《A Second Chance At Romance》Twelve

The next morning when I woke up I was ecstatic that my date went perfectly last night. Towards the end of the night, I felt like I'd known him for a lifetime, it was quite weird.

I was sad when it was over but the goodnight kiss made it worthwhile.

And I didn't care that we had been on one date I felt somewhat of a connection so to hell with what everyone else says.

We had just gotten back to my house after an amazing dinner and drive and I was not looking forward to ending this night. Liam had already made it the best date that I'd had in a long time.

"I had a nice time, thank you for everything you did tonight." I thanked him as he walked me to the door.

"I'm glad you had a nice time because I did too." He grinned as he stood there looking me in the eyes and I couldn't help but blush.

"We should do this all again tomorrow night if you're free that is."

What a nice idea.

I am free after all.

"I'd like that."

"It's a date. I'll text you in the morning then."

With that, he took a step closer and closed the gap between us and I started to get nervous.

Was he going to kiss me?

He looked up at me and then down at my lips and that was all I needed to know before I closed the space between us and our lips met.

Liam's lips were soft against mine and it was heavenly as our lips moved in sync. I never wanted the kiss to end but it did although it wasn't a simple kiss it was more like a heated kiss. Something I'd be reliving for some time.

When we both pulled away we shared the same smile of happiness.

Oh, what a night!

When I went inside last night I just kept thinking about the kiss and the fact that he and I were going to be spending time together tonight.

I thought it would be nice if we stayed in and watched a movie and he agreed.

At first, I was going to buy a bunch of snacks then decided it would be better if we just ordered takeout. I asked him what he would prefer and he suggested Chinese which sounded good to me.

To keep myself occupied until then I went ahead and grabbed a change of clothes and headed into my en-suite bathroom to get a shower. I had a couple of things to do until then including cleaning my house.

Being an adult sucked sometimes.

With Taylor Swift blaring through my phone I began to wash my hair and body until finally I was finished. Once I had gotten out I dried off and then got dressed it was just something casual because I was not about to clean in jeans so instead I threw on a pair of leggings and a large t-shirt.

I want to be as comfy as possible.

With that I started on my bedroom, making my bed and all that fun stuff before continuing to Lexi's room. It wasn't really that messy since she knew how to clean up after herself and I thank God for that.

Just as I was about to finish up her room I heard my phone begin to ring so I quickly went back to my room to answer it. When I read the caller id I noticed it was Mallory, Ellie's mom.

Please do not let anything be wrong with Lexi.

Answering the call I prayed it wasn't anything serious.

"Hello?" I greeted her almost immediately waiting on what it was that she needed.

"Hey, Savannah I'm sorry to bother you but Lexi isn't feeling very well. I think she and Ellie must have a stomach bug or something. Although it could've been something they ate too so I'm not sure."

My poor baby.

"It's no bother at all. I'll be there to pick her up in twenty."

"Okay I'll help her pack up her things and we'll see you when you get here."

Hanging up the phone I grabbed my purse and headed out the door in a hurry setting aside what I needed to do to attend to my baby girl.

The drive was quick as I was determined to get to Mallory's house and thankfully I did. I approached the front door and rang the doorbell as I waited for her or someone to answer it and they did.

"Savannah, please come in," Mallory said opening the door up for me to come inside which I did.

Standing in her living room she turned to me and told me to give her a minute while she went and got Lexi.

"I'll just be a minute." Mallory disappeared down the hall and returned a minute later with Lexi trailing not far behind looking pale.

Good thing I was a nurse and knew how to handle the situation.

"Mama." Lexi happily said when she saw me.

I outstretched my arms for her as she approached me and embraced me in a hug like she hadn't seen me in a week.

"Hey sweetheart, how are you feeling?"

"My stomach and my head hurt."

"I know and I'm sorry. When we get home I'll make you some homemade soup and put you to bed we can even watch frozen if you want."

"Yay."

That was all she said before she pulled away from the hug while Mallory began to speak.

"Like I said I'm not quite sure what it is she just started feeling sick this morning, as did Ellie."

"I'm sure it's just a cold so they should be fine but if her symptoms or something starts to seem off I'd take her to the emergency room. Until then I'd just give her some cold and flu medicine."

"Thanks for that. I'll be sure to give her some medicine and keep a close eye on her."

"It's no problem at all."

Lexi and I then said our goodbyes to her before we went out to my car and back to the house. When we got home I grabbed her things out of the car and we headed inside.

"Mama, are you okay?" Lexi asked me when we got to her room.

It should be me asking her that not the other way around.

"Of course sweetheart why wouldn't I be? Besides I should be asking you that since you are the one that's sick."

"I dunno you just looked sad."

How did I get such a caring daughter?

"Trust me I'm fine." I smiled back at her, "now I'm going to go get you some medicine, and then I'll make you some soup, okay?"

"Okay."

Leaving her bedroom for a brief moment I went down to the kitchen and got the children's medicine out of the cabinet. By the time I got back to her room, she was tucked in her bed waiting on me.

Whenever she took the medicine she made a disgusted face.

"Yuck mama that's gross."

"How it's grape flavored you love grape flavored stuff."

"Yeah not anymore."

What does she mean she doesn't like it anymore? Three days ago she had grape juice and she went on and on about loving it.

"How come?"

"Because my boyfriend Jason doesn't like them."

Hold up....boyfriend?

When the heck did this happen?

"Lexi, sweetheart that's not how that works. You're not supposed to change your likes and dislikes based on a boy and since when did you get a boyfriend?"

Covering up her face with the blanket she ignored me until I grabbed ahold of it to pry it away from her tiny hands.

"When did this happen?" I asked yet again.

"Uh, Friday."

Good grief.

"Don't you think your a little too young to have a boyfriend?"

Because I sure do!

"No!" She crossed her arms ready to give me an explanation that I was just dying to hear.

"Ellie is dating Josh and now I'm dating Jason. If she can date I surely can."

"Goodness gracious child. That's certainly not how that works." I laughed back at her response as she gave me a confused look.

"Why not?"

"You don't just date someone because someone else is you date them because you actually have feelings and eventually grow to love them." I explained the best I could, "do you understand?"

With a small nod, she said, "yes mama, but I got a question did you and daddy date and then fall in love before you married him?"

"I sure did. It only took me a few months to figure out that I had fallen in love with him."

But that love slowly died. Oh how much I wish it hadn't.

The next question she asked is what I dreaded.

"And you don't love him anymore?"

The next day after I had found him with Carmen she asked me why we were leaving and I just told her that we were separating due to the both of us falling out of love.

That was true now.

Mason probably fell out of love before he cheated but not me.

Answering her honestly I said, "No sweetheart."

Her face fell a little and I felt bad but I didn't want to lie to the only person that matters in my life.

"Okay."

Then she proceeded to lie down with her teddy and close her eyes.

I leaned over and kissed her on the head as I said, "sleep, good sweetheart. I'll be right downstairs making your soup if you need anything"

Once I left her room I went straight to the kitchen and began to cook making sure I had every ingredient I needed to make the best soup.

While I was cooking my phone began to ring and I noticed it was my brother, Jeremiah.

Picking it up I greeted him like I always did, "If it isn't my favorite brother."

"I'm your only brother." He added before he laughed at me.

"Sadly." I joked.

Thankfully only had one brother because he was protective of me as it was if I had another it would get crazy. I'm sure they'd both plot against whoever it was I was with.

"Nah, I'm just kidding I love you"

"I love you too, sis." He replied before there was a brief silence, "Anyhow I called to ask you something."

Every time someone did that to me it always had me worried.

"Oh no, what is it?"

"Nothing bad I promise." He assured me which made me feel better.

"Next Saturday is Avery's birthday and we are going to throw her a birthday party at mom's house I was going to make sure you'd be available to come?"

Yeah, I'll be there I wouldn't miss my niece's birthday."

"Great I was hoping you'd say that. And feel free to bring your new man along."

Wait...how did he know?

Mom.

It had to have been her she has a habit of letting things slip.

"Of course, mom told you. You know she's got such a big mouth."

"You'll be okay besides I was the one who kept asking her about it when she visited yesterday. I'd like to meet him anyways before it gets serious because I need to decide whether or not he's good enough for you. You don't need another shitty man in your life."

I didn't but I don't think Liam is like Mason. They seemed like opposites.

"I'll let her slide this time then." I warned, "as for you meeting him we'll see because I haven't introduced him to Lexi yet. Not to mention I'll be the judge of if he's good enough for me you aren't the one who's possibly going to date him."

"Fine sis, just know that whenever it does become serious I want to meet him."

"You'll be the first to know."

He was happy about that by the sound of his voice which was good now he could move on from that topic and onto something better.

"As much as I'd love to continue chatting I've got to go. Laura is making dinner and she needs my help."

By the time he said that I heard her shout at him from the background so that was my cue to hang up but not before saying bye.

"I'll talk to you later."

Ending the call I went back to fixing the soup which didn't have that much longer to cook. Talking to Jeremiah passed the time and it was nice to talk to him I hadn't in over a week.

I've missed not being able to see him and my parents every day.

Maybe sometime in the near future, I'll move back to my hometown.

The timer then went off meaning it was done, so I took it off the stove to let it cool off. I decided while I waited it would be best if I went into the living room and watched a movie. I hadn't gotten very far because the doorbell rang making me jump.

Rushing over to the door I threw it open and there stood Liam looking good in the shirt that complimented his muscular arms and those abs of his. Being a cop sure did make him fit.

I was so busy admiring him that I didn't notice he had started talking.

Talk about embarrassing...

"Earth to Savannah." He smirked knowing exactly what I was doing which made it worse.

Looking back up to meet his gaze I smiled sweetly at him, "I'm sorry about that come on in."

Moving out of the doorway I let him inside.

"You're cute, not to mention you look like your very comfortable."

He glanced down at me and then I did the same and noticed I hadn't changed my clothes. Not to mention my hair was in a messy bun and I'm sure it looked horrible and he was just lying when he said I looked cute.

I'd hate to see what I look like.

"Thanks for that compliment and yes I am. I had stuff to do today so I decided to wear this but I hadn't been able to clean since my daughter Lexi is sick. So don't judge when I invite you in and you see how my house looks." I warned him even though it wasn't that bad it just didn't look that great either.

"That's alright I'm sure my apartment looks worse though, but I promise I'm not going to judge I just hope Lexi is alright."

"Eh I doubt it but I haven't seen it so I'm not sure and as for Lexi I think she's just got a cold or something." I informed him, "I've made her some homemade soup to eat just as soon as she gets up."

Her little voice was then heard from behind me, "I'm up now."

Walking straight passed me she approached Liam and placed her arms over her chest and confidently said, "And who are you?"

"Hopefully my mom's boyfriend."

I'm back everyone sorry I made you wait a bit for another update but here you go!

I hope you enjoyed it, and since I took so long to put this chapter up I made it a little longer than others.

Just an FYI I'm thinking about changing Savannah's career so don't be confused once I change it.
