Note:
This chapter contains vulgar language and slight gore, Be prepared!
Also in the chapter 51 (Which way to go) you could choose whether to go right or to go left. If you didn't choose just yet then go back to chapter 51 and choose. If you did choose, then consider all of the above not written.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You decided to just go to the left. Even though there are more trees there and the chance of getting back to the mansion was bigger, you knew that this would be the right path to choose. If you get enough distance from the wolves you might be able to climb in a tree.
You shot deeper into the woods, the hungry wolves still growling loudly at you as you kept running for your life. Why did this have to happen? You were so fucking close to freedom and then there's this stupid pack of wolves which had to ruin it all.
You knew that these woods would be filled with the unknown. You had heard the chilling howls before, when you were walking towards your own home to retrieve the box. You wondered why they didn't attack you then but it was probably because of the killers which were with you.
You shook your head mentally in order to get your concentration back to where it should be. You were being chased by hungry wolves; you needed all of your energy to just go and run like hell! You jumped over stray logs, avoided low hanging branches and ignored the pain.
You needed to get away from them, you needed to find a safe spot and then continue on your journey towards freedom. Gathering the courage you quickly peeked over your shoulder and into the darkness. The wolves were nowhere to be seen, yet you knew that outrunning them was impossible.
You could get some distance but those creatures are faster... Well maybe these weird, red-eyed mutated ones not but then they'll surely be a lot stronger. This was your chance right now, it was now or never. You needed to find a good tree to climb and you needed to do it quickly.
Scanning the area while still running you tried to search for a tree with low hanging, strong branches. You needed to get as high as possible in order to escape them. Be quick, because you weren't going to last any longer.
Your gaze focused on a tree further ahead. It had low hanging branches and it was big. It had to do, you had no time left. Gathering the last of your power you took a sprint towards the tree, completely ignoring the fact that those wolves could get to you any second now.
You ran right at the tree, holding your good hand out in order to grab the highest branch it could reach. You didn't slow down, you used this speed to take off of the ground and free run on the tree in order to get as high as possible.
Once you had reached the tree you took off, nearly jumping on the wood before your hand had secured itself on one of the branches. It felt as if you were flying into the air. You took advantage of your speed and pulled yourself up easier, high enough to wrap the elbow of your bad arm around the branch.
Your feet were dangling in the air as the wolves neared quickly. They immediately jumped against the tree, one of them even jumping high enough to grab your foot. You felt the sharp teeth entering your ankles and whilst crying loudly of pain, you tried to shake the wolf off of your leg.
Thanks to gravity it had let go, falling onto the ground and regaining itself to prepare for another attack. You quickly pulled yourself up, getting onto the branch before you looked down. They were barking loudly at the tree, jumping against it.
Even thought they couldn't reach you, you still found it too close. You slowly and steadily climbed higher, towards a branch which seemed more solid. Thanks to your broken hand it was quite hard, but at least you had your arm.
When you finally felt you were safe you gave a loud breath, your chest heaving up and down and the saliva stuck in your throat making it hard to breathe. How in the world did you survive that? Where did those wolves come from and above all... How could you have run that freaking fast?
Whilst breathing loudly, you ignored the loud growl of the wolves, who were still trying to get up there. Your throat felt as if you had swallowed grass and you were in desperate need of some water. You were sure you were already dehydrated.
You were so engulfed into your own thoughts that you didn't hear the loud cracking of the tree's branch. Once you realized that the branch was cracking underneath your weight, making it clear that the wood couldn't handle it, you nearly shot up. You immediately tried to reach out for another branch, but it was too late. The branch you were on snapped, falling down towards the ground and taking you with it.
A loud scream escaped your throat as you wanted to grab another branch, a leave. Something! You failed and you crashed onto the ground with a loud bang. Pain had spread through your body even more than before and the wolves immediately rushed at you, their teeth ready to dig into your flesh. You gave an ear piercing scream as you felt one of the wolves tearing at the flesh in your leg.
The other was biting at your arm, another at your other leg. This was the end, this was it. You would die a horrible, painful death by wolves and you didn't even get close towards your goal... Well at least you had tried. At least you would see your friends again...
That's... Such a nice thought...
However when you were ready to release all the pain and continue on towards the afterlife you felt one of the wolves retreating. The loud yelp of a wolf that was in pain was heard before all the wolves retreated from your wounded body.
You were wondering what was going on, but you didn't have the strength to stand up anymore. You knew these wolves had just been busy, so the damage would be restricted to your skin, yet you knew you were losing quite a lot of blood.
Taken together with the blood you already lost... You would pass out within a minute. You opened your eyes to see the wolves growling, barking at something... Or rather someone. You saw how they were all ready to attack, one wolf lying motionlessly on the ground.
You wanted to escape now, use your last power to take a sprint but you couldn't. You had enough. You would either pass out soon from the blood loss or you would die. Your body and mind were both at their limit now. All of your strength had been used when you ran away from those wolves, and that strength came from staying alive to fulfill your goal.
You had nothing left. No one to give you strength, no goal to make you push even harder. You were done now. Done in body and mind. You really, really had more than enough and it was fine this way. You had done everything in your power to continue on. You could face your friends with dignity.
So you only watched, watching the wolves attacking a certain person...
You tried to focus your gaze, wondering who it was. You saw the wolves jumping at the person, however this... guy only swung his arm, making the wolf cry loudly and then falling to the ground. Two wolves attacked the person on the same time, but he avoided one and the other was stabbed repeatedly.
You tried to keep your eyes open but it was too hard. You eyelids slowly closed, the last image was the person still fighting with the wolves. You opened them again out of pure determination, wanting to know who it was and what was going to happen.
When your gaze could finally focus you saw the guy slashing the last of the wolves to pieces. He did it with such ease, with such swiftness you remembered. You saw the guy standing there, his back facing you and looking down to one of the wolves.
Wait a second...
You saw stands of black hair, a white with blood stained hoody. No, it couldn't be. He couldn't have found you. The guy turned around, showing his with blood stained knife as his lidless orbs fixed onto your (e/c) ones.
Oh my god.
Your eyelids slowly closed again, but this time followed by your mind completely blacking out. The last thought which flew through your head was:
"It was Jeff."
Congratulations, you chose right!
WHEH! That was one hell of an awesome, long and incredibly perfect update... Cough.
I think I do owe you guy s some explanation, well here it goes:
I promised you guys a decision chapter and so when I was writing (after the whole Deviantart problems etc.) I notvied that the chapters became a little too long... And then even longer and then it became so long that I couldn't make it into one chapter because such a long chapter isn't really my style and this way it looks better...
Anywaaayys,
I noticed that while writing it became a lot longer than I had in mind. I promised a decision chapter so badly and even though I've had this problem before... It were too many chapters to publish without the decision chapter... So I decided to just bite through and write it all. It's why it took me longer than usual and than I said.
However now you got 6 whole LONG chapters updated in 2 days!
Was it worth the wait of three weeks or not? If not then you can kiss the capital letters of chapter 47.
How do you guys like where the story is going? a little sad yes, but it's coming closer and closer! I cannot say how many chapters until the finally, probably another ... lot or so.
Well, if you have any questions then do not hesitate to ask. I haven't been replying to any comments lately because I was so busy. From now on I will (sorry to the people who commented in that time) I will reply to all the questions asked these past few weeks though.
The next update I'll need more time because this one was long. In between one week and two weeks.
Leave a comment, a critique, a heart or a turtle and above all:
Stay awesome!
The Last Breath
When Yezzu first sent his sons to the realm of men, they brought with them the magic of the gods. They created the three kingdoms we now have today being Dremshen, Ex'ol, and Kantillion. In the five thousand years since the gods left, much has changed. Great wars were fought, Universities were built, civilizations were created. One thing remained after the gods' departure though, their powers. Today, the balance of crafting the three gods brought has shifted. In the beginning, each had the same skill as the other, but the magic that was passed down through the millennia has diminished. The struggle for power that started long ago is coming to a defining moment. Plots of war and assassination are being weaved. Don't despair, for we may yet be saved from the disasters to come. Our hope lies in three young crafters. The first is William Divus, who sets out from his small village into the Dremshen Kingdom to study crafting after his father's passing. His questions about his father and his quest for knowledge drive him. Next comes Ehzahn Obasi, an Ex'olian thief with unparalleled skill. He steals for the thrill, no longer needing the rewards that come with it. He has just achieved his lifelong dream, but he will soon learn how much he underestimated the fallout from his daring theft. The last is Ki Soru, the niece of a powerful duke. She showed promise with crafting at a young age, so she had the best training the Kantillion Kingdom had to offer. Ten years have passed since her lessons began, leaving the king unsatisfied with the results. Her life is upended when her new teacher arrives, revealing a secret kept from her that changes her whole life. These three are our heroes. They were born in separate kingdoms under vastly differing upbringing, but each with their own part to play in the challenges to come. Here begins our tale of mischief and misery with only but a sliver of hope.
