Note:
This chapter contains vulgar language and slight gore, be prepared!
In the last chapter (Chapter 83, Which way to go) You could choose whether to turn one way back to the door or another way. If you didn't choose just yet then go back to chapter 83 and choose.
If you did pick your decision then consider all of the above not written and go on with the story!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shit (Y/N) dig, dig deeper into your mind than you had ever done before! You had walked to this room, you had made the same turns and angles twice now. Even if you wouldn't remember everything, at least something familiar had to pop up!
Your mind was still a little bit blurry and the adrenaline coursing through your veins made you anxious to move.
A memory filled your mind once again, one you had wished you had remembered before.
~~
What if someone would hear you? Lurking around again? How would you get back to the basement and out of this maze? You hoped you wouldn't be alone, but a thought told you that you should let your hope go. If so then you had no time to lose.
You needed to remember the way this time, so that you could get out of here easily, quietly and above all without being chased. Alright he's going:
Left, right, left, left, right, straightforward, left, right, straightforward, right, right, left, left.
~~
You could jump in pure joy at this recollection, being filled with warmth as something finally seemed to go your way. That's it! That is exactly the way you should be walking, it is the exact way you came to this room... You couldn't believe that you had remembered it, couldn't believe that you had managed to recall something so vague and buried so deep.
However, one crucial point was missing, one you had almost overlooked entirely. You began to think, feeling that something was off.
That is indeed the right way....
But it is the way you came to this room.
It is not the way to get back to the room and you knew it. You had almost made that mistake out of sheer excitement. But that didn't matter much, you know now.
Since you know the way towards this room and corridor... You would know the road back towards the door by backtracking, by switching the rights to lefts and the lefts to rights...
So that left...
Right, right, left, left, straightforward, left, right, straightforward, left, right, right, left, right.
You could doubt your mind for remembering it for this long, for subconsciously packing this information away until absolutely needed...
But doubting this wouldn't do any good either. It was just like the code, you felt something good about it. You felt that something was right, that your subconscious was telling you exactly what you needed right now.
You shouldn't think more to it than this. The danger of being sucked into this negative spiral of doubt was constantly poking its head around the corner and you needed to cut the rope quickly.
Okay... So... Right, right, left, left, straightforward, left, right, straightforward, left, right, right, left, right was it?
Your wide eyes turned towards the side. You took a deep breath, trying to calm your heart as your brain needed as much blood and oxygen as it could get. You were going to get out of this mess, you would get out of this eternal pit of agony for the last time.
You now glanced at the room next to you before you turned your body towards the dark, empty corridor ahead. The only thing you were sure of, was that the door was on your left side when you had entered this room the very first time.
When you had first been asked about the code and began figuring out what Lola's father had put you through.
Now you were sure you knew most of the truth about the whole project, yet everything around it had changed drastically.
But that was a thought for later on.
The darkness caressed your skin, the coldness of the concrete floor had numbed your toes and feet. Your fingers were sticky and extremely cold as well. This whole corridor had given you the chills the first, second and now last time you had been in it.
You decided not to wait any longer. You had wasted precious time and this maze terrified you to the core. You began walking cautiously, just like how you had entered it. You wanted to run, shoot through every corridor until the sweet relief of the big, heavy door came in sight.
But that wouldn't be such a smart idea.
You were close... so fucking close to safety now. You couldn't afford to screw up.
You had a promise to keep.
You stopped at the first split, taking in every detail and listening for anything that could alert you of someone near you. Silence filled your very being and the division looked the same as any other you had come across.
Right, was it?
You turned right, straight into an equally dark corridor. The doors looked the same, the walls looked the same, the floor looked the same... There was nothing that made this corridor stand out from all the others.
Maybe you should leave a special blood trail? Just like Hansel and Gretel did with their small stones... No, you weren't going to return to this underworld ever again. There was no need for precaution. The next time you would enter here you'd be dead. Taunting faith more than you already had was never a thrilling idea.
Right again?
You quickly took a glance in the other direction. Your doubt slowly consuming your mind as it tried to play tricks on your vision and brain. Did you just see something recognizable? NO! Don't give in just keep walking.
You bit your lip, clenching the key tighter to your chest as you closed your eyes for a brief moment. You shouldn't investigate other corridors until completely necessary. You shouldn't fill your own mind with such doubt.
Left now.
You stopped for a brief moment, ears peaking in interest at a sound which was heard from far away. It sounded like... Someone was hitting a pipe with another pipe? The sound slowly echoed away and a few seconds later you allowed yourself to breathe.
You had to keep going.
You began walking a little quicker and even more silent. Your feet tapping ever so lightly on the cold concrete floor.
You saw a bifurcation nearing, knowing fully well that you had to go left... However, another sound made you immediately stop walking again, glancing around in a futile attempt to see the cause of the noise. What was it? Was it that pipe again?
It was low... And then a little higher again.
It were... Voices.
And the voices were coming closer and closer.
You frantically searched around for anything to hide in, for anything to keep you at least sheltered for whomever was coming your way. You had no idea if they were even coming your way, or if they were merely close, but you couldn't take any risks now.
Your eyes rested on an open door, near the bifurcation. You quickly shot over towards the opening, slipping in the room but not before you gave a quick glance inside. How ironic it would be if you'd walk straight into a murderous dinner party.
The room was completely dark and empty, except for a few tables and cabinets. You opened one of the small cabinets near the corner, sneaking inside the wooden space and closing the door. You were sitting on several tools and by the stinging sensation felt at your rear you knew they were sharp.
You listened carefully, wondering if the voices were coming closer, fading away or staying at the same range. The sound seemed to get nearer, and the conversation was almost followable. Their footsteps echoed loudly through the cold hallways of the maze and each step was felt through your whole body.
Your heart was the only thing noticeable in this dark room, aside from a few, short and raspy breaths. A lone drop of sweat rolled of your forehead, even though you were far from feeling hot. Your hands were sticky, and your body began to prepare for another chase through the maze.
"We haven't found the exact location yet, but we're close." A high yet manly voice spoke. You didn't recognize it and you sure as hell didn't want to find out who it belonged to. Trying to stay as silent as possible you continued listening.
"And what exactly will you do once you've found it? It's not like you can get in, can you?" A deep, darker voice spoke. Once more, it wasn't one that could be described as familiar in your mind. Then again you knew how big this mansion actually was. How many monsters would be residing in it and calling this place home?
"Don't be such a dimwit. We're close to the code and key. Give us a few days and then we can feast on their rotten and bloodied corpses." The gears in your mind turned furiously as a picture of a key was flashing before your eyes.
Subconsciously you squeezed your hand tighter around the key, feeling suddenly aware of the immense power in your hands. You held it close to your chest, hoping the beating organ could protect it from all the harm it could bring.
"I hope you're right." The voices started to fade slowly, just like their continuous footsteps were. You began to breathe a little more comfortable now, still listening for any other sound. Their vibrations were felt long after their voices had gone silent and you had to be absolutely sure no one was there before you would leave.
Letting out a soft sigh you swallowed the remaining saliva in your gullet. It seemed safe now, but for how long? You needed to get out of here quickly before you would encounter anyone else without the luck to hide.
You slowly opened the cabinet door, peeking into the room to make sure it was absolutely safe. You then crawled out of the wooden hiding place, standing up and looking through the door frame, into the corridor.
You had no time to lose, they could be near.
You tiptoed over to the door, glancing into the corridor carefully. It seemed quite empty for as far as you could see. There were no voices or other unexplainable sounds heard... Nothing that could note you of the dangers lurking in one of these corridors...
You silently slipped out of the room, glancing at the split at the end of the corridor... Where were you?
Oh yeah, left was it?
Whilst you turned into another dark, creepy and cold hallway you noticed you were walking a little quicker. You didn't dare run, afraid that the sound might alert killers near you. You needed to focus, listening intently to any sound and wage every dangerous situation carefully.
Yet you couldn't help but to think of what those two... Monsters had said. They were talking about the key... Your key. The object you were holding in your hand right now. The most dangerous and powerful weapon against them...
How ironic it actually was that this same key... The one the were desperately looking for... Was under their roof all along. Of course, you didn't know for certain if it was the right one... But something inside knew exactly that it was.
Was it really true?
Did they really have an arsenal?
It wasn't of importance right now. Thinking about it wouldn't make it true or false. It didn't matter anyway, you did have the key to it... Yet the two-worded code had been completely lost and figuring that one out wouldn't be as easy as the code from the blueprint...
Straightforward now...
No. You couldn't afford to get distracted, you couldn't afford to let your mind slip away even further. You needed to focus, you needed to get out of this maze alive and use the key as a last resort to free your friends.
It was your and their only hope.
Left.
Was it left again? You had no idea if it was right, if you were just feeling things because you so desperately wanted to be on the correct path... But you'd be damned if you didn't feel that it was getting warmer, more comfortable... Safer?
You knew you weren't even remotely close, but the feeling... That slight ray of hope at the end of the tunnel filled you with power.
Right.
Your ears were still peaked in utter concentration, eyes scanning every detail of the corridor the best you could. It was still as dark as before, but your eyes had grown more accustomed to it. At least, that is what your mind made you think.
Straightforward.
You began to feel a little nervous as you recalled the turns in your head. How many did you pass? Did you turn left too early? Or maybe you should've turn- God damnit! You shouldn't doubt yourself like that!
Right, right, left, left, straightforward, left, right, straightforward, left, right, right, left, right.
It was right, right, left, left, straightforward, left, right, straightforward, left, right, right, left, right!
Remember it. Remember it damn well.
So now you had to turn...
Left.
You could see the upcoming split already, indicating you that you had to choose yet again. You knew you were near... You felt you were near. Squeezing the small key slightly you began to feel a little damp. Anxious for what you would or would not find in this maze of depravity.
Right.
You jumped up when you heard a sound close to you. An incredible loud and heavy bang probably a few corridors away. Out of a reflex you turned, glancing into the darkness with ultimate concentration.
You saw nothing.
Deciding it was best to hurry up you began to walk even faster, almost to the point you were running. You were close now, only a few turns left and then you would see the door. You had to keep going and you had to be quick about it.
Your eyes scanned every corridor carefully, preparing to see someone or something lurking in the dark, ready to attack. Your feet were tapping ever so lightly against the hard concrete, but you knew it was sufficient sound to alert someone close of your presence.
Right.
Your walking turned into running completely as you were blinded by the sweet relief of safety and freedom... For as far as it could. Anything to get out of this hellhole.
You almost tripped over your own feet, your left slipping away on something smarmy. You snorted, cringing in disgust as you had managed to regain your balance and keep running. No time to wipe it away, you had to keep going.
Left.
Just one turn left, just one corridor away from the known and less dangerous surrounding. The metal door which would lead you back to your safe haven, back to Jeff. Even though that wasn't exactly safe considering you had lied, ran away again and did literally everything he forbid you to do.
Ah...
The end of the corridor came in sight and you ran even harder, even quicker. It felt as if you were flying over the floor, as if you weren't even touching the cold below you. You didn't think of the big chance that you had chosen the wrong turn... That you had messed up and got lost again.
That you made one slight mistake which would be the cause of your demise. And with that the cause of your friends' deaths.
This is it...
Right.
The darkness made it impossible to see the end of the corridor. You felt anxious, determined and relieved at the same time. What if the door wasn't there? What if you were running, the darkness ebbing away and making place for another... No! Don't think, just do!
The shadows began to fade slowly, little illumination in the corridor gave you enough light to see the one thing you wanted to see. To see the one door straight to freedom... The one thing which could rip you away from that reoccurring nightmare with a good ending this time.
You saw the metal door.
You had chosen right.
You were safe.
You could cry, scream and yell out of relief. The stress and anxiety from before leaving your skin as you were on cloud nine. A pure feeling of ecstasy entered your mind and you continued to speed towards the door.
The cool metal felt like an angel caressing your skin and the reoccurring doubt from before flushed through your toes into the ground. You knew it, you fucking knew it!
You had trusted your mind, and this is what happened because of that.
You quickly opened the door, not regarding the fact that someone might be standing on the other end of it. You'd take it, you'd take every setback right now. It felt as if you were invincible, untouchable even though this was far from true.
You slipped right through, silently thanking that it was still unlocked.
You didn't even look back as you bolted through the small corridor, the only thing on your mind being the key, code and the safety of Jeff's room. You didn't think about the consequences...
You didn't think of the abuse Jeff would put you through...
In your hand was the most powerful weapon of all right now and you were sure as hell to use it. Flashes of Sandy entered your mind each time you squeezed the key. She was the reason you knew, she was the reason you could save yourself and your friends.
Come on (Y/N), don't let them down now. Each second you would stay in this corridor longer than necessary would lead to a killer being able to come in and catch you.
You flew up the stairs, opening the small, wooden door quickly and swiftly. Knowing the dangers beforehand you turned towards the old door at the end of the corridor. It had to be empty... It had always been empty.
Once through the entryway you climbed the stairs erratically. You could feel how close you were, you could feel your whole body tingling with a sensation that could only be described as euphoric. Your feet slipped, body falling forward before you could catch yourself with your good hand.
You were extremely careful not to let the key slip out of it, keeping your fist clenched painfully tight. Sandy had died giving you the information you needed, she had given up her life for this fucking key. Your mind and physique came to a halt for a second, eyes turning back into your skull as Sandy's dying words rung through your mind.
~~
"Be... Good." You only shook your head at her words. You couldn't be good anymore. You were so damaged that it would impossible. You couldn't play by the rules. You couldn't hang on. You just couldn't live on without them...
~~
"Be good" you whispered subconsciously. If this wasn't 'being good' then you had no idea what could be. You were wheezing loudly, the saliva shamelessly dripping from your mouth onto the steps like a hungry animal.
You wobbled back onto your feet, completely engulfed into your own mind to even think about the possible danger. You began running up the stairs again, blinded by the sheer feeling of relief that his presence would give you.
You could almost smell the bliss and security of his room.
You stormed through the door at the top of the stairs, eyes frantically fixed on the only door that mattered, on the only door you knew so damn well. Regaining the last of your used power you sprinted towards it, hand outstretched and one mere word ringing through your brain over and over again.
Be good.
Monsters, gold, chaos, glory, adventure, what more could attract two of the greatest players of all time to Sugarea, the most popular MMORPG of its time. But everyone makes errors, and unfortunate for these two brilliant players, they have made the grave mistake of not actually sleeping like normal humans and missed out on the very moment the new Dark Legion update would take effect. Or did they? They wake in what seems familiar yet not, but they soon realize their predicament. They are inside their game avatar's bodies! A half-Demon and a Dragonoid are now struggling with more than just power, these two men have to find their new purpose and calling in a completely different world. Will they concur it like ordinary land or will they enlighten the planet into equality? Do figures pull strings in the dark or is everything open to the public eye? Nothing is certain except the unknown, and nothing is ever as it seems... This is an Isekai story, as such, some parts may sound either cliché or similar to others, but I assure you, I tried to prevent that. To make it known, I took quite a lot of inspiration from the light novel/anime Overlord, but that doesn't mean it's a direct rip-off of it. You'll find there to be quite the amount of differences. Just a little heads up as well, you should expect irregular uploads, as it takes me a long time to write each chapter. I am currently trying for once every other week on Sundays around 10:00 A.M. Chapters are usually 7k words and up, with the longest (chapter 3) being 10.3k words. So, if you like to sit down and read a long chapter every two weeks at 10:00 A.M. EST on Sundays, then you can waste your time here! Small disclaimer: Profanity is far and few between, and mostly used by side characters, rarely the main character. When something with gore happens, I describe to the best of my ability, which will only get better the longer I write this... :) Small cuts between perspectives happen, and can hide what some characters do, which will be revealed in future chapters, I'm not that lazy... all the time... There are some parts that are long blocks of text, most, if not all, of them, are characters talking, but I try not to info dump. I know one of the tags says "Psychological", and for the most part, it is, but it's not as prominent as other stories, instead, it's more hidden and scattered, but I did try to make the pieces I did reveal all fit together. Cover art is bound to be changed when I have a good picture to use, so the Yin-Yang is a placeholder for now unless yall wanna gimme something to use *wink wink nudge nudge*. So yeah, please give it a try, as I have nothing better to do with my life, and I am banking solely off of a career in literature and am hoping that I can create a story that can actually be called something more than a child's imagination running wild. The eventual and inevitable end to the story won't be for a long while, at least till chapter 40 or so. I have thought long and hard about the message and themes at play, so I hope you, the reader (who has some amazing hair btw), can enjoy and partake on this adventure with me into my dark empty pit of an imagination.
When Lidiyana awoke, she wasn't alone. Instead, she returned to the world with Gareth - a man who tended to her after a horrific accident left her in a coma. He's strange, but also kind in his own way, helping her regain her memories and teaching her about their former relationship. However, as Lidiyana learns more about the world around her, things may not exactly be as they seem. Stitches is a fantasy web serial focusing on interpersonal drama, surreal horror and adventure. As a forewarning, it should be noted that Stitches is not for all audiences, as it heavily features various horror elements including some gore and body horror alongside minor elements of sexuality, nudity, drinking, etc. I know there are content warnings, but I did want to clarify exactly what's going on here. Stitches should update every Friday, barring exceptional circumstances.
