《Girls Talk [Girl x Girl]》Chapter Twenty-Nine- Quiet

When I awoke the next day, Victoria didn't seem to be in much of a talking mood, and I didn't know quite why until she mentioned about the room-share. Today was supposedly the last day we would share the dorm room, and then we would have to be relocated.

Except of course, that wouldn't be happening.

Victoria had said that, but then not mentioned why, which led me to question whether she was drunk when she had admitted what she had the previous evening- that she liked me.

Maybe I was just overthinking it and being silly, I was good at that, but still, I couldn't help but wonder.

"Okay well, get Marcus on the phone, please?" Victoria said.

Next thing she was sat on her bed staring down at her phone screen with her eyebrows furrowed.

She had been put on hold. She tapped her freshly crimson-painted finger nails against the phone and then looked towards me.

"Greene,"

"Yes?" I asked, my tone perhaps too hopeful.

"Did you dress in the dark this morning?" she replied.

Maybe she was drunk last night....it was becoming more convincing that she had been.

"I didn't change my outfit from yesterday," I said.

What I had meant to say was that I was wearing the outfit I had the previous day, after changing out of my pyjamas, perhaps worded slightly wrong there, because Victoria rose an eyebrow in a mix between disgust and surprise.

"You did what?" she asked, I opened my mouth to speak more but she held up a finger signalling that the person on the other side of the telephone call was speaking to her.

Great.

I waited for a bit before Victoria spoke again.

"No, I want Kate as my roommate...well, forget what I said before. No, I am okay sharing a double room, it was just a slight burst of eccentricity, I am fine sharing with Greene." She said.

I let out a breath. Well, that was promising.

"Okay then, it's done. We're not switching," she said, and then abruptly ended the call.

She looked up to me and gave the trace of a smile, but it all too quickly disappeared.

What was she thinking about?

Victoria was being uncharacteristically quiet, and had been since the early hours of the morning. Perhaps she was just tired or had forgotten to eat breakfast or...

"Swan texted me yesterday," she replied.

"She did?"

Victoria nodded.

"Being her usual self," she added.

Oh. Maybe that was why she was...well, being the way she was.

"She says I don't have a chance with you," she replied.

"Well she's wrong," I wanted to say, but there was a knock at the door, so I went to answer it. When I opened it, the person standing in front of me was Margo.

"Hey Greeny," she said, immediately ruffling my already overly-bushy blonde hair.

"And Lace, how is the new couple doing this morning?"

Margo...

Victoria huffed in what seemed impatience, and then rolled her eyes before heading out of the dorm.

"What got into her breakfast?"

I sat down on my bed, Margo followed.

"I don't know, she's been different since last night,"

"Maybe she drunk too much, but she really likes you..." she added when I started to look short of hope.

"She just wanted things to go a different way?"

"I don't know how they could have gone a different way. I've planned saying that to her for so long, but you cant plan admitting you like Victoria, she's the most unpredictable person I've met since..."

"Since?"

"Well, it was a while ago," I said.

"Oh? Kate had a girlfriend I never knew about?"

I shook my head in amusement.

"Just a friend," I replied.

"Was she as cool as me?"

I smiled. "I think you two would have been very competitive over who has the best beanie,"

Margo nodded. "Obviously me," she replied.

My smile widened.

"She likes you, you like her, it's obvious to everyone but the two of you it seems,"

"I told her," I replied.

Margo paused for a moment, taking this information in.

"Go Greene," she grinned.

Margo and I talked for a short while after that, and then she invited me to go and hang out with her and Fox, who seemed to also be 'oblivious' to liking each other. At least, I thought Margo liked Fox, it seemed that way.

Fox brought out her spray can and began to decorate the wall some more, and then Margo added to it. It wasn't until they had finished that I realised they had sprayed a tiger on the side of the wall, they were talented, that was for sure, though I couldn't help but feel it would completely suck if someone discovered their art and was to remove it.

Margo and Fox smiled at the work they had created, and then turned back to me.

"You should spray something," Fox said.

I gave a look as in 'I should?'

"Yep," Fox replied.

I shrugged, and headed over to take the can from Fox, and then began to spray until I finished a picture of a leopard with a flower crown on it.

Much better than the standard leopard, though perhaps an overused art style.

"That's..." Margo began.

"Amazing," Fox finished.

I smiled, glad that they thought so.

Margo and Fox headed over to put the can back down next to the apparent empty ones, and then Margo turned back to me.

"So..." she began.

"So?" I replied.

"Isn't it kind of weird for Victoria and you to kiss, for her to tell you that she likes you and then just stop speaking about it completely?" Margo asked.

Yes, it was weird, but this was Victoria.

"She shouldn't let you be dragged along like this, you need to take a stand," Fox said.

"I'm only five feet and a few inches," I replied; Fox smirked in amusement and rolled her eyes.

"Try talking to her about it later," Margo said, and shrugged, then headed off to probably find food, the girl's stomach was as persistent as a fly trying to get in through a closed window.

Fox turned to me, and I wondered what she was going to say next, then she headed over to a bench near the wall and sat down on it.

"Hey, Greene," she started.

"Yes?"

"Seems we're back at square one, huh?" she replied.

I wondered what she meant by that for a moment, then she elaborated.

"Victoria's acting oblivious to this weird thing you two have going on, and I'm too anxious to tell Margo that I love her,"

"Wait...you love Margo?"

Fox just nodded, with a small smile on her face.

"I thought it was pretty obvious, Kate," she smirked.

"Maybe to everyone else," I replied.

"You're the queen of oblivious," Fox said.

"Gee thanks," I laughed gently.

Fox and I sat talking about our situations for a few more moments before she had to go and continue some art homework she had been given, it was the time of year that random assignments were given out to each individual student, though I scarcely remembered what mine was.

I really needed to not let Victoria Lace distract me too much from my school work. Then again, it was my problem that I liked her.
