《Protected by BTS》Chapter 31: Cold Sleep

The man screamed and let go of you as you both free fell off the dock. You could feel the tensing sensation in your stomach as you fell from an enormous height. You shivered and for a few seconds accepted death until you hit the freezing waters.
You fell a couple of feet below the surface. You kicked your legs like a propeller, forcing them to work in order to stay alive. Once breaking the water's surface you gasped and coughed up the water you had in your mouth. Despite being able to swim, your hands were still tied.
Your legs were not enough to keep you afloat.
The man who had fell with you was also trying to gasp for air after surfacing. The cold water was the least of your problems as the waves kept colliding with your face. You couldn't keep up and hopelessly attempted to stay above the water.
The tumultuous waves continuously tried to drown you and you knew you wouldn't be able to last much longer. If that wasn't your only problem, the man had found you.
"You stupid bitch!" He yelled and swam over to you. This man was enraged and wanted nothing more to drown you right here right now. He swam over to you and pushed your head into the water.
You gasped for air before your body was engulfed by the sea. It was too dark to see anything below the water and you blindly thrashed around, hoping to get another gasp of air.
From below, you could hear the echoing of waves crashing and the man's voice, which you believed to still be cursing you out. You were running out of oxygen and the cold water was starting to limit your movement. You were freezing and at this point was ready to drown. His death grip on your shoulders didn't let up and you saw no other options.
After a few more agonizing seconds, your limbs started to slowly stop fighting. The water was filling your lungs and it was your time.
Miraculously, a hand pulled you by the arm and you were lifted up to the surface. Was he not trying to kill me anymore. You were brought above surface and you gasped for air. You coughed a fit of water and it was useless as another wave of water hit your face. You were drowning again. Kicking your legs could only do so much, but without full motion of both of your arms, you didn't think you were going to last.

You frantically searched around, in hopes that your attacker could help you once again. But you saw nothing. Where had the man gone?
It was as if he disappeared.
The crashing waves didn't give you any help as to see where his body went. You gave up searching and focused on staying afloat. It became harder and harder as you were growing tired and cold. The vicious waves gave you no break as you started drowning, unable to stay on the surface long enough. You felt like a toddler in the deep end, unable to properly swim.
You were under the water longer than you were on the surface. Your legs grew fatigued and you could not breathe anymore. The sea water filled your lungs and you succumbed to the cold sleep.
~~~
The men on the edge of the dock watched in horror as the girl they were supposed to capture and their buddy had fallen off the side. Both of them landed with two small splashes. The men were shocked and waited to see if they could tell if you guys had lived.
"Do you think they're dead?" A gruff voice asked in the small group.
Before any of the other men could answer him, an unknown voice from the shadows retorted. "No, but you certainly are." The group did not recognize the voice and instantly turned around.
A gun shot ripped through the air and hit the man who had initially asked the question. The guarding men took their stances. "Intruders!" A man shouted and rolled to take cover.
Shots were exchanged back and forth between the guard men and an unknown group hiding between the cargo crates. The unknown, offensive group spoke through their earpieces, "I want these jerks alive, understand." Namjoon ordered. The rest of the boys, scattered throughout the shipping yard, affirmed the order.
"I think I saw MiSun-ah fall over the edge!" Yoongi informed the group, holding down the earpiece to relay the message, and then returning to shoot back at the men nearest to him.
Gunfire erupted back and forth from each side. Before Namjoon could say anything, Jungkook took off running to the side. "I'm on it." He ripped off his jean jacket and threw it to the side. It would only slow him down. He ran at full speed to where you and the man had fallen over.
None of the enemy dared to shoot at him. If he was jumping, he was a lost cause anyways.
Jungkook leaped over the edge and scanned the water as he flew gracefully in the air. Within seconds, he was in the water with a small splash, and surfaced for air. While gasping for breath, he could hear the distant shouting of a man.
"Stupid, whore! You're going to pay for that!" Jungkook could see the shouting man fighting something under the water. "Just die, you little runt!" He continued to push something into the water and Jungkook had assumed it to be you. Fortunately, the commotion and his yelling didn't bring any attention to Jungkook. He used this to swim up to him quietly and save you.
As the man continued to scream profanities at your drowning body, Jungkook hooked and arm around his neck and forced him to release you. Jungkook used his free arm to pull you above the surface.
He was relieved when he saw your head resurface and cough out water. But he had other problems as the man fought back. "Who the hell-?" The man's sentence was cut off as Jungkook pushed him below the water.
Jungkook was also pulled under as they fought beneath the surface. They interchanged kicks and draggings even further below the surface. Jungkook kicked his foot out and incapacitated the man for a second. He went up for another quick breath of air and went under once more. Making contact with your attacker, he did not allow the man to come up for air.
The man thrashed about, trying to blindly fight Jungkook, but Jungkook kept him in a headlock beneath the surface. He knew he had more oxygen than him, so all Jungkook had to do was wait him out. He had small bursts of energy here and there, trying to break free of his grasp.
Jungkook tightened his grip, needing him to stop struggling already. Slowly, the man's efforts had stopped and Jungkook knew he was dead. He let go and watched as his body floated downward and into the deeper water with no more oxygen to keep him afloat.
Jungkook surfaces once again, taking in gasps of breath, to see a drowning figure not too far from him. It was you. And you had suddenly stopped moving, leaving small bubbles on the surface from the oxygen you had left. You started to fall deeper into the water, your hands floating upward as you too drowned.
He swam to your location and roughly wrapped his arms around your limp torso. Swimming back up, he didn't waste any time. About a hundred feet to the west, the water met small jagged rocks. If he could swim there, he could get both of you out of the water. Jungkook held your body close as his arm was still wrapped around your upper body. He used his free arm and legs to swim as fast as he could.
The freezing waters were starting to get to him. His lips started to tremble and his teeth started to chatter. The waves and wind were not helping him at all, as he constantly checked if you were still above surface.
He was so close and Jungkook made internal promises to himself that he would practice swimming more if he could get to land already.
Within a few minutes of swimming and the help of the waves crashing on land, he had hauled your body to lay on solid ground. He crawled on all fours next to you, trying to control his breathing. He felt as if he had just run a marathon. Jumping from that height, fighting off that man, and saving you really did a number on his body.
Once he felt as if he had his breathing under control, he dragged your body further away from the water. The hypothermia was setting in but he needed to make sure you were breathing. He placed two fingers on your carotid artery and watched your chest for any sign of breathing.
No pulse. Not breathing.
