Pulling up to the restaurant it's small and fancy. It's just outside of the pack forest but that doesn't keep the humans away. We get out and Maddox takes my hand as we walk up, Peter and Lena trailing behind us.

He opens the door for us and the minute I step inside my heart pounds and I look for his Father. The group of alphas isn't hard to spot. The men all tower over the humans walking around them. They go to all sit down but I can still see all their muscular bodies and fierce faces, dark eyes scoping the area. I see four men. I automatically try to pick out which one is Maddoxs Brother and Father. My eyes land on a broad shouldered older man, his hair is dark with strands of silver streaking through. His eyes are blue unlike Maddox but his sharp jaw and deep scowl makes it automatically known that this is his Father. He looks more intimidating than I expected. I remember the first time I met Maddox his hard face and deep stare scared me...maybe his Father is soft on the inside like Maddox.

The man sitting next to him is stocky, his thick arms rest on the table, his hair is dirty blonde but the same silky and length as Maddox. His eyes are like his Brothers, deep golden brown, but the difference is their is a long scar going across his left eye moving just down over his cheekbone. It doesn't seem to effect his vision and soon his eyes are the first to land on us. A small smile rests on his lips, a rarety for a soon to be alpha.

Maddox pushes my back slightly and I walk over to them. His Brother is the first to stand and steps over to Maddox. I back away a little and they engage in a strong hug. I smile at the exchange. My eyes move over to his Father and they scan me, his eyes full of judgement and uncertainty. I automatically feel self conscious. Does he already know I'm the weak link? Did Maddox tell him or someone else in the pack? Can he just sense it?

Lena saves me by stepping in front of his stare and smiles "Alpha Thoran" she hugs him and he surprisingly hugs her back with the smallest hint of a smile

"How are you dear, how is the new pack treating you?" He asks, for a moment deflecting his eyes from me

"I love it, the land is beautiful and the people welcomed us with open arms" she says and he nods approvingly

"I knew it'd be a good fit" he nods and resumes to look at Peter. Peter bows his head and shakes his former alphas hand

They talk for a moment and I look over to Maddox to see him still talking to his Brother. My eyes scan the others to discover a pair of hazel eyes are already on me. This man is probabaly in his late twenties, he's handsome like all the alphas but something about him makes me shiver. I look away quickly and step over to Maddox.

He feels me beside him and wraps his hand around my back "Jax I'd like you to meet Everly" he tells his Brother. I look up to Maddoxs face to see the proudest of smiles, at that look I can't help but blush.

I place my hand out and Jax looks me over almost like I look familiar. None the less he takes my hand and shakes it softly. "Nice to meet you" his voice deep and his head nods slightly

Maddox turns us to his Father as Peter, Lena, and Jax slide in the booth. "Father" he deepens and hardens his voice

His Fathers eyes scan him "you've gotten weaker since the last time we've seen each other" is the first thing he says

Maddox rolls his eyes but only so that I can see "I've missed a few training and workouts, I've been very busy" he tells him and Thoran looks at me

"I can see that" his voice not filled with pleasure

His hand tightens around mine and I caress his thumb lightly "this is Everly Mason" he tells him and I reach out my hand to shake his

He looks at it unpleased but takes it and shakes "very weak handshake" he frowns and I step back a little "I hope that handshake doesn't represent the rest-." He pauses as he looks me over, my hand still in his. I feel Maddox grip me and I know something bad is about to happen.

He turns my wrist over and stares at the birthmark on my hand. He mumbles something to himself and looks back at me, astonished "I apologise...let's sit" he smiles at both me and Maddox

We turn to each other very confused but I shrug. Maddox continues to stare at his Father but I urge him to sit down. Besides Maddox's Brother and Father there is two more alphas. The hazel eyed man and the other one has dark skin like rich chocolate, the lights above highlighting his smooth skin and sharp jaw and eyes. His hair is short and hardly visible. Next to him a absolute beautiful woman, her hair kinky curly, lips plump and painted dark, eyes light golden and skin deep brown. They look like a king and queen. They sit farthest away, being reserved but he radiates power. All these men do, I sink lower in the booth feeling so intimidated. Lena takes my hand and nods, making me feel a little better. Until I peek up again to see the man with hazel eyes still stares deep into my soul, a small smirk twists its way into his lips. I look away and scoot closer to Maddox.

"I should let you know Brother" Jax says "I found my mate" he tells him and Maddox genuinely smiles and squeezes my hand a little

"That's amazing Jax, I can't wait to meet her when I get a chance to return home" he tells him and Jax nods

"We've already built a house next to fathers and are planning to fill it with pups as soon as possible" They both laugh in joy and Maddox pats his back hard enough to seem like it hurts

Through this exchange I have yet to feel the mans eyes move from me and Thoran keeps looking at me like I'm some sort of proud prize.

"Please let me introduce everyone" Thoran stands "as you've met Jax" he nods "this is Herk, Alpha of the Crescent Moon pack" he gestures to the hazel eyed man

I hesitantly move my eyes over to him, his smirk now a grin. He reaches out for my hand and I slowly take it to shake. But he grabs it and brings into his lips, eyes never moving from mine. "Nice to meet you miss..?"

"Everly" I say quickly and take back my hand

"Everly" he says the name as if he already knows it but his eyes finally move from mine "nice to see you again Maddox" he nods barley. I look next to me and he looks pissed, he makes no move to reply "you as well Peter, and Lena you look as beautiful as ever" he smiles and Lena nods with a wary but still kind smile. Peter pulls Lena closer to him and nods once.

"And this is Alpha Caleb and Luna Marcie" Thoran points to the remaining people "of the Lunar Pack"

They bow to us "it's nice to finally meet you, I am honoured to have become your ally" the mans voice is the deepest here...I didn't think it was possible to have a voice so deep to vibrate someone's heart.

"You as well" Maddox bows his head.

"This is my mate Marcie" he says. She may be a werewolf but her eyes are as sharp as a cats. She gracefully nods her head with a smile

"Congratulations on your alpha-hood" she says calmly and softly

"Thank you" Maddox says graciously

The rest of the dinner went fine. Maddoxs Father had a very different demenor than I expected. He wouldn't stop looking between us with a sly smile. He still criticised Maddox a little but when Maddox explained everything he had done so far to improve he backed off a little. Maddox didn't take his arm from around me. Herk was giving me the chills. The way he looked at me scared me. I tried not to make a big deal of it...Maddox only seemed to notice a little. Marcus and Caleb were very polite and they talked with the other alphas about some rogues to look out for and other problems alphas has to deal with.

I feel the hazel eyes burn into my souls and I shiver again. Maddox looks over at me "you ok?" He asks quietly

I nod quickly "yeah I'm just gonna go to the bathroom" I tell him and he nods sliding out to let me

The minute I'm out of eye site from the table I take a deep breath; and feel my heart wiggle it's way back in place from where it was in my stomach. I slip into the bathroom and fight the urge to splash water on my face...makeup is a pain. I take a few deep breaths and hope this dinner is almost over.

I slowly open the heavy door and step out almost running into someone. "Oh sorry" I say quietly and look up to see the golden hazel eyes

He smirks and holds my arms "no need to apologise Everly"

My heart plummets once again. I can't chock up any words so I form a small smile and try to walk away but his next words keep me glued "tragedy what happened with you and your friend...what was her name? Sarah? No that's not it" his eyes glue themselves to mine and horror spreads across my face "Scarlett, that's it. Can't believe Maddox still hasn't captured her...she's a dangerous one...with the things she's done" he pauses "and knows"

My mind is telling me to scream and run away to the end of the earth and hide forever. But my body just stays still and my heart feels as if its going to pump its way right out of my chest. He pinches my chin and a small laugh escapes his smirked lips. He walks off into the bathroom as I stay stunned.

I feel like I'm gliding, not walking on two feet but moving without control. Somehow I make my way back over to the table to hear them talking. "Just to inform you Herk will be staying with your pack tonight as well as us for the ally conference tomorrow but Marcie and Caleb will have to return to there pack until it is time tomorrow" Thoran says and Maddox nods

I feel my body sway. He's staying longer. The numbness settles and now it's pure fear and questions. How does he know about Scar? What all does he know? What is he going to do if he does know? I feel tears prick at the corners of my eyes as I imagine my life falling at the hands of Scar and whatever she has planned. I automatically feel hot and weak, my heart begins to pound in my head and my breathing becomes rapid, my brain doesn't know what to do.

I don't even realise Maddox had gotten up until I feel his arms around me. He keeps me up and I sluggishly move my eyes to him. His dark brows are crossed with concern "Everly what's the matter?" He asks hurriedly as I try to return my breathing back to normal and stand on my own

Somehow I find words "nothing, tired" is all I manage to say

He brings me back to the table and sets me down, he brings his hand to my head and frowns even deeper. "You're burning up"

"You should take her back to the pack, she must rest" Maddoxs Father says and I'm surprised at his worry

Maddox nods and says goodbye to Marcie and Caleb but I pay no attention. I send a nod their way and they bow again to my surprise. I'm glad Herk never comes back to the table before we leave, I wouldn't know what to do. Maddox helps me to the car and Peter and Lena follow behind. I'm not sure if I pass out or fall asleep on the way back but next thing I know I'm being laid in a bed. Strong and gentle hands move down my legs to remove my shoes, next my arms are slipped out of the dress that unknowingly became unzipped. I cuddle up under the covers after a shirt is slipped over my head. The chill doesn't last long, Maddox slips besides me and hold me close.

"Everly?" He asks and I slowly hum in response "do you need anything? Are you alright? Should I call for Fay?" He asks all at once and even though my eyes are closed I know he's looking at me with intense worry

I shake my head "just sleep" I reach my head up and kiss his cheek and not a second later fall into a deep sleep
