《The Steele Brothers (Completed)》39. Epilogue - Viridian

I wake to Grey's warm arm wrapped around my waist from behind whilst my legs are twisted between Ash's, and I take a moment to realise just how lucky I am, my men, before my bladder makes its demands I need to get up and use the bathroom, but that can be easier said that done, especially when I didn't want to wake them.
We had gone to bed in the early hours having celebrated our graduation and our engagement with our families. Grey and the others having outlined their plan for Grey to marry me and all of us to do a bonding, I had wondered how they had chosen and laughed when they explained Dad had for them and how.
Both mothers had gone away promising to help me with wedding plans once we sorted a date we wanted and I knew we would all want something reasonably simple and soon, it was getting our families to agree with that but we had time so I wasn't too worried.
The sun catching the brilliant cut pentagon shaped diamond which Raven had informed me represented our love and our family that Grey had slid onto my finger just before we had walked for graduation. They had shocked me by dropping to their knee in the hall, other students and faculty watching but it had been perfect for us, as one stage ended a new one began.
I grinned as I started to carefully twist my way free, biting my lip to stop the laughter escaping as Grey and Ash rolled together, seeking my warmth but finding each other in their sleep. Resisting the urge to take a photo of them, I crept silently to the bathroom and freshened up before heading downstairs to find coffee.
Jett was already up and humming as I watched him dance around the kitchen, waiting in the doorway for him to notice me. As ever a blush coated his cheeks when he spun and saw me watching, before I was up in his arms and he was waltzing me around with him.
"Good morning baby girl" he grinned before dipping me and kissing me."Coffee?"
"Yes please" I grin back as he lifts me into a chair and dances away, returning with a full mug moments later.
"What are your plans for... Viri!" he shouts as I rush to the sink, knowing I wouldn't make it to the bathroom as nausea hits me hard and I'm sick.
"What's going on, why are you shouting?" I hear Raven's voice behind me, but can't speak as I'm sick again. then a cold flannel is being held against my forehead and arms are supporting me. I take deep breathes waiting for it to pass.
"What happened?" Raven asks again, and I hate that both He and Jett sound so worried.
"She was sitting there, I passed her a coffee, then bam, sick" Jett was muttering and I turned to see him lifting the coffee to his nose, brows drawn as he tries to figure it out.
"Sorry, I think I must have picked up a bug, that the third time this week I've been sick but I feel better now" I tell then as they look at me worriedly.

"You need the doctor" Raven declares, with Jett agreeing but i shake my head at them.
"I'm fine, I'm sure it will flush through my system and honestly its not worth worrying a doctor over" I argue reaching for my coffee but quickly pushing it away again as my stomach rolled at the smell.
"Do we have juice?" I ask and it distracts them from talk of a doctor until the others join us for breakfast, I ignore their worries as I feel okay again but I know they are watching me. Ash slips out mid morning returning for lunch and in time to witness me losing the contents of my stomach again and Jett, Raven and Grey raising their voices as they argue between doctor and hospital.
"Out!" he orders his brothers, shutting them out as he helps me clean up, wiping my face before crouching down in front of me.
"I have something for you, it might tell us if something is wrong with you" he tells me and I think I see excitement on his face.
"Okay" I mutter feeling weak and washed out, until he brings his hand round in front of him and holds up a test... a pregnancy test.
"You think...?" I gasp out as my mind does the calculations, "But I get the shot, I'm up to date!" but it makes sense, now he has mentioned it, the symptoms fit and more spring to mind.
"Lets take the test and see" he offers with a smile, the excitement more visible now.
"You want me to be don't you?" I ask him softly, banking down my own panic at the thought.
"Baby, you carrying our child is a dream for me, are we ready, who knows but if you are, I promise you there will be fours daddies to help you"
"What do I do?" I whisper and listen as he reads the instructions out to me. "Stay with me?" I ask as he turns to the door and he nods, keeping his back turned as I pee on the wand and pressing the countdown button before placing it on the tissue he had placed on the side and washing my hands.
"Three minutes to change our lives forever" I tell him, walking into his open arms as the other knock on the door, Ravens voice demanding to know what's going on and to let them in.
"Let them in" I agree, wanting them all to be part of this, if I am...
"What's going on!" Grey asks first, his eyes scanning me and then his gaze catches on the wand. "You're Pregnant?" he whispers, making his brother stop and stare.
"We don't know yet, I might be wrong" Ash warns them but I can feel their excitement growing.
"When, How, how long before we know?" Jett mumbles out, looking between me and the test.
"Any minute now" Ash updates them, looking at his watch.
I look up at them, aside from Ash who is still holding me the rest are looking towards the test. Ash grins as he catches my eyes, his hand coming up to rest on my flat stomach and i try to relax into his side.

Two short beeps lets us all know its done and I bite back a laugh as they rush forward, looking down at the tiny display screen. "Yes" Jett's shout makes me jump as he fist bumps his brothers before lifting me into his arms and kissing me.
"We" kiss "are" kiss "having" kiss "a baby" kiss.
"My turn" Raven growls plucking me from Jetts arms and they all laugh.
"Maybe we should find a room with more space" Ash suggests smiling at me over Ravens shoulder and they trail after me and into the lounge, Raven sitting down with me on his lap.
Ash sitting next to us and i hear him counting down five, four, three, two, one...
"What do we do, are you okay, why is it making you sick" Greys voice raises with each question.
"Do you need anything, water, something to eat?" Jett talks over him.
Ash laughs reaching over the back of the sofa for a bag, reaching inside to pull out five books, passing us one each and my eyes glaze with tears at his thoughtfulness.
"Your first baby - An Idiots guide from conception to six months" Raven reads out and I grin as I see them all already paging through...
"It's says we need to confirm everything with a doctor" Raven tells the room.
"We need to go shopping as well, there are things you shouldn't eat" Grey adds and I glare at Ash who is grinning back at me.
"Give me those books" I growl realising what was going to happen.
"Baby you need to stay calm, getting overexcited isn't good for you or the baby" Raven coo's in my ear and I take a deep breath, keeping my glare on Ash who just grins back.
"We just want to keep you and our little peanut safe and well." Raven whispers softly and I relax back against him, knowing the truth in his words, they all love me and I know it scared them this morning to see me being sick.
"What does it say about the sickness?" I ask them all, putting my copy of the book aside and letting them do it for me.
"It says its normal... it can last for months" Raven mutters out and i can hear panic in his voice.
"No, that's not on, there must be something to stop it" Jett is flicking through the pages reading and growling as he doesn't read what he wants to.
"See what you've done" I growl at Ash but he just smiles, fully letting his excitement show.
"We need to call Ma and Pa" Grey says and I suddenly realise how I can knock the sense back into them.
"That's a good idea, we also need to tell my parents and Uncle Luca, Uncle Chester, Dom, Leo..." I trail off as all the boys groan and exchange looks.
"I'll do it" Raven says shocking us all as he pulls out his phone and I shout "No" at him.
"Why?" he looks confused and I have to smile a little.
"We need to confirm it with a doctor first, it may be a faulty test, you can get a false positive" I warn them, my heart fluttering as the worried looks on their faces. "we need to be sure"
"Okay, that makes sense but" he exchanges looks with his brothers "I, We, hope you are" he tells me as they all nod and my eyes fill with emotional tears as they scramble to find a doctor who can see me today.
Four hours later we emerge from the clinic, proof in our hands, our baby, just a tiny spec in the ultrasound images but real. Jett had rushed off to pick up the antenatal vitamins the doctor had prescribed, Ash has gone to get the car, not wanting me to walk too far and the others hovered at my side, not that I minded I was too shell shocked, the test earlier had left room for doubt, but now there was none it was hitting me... I was going to be a mum, we were having a baby!
Raven's hand threaded through mine and he smiled down at me "Stop worrying, you will be a perfect mother and we will be at your side the whole way"
Grey laughs from my other side "Unless your family kills us for knocking you up" he jokes and I groan leaning into his side.
"Don't scare her, it will all be okay, you'll see, as soon as we get home we can let them all know"
I try not to worry as Ash drive us home, only to panic at the cars lining the driveway when we get there. "Show time" Raven laughs, helping me out as the others all surround me and we go inside to find the whole family inside.
"Mum, Dad, Uncle Luca? what are you doing here" I ask as Jett ask Ma and Pa the same.
"We came to surprise you to talk about wedding plans but I'm thinking you may have a surprise for us" Mum tells me with a smile and I know she knows, that they all know, but how?
"How?" Ash asks them.
We all blush as three of the first baby books are held in the air and mum grinned and said "I used the cloakroom and saw your test on the side, so are you"
I pull the ultrasound images from my bag and turn them round to face our families "We are having a baby" I confirm and laugh as they cheer and pull us into hugs, congratulations sounding loud as my boys look proudly at me, Ravens hand settling on my stomach as he whispers in my ear.
"We love you" and I relax back into his arms, knowing I am exactly where I want to be.

Tales From the Terran Republic
We tried, you know… We really did. We tried so hard to be… better… We actually were better once. No, seriously. We were enlightened, generous, peaceful… Stop laughing! We were! We were peaceful, dammit! No, I’m not “tugging your winglets.” It’s true! Look, if you’re going to be like that, I’ll just push the launch button right now. See ya, don’t wanna be… Oh, you ARE interested after all? Ok. Hey, I just got word that your captain will be ok. We were able to get him into a med pod quick enough… Of course, we tried to save him. Just what sort of people do you think we are?... Now that was harsh… completely accurate, mind you… but harsh. Anyway, like I was saying, we were a prosperous, peaceful people, and war had been nothing but a distant memory for over five hundred years before it happened... Before Yellowstone happened! You don’t mean to tell me that you didn’t know about that… massive supervolcano? Blew the Hell out of our planet? Two years where nothing grew?… Anyway, that’s what started it, the Sol Wars… Oh, you have heard about those, huh? Well, needless to say, all that enlightened, generous, and peaceful didn’t exactly make it through the two years of complete famine and the wars that followed… Maybe it’s more accurate to say the enlightened, generous, and peaceful among us didn’t survive… (laughs)… You’re right. It does explain a lot, doesn’t it? Probably for the best, though. “Enlightened” and “peaceful” aren’t really all that useful out here in the galaxy at large, are they? That reminds me; thanks for the ship. You guys did a great job with this one. Oh, don’t be like that. At least it was us what got you and not one of the really messed groups like the Harlequin or the Black Angels. We’re just going to take your shit. It could be worse… trust me... Well, anyway, we loaded the life pods down with some good food, and you guys can drink alcohol, right? We put in a couple of fifths in there, too. It’s about forty percent ethanol, so be warned. Most species will want to dilute that. We’ll drop your wounded off somewhere safe once they are stable. Your fleet patrols this area fairly regularly, and we’ll drop the distress beacon right before we jump… Well, It’s been fun and no hard feelings, right?… Oh, you want to know some more? Sure. I got time to kill… Let me tell you about this one pirate and her crew. They’re Terran scum, but they are still… Why do we hate the Terrans? Hoo Boy… How much time you got? *** It’s the thirty-second century, and humanity is now part of a galactic civilization comprised of hundreds of worlds. Humanity has been savaged by natural disaster and war and has been fractured into several separate populations, all of which loathe each other (some things never change). This is a gritty drama-driven rambling tale that swings between action, drama, horror, and plenty of very, very dark comedy. Warning: contains adult situations, absolutely horrible language, bathroom humor, implied ultra-violence, actual ultra-violence, drugs, alcohol, pirates, mercs, xeno prostitutes, moral ambiguity, deranged AI's with identity issues, giant commie space slugs, and a poor little frog girl who just wants to sell coffee. Updates twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. *** Note: This story can get rough. Those warning tags? They aren't for show. I recently received a review and as a result I want to make one thing clear. Portraying something is NOT endorsing it! Many "heavy" topics are touched upon and just because a character says or does something does not imply that the author feels the same way. I selected the "Anti-Hero Lead" and "Villainous Lead" tags for a reason. Rule number one of this story is "no good guys". A good description of the story is, "bad people doing bad things to worse people". There are a few good characters, here and there, but they are the exception to the rule. If you want a hard-hitting, exciting, gritty sci-fi story that doesn't pull any punches, or shies away from "difficult" concepts, welcome! If you are set on a pure and noble knight that runs around and slays conveniently evil monsters and rescues totally innocent princesses... or your sensibilities are easily offended... You're not going to be happy with this one.

8 86The Scarlet Knight
Caitlin's life was finally going the way she wanted: Her family's restaurant was taking off, she got accepted to the school of her dreams, and her younger sister was finally in a better place. That all changed when her family's restaurant broke out in flames during a party. Caitlin's life is forever changed. She died, and unlike the ones who came before her, her fate has been predecided by the gods. Now she must battle her way through a series of unfortunate events, stay alive, and confront the gods themselves. The Scarlet Knight is a short story that takes place in the same universe as The Reborn. There are elements of Gamelit inside, but nothing too extensive. I write the Scarlet Knight on my phone, so there are grammatical issues inside. You do not have to read The Reborn to enjoy this story.
