《The New Alpha》Chapter 2

I knock lightly on the large wooden door and wait patiently for my aunt or uncle to answer. I hear footsteps coming so I lightly step back. I look down at the welcome mat that says 'all canines welcomed' I laugh knowing my aunt probably picked this up in some human store.
The door open and I look up to see who answered, I'm surprised to see my Father. His dark hair is combed to his head, skin not nearly as pale as mine, frame shorter than most werewolves and blue eyes holding no love for me. "Oh hi dad....I didn't know you'd still be here" I tell him
"Of course I'm still here, it's my duty to look after my alpha I'm his second in command for a reason" he stands tall and looks past me
I look away "right sorry....is Mom in there?" I ask
"She went to fetch the pack doctor...he's feeling worse" my Father says and I nod as he walks past me
I step in and pass the kitchen and enclosed office that leads out to the beautiful back yard. I walk up stairs to where I know my uncle and aunts bedroom is. I used to come here as a child to get away from my parents or Victoria. They've always treated me so kindly and frown upon the way my parents treat me differently and even though they are Alpha and Luna they can't do anything about it.
I smile when I reach the top of the lavish stairs and look into there room. My uncle lays up in bed while my aunt sits in a chair next to him, his hand rests on her swelling belly and they smile at each other.
I knock on there open door and they turn to me, keeping there smiles "Everly" she calls me by my full name
"Aunt May" I smile and hug her
I bend down and rub her belly "hey there my little cousin" I say and we both giggle
"Get over here my favourite niece" I hear my uncle say, his hair is similar to my mothers but darker, he's the strongest man in the pack, he's brave, loyal, and honest-all the traits of an amazing alpha
I laugh and walk past May while she follows behind "don't let Victoria hear that" I laugh and climb on the bed to hug him
He groans a little so I quickly detach and sit back on the end of the bed "how are you feeling alpha?" I ask and he smiles lazily and lay's back
"I'm alright just a little chest pains, I'll be good as new by tomorrow" he says and encloses his hand in mine
"I hope so, we'd all run wild without you" I laugh and they join in
"Are you hungry Eve? I'll go get you something from downstairs" May says before I can even respond she stands and starts to the door, but not before she hold onto the door for support, her legs seeming to go limp for a moment. We both ask if she is alright and she looks back at us and nods.
"Just tired, this big belly makes me unbalanced sometimes" she laughs lightly, her face paler than usual but she lightly rubs across her stomach. I hope she's not coming down with the same thing.
When I look back over at my Uncle he stares off at his beloved Wife and mate "only a couple more months and I'll meet my Son" he says calmly and I smile

"Are you excited?" I ask smiling from the love he has for them
"One day you'll know....the excitement you'll feel to share a child with your mate" he says still staring after her
"I hope so" I say quietly knowing I'll never treat me and my mates children like my parents treat me
My uncle starts to cough profusely and I step off the bed and pat his back. I hear May coming up the stairs and when she gets into the doorway her face is flushed and eyes hardly held open. She holds a tray with a pitcher of lemonade and a couple of glasses on it.
"May?" I ask as she sways from side to side
Just as she starts to fall I gasp and run over to her as soon as possible. She falls to the ground before I can catch her. I lift her head and hear her gasping for air, I throw her arm over my shoulder and help her into the bed next to her mate.
They cough together and Lucian grabs her hand and try's to help her sit up. I don't know what to do. My breathing is rapid and hard "go...help" my Uncle says placing a hand on his wife's cheek
I nod and run down the stairs as quickly as possible, tripping down the last three. I scurry up and out the door, looking for a way to go. I have to get our pack doctor, Fay. I curse seeing training going on in the middle of the pack. I quickly run through as many as the wolves as I can but gasp when two wolves slam in front of me as they train fight.
I try to look over the large area of training, if I change I can get through. I can get through these wolves and get Fay. At this point I'm waisting time, my hearts pounding as I think about my sick Alpha and Luna back at the house. I look for Logan's wolf but he's no where to be found. I don't get it, he should be training, I just need someone and now.
"Move out of my way!" I demand, some of the wolves ignore me while others stare at the 'weak link' wondering what the hell I'm doing
"Eve?" I hear a familiar voice and turn to see my Mom outside the training area, next to her is my Father and Fay
I run towards them, dodging the huge wolves around me. I was so close to changing....what would have happened if I did?
"You guys have to come quick!" I bend over out of breath as they stare at me
"What's happened dear?" Fay asks
"There's something wrong with Alpha and Luna" I say and all there eyes widen and they start to run in the direction of where I was minutes ago
I follow after them, trying to keep up. I watch them all run inside and into the house, up the stairs and into the bedroom. I still hear Mays coughing but not Lucians. As I step into the room, beside my parents, I look up to them. There eyes are wide and shocked, I follow there gaze and look at our Alpha, my uncle, and mentor. I gasp at his closed eyes and silence.
May claws at his chest and shakes him while she cruses loudly while trying to breath through coughs. Fay looks as shocked as us as she places two finger on his neck. The next seconds go in slow motion, Fays eyes slowly turn over to us, her thin mouth littered with wrinkles on the sides, her turned down eyes wide and rimmed with tears, face going pale as she says-

"The Alpha is dead" everyone gasps
May screams even though she gasps for the little air that enters her lungs. I hear my Mother cry out and fall into my father's chest.
"We need to get May to my office now" Fay says but I'm too shocked to move and my Mom clutches to my Father
"Eve go get someone now!" Fay says loudly and I shake my head and run out of the room in tears
I make my way through the front door and search the area for someone to help. I start to run to the training field filled with wolves to help. "Eve! What's wrong?" I hear a voice to the left of me
It's Logan, he's in my driveway and looks very confused at me. I wipe away the tears "Logan" I say breathlessly "please help" I beg and run back into the house, knowing he'll follow
As I run up the stairs I hear him behind me, calling out my name but I ignore him, the only sound I hear is Mays weeping. I step back into the room and fight back the tears and screams I want so bad to let out.
"Logan, lift May and bring her to my office" Fay says
I look over to him and his brown eyes are on his alpha "Logan" I say quietly and he quickly shakes out of it and lifts May away from her Husband
She kicks and screams while trying to breath as he pulls her away. The tears over flow as I follow Fay and Logan out of the room, my parents staying behind....my mothers cries echoing through the house.
As we step outside the house everyone feels it. The feeling of emptiness of not having an alpha, we're all connected and when an alpha dies the whole pack feels it. The training group is completely still and silent. All the wolves stop in there path as they watch us, there wolf eyes are large and they all bow there heads to there crying and respected Luna.
I follow behind them and when we reach Fays hut, we hear a loud howl from all the wolves outside. When I turn behind me everyone that was in there house is now outside watching us or looking at our fallen alphas home. The howl continues from all the wolves in the pack.
Logan sets May in the small room behind a lay of wooden pieces hanging in the door way, Fay follows. I fall back on a chair and put my head in my hands, not being able to bare the sound of her sobs. I hear Logan come out and he scoops me up in his arms, lifting me from the chair to stand. I clutch to his body as I cry into his chest, waiting to see if my aunt and unborn cousin will suffer the same fate as my uncle.
*
Logan sits next to me, his arm wrapped around my waist and my head on his shoulder. We've been here for an hour and it's been silent back there. My Mother and Father have yet to make an appearance but I'm assuming they are with the council to discuss...
I wipe a tear from my cheek and sit up hearing the door open. I see Victoria walk in and her hazel eyes shoot straight for the door "is she....?" She asks
I wince at the question "we don't know...Fay has yet to come out" I say hardly above a whisper
She just nods and looks to the room where Fay took our Luna and aunt. She walks over and sits far away from Logan, he shields me from seeing her.
We all hear movement and stand as she steps out. I gasp seeing blood on her glove covered hands "what's happened?" I ask in a rush stepping out of Logan's grasp, him and Victoria following me
A tear slips down her cheek as she slips off the bloody gloves. She pushes back her brown and greying bangs as she looks at the ground "the Luna has passed...." Both me and Victoria gasp and my legs turn to complete jelly, luckily Logan catches me
"What about the baby, the future alpha?" Victoria asks breathlessly
"I tried...but the child was too young" she says
I turn from her and lay my head on Logan's chest, he hugs me tight while I cry at the lose of three of my limited family members "no" my Sister actually shows emotion as Fay hugs her, tears stream down her flushed cheeks, her hazel eyes are swollen and red.
"How could this have happened?" I ask stepping away from Logan, he reaches for me but again I step away
"I will have to run some tests...." she says softly rubbing Victoria's back
"what do you think was the cause?" Logan asks
"I can't say, hopefully we'll know soon" she says softly, something in her tone and face shows fear and suspicion...making my mind twist.
We're all silent for a long minute, it seems like the whole pack is silent "I'm going to let your Father know...I'm sure he'll want to call a meeting. The council has some things to discuss" Fay says to me and Victoria and we nod
"my father's the council leader now....I should go talk to him" Logan says and looks at me "will you be alright?" He asks softly and I nod, not saying anything, knowing I'll beg him not to leave me if I do. I can't be alone with my sister right now.
Both him and Fay leave and I'm left with Victoria . She looks at me and her tear filled eyes turn to anger "it's your fault" she says and storms out, I hear her snarl and when I turn around I see her wolf outside the doctor hut. Unlike me her fur is light brown like her hair and her eyes are liquid gold. She snarks at me and bares her teeth before leaping off out of my site and into the forrest around me.
I can't worry about what she thinks about me all I can think about right now is....who's going to be the new Alpha?

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
