《Distractions (Scrutinized Tanner x reader Fanfiction)》Chapter 8

A cool breeze came through the window of Tanner's apartment as Y/N gently pet his head that was in her lap. He had been so stressed since yesterday and it hurt Y/N greatly to see him in such a pained state.
She felt the cold air hit her body while she pet him, his face soft to the touch. She was happy he was feeling ok and even happier he felt the same way about her as she did to him. But she still couldn't get what he said out of her mind-- it dug into her like a knife, and it wasn't going away;
"I'm, well, a murderer to say the least A-And I know that sounds bad but- It wasn't really my idea..."
Was it true? Was she really loving a man who was willing to kill and hurt those around him? To say she wasn't sure was an understatement. On one hand, he didn't seem like that kind of guy... but- on the other, maybe that's what he wants her to believe.
Y/N just sighed and shook her head, letting her mind ease into less frightening thoughts. It didn't matter whether or not that's WHAT he was -- right now, Luna was what mattered.
From what she was given with her conversation with Tanner, Luna's information was now leaked to a man named "Adam". Who he was, she didn't know, but she did know what risk it meant for Luna.
With that information out and in the hands of someone so malicious, there was no doubt about it that someone was now after Luna, and what they'd do to her only plagued her mind into a state of fear.
Y/N's fear leaked into her hands as she thought about it all, her fingers tangling into Tanner's hair and her breath becoming heavy and loud. It awoke Tanner, who had been sleeping like a baby on her.
"Honey? Are you okay?"
"y-yeah... yeah... I'm alright." Y/N mumbled, twiddling her thumbs.
Tanner shifted up and looked at her, his eyes narrowing and looking at her body language. She was nervous, it was very easy to tell.

"Oh really? then why are you nervous?"
"nervous? I'm not nervous, who said I was nervous?"
"I did. I can easily tell your nervous because that body language of yours really does treat you like an open book. Your voice is trembling, your playing with your thumbs, stumbling over your words... it's all there, y'know."
Y/N sighed, he was right; she was doing nothing except showing signs of discomfort and nervousness, but she couldn't help it. One of her closet friends was most likely in danger and she wasn't sure what she could do to stop it.
Soon, silence crept into the room and made itself well known. It bit at the two until Tanner rubbed his arm and sighed, "let me guess, you're nervous about Luna, aren't you?"
Y/N nodded.
"I knew it. Listen, I know you're nervous but there is nothing to worry about. I promised I'd fix it and I will! but right now I need you to relax a bit..."
"How?"
"How about you get some sleep in?"
Y/N opened her mouth to speak but was caught off guard by Tanner fully getting up and picking her up from the couch. It made her blush; she wasn't used to being picked up by a man.
"Now, now. I know you're worried but you really need to be more relaxed. Don't worry about it, I'll start making the calls when I can but right now I need you to get some rest."
Y/N squirmed for a moment, her body tensing with his touch as he resat down with her in his arms. Her mind continued to threaten her with signs of worry, but far less now. Her mind hazed as his grasp remained tight on her. There were was no escaping or excuses for this, she was going to fall asleep, whether she liked it or not.
It took 20 minutes, but soon Y/N was asleep in Tanner's arms, defenseless and at peace with the world. He smiled, she always looked cute when she was asleep.

Gently, he set her down on the couch and wrapped a blanket around her, trying his hardest not to wake her.
He quickly picked up his phone and walked into the spare room again, dialing a number he hadn't dialed in a while.
"Hello?"
"Heeeeyyyy... It's me, Tanner. I know we haven't talked in a while but -- I need your help with something."
the voice of the phone let out a noise of distress and annoyance before responding.
"And what would that be?"
"Weeeeelll, I may or may not have leaked my girlfriend's friend's information out to Adam and now have therein, set my girlfriend into a state of anxiety..."
"I see... Any other reason?"
"Yeah, that and I'm willing to pay you a ton to help her friend NOT get killed by Demitri..."
"You had me at paid, now then- who is this supposed friend?"
"Luna Youngman. She's a bit short, her hair is in her face, it's ginger. I think she's 22."
The voice let out a chuckle and spoke to someone else that was in the room. Tanner could just barely make out the conversation. Luckily, it wasn't about killing him.
"Heh, I'm guessing your girlfriend is just as young?"
"Why should that matter?"
"It doesn't but if I know YOU... she probably is because you have a weird thing for young women. Anyways, that's her friend? That secluded, awkward, defenseless girl?"
"I guess if that's really they adjectives were using..."
"Alright... and why is Adam trying to get her again?"
"Not sure, all I know is she's looking for the blueblood killer because it killed her cousin."
Tanner peered out of the room as he spoke, checking to see how Y/N was doing. She was sleeping away, unbeknownst what was happening around her.
"Ah, that might be why... AAAANYWHO- yeah sure, we can help you keep her alive and well. You're going to be paying 800 dollars for it though."
"Fine, it's better than what you usually ask for..."
"good. Now then, I must be hacking and working on helping your friend. tah tah, Tanner."
He hung up, leaving Tanner alone again. That was the first call, now it was time for the second one.
"Hello, what can I get for ya today?"
"Micheal-"
"oh, Tanner! wasn't expecting to hear you on the other side. I see you have a new phone number."
"yes, but that's not important right now. Right now I need you to get me something REAAALLLY important from Adam."
"Adam? Geez, talk about turning on your own employer-- but, sure. It may be a bit difficult but what do you need?"
"I need the files on the BlueBlood killer."
He heard Micheal tapping away at his computer.
"Those? why?"
"It's... A long story I'll tell you when I can, but for right now I just need you to get those for me."
"eh, alright. Since I like ya Tanner, I won't ask you to pay for anything, but I will say it'll take MAYBE 2 days or more."
"that's fine, just get it done."
"Alright, I'll call you when I get the data your after."
Once he hung up, Tanner sighed and walked back into the living room where Y/N was. It was the best he could do right now and he just hoped Y/N was alright with it.
"Don't worry Y/N... We'll help Luna together and when we finally solve it, we can relax and be together... hopefully forever." He purred before wrapping his arms around her and snuggling up in the blanket.
"I promise that."
TO BE CONTINUED MOTHER FUCKER-
