway, I gotta head back over. You're Hayden's mate, right?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Well, I'll probably come by later in the week or next week, either one," he said then pulled out his wallet and put a five dollar bill on the table. I started to protest but he said it as his treat.
"See, you later, Zara," he said and then shoved his hand out, "nice meeting you, by the way." I put my hand in his and he brought it up to his lips and kissed it. He said 'later' once more and winked at me because of my stunned expression. Then he left through the front door.
"Hmm, it was nice meeting you too, Drake," I muttered to myself. Nice meeting you too...

Recruit - An Infinite Labyrinth prequel
A prequel to The Infinite Labyrinth. The year is 1816. The British Empire is in full swing, under the auspices of King George III. The Infinite Labyrinth has been pouring out its product from beyond our reality and fostered a new industrial revolution. Times are changing, and the people of London are feeling the winds of the revolution while British Professionals push into the Labyrinth. The newly formed Artefact Hunting Company is looking for recruits, and they have new technology to help them. From the slums of London, they aim to recruit a new wave of Professionals. And make Zacharias and the Earl of Carnavon lots of money. So, for Rowan Rivers and a handful of lucky ones, it's time to head into the Labyrinth, and discover what makes it different from England. And what makes THEM different? Recruit is a bunch of chapters I wrote to create to the setting, mood, and game systems of the Infinite Labyrinth. It is NOT a complete story in the classic sense. It's more of a slice of life view of early days of a normal Professional from the Infinite Labyrinth, and it's heavy on info-dump. It's 90% canon - there's probably a bit of a difference between how some characters and common behaviour are portrayed here and how they'll come out in the main story. Set two years before the events that kick-start the main series, it features some of the secondary/peripheral characters of the Infinite Labyrinth and will tell you all about the basic mechanics of the Labyrinth's RPG system. It can be considered a spoiler, as the characters in the Infinite Labyrinth are going to need to figure out all that, on their own. But if you like a much deeper exposition in the mechanics, here it is. The entire prequel is about 80 pages long.
