《A Second Chance At Romance》Fifteen

"Guess who's coming over today?" I glanced back at Lexi through the mirror on our way home.
I had just picked her up from daycare when I got a call from my dad telling me he was coming to town to spend the evening with us.
I was excited and I knew she would be too because she loved him to pieces. I think it's because he spoils her all the time.
"Who!?"
"Grandpa." I smiled back at her knowing she was about to be happy.
"Ooo yay, I've missed him."
"Me too."
Just like my brother, I hadn't seen my dad in a while and I was excited that I get to today.
That's all I thought about on the way home while Lexi on the other hand was busy watching a video on my phone.
When we finally made it home I noticed my dad's truck in the driveway and I got so excited! I practically sprinted out of the car after I put it in park and turned off the ignition.
My dad started out of the house and when he saw me a huge smile appeared on his face. Running up to him I embraced him in the biggest hug as I tried to hold back the tears that were starting to form in my eyes.
"Dad, I've missed you so much!"
"I've missed you too sweetheart."
The hug lingered for a little bit until finally, I heard Lexi ask, "What about me?"
"I definitely missed you." He stepped beside me and picked up Lexi who was happy that he missed her too.
"I missed you too." She sang as she threw her arms around his neck.
"I wouldn't have to miss you both all the time if your mom would just agree to move back home." He glanced at me when he said that and I just rolled my eyes in response.
Should've seen that one coming.
Ever since the night Mason cheated on me he's been trying to get me to move back but I just can't it would be unfair of me to move Lexi away from her dad. Not to mention I love it here, I love my job, and most importantly Liam is here.

"Dad I've already told you I can't move Lexi away from Mason. He'd surely hate me then."
"Yeah I know I just wish things were different."
Me too.
"I know dad! But I come and visit you both whenever I can maybe one day when Lexi is grown I'll move back home but until then our home is here."
"I guess I'll be okay with that." He teased as he gave me another hug this time with Lexi included.
"I love you, dad."
"Ooo I love you too," Lexi added not wanting to miss out on telling him how much she loved him.
"I love you, girls, too!"
He then gave both of us a kiss on the cheek before we went inside. Lexi went up to her room and put her stuff away while my dad and I sat on the couch enjoying each other's company.
"So how have things been going?" He asked immediately with a look in his eye that told me he had something he wanted to say.
"Good I suppose. I haven't been doing much lately besides going to work and home."
"Mama what about Liam? Did you forget about him?"
Should've known Lexi would've been the one to tell. That is if my mom hadn't already told him which I'm betting she did.
"No, I didn't forget about Liam."
That seemed to intrigue my dad as he raised a questioning eyebrow waiting for me to explain.
"Good cause I like him!"
"You only met him for a little bit." I pointed out, "how could you already like him?"
"Because he makes you happy."
He sure does make me happy but I didn't think she noticed. She really did only spend a little bit of time with him.
"Tell me a little bit about him." My dad asked her instead of me knowing she'd tell him more.
"We-"
"Lexi I think I ought to tell him." I interrupted her as she frowned because I wouldn't let her.
I was afraid to hear what she was going to say honestly.

"Okay."
She folded her hands over her chest while I caught my dad up on Liam. I wasn't going to go into a whole lot of detail.
"He's the best dad. I know I haven't known him long but he does make me happy and he's helped me to move on from Mason."
"I'm glad to hear that sweetheart. You need someone who's going to treat you right and love doesn't have a timeline. It just happens."
"Ooo mama is in loveeee."
I was not in love. I just liked Liam there's a difference.
"Yeah I know but I'm scared to fall back in love too fast. I made that mistake with Mason and I don't think I can go through heartbreak like that again."
"And I am not in loveee," I confessed to Lexi as I dragged out the word love as she had done.
"Whatever you say." She giggled curling up on the couch close to my dad who wrapped his arm around her as he continued the conversation.
"Listen Savannah I'm sorry your feeling this way and I'd do anything to go back and change things for you but I can't. As much as I want to take away your pain. Things will work themselves out and you will find someone worthy of your love because you're the most kindest and loving person ever."
"You'll find someone to love you I just know it."
At that point I let a few tears slide down my face and the kind words my dad spoke. I was thankful I had him and my amazing family by my side this entire time. I don't think I would've gotten over Mason if it wasn't for them.
"Don't cry mama, I love you."
"I love you too Lexi."
If all else fails she and her love will be all that matters.
"And dad," I glanced back over at him "thank you for the kind words they mean a lot to me. I will wait around forever if I need just to have a relationship like yours and moms."
Their relationship is one that I would die to have. I thought Mason and I were like that but boy was I wrong.
"You're welcome and I meant every word. One day you will find a love like your mom and I and it will be worth it. Maybe this Liam guy is that special someone."
I hope so because he's everything I've ever wanted.
"Maybe he is I just don't know yet."
"Whenever you find out I hope you will introduce him to your mom and me. We'd love to meet him."
"I know and I can't wait for you to meet him."
"I've met him grandpa and he is dreamy like Kristoff."
My dad was a little confused about who Kristoff was and I had to explain to him that he was just a character from Lexi's favorite movie.
She's my daughter all right because I find Liam dreamy too.
"Alright, then ladies what are we doing about dinner?" He asked Lexi and me as we tried to decide.
"You're the guest you decide."
"If it's my choice then I guess I'll just make us something. You okay with homemade lasagna?"
"That's fine anything you want to make is good with me. We both like your lasagna."
"Alright, then it's settled. Do you have everything I need to make it or do I need to go to the store?"
"No, I should have everything you'll need."
"Great so let's get it started because I'm hungry."
Leaving Lexi in the living room to watch tv like she wanted he and I went into the kitchen as he started on dinner.
I was upset when he left and it made me realize how much I missed him and my family.
At least I get to see them this weekend.

The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.
