Note:
this chapter contains vulgar language,
The last chapter (Chapter 34: the chase) is NOT a separate decision chapter. It is linked to chapter 30 and the decision you made there.
In chapter (chapter 3o: The key) you could choose whether to keep the key or to put it back down. If you didn't choose just yet then go back to chapter 30 and choose. If you did choose, then consider all of the above not written.
If you did take the key, then you're at the right chapter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank the lord you did take the key. However there was no time for thanking and praising, the only thing you had to do now was quickly grab the key and then open this door. From behind, you heard the footsteps coming closer and closer towards you.
Within a second you had reached into your pocket, fished out the key and stuck it inside the keyhole. The nerves and fear of losing your life made you shake even more than you already did and you had to clench the key tightly in your hands in order not to drop it.
The key almost fitted perfectly inside the hole and to your own surprise it indeed did turn smoothly. A very soft 'click' was heard and you wanted to cry of happiness but there was no time for distractions. Even though this all happened in only a few seconds, you had no more time to lose.
You grabbed the handle rather roughly and then used all of your power to push it down and open the door. You knew how heavy it was, so you pushed your whole body against the metal giant. You nearly stumbled inside once the door was completely open.
Without any hesitation you had slammed the heavy door shut and then turned around to run as fast as you could. You had left the key in the in the keyhole. This other killer chasing you would surely have his own key and you didn't even want to think about locking that door while being chased. You had no time.
The fact alone that you could open the door gave you new hope, gave you new energy to get out of this alive. You knew you were close to safety, but that killer wouldn't be stopped by a simple door.
You heard the big, metal door far behind you being shoved open, followed by heavy footsteps. Of course, he was still behind you. You then fastened your pace, the newly found energy and your determination stimulated your muscles even more.
It was then you realized that there was something wrong. You were finally aware of your surroundings, but it didn't look like anything you remembered or recognized. This whole corridor seemed even colder than the one before and some of the lights bulbs hanging from the ceiling were broken, leaving you with no light at all at some points.
You kept running, but the more you ran the more you got this feeling that you had to get out of here as soon as possible.
You knew that when you came into that maze that you only had to go through one corridor after you took that turn by the stairs... But this corridor seemed longer, never ending and it had all kinds of door while that other corridor didn't have them. Once you came to a turn you knew that you were wrong.
That wasn't the right
It may have looked like the door you came from, mostly because it was also metal like and heavy, but the corridors you were in now were completely different. You didn't even make a turn when you entered this maze. This was indeed a whole different place than you wanted it to be.
The footsteps were still following you, getting louder, getting heavier... Getting faster.
Panic started to take over as you desperately took one turn after the other. You were in deep shit before, but where you are now really tops it. Was there any way to get back to that door? You didn't think so; once you would turn around he would get his filthy hands on you.
You couldn't do anything more than to just run, run for your life and somehow survive. Maybe shake him off? Finding Jeff would be impossible now, he wouldn't be searching you in here. You were doomed.
You ran, and ran until you knew you couldn't run anymore. Your breathing had become heavy, the hope had completely disappeared and the guy was still following you. This wasn't just a game to him, he was testing you.
You just knew that he could easily catch you all this time, but he wanted you to become tired, he wanted you to give up and let him take you. And you know what? He would probably get what he wanted. Your muscles felt as if they were tearing apart, your throat was dry and hoarse from the breathing and your organs seemed to have stopped doing what they were supposed to do.
You had to come up with some sort of plan and quick. Outrunning him was futile, finding Jeff impossible and getting to the door only a fantasy. You needed to shake him off some other way. It was then an idea popped into your head.
You had to go inside a door and hide. Do the thing you are good at. You've escaped them once, it was worth a try. Even though this idea sounded completely ridiculous, it was either that or continue running with a 100% chance of tiring out and getting caught.
You glanced over your shoulder to see if he was still following you, but the darkness once again made it impossible to see. Though, you could hear because of his footsteps that he was close. However you also noticed that all of these doors were closed.
Opening one of them was a dead giveaway for the guy, so you had to open a few of them, in order to set him on a different and wrong track. You couldn't help but to think back when you were younger. You used to do that a lot, in a small alley open the doors of unlocked gates as fast as you could before an angry neighbor would catch you.
So silly to remember the good old times while being in a situation like this. Maybe it was what people felt when they were close to dying? They would see their own lives flash before their eyes... But you weren't planning on dying jut yet; you had to get on with it.
You then speeded around the corner, close to the wall and ready to open all doors as soon as possible. Most of them opened while others were locked. Stupid, you hadn't thought of that! You kept running, opening doors until you decided to use the next room as your hiding place.
You opened the door and then busted inside with high speed. You had to watch out for the several tools, broken wood and other stuff lying on the floor. You didn't even take a look at this room as your eye caught the first big thing standing at the back of the room.
You speeded over to the cabinet, opened the door as fast as possible and squeezed yourself inside the small space. Once you had closed the doors you immediately covered your mouth with your hands, to prevent you from breathing too loud.
The heavy footsteps seemed to have completely disappeared and the whole room had filled itself with an eerie silence. You heard your own heart beating like crazy, the sweat from all the exercise was dripping from your forehead, falling onto your already wet chest.
You only waited, desperately trying to get your body in control as hoped that this plan would work. If there would be light, you could've seen the room through the small crack of the cabinet doors... However there was no light and thus the darkness seemed to be the only thing present.
The only thing you could rely on was your own hearing and that didn't pick up anything out of the ordinary. This scared you to the bone. There was no breathing, not any sound of frustration and even no footsteps. Was that guy still there?
Yes, he had to be. You weren't that stupid to have him lure you out with his silence. It reminded you of that time at the swimming pool. No, you weren't falling for that trick. Even if you had to sit here for hours, days or even weeks.
He had to come and get you.
Suddenly, the cabinet doors opened with one good swing. The air engulfed you and before you could even react, you felt a hand gripping your hair, pulling you out of the tight space and throw you on the floor. You didn't need to see who it was, you already knew.
"It's pathetic that you think you can hide from me." The voice spoke lowly, before you felt two arms yanking you up. The whole room span before your eyes and then you felt your feet losing touch with the ground. Finally your back collided with something hard and the smack made you nauseous.
"It was quite the trick you played with those doors... Sadly you didn't think I could see you so well, running in here." He said and once you had finally realized what you were on, you felt his hands grabbing your pulses, strapping them to the table somehow.
"I really liked the chase, you're good for a " The way he spoke those words had sent shivers down your spine as his hands moved to your feet. You kicked with all you had, struggling against these restraints but it was of no use, only the table moved a little.
"Sadly, my boss doesn't really allow more than one pet. But don't worry; I'll make sure that I enjoy your kidneys very slowly." Your eyes widened at this sentence. Kidneys? What in the world is he? A cannibal?
You began to struggle even more, screaming at the guy to fuck off and let you go. He didn't seem faced at all as he only grabbed his scalpel. He then walked over to you, hovering over your small form like one big shadow. The end of the scalpel dangerously close to you.
"Don't be so sad. It'll only hurt a little." You had closed your eyes tightly and were waiting for the painful blow. This was it; this was really the end for you. You couldn't do any more than you already had. Jeff would come too late if he would even come.
You never did bury Lola, or avenge her. You never freed your own friends and you never would see them, your family and everyone else again. You knew that by your death, they wouldn't survive either. There was one tiny thought which was positive... In some way.
You would see Lola again.
And eventually your friends.
That was the only thought which sneered through your mind as he had dug the scalpel deep inside of you. Pain, sadness and regret were the only things you felt before our eyesight turned black for good.
Island Paradise (Grashien Chronicles Book 1)
The Grashiens have survived in hiding for millenia, peacefully watching over the human race from within. The arrival of one girl sets in motion a chain of events that will be impossible to stop. What will come of this unexpected change in circumstances? How will the tribes react? And will the Grashiens be able to rejoin society for good? Author's note: This is the first book in what is expected to be an eight-book series. The first few chapters aren't very good since they were written when I was about ten, but the quality improves around chapter 7. Please bear with it; I'll try to get the chapters in as soon as possible. Thanks!
Devil's Basement: Colony Ragnarok
Far beneath the surface of a planet wrapped in a toxic atmosphere, competing political ideologies stare each other down over a heavily militarised line that cuts through the city on their border. Among the dark rail tunnels and mine shafts are an unfinished treaty up for negotiation; a fanatical terrorist group with questionable backers; and ordinary people caught in the middle. In this claustrophobic environment, those who desire peace must act quickly or these tunnels will collapse in the fires of war. _____ This story is based on a role-playing map game I GM'd awhile ago. The four main characters are based on the four players from that map game, and the general sequence of events follows the game as well. El's Revenge
“Revenge is not for the dead- we, as the living, take revenge to relieve the burden we feel,” I whispered into the air. “Salvation for the people who suffered because of you,” I watched as the city burned in the flames. “Salvation for the people like me, who believed in the proclaimed heroes when in reality they were the devils.” I smiled faintly as the ‘holy land’ of those ‘saints’ was destroyed. I heard rustling sounds as Charlotte came to stand next to me, grabbing my hand. “El, are we the bad guys?” If I was still the same as I was before, I might’ve broken down and started crying. Now, it was different. “A villain is just another victim. They cry and mourn, it’s just that no one heard, leading them into madness. It’s one of the reasons why we know the most, but care the least.” I took a deep breath. “We may be the bad guys in other peoples’ eyes, but in my story, we’re the heroes.” Charlotte took in my words for a while and pondered, before nodding in agreement. “As children, we loved the heroes, as adults we understand the villains.” I looked at her and bonked her on the head, earning an angry glare from her. “Hey! You’re barely an adult yourself you know,” she grumbled. I laughed and ruffled her hair, before countering her. “At least I’m not 12. You can’t even be considered a teenager at that age.” After that, we silently watched the flames ravage the land, before leaving.
