AMELIA'S P.O.V
"No."
He was looking right at me. His eyes blazed with an emotion I couldn't fathom.
"Please don't pass." I pleaded looking at Alarick.
"What?" He frowned at me. Confusion swirling in his eyes.
"Don't pass. Get me out of here please." My grip tightened on his shirt and a tear slipped down my cheek.
He sensed the tension building up and holding my hand he lead me out of the hall despite all those awkward looks people were giving us.
Once out of the hall, he led me to the backyard. There was dark and no one was here. I knew I was running. Running from him. Running from my past. But that was all I could do. I was strong. I wasn't weak. But sometimes you don't want to be strong. It happens when you are tired of being strong all the time. Sometimes you want to rely on others to save you, to take you far away from all the nightmares haunting you. And that feels good.
"What's your problem?" He was annoyed.
I inhaled deeply controlling my senses.
"I want to go back to the hotel." I said in a low voice.
"We can't-"
"Please." I pleaded and he took few minutes before nodding and heading towards the car with me following him.

I gaped at the buildings as they passed. This was the way. I was too familiar with this.
"Please take a right turn from here." I said to the driver leaning forward and he nodded as he took the turn. This is now or never.
I don't know something somewhere inside me is urging me to spill everything to Alarick. He would protect me. My heart is shouting at me. There's no one except him. I know he's the one who's going to take me away from my nightmares.

"What? Why?" Alarick asked from behind. I looked back and just smiled.
"Go straight and take a left turn." I guided further.
"What are you doing?" He asked grabbing my arm and turning me to face him.
"There's something I need to get back. I don't know if we ever come back here again." I answered.
He just rolled his eyes. He was too tired to argue.
"Here. Stop here." I said looking out. The car stopped and I got out. There were woods all around the narrow road.
I heard the door close and turned around to see Alarick wearing his suit jacket. I began walking towards the woods. The long gown and heels were making it difficult to walk but I didn't stop.
"Where do you think you're going?" He asked finally looking at me.
I just glanced at him and continued my walk. I could hear the soft footsteps behind me and a few grunts with snapping of little twigs. He was following me.
I felt the cool breeze on my bare arms. I was now badly regretting not bringing my jacket here. We were now deep into the woods. I was too familiar with this place that I didn't have to think twice before choosing my way.
"Are you going to tell me where we are going?!" He yelled.
"Nope." I answered straight.
"Wait."
"Nope." I kept walking.
"I am going back." I heard his footsteps halting.
"As you wish!"
I could still hear his footsteps following me. A small smile made its way on my lips.
He isn't that bad.
I saw the clear lake in front me and I halted in my steps. Inhaling in deeply, I sighed.
"I love this place." I said looking at the lake. The moon was spreading its beautiful white light on the lake water as white silk.

I felt presence behind me and tilted my head to see Alarick looking at the lake too. A very unfamiliar look passed through his eyes and I frowned.
I cleared my throat and his head snapped towards me.
"What?" he asked shrugging.
"You know it's cold." I said pointing out the obvious.
He frowned but then raised his eyebrows realizing what I was saying. He shook his head and removed his suit jacket. Exhaling audibly, he moved behind me and placed the jacket on my shoulders.
"Chivalry isn't dead...yet." I said smiling.
"What do you want from here?" He asked averting his gaze back to the lake.
I looked at the huge oak tree behind him and walked towards it. There were three sticks poking out of the ground.
I kneeled down beside them and stuck them out. Alarick was beside me watching intently.
I began digging in. Alarick was going to help when I stopped him,
"Let me do it myself."
He hesitated for a moment but nodded and backed off. He was dangerously calm today. I've never seen him like this. His gaze was even soft today.
I halted in my movements when I saw the small red box. I quickly took it out. My hands were all covered in damp soil and so does the box giving it a brownish look.
I opened the box and instantly tears began pricking behind my eyes.
"Money?" Alarick asked looking at the crumpled bills inside the box.
"It's not only money." I breathed out and removed the bills revealing a beautiful sapphire necklace lying there, "It's the only thing my mom left for me." I took the necklace in my hands as the tear trickled down my cheek, "I don't know why I am doing this but I want to. Will you judge me if I tell you something?"
He looked into my eyes for a while and then shook his head.
"My mom gave this necklace to me on my sixteenth birthday." I gritted my teeth and continued," When she died, my dad forced me to work. He would take all the money I earned. I began hiding some here in this box so when Madeleine needed anything I would get her."
Alarick didn't interrupt me. He was listening to me intently. I sat down resting my back against the tree.
I continued, "T-Then one day dad asked me to bring this necklace. I did. He said he would pay off the money he lost to Mr. Steele in the bet with it. I became horrid. I begged him to give the necklace back and he agreed but,"
I paused. All the terrible memories came back crashing on me. Tears were falling uncontrollably from my eyes but I wasn't feeling any pain. I wasn't feeling anything. I just wanted to let it out. I don't care if it's my boss or not. I just know that he is the person who is listening to me and will jot judge me with what I did in my past but he would protect me.
"But?" he asked as he sat beside me.
"But he demanded something in return." I said looking at the lake.
"What?" He asked as I closed my eyes.
"A night with Mr. Steele."
