《The way of life - Edser Fan fiction》Chapter 6

It has been a normal week for everyone except for Eda. Due to being caught up in Serkan's incident she forgot about some of the work she has for the University and Kaan's firm. After multiple talks about her internship with Kaan he let it slide knowing that his best friend was very loyal and he would make sure no one oversteps his boundaries. This for Serkan was a big win. Kaan has been checking in on Serkan everyday since his accident but he stopped a week ago which is starting to make his friend wonder.
I have tried calling Kaan for three days but I don't get any response. Eda and I were talking but my mind wasn't focusing a lot on what she was saying more on what happened with Kaan. The thing is that we didn't get in a fight so there wasn't any reason coming to me for why he wouldn't answer. I asked Eda "Have you talked or seen Kaan in the last couple of days?, she said "No I haven't seen him for the past week my internship ended yesterday and I went to say goodbye but they said that he went to Denmark". "Denmark?" She just nodded. I was starting to get confused on why Kaan would go to Denmark especially when he was busy these last couple of days with a project in Istanbul. I was about to go deep into my thoughts until I got a call from Leila saying that there were some documents that needed to be signed today and a project that needed to add some final touches. I went to the company with Eda, she was texting Melo and Ceren. All three of them had gotten really close lately that all they did was hangout together, it kind of annoyed me but I was glad she was happy. As I was busy with work I found a knock on the door, I looked up from my computer and immediately froze. It was Selin Atakay my childhood best friend. She had moved to Denmark for a while to work on some stuff relating to the holding. We both walked towards each other and hugged for a while, when we broke apart I saw Eda's confused face. I introduced them and said "Selin is my childhood friend and also one of the partners to the holding" she just nodded and went up to say hi to her. They both started getting along really well. I heard an oddly familiar voice entering the conference room saying "hayatim" then walking up to kiss Selin's cheek. I recognized that voice immediately it was Kaan. I was so confused so I just said "hayatim?" and the only response I got out of them was a nod.
Kaan had went to Denmark to visit Selin. They recently started talking to each other again after a busy schedule. As they were talking and meeting each other they started falling in love with each other. They both admitted it to each other two days before they were supposed to go to Istanbul for work. Since they were childhood best friends they knew everything about each other and behaved normally. Selin told Kaan to come join her when going to Art Life so that she can dirties Serkan that she's back and that she and Kaan were dating. Least to say Serkan was more than surprised it took him almost an hour to wrap his head around it. He kept asking questions like "how? What? Where? When?".

Serkan's reaction to the news was hilarious. I tried my best to control my laughter with Selin but we couldn't we eventually broke into laughter. What made me laugh more was one of Serkan's questions "why didn't I know I thought I was your best friend, I'm offended and upset with both of you?" He sounded like a child instead of a grown adult. Selin and Kaan went to go on to talk about how they met and when everything happened. I got a message from Ferit saying "Eda, you need to come here now, grandmother and Aunt Ayer are here". I was so confused on why they were doing here especially since last time we talked Ferit and I got in a fight with them since they were starting to control our lives. I stood up and said "I have to go" then I turned to Selin and said "it was really nice meeting you I hope we can talk soon" she smiled back at me and said that we had to hangout together more. I smiled at her and Kaan then left. I texted Serkan that I needed to go home because Ferit wanted to talk about something urgently. I didn't tell Serkan anything else until I figured out what was going on. Serkan just replied with "Ok, be safe, call me when you finish". When I entered the house I was surprised to find that my aunt and grandmother had the audacity to unpack their stuff and make themselves at home. When they saw me they both said welcome than my aunt told me we need to talk. I sat down with Ferit and we waited. They said "Listen living alone in Istanbul is very unsafe for you two and since you didn't want to come stay with us in Mandarin we came to stay with you so we can be one big family" if you didn't think I was pissed enough at their words you can say that I'm way more than pissed right now. Ferit and I looked at each other and then he said "no way that's going to happen we won't let it you can't come and take control of our lives we aren't children" they then stated that they will stay no matter what we say. I just walked up to my room with Ferit following me. After we entered a Ferit shut the door and told me that he won't stay here if they are here and I agreed with him. I started packing some of my stuff and so did Ferit. He left to go to the hotel where we were going to stay the night at until we figure out what the heck was going on here. Breathe Eda you will get rid of them just calm down everything will be fine.Right after I calmed down I heard the door open downstairs and then Serkan's voice. I grabbed my bag and rushed down immediately. Serkan was smart enough not to tell her that we are dating not that I would have cared but right now it would have made it a bigger mess. I was still deep in my thoughts when I heard him clear his voice and say "Are you ready?". I decided to play along and say "Yeah let's go" as we were about to go Aunt Ayfer said where are you going I just replied with "We have a work trip to Antalya" I just saw them nod and we left.

I didn't know how to react when I saw her at her house but all I knew was that she needed help. Right when we entered the car and drove away I heard her sigh of relief. I was about to ask her but she spoke up first. "Thank you, I know your confused and trust me I am can we just go somewhere where we can talk and I will explain everything". "Alright but are you ok your face looks pale", "yeah I'm fine just stress I guess". I just nodded I didn't want to pressure her anymore, we arrived at the cafe and ordered our coffees. Eda took a deep breath and started telling everything "The people you saw there were my grandmother and aunt, I never had a good relationship with them since they always wanted to force their decisions on me and I never enjoyed that. The more they tried to help me with their ways the more it made me miss my parents even more. So when Ferit turned 18 we went to Istanbul and started a new life, now they returned saying they wanted to connect again." We were sitting right next to each other so I pulled her in my arms to help her relax from everything. After our coffee came and we each took a sip from it I took a deep breath and decided it was time for me to tell her my story. "I know how you feel and I understand your pain really well" she looked up at me and I just continued "when my brother died my father started to be distant and my mother was too busy blaming herself that she was the reason why he died. No one really cared about what happened to me at that moment. I felt really sad knowing that I was 10 years old having both my parents but feeling now love. I just studied hard and started turning into a workaholic. Now they try there best to connect with me but no matter how hard I try I just can't. I can never forget the pain they caused me."
Eda and Serkan has confessed the hidden truth about their families. Something that they never shared with anyone else except of course Serkan had also shared it with Kaan and Eda with Melo. They both had a sense of relief after that. Eda realized that she had an exam the next day as a part of the final things needed for her to graduate. Serkan decided for her to come stay with him while her exams end and he will stay at home to help her study and see if she needs anything else. They both just wanted to be surrounded by each other. The next day Eda had went to her exam which took about 2-3 hours which gave Serkan plenty of time to call Kaan and all of their other friends to help him make a surprise party for Eda since her graduation was in 3 days. They were all so excited and happy for her. Serkan had sent them out an email saying what they needed to get done. This was the first time Serkan was doing something like this and he was more than excited and nervous about it. He had millions of thoughts going through his head. Eda had came tired after her exam they sat down and talked for a while, then had dinner, instead of watching a movie Eda wanted to sleep because she was so tired. She went to sleep and Serkan stayed up planning his second biggest surprise for Eda and the rest of their friends. It was time to put it in effect. He called one of his friends and asked her for a couple of things, the next morning Eda saw more than 17 missed calls on Serkan's phone from someone named "Surreya". She told him that she had called him and immediately saw his expression change and he just said it was for work. He knew she was starting to get suspicious or maybe even jealous but he couldn't just blow off the surprise. As they were having breakfast Eda asked him who was "Surreya" he just replied with "She's someone we are doing work with these days", he could sense her still upset so he held her hand and looked her in the eye as he said "Nothing and no one is more important to me than you ok? Remember that" she smiled at him. As Eda was doing one of the projects for the University while Serkan was working on the couch his phone went off. Engin had messaged him saying "Everything is ready, don't worry" and that was all the encouragement Serkan needed. He messaged to see if everything was ready and Surreya happily responded with yes. Surreya was an event organizer she had been helping Serkan prepare everything needed for his surprise and to make it extra perfect. Serkan looked at Eda and smiled, he thought to himself two more days and I give her the biggest surprise. I just hope she says yes

"Cook like your life depends on it, kid. Because it does." Charles had an enviable future lined up for him. Training from the age of five by some of the finest chefs in the world. Schooling at a top culinary academy in the capital. An honorable position as heir to House Boulier, a line of merchant-lords who have charmed the rich and powerful with their cooking for centuries. And in a single night, it all burned to ash. When the outbreak of war destroys his hometown, Charles is charged with escorting his family’s sacred treasure—a recipe book passed down for untold generations—out of harm's way. But his simple mission grows complicated when he’s captured by one of the most feared battalions in the world: the Spears of Mercy. Life as a prisoner in their war camp is brutal and uncertain. Charles has few allies and even fewer strengths to rely on. Only his skills in the culinary arts, honed over a lifetime in the kitchen, are deemed useful enough to keep him alive another day. But he’s not out of hope just yet. With a dash of wit, a pinch of luck, and some very creative cooking, he might just find a way to recover his family’s legacy and take back his freedom. This project is a food-themed fantasy that centers on cooking and chefs. The setting spans a wide world featuring ingredients/recipes both real and inspired by traditional fantasy. I'll eventually be publishing it as a full-length novel (or series of novels depending on length). These are the first draft chapters. I'll likely be re-writing more than once, then editing before publishing, so impressions and feedback are quite welcome. If you like the story so far and you're interested in being an early reviewer for the final product, feel free to message me. I'm looking for an artist to make some concept art and a cover (the cover shown here is just a temporary placeholder). A stand-alone novel for now, but it may turn into a series down the road.
