《Girls Talk [Girl x Girl]》Chapter Thirty-One- Invitations and robotic voices

A day after not talking very much to Victoria later, Fox texted me.
F: Hey Kate, want to go get coffees?
I quickly texted back that I would see her there soon, and I met in her in the carpark and the two of us went to get out drinks at a local coffee shop, that just so happened to be the one that Victoria and I had been to before.
That last time and now, so much had changed since then.
Fox and I got our drinks and went to sit down next to the window.
"So, update me. Are you two or are you two not girlfriends yet?" Fox asked.
"Neither,"
"Neither?" Fox nodded, her tone not-so-certain.
She paused for a moment to take the coffee from the barista's hands.
"Define that," she continued.
"I don't know, we both like each other but Victoria's..."
"Let me guess, giving mixed signals," Fox said.
"It's not that...yeah,"
Fox gave a small smile.
"Margo, too,"
"Yeah," I replied, and I knew the reason as to why.
"Margo told you something, didn't she?"
I needed to stop being so readable and start getting better at reading other people. I nodded.
Fox rose an eyebrow.
"I think she should be the one to tell you,"
"Oh? She doesn't like boys now does she?" Fox joked.
"I don't think that would ever be possible," I replied.
Fox faked a sigh of relief and then her eyes met mine again, she smiled after a few moments.
"Hey, Kate,"
"Hey?" I questioned.
"I'm glad we met...I mean, who else would we tell each other all this unnecessary drama to?"
I smiled at that.
"Me too," I replied.
Fox finished her drink and moved onto her cake, then looked back to the drink halfway through eating her cake to look at the drink cup once more, as if somehow, she could magically make the contents of it rise.

"They really need to make these things larger,"
I laughed lightly.
"Huh?" Fox asked.
"Margo said that,"
Fox smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, sounds about right. Except, I'm a tea lover and she's a coffee enthusiast," she replied.
I gave a nod.
My favourite thing to have at coffee shops was a frappe, or tea, but there were too many options to settle on one...
Fox took out her mobile when it began to vibrate in her pocket.
She gave it a look of interest before answering.
"Go? Yeah, Margo I'll be there in like twelve, Kate and I are having coffee...okay, it's urgent? Sure."
Fox ended the call and 'helped' me to finish my cake.
"Sorry, Margo wants to speak to me and I don't want to leave you here to get a ride by yourself,"
Before either of us could get up, however, Margo was walking into the café. She adjusted her beanie on her head before taking a seat besides Fox.
"Okay, I may as well just say this. I know I've seemed kinda avoidant recently but..."
"You're doing this now in the middle of the café?" Fox mused.
"Yup," Margo replied.
Fox moved a curl of red out of her face and looked back up to meet Margo's eyes.
I took another bite of my cake in wonder about what Margo was going to say next.
Although, I think I had pretty much worked it out at that point.
"Fox, I like you," Margo admitted.
Fox smiled, and Margo returned the expression.
I cleared my throat, and the two of them turned to me.
"I think I'm gonna go and see Victoria,"
"Good luck," they said unanimously as I slid out of my chair and made sure I had enough for the bus back to the university, I think that it was best if Margo and Fox had some time to talk for a while, at least.

However, on the way to the bus stop I paused in my tacks when in front of me was Victoria.
She turned to me, and then headed over.
"What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing," I replied.
I thought for a moment before speaking again.
"I like you, Victoria. So, what's happening?" I enquired.
Victoria paused, as if it surprised her how easily those words slipped out, then she turned away, as if thinking about what to say next.
"You don't want to talk about it?" I asked, after a few seconds.
Victoria turned back around to me. "That's not it, it's just,"
"Complicated?"
Victoria smirked.
"Not exactly, I'll tell you at some point," she replied.
"What?"
"How I feel," she answered, and then the topic shifted.
"We don't have many weeks left here until break," she stated.
I nodded.
It was true, it wasn't too long until the term ended. I had almost forgotten that we wouldn't even be at the university soon.
It all felt it was going too quickly.
"Greene," Victoria's voice broke me out of my thoughts.
"Yes Victoria?" I replied.
"You should come and visit my house in the holidays, that is if my sisters aren't being their usual annoying selves," she stated.
I never really considered Victoria's siblings...but then, it hadn't come up very often.
"Sure," I replied with a smile, Victoria returned the expression.
"Good," Victoria said, pleased that I had agreed to go.
I mean, it was Victoria, it wasn't like I was going to say no after the past few days.
"Okay, we'll see each other then. I'm just going to buy more paints, want to come with?" Victoria asked.
I agreed to her invitation and the two of us headed towards her car, which said in its robotic voice, "Good afternoon, Victoria,"
Victoria smirked.
I think she had upgraded the car since I had last seen it.
"Doesn't it freak people out when your car starts...doing that?" I questioned.
Victoria shrugged. "It's great conversation at parties, and a good excuse 'Sorry, I was just talking to my car',"
"And it speaks back to you,"
Victoria laughed lightly.
"Sometimes, I mean...it learns from repetition. There's only a few sentences it can say like-" Victoria's eyes widened when the car spoke next.
"...is that Kate Greene, she's the most beautiful girl in-"
Victoria immediately turned the car off with a laugh.
"That...yeah," she smirked, turning the car back on.
I laughed gently.
"Well, the car knows its stuff it would appear," Victoria said quietly, as she began to drive on down the road towards the art shop.
Victoria Lace had called me beautiful.
I couldn't help doing anything but smile.
