《Distractions (Scrutinized Tanner x reader Fanfiction)》Chapter 1

Y/N yawned and flipped another page in her book, completely bored out of her wits -- The faint sound of music she had running in a different room echoed throughout the house. It was faintly muffled by the closed door, just the way she typically liked it.
Her mind wandered as she read every word on the delicate pages, imagining the situation as though it was happening right in front of her.
This was a regular Sunday evening for her: a few new books and some nice music -- a very pleasant experience for those willing to take time into it.
But... this time, something felt strange... Off even.
Unlike her usual nights, she couldn't help but feel like she was being watched. Originally she wanted to brush this off as work just paying a toll on her, but-- it wouldn't go away. Y/N shuffled uncomfortably on her couch, closing the book and looking around a bit as the music changed into something sappy.
Maybe it was just her imagination but she wanted to be certain.
Y/N got up and began going through all her rooms, making sure each light was on and every window was locked. Luckily, they were -- but even with that, she still felt paranoid. Despite this double assurance that everything was fine, she just failed to believe it. No matter how much she told herself it; she didn't feel safe, she thought someone was watching her, and she wasn't going to bed until the feeling when away.
quickly, she shuffled around to her computer, flicking on her Cameras and looking through them all.
nothing
Not a single thing was on the cameras, at least not from what they could reach. Y/N sighed in relief before closing down the program to her cameras. She shut her computer off, the thing letting out a simple Ping! in response.
"someone's watching me," she giggled to herself, "what a stupid thing for me to worry about."

The very next morning, Y/N got up and stretched, her body aching -- wanting to be back in the bed's comforting grasp. Ignoring it, she went into her walk-in closet and got dressed; a simple T-shirt and shorts being all she wanted to wear right now.
it's not like she was going to impress someone anyways.
Y/N checked her phone for a second, seeing a few text messages about going out today before she had to go to work. It always confused her about why her friends felt the need to say, "before you go to work".
Literally, everything she did during the day was a "before you go to work" activity to her
Y/N texted back with a simple, "sure, why not?" before doing her hair and going outside. She did her usual; check her mail, water her plants, and head back inside.
or... at least she thought she would.
As she began to walk back she noticed tracks coming back and forth from her house and they sure as FUCK weren't tracks from an animal.

from what she could tell -- at least what basic knowledge could tell her -- these were very obviously tracks from shoes. from the looks of it, the culprit was in dress shoes, which confused Y/N a lot. Why would someone wear such preppy and formal shoes to do something so dastardly?
It was hard to say.
Y/N looked around frantically, trying to see any signs of the man still being around, but none were there which only made her more nervous.
What if they were already in the house -- waiting for her to come into their hiding spot so they could butcher her alive? it made her shiver, why her?
It wasn't like she was very noticeable in a crowd; her dulled colored clothes just blended in with everyone else, as did her personality. Was it because she was a detective? Even that seemed faulty.
She had only solved a few cases in her time at the force, nothing that would draw attention to someone out for blood.
but even so, it didn't seem like that was the case, she had drawn attention to someone -- someone who was planning on giving her the worst. If that was the case, though, she'd make them wait. Right now, she was going to stay as far away from her house as possible.

Y/N silently drunk her tea as her friends laughed and joked about whatever. She was really shaken about what she had discovered a few hours ago and joking seemed like the last thing she wanted to do.
"Hey, Y/N?" one of her friends called out to her.
"HUH?! what?" she looked up, startled, almost as if she had just seen a ghost.
"calm down! I'm not a murderer, it's just me- kat!" she jokingly giggled, "I was wondering why you looked so... How do I put this in a way that sounds nice... uuuh spooked."
"I-I do? sorry, It's just... a lot has been happening lately..."
Her 3 friends' faces turned into one's of concern.
"Really? what's wrong?"
"Well, last night I felt like someone was watching me... A-And, not the usual kind of "someone's watching me" I mean like -- I mean the kind you really can sense. I just chalked it up to working getting me down but... then there was this morning..."
her friend's eyes widened, their faces becoming less concerned and more mortified, drinks stopped moving and all their pupils shrunk as they looked at her.
"I... I-I-I found shoe prints leading away from my house..."
Y/N's four friends eyed each other. This was no longer a friendly get together -- this was a serious situation.
"I see, could you define anything else? maybe what kind of shoes they were?"
"they were dress shoes."
Kat paused for a moment, "dress shoes? who wears dress shoes to stalk someone?"
"wasn't there some fake doctor looking dude who is known for stalking women? I'm not saying he was the guy who is stalking her but-"

Kat looked at the other girl annoyed, "AMY! SHE'S WORRIED ENOUGH WHY BRING WOULD YOU BRING HIM UP?!"
"Ladies! we can't just keep fighting. As much as I hate to say it, Amy might have a point. If there IS someone stalking Y/N, it wouldn't be insane to think it was that creep" the third female of the group, carol said.
Y/N just blankly stared at the wooden, rounded, dull table. She didn't think about that until now and it really didn't help her anxiety about the whole situation. If it was him it raised even more questions, especially what he wanted from her.
"Hey, sorry to bother you five, but would you mind if I sat here?" a voice snapped her out of thought.
she looked up to see a fairly tall young man in front of her. He looked around 24 maybe 25, fairly well built (if not skinny), and had dark brown eyes. His ears pointed slightly, he looked like an elf. Just as handsome as one too
His hair was pulled back, the sides shaved aside from two parts where his hair and side met- those had small tufts of hair sticking out. It was a nice french roast kind of color, a few light auburn strands being noticeably there. She wasn't sure if this was genetics or his doing.
his face was dirty, or at least LOOKED dirty- a few dark brown dots being on his face, his lips, meanwhile were gentle and soft looking
whoever his parents were they really made their son as handsome as can be.
His clothes resembled that of a doctor's, white lab coat, red tie, black slacks...
Dress shoes.
Y/N tensed up, those shoes... they were the same kind as the ones that had left imprints in her lawn.
Silence remained for a moment, her friends looking around to see if there was an empty table young man could go to but the cafe was far too packed. "sure I don't see a problem!" Amy blindly responded. "thank you!" he gave a smile, exposing his pearly white smile.
Jesus, what wasn't perfect about him?
He sat in the last of the open chairs and checked his phone, the smile remaining. Y/N and her friends looked around a bit, wondering what they should do. Y/N took a deep breath, even though she was on edge and worried if he could be the man whose been stalking her -- it wasn't nice to sit there and not speak.
"Sir, if I can ask, are you are doctor by any chance?"
He looked up from his phone and blinked -- his eyes narrowing as if he was thinking about that question. Y/N took note of it, it wasn't like she had asked him a trivia question.
"me? no, no... I work as a chemist. Dr. Tanner Grayton, the pleasure is all mine."
"I see... so that's why you wear a lab coat."
"mhm~ By the way, my apologies for interrupting you all..."
"It's fine, we weren't talking about anything important anyways."
Her friends looked over at her, their looks showing nervousness but also annoyance. She ignored them, after all, he seemed nice and it was the only thing that was really putting her at ease.
"My name is Y/N by the way, it felt a bit rude not to introduce myself when you did."
"ah! Y/N, what a cute name..." he responded his head moving into his palm.
Y/N looked into his eyes, they looked like dark chocolate drops in a box of white chocolate. She couldn't help but stare into them as they stared back at her. "Your eyes are quite beautiful, Y/N..." he said softly.
at that point in time, the world felt like it had stopped -- it was the first time in years she had received a compliment from anyone.
"S-so is yours," she blubbered out quite pathetically, "y-y-your... so handsome..."
Y/N continued to trail on about how Tanner looked while her friends just sat there looking as though this was the most pathetic thing they had ever seen.
"Should we leave the two love birds alone?" Amy teased looking away with a devilish smile on her face.
silence.
It seemed despite the remark, Y/N was far too mesmerized to notice -- far too lost in the "chemist" in front of her that she could barely fathom a thought.
"Okayyy... I think we'll take that as a yes."
silently, her friends got up and went to the car they had all traveled in while Y/N continued to stare at the young man that laid in front of her eyes -- her friends' feared if she stared at him for too long she'd practically pass out.
their conversation lasted another 30 minutes before they eventually exchanged phone numbers, exchanged goodbyes, and walked away from each other.
"good grief," Kat sighed, "whatever will we do with that girl..."
as everyone loaded up into the car, Y/N had completely forgotten about his shoes... the shoes that matched the ones her stalker were wearing

Y/N's journal entry:
September 6th
Feeling: excited
Today I met a cute chemist while hanging out with my friends. I don't think I've ever seen someone so... hot -- it's almost like he came out of some sort of film.
other than that, today was pretty strange. I felt like someone was watching me and stuff last night and I didn't think it was true but then I saw some shoe prints. I think I might contact some of my detective friends if anything else comes up. Otherwise, I think I'll be ok.

This story was previously known as "The Awakening".~*~"One... two... three... one... two... three... a million... is that number right?" A figure less voice echoed."Hello? Who's there?" Caliope asked, focusing on that voice."One... two... who? A million... a billion... no, it's more... a legion..."Silence. She had seen too many horror movies and heard too many stories about that single word to overpass its meaning. The voice went quiet, yet she was still unable to see where it came from. Her eyes focused on the far end of the path and all she could see were more trees. She turned to the opposite side and found just the same."One... two... billions... but always back at one..." the voice resumed it's counting."Where are you? 8 138Realm || A Game Of Thrones Fanfiction
'I think deep down inside, everyone likes to see themselves sitting on the Iron Throne. Some just refuse to listen to their desire for power. Others give in to it. And others let other people do the hard work for them. But no matter who you are or have become, no matter what your heart desires or how much power you would like to gain; we will all burn if we don't stand strong together.' || This is a Game of Thrones fanfiction. The story takes place somewhere at the start of season 7. This fanfiction does not follow the entire plot of the new season. Some characters are not where they should be according to the actual story. I do not own Game of Thrones, nor the characters. I do own Anthea Lannister and some other characters.||
