《The Steele Brothers (Completed)》3. Viridian

I sigh as I relax back in my armchair, staring out at the bustling campus, its been a week and I am finally settling in, having had my first class in all my subjects and met all my professors, I know I made the right choice.
I had also recognised a problem, well more like four of them, but it had taken an overheard conversation for me to link them together... the Steele brothers.
Jett, who had shown me around, only to turn up again in my Physics class, claiming the second seat at the lab table, his glare sending the student who had been about to claim the space running, Then Grey who was now my Microbiology partner, Followed by Ash who had claimed the seat next to me in Psychology and finally Raven, he wasn't in any class so far but had appeared at my side in the library, his dark gaze pinning me to my seat as he had sat opposite me, before pulling out thick books and ordering me to 'Stay' when I had started to pack up my books nervously.
I had held his gaze when I questioned "Why?"
"Because you are interested in studying and I want to study" he had replied, sending a narrowed glare at a group of female students waving a phone between them and uncaringly disturbing everyone with their noise.
I had been very aware of him and it had taken me a while to fall back into my studying, but even then I had been conscious off him being almost within touching distance for the whole time. That had been the first time, now he joined me nearly ever evening for the two hours I spent studying in there.
Over the week, All of them had spoken to me, introduced themselves and declared they would be around to help if I need any help with anything. I had stayed quiet and done my best to ignore then all but they were persistent.

It had been after my morning class, this morning, when I had slipped into the toilets, I had heard the door open and thought nothing of it, till I had heard the girls mentioning Raven and Jett and a girl they were both talking to, it had taken me a while to understand they meant me and I had hesitated, not wanting to leave the cubicle and face them, but I also didn't want to hear what they were saying.
I hoped the door opening again would stop them but instead another girl joined in, I could hear the clatter of makeup on the vanity top and it was then I learned the four of them were brothers and that their interest in me was raising comments amid the female student body, their attention on one girl was unusual, they didn't connect with other students, the four of them were a unit, they hooked up at parties, but they didn't date.
I had remained frozen, the more they spoke the worse I felt, I was finding out about them from gossip... it felt wrong to hear about them that way. I shook my head, what was I thinking, why should I care, I was here to study.... not date.
I learned they were adopted brothers, their parents were something big on campus, the boys were the top of the food chain and yet somehow I had attracted their attention. They were all model students, perfect grades, great at sports, very social, except for Raven and their looks seemed to be admired by everyone, even Raven who was gruff and would scowl at most people had his own following. Raven had appeared every evening sharing a desk with me in the library since the second day of classes and I know a few people had tried to approach our table but a scowl from him had sent them scurrying away.

But it seemed I was a target now and it was all their fault. This was not what I wanted, I just wanted to study, I would just have to create a distance from them, that would settle the worries of the other students.
Eventually the girls had all cleared out and I had finally crept out of the cubicle, staring at my wide worried gaze in the mirror above the sink as I had washed my hands, before rushing back to my dorm room. Now, I looked at the books ready for me to go to the library, and bit my lip, would Raven appear again, my gut was telling me he would be there, I groaned and reached for the books, I could study here tonight, it would be best for everyone.

The Mortal Acts
The Mortal Acts is an epic progression fantasy with a lower focus on training aspects and a great focus on discovering new ways of using powers intelligently. I've always been drawn to stories where characters use their powers creatively to overcome opponents and obstacles, and I think all the possibilities can provide a great playground for twists and turns. It's inspired by a variety of media, including Will Wight's Cradle, Hunter x Hunter, and Bioshock, so if you like the creative power use elements from those, come check it out. This is my first serial, and please feel free to leave comments and feedback. For backstory, behind-the-scenes, and other fun stuff, come chat on my discord! Desperate to find a cure, he travels to Severance Frontier, a desolate land haunted by hordes of ghosts, witches, and demons collectively called the Deathless. But a miraculous cure doesn’t magically fall into his hands. Things are worse in Severance Frontier than Riven had assumed. Ghosts are banding together into armies, demons are kidnapping anyone who strays out of settlements, and witches are enslaving everyone left and right. Riven, of course, gets embroiled in the mess. Missions to curb the Deathless activity are one thing, but when it starts to look like this is just the beginning of a war that extends beyond the mortal realm, Riven has a hard time focusing on why he came to Severance Frontier in the first place. His mother is inching towards death with every passing day, but if he doesn’t face down the Deathless, what little civilization the Frontier holds will be overrun and destroyed. Thankfully, it looked like the Deathless might just hold the secret of the elusive cure.
