The cold concrete floor felt like heaven, it felt like you were lying on thousand pillows. The pain wasn't as worse as it is when you would be standing but you were sure you had cracked your head open on the floor. The whole room was spinning before your eyes and you weren't sure what was going on.
Why were you lying there?
You tried to get up, there was something that needed to be done, yet you weren't sure what it was. However you only stood up in your mind, your body not following your actions anymore. You needed to get up; you needed to hang on... But your body decided it had enough, it couldn't listen anymore.
With the last strength you had you turned your body, lying on your back and facing the guy standing above you. Heavy breathing was heard and you had trouble expanding your ribcage in order to suck in air. It really was at its limit, wasn't it?
You saw him looking down at you, probably wondering who the hell you were. However when he raised his hatchet you knew he didn't care about who you are. He only cared about killing, and he was about to end your life too.
You kept staring at him, still hoping you'd find the strength to roll away, and hoping that you would find some power in order to face this guy again... For what purpose exactly??
"Don't..." Your eyes shot open widely as you heard the familiar voice. The soft, comforting but sometimes irritating voice. You remembered it; you remembered who this voice belongs to... But most of all you remembered again what you were fighting for.
Your friends.
Your head shot up as you looked at the guy lurking above of you, his hatchet still raised into the air. Your body finally decided to comply, to move again. But it was too late to move out of the way. You tried protecting your face with your hands as you saw the hatchet coming closer and closer.
And then, suddenly, you saw another shadow looming over your body. Yet this time it wasn't the front, but the back which was facing you. A disgusting, slashing sound was heard followed by a high pitched gurgled groan. You didn't know what was going on.
Time went in slow-motion as you saw the silhouette of the person standing in front of you. Skinny, fairly short... Long hair...
Sandy.
You heard a loud, long scream echoing through the room, yet it seemed so far away. It was then you realized that the sound was coming from your mouth, being wide open as you slowly saw Sandy dropping to her knees before crashing onto the ground.
The guy with the hatchets still standing in front of her body and yours, staring down at the girl before his head rose into the air. Your eyes however followed Sandy's body, which was now lying motionlessly on the ground. You then focused on the guy still standing there, completely in shock and too frozen to move out of the way for his next attack.
However it never came. He only stood there, his head raised into the air... As if he was listening to something, to someone. It was then his eyes turned back to your scared frame, still lying there in shock. He then retreated his hatchets into the holsters on his hip, before walking over to the door.

Your expression turned from horrified to confused as you followed his every movement. He was walking towards the door... Why? What was happening? Was he going to lock you up in here? Is he just going to walk away? Maybe he thinks you're dead?
"Consider y-y-y-yourself l-lucky to still b-b-be alive, that will c-c-change s-s-s-soon." He then stepped out of the room, not even closing the door or making sure you were dead. He just left you there. Together with your broken soul and dead friend.
Friend.
Your head immediately snapped towards Sandy's body. You had no idea how fast you had to get to her, speeding over to the young girl in order to see if she was still alive. What did that hatchet destroy? Her ribcage and lungs? Her heart? Her head?
When you arrived the first thing you did was shaking your head, raising both of your hands and wondering what you could do. You saw her chest heaving up and down slowly and irregularly, meaning that she was still breathing. Superficially but still breathing.
"Sandy, please. Don't give up on me." You whispered, your good hand cupping her bloody face before you saw her opening her eyes. You stared straight into her green eyes, her empty green eyes. The once chubby girl was completely drained of her fat, leaving only one skinny mess.
"Don't give... up... yourself." Tears started to form as you heard her gurgling with each word she spoke, still trying to crack a joke even when dying. You shook your head roughly, staring into her eyes while the tears now began to stream over your face.
"Please stay with me." Your voice cracked as your eyesight became blurry. Your eyes shifted towards her body, where a big, dark gap was seen on her stomach. A gap filled with blood, the illumination making it seem as if it was one black hole.
You then stared into her eyes again. They were still shining. Duller than they were before, yet still shining. This made you cry even harder, gripping her face tightly and placing her head onto your knees. She couched loudly, the corner of her mouth stained with blood.
Sandy looked up into your own eyes, her mouth forming into one smile. You knew by her ragged breathing she wasn't going to make it, yet you couldn't believe it. You couldn't lose another friend. Your heart was again being torn apart, ripped into a thousand pieces when seeing Sandy smile like that.
A sad but content smile.
She shouldn't be content! She shouldn't be happy about this! Why is she laughing?! Your hand moved over to the gigantic wound on her belly, trying to apply any form of pressure on it. She only groaned, correction, letting out a gurgle whilst her mouth was filling itself with blood.
"You're going to make it; we'll get out of here together, Sandy. We'll live our lives as no-" You couldn't finish your sentence as she kept staring into your eyes. Her hand slowly going up to touch your face. Her bloody, ice cold hand caressing your cheek whilst still smiling.
Even breathing became too much for her as you heard the gurgling sound when she was breathing, yet she still didn't look away. Her smile never left her face. Just like it always did. You placed your hand over hers, just like they did in the movies...
However this time it was all too real.
~~
"Oh my god, I'm so tired. I had to party freaking 4 days after each other just because the stupid president was sick."
"Obama is sick?"
"No you doofus, the president of the student association. I had to take over all of her tasks."
"You mean drinking beer and dancing on the bar, haha?"
"... Have you been stalking me?"
~~
"He's totally looking at me."
"I think he' staring at something else you know."
"What do you mean? It's obvious he likes me."
"I think it's obvious he likes other things."
"Like what?"
"... Men..."
"..."
"..."
"STOP LAUGHING!"
~~
"What in the world is that, Sandy?"
"Oh, this? It's Frank; I have to carry him along for the rest of the day."
"It's a rubber chicken."
"A student's gotta do, what she's gotta do."
~~
"Sandy... I can't do this without you..." You whispered, the tears rolling freely over your cheeks as you didn't dare to let go of her hand. You squeezed it softly, still staring at her, still hoping that she would stand up and tell you everything is going to be okay.
Still hoping that it could all be a nightmare.
You saw her opening her mouth, showing off her completely red teeth and all the blood residing in her throat. Only a few gasps and gurgles came out, but you knew what she was trying to do. She was trying to tell you something.
Squeezing her cold hand even harder you moved a little closer to her face, trying to hear what she was trying to say. Seeing her struggle like that broke your heart. She should be partying, smiling and having fun in her life. She shouldn't be dying in a horrible way right now.
"Shh... Don't talk Sandy..." You shakily said, but she didn't listen to you. Her mouth was still going up and down, soft gasps and gurgles heard as she did her best to speak. You wanted her to stop! You didn't want to hear her struggle like that!
"Be...Be... Be..." She whispered. You moved a little closer towards her, wondering if you had really heard what she said or if you had imagined it. Yet you were sure she said it. The word: 'be'.
"Be?" You raised your head again, staring at her whilst her bloody smile grew. You had guessed right, she was saying be. What a cruel game this is to play. You didn't want to play anymore. Most of all you wanted to release Sandy out of her misery. You didn't want her to suffer like this.
"Be... G-g-go..."
"Sandy stop!" You yelled at her. Your lips tasted like salt and the tears kept on coming. You didn't want to hear her talking to you like that. You didn't need her words of wisdom and power, you needed her! You needed Sandy to be next to you when you would escape; you needed her in your life!
You couldn't lose her. You didn't want to lose her! Why?!
"Be... Good." You only shook your head at her words. You couldn't be good anymore. You were so damaged that it would impossible. You couldn't play by the rules. You couldn't hang on. You just couldn't live on without them...
"I'm so afraid." There it was. Finally the thing you had never ever dared to say to anyone, the thing you were denying so hard... Came out. You were afraid, you were so incredibly afraid. Afraid to lose your friends, afraid to live a meaningless, dull life...
Afraid of what was about to come.
You were sobbing loudly, still holding on tightly to the hand of your wounded friend. You then felt it retreating and how much you tried to hold it, you eventually let go. You felt the hand going higher, towards your back. And then you felt her pulling at you.
Weakly, but she was indeed pulling you.
It took you a while to understand what she was doing. She was pulling you closer towards her. You allowed her to, you let yourself be guided by her... Because not only she was your friend, but because she was comforting. She was comforting you right now, at her dying breath.
You moved a little, placing her head onto the ground and letting her guide you closer and closer towards herself. Eventually your forehead touched hers as you kept on sobbing loudly. You heard her giving rough and harsh breaths, yet her smile was still plastered on her face.
"Sandy... I love you... Don't go..." You cried, grabbing her hand again and holding it tightly. She on the other hand began to gurgle loudly. You whispered her name over and over again as her breathing became more ragged and superficial.
"Thank you... Thank you so much... I'm so proud to be your friend..." You felt the grip of her hand getting weaker and weaker and you shot up, staring at her whilst you saw her cheats heaving up and down heavily. Your eyes widened in shock, knowing what was happening but not accepting it.
"No... Please, I need you!" Sandy's eyes were wide open, yet she wasn't looking at you or anything peculiar... She was looking at nothing, her smile growing wider and wider as you saw something flashing in her eyes. You shook your head, letting go of her hand and then slowly patting her face.
"Stay with me, stay with me, STAY WITH ME!" You screamed the last part, but she couldn't hear you anymore. Her breathing became shallow, too shallow. Her eyes became duller and duller and whilst still smiling at nothing... You heard her giving her last, deep breath.
From then on her chest stopped moving; the shining shimmering in her eyes faded away, yet the smile was still plastered on her face. A sad but content smile. Your breathing became heavy as you stared at your friend in shock. Her body was still warm, yet her soul had left her eyes.
They were completely empty.
You could only stare, being frozen to the ground as your eyes were glued to your dead friend's body. She was lying there, completely skinny, broken and bloody. You had just seen your friend die, being guided towards the afterlife. Her last words being: 'Be good.'
And for one time in her life... She wasn't thinking about herself. While giving her last, dying breath, while walking through the portals of heaven... She was thinking about you.
Shockingly you retreated your hand, eyes still glued to her because of hope. Hope that she would jump up; hope that you would suddenly hear her breath again... But you knew she wouldn't. Your friend was dead, her body giving up on her.
Sandy... Is dead.
"SANDY!"

Follow the journey of an individual given a classic cheat trope in a cultivation world. What does a man do when he finds himself unsure of who he really is yet is given a cheat? What really happens to a cultivation world when it is overrun by MC level characters? Is the cultivation world just run by cruel young masters, short-sighted elders and uncaring experts? Note: Tags may be removed or added to this story as it progresses. For example, I added the harem tag because I wasn't sure if it would appear so be forewarn. Also, productive feedback is always appreciated even it may be ignored. Note 2: Original idea inspired by "Arrogant Young Master Template A Variation 4". I wanted to do something similar but have a more gritty realistic feel. The system SHOULD differentiate as the story goes on but if it doesn't it means I need a rewrite. Either way, read AYMTV4, it's great. Note 3: If you give criticism to be helpful, please try to be descriptive, specific, and focused on making my story better, not changing the story to how you would write it. The Awakened
Mark was a data analyst that had recently landed a job in a company and his life was pretty normal if not a bit boring through upon meeting a mugger in an alley his life had a drastic change not neccesarily for the better. He stopped being a sleeper and saw a glimpse of the true form of the world which opened his eyes to a new life altogether. ============================================================================================== This is my first fiction and i am loosely basing this on Mage:The Awakening rulebook. Naturally i am going to change things a bit but i don't intend to make this a novel where the main character goes around changing the whole world. It will be based on a normal guy discovering a new world while trying to find his place in it. Also please write comments warning me about things such as development speed or unrealistic relations.
