《I Need To Exchange My Demon, Please》Chapter 5: Unwilling Friend

Mila sat on the toilet, her elbows on her knees and face in her hands. A small sniffle escaped and she brushed away the last tear, resolving not to cry anymore. Sighing, she reached over for the toilet paper but only came into contact with the empty cardboard roll. She looked over and frowned, only then remembering she ran out of toilet paper the last time she went to pee and she was fairly certain she'd left the toilet paper she bought earlier in her living room.
"Dammit," she sighed, leaning over slightly to open the cabinet under her sink. It was empty. The toilet paper in her living room was all she had. It was one of those rare moments she wished she lived with someone so she could just ask them to get it.
Thinking about that reminded her of the demon that was supposedly just wandering around, unable to leave until he did what she said. She raised an eyebrow and shrugged. "Marcus, come," she tried. It was what Lilith said and he showed up immediately. Unfortunately, she wasn't Lilith and nothing happened. She sighed again, then her eyes widened slightly as she thought of something else. "Marcus, I have a name for you!"
A few seconds later, the demon appeared in the bathroom then quickly shielded his eyes. "Oh come on, what the fuck?"
"I had to pee," she shrugged. "What, are we not at this level?"
"No, fuck no," he groaned. "Why would you think that?"
"Hey, you're the one that said you wouldn't leave me alone for a second," she reminded him. "It's not like I'm taking a shit, relax."
"Of all the fucking humans..." Marcus said, shaking his head.
"Can you please get me the toilet paper I left in the living room?" Mila asked. "It's just in my shopping bag."
"Mila, I swear, if you called me over here just to get you toilet paper..."
"You'll do what, kill me?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. "Go for it. But if it's going to be a while, can you please grab the toilet paper?"
"You're infuriating," Marcus growled.
"Back at you, devil-boy. Toilet paper?"
"I'm only doing this because I'm hoping we can establish some sort of agreement," he said, narrowing his eyes at her before walking right through the door without even opening it.
Mila stared wide-eyed for a minute. She'd seen him walk through walls before but only out of the corner of her eye, this time she actually got to watch him and wished she could do it too. Only his hand came through a couple seconds later and he tossed her the toilet paper.
"Thank you!" She called out.
After finishing up, she washed her hands and wandered out into the living room, waving at Marcus. "Hey, you're a demon, you must know at least something about being seductive. Come help me pick out clothes."
"Mila, I'm not a friend," Marcus said flatly. "I'm not going to bring you toilet paper and help you pick out clothes unless you give me the name of someone else to kill."
"Okay well I'm not changing my mind about the name, you already did one of those things, and the other is a win-win for you because you get to watch me change," she shrugged. "Come on, please? It's not like you have anything better to do."

"For your information, I was in the middle of a game," Marcus said, narrowing his eyes at her.
"A game?" She asked. "What game? With who?"
"With my human friends."
"The lovebirds?" She gasped, holding her hands to her chest. "How cute! That's nice, but you were already interrupted, so come on," she said, gesturing for him to follow her to the bedroom. "I'm wearing pretty underwear, if that helps!"
"What the fuck makes you think that matters to me?" Marcus said, crossing his arms.
"Well, you blushed real hard that first night I called you hot, so," she shrugged. "Plus, I'm assuming you're not blind, come on," she said, gesturing to herself before heading into her room. "We both know my body is nice."
Marcus stared at the open bedroom door, letting out a long breath that was both a sigh mixed with a growl. Eventually, his curiosity got the better of him and he wandered into her bedroom, his eyes going wide at the sight of her standing near her closet with nothing but a lacey bra and panties on. He cleared his throat and darted his eyes away for a moment before they drifted back to her. He'd never met someone so bold and confident and wasn't sure what to do with it.
"Okay, what do you think of this?" She asked, pulling out a black dress and tugging it on. She smoothed out the material then turned toward him. "Well?"
"It's fine," he said, sinking down on the bed. The truth was, she looked incredible in the dress. It ended above the knee and plunged down in the front, working very well with the pushup bra she had on under it.
"Just fine?" She frowned. "I can't look just fine, dammit," she muttered, going back into her closet and sifting through her clothes.
"What are you getting dressed up for?" He asked.
"A work party," she said, pulling out a red dress and holding it against herself. "What about this?"
Marcus almost said it looked nice but hesitated. "I won't know unless you try it on."
"Fair enough," she shrugged, hanging the red dress back up and taking off the black one. Marcus attempted to keep his face neutral as she stood in front of him, nearly naked again. She pulled on the red dress and held her arms out. "Well?"
"It's... Nice," Marcus said, his eyes darting down to her cleavage. She did have a nice body. A very nice body. "Why are you dressing sexy to a work party?"
"Ah-ha!" She said, pointing at him, a smug smile on her face. "You do think it's sexy."
Marcus sighed, narrowing his eyes at her. "I'm not blind, as you pointed out. Why are you dressing sexy to a work party?"
"Ugh," she said, rolling her eyes and heading back into her closet, her voice coming out muffled as she dug through her shoes, tossing one right after the other out of the closet. They landed on the floor in random places and Marcus frowned. She was by far the most disorganized human he'd ever met. Katherine would lose her mind if he brought her here, she needed to be organized. "I don't know if you can relate to this because I don't really know how the demon thing works, but have you ever like, dated someone beneath you because you didn't realize they were beneath you but then they're the ones to dump you and you're just kind of like..." she paused, coming out of the closet and holding up a pair of strappy heels. "Do these match the sexy level of the dress?"

"Uh... Yes," Marcus said, trying to stay focused as she bent over to put the heels on, allowing him a look right down her dress that he quickly avoided by trying to focus on anything else in the room.
"Thanks," she said, pulling a heel on. "Anyways, so you date someone beneath you, they dump you, you realize how stupid you were, but you're kind of mad they dumped you because it's like bitch please, good luck doing better than me, you know?"
"Sure," Marcus said. He wasn't sure at all that he was following but it looked like the story was headed in the direction of someone she didn't like. Someone he might be able to kill so he could go back home.
"Right, so, anyway, my ex dumped me for this other girl, but then she dumped him and now she and I are kind of friends," she giggled, putting on her other heel. "So, there's karma for you. Anyway, he's going to be at the work party, and I like to torture people, you know, like you do," she said, gesturing to Marcus. "So I want to look extra sexy both so I can feel confident, and so I can make him feel like the unworthy piece of shit he is because it's really amusing for me to watch him trip over himself to try to make up for being a dick, only to be completely rejected. You follow?"
"I see," Marcus said, crossing his arms. "If he was beneath you, why did you date him to begin with?"
"Oh, well so the way I'm attracted to people is like, are you a decent person? If someone seems nice, has a good sense of humor, and is good to me, then I don't care what they look like," she shrugged. "They're hot. So at first I thought he was hot, but then he showed his true colors and I realized how ugly he was and how right everyone was when we started dating and they said he was beneath me. Because he totally was," she frowned. "Seriously, he's not even sort of cute, but because I liked him as a person, I thought he was. But for real, look at this guy," she said, grabbing her phone off her dresser and tapping the screen before showing Marcus the picture.
"You dated that?" Marcus frowned. "He's... Hideous."
"I know," she sighed, tossing her phone on the bed. "But he was so sweet to me that I thought he was real handsome, you know? Haven't you ever had that moment? Like sometimes I see a really hot guy and I think I want to date him, but then he speaks and I find out he's a douche and then all I can see are bad features. There was this guy at the gym I wanted to date," she said, walking over to her dresser and opening up a jewelry box, grabbing earrings and putting them in her pierced ears. "Like, I legitimately had a huge gym crush on him for like, five months. So I finally work up the nerve to talk to him and he's just... A piece of shit," she said, wrinkling her nose and sitting on the bed. "Like, as we were talking, this sweet chubby guy came in and the dude started talking shit about him and his body and it just made me so mad. Like first of all, don't body shame, and second of all, the dude is at the gym trying to improve himself and you're going to mock that?" She asked, throwing her arms up. "So anyway, that's when I realized his nose was really big and he had an obnoxious laugh and beady little eyes and was just really hideous overall. At least, to me he was, other people fawned all over him but it was over for me at that moment. We never spoke again. I did, however, hook up with the chubby guy because he was real cool and real good with his mouth, it turned out. He moved to another state though," she frowned. "So that was a bummer. But he's doing really good on his health journey. We follow each other on social media."
Marcus nodded slowly, not sure what else to do. She talked a lot. A lot more than anyone else he knew. "Sounds like you know a few assholes, which one of them do you want dead?"
"Ha," Mila wheezed, nudging him with her elbow. "I would say nice try, but that wasn't even a nice try."
Marcus sighed and leaned forward, rubbing his hands over his face and glancing over at Mila, watching as she tapped furiously into her phone. He frowned, noticing the playfulness gone and a much more somber expression on her face. "Something wrong?"
"Nope," she said, looking up from the phone and smiling. "I do have to leave though. If you plan to stay, just make the sure the door's locked when you leave."
"Something bothering you?" Marcus asked again.
"Since when do you care?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I don't," Marcus said flatly. "I can just tell you're off. Are you sure nothing's wrong?"
"Totally," she said, standing and walking over to her dresser, opening it up and fumbling through it until she found the clutch she wanted. Marcus didn't buy it, not for a second. He narrowed his eyes at her and crossed his arms, deciding to just come right out with the question he'd been wanting to ask.
"Who's Stella?"
Mila froze and glanced back at him, a fury in her eyes he was not expecting. "What?"
"Stella," he repeated, frowning. "Who is she?"
"What do you know about Stella?" Mila asked, turning to face him, crossing her arms.
"Nothing. That's why I'm asking."
"None of your business," she said, grabbing her wallet off the dresser and stuffing it in her purse. "I have to go."
"Mila, who is Stella?" Marcus repeated.
"None of your fucking business," she snapped, walking out of the bedroom. A second later, he heard the door slam shut, leaving him even more confused than he was when he arrived.
