"You look beautiful tonight," Liam spoke softly as he opened up the door for me.

Such a gentleman, that's a plus.

"Thank you." I smiled back at him while getting inside, "and you look very handsome."

Do some women even compliment men by saying they look handsome?

I don't want it to be weird.

"Thanks I tried to make myself look presentable for our night out."

You sure did.

Once he shut the car door he walked back to the driver's side and got in and then we were on our way. At first, it was a little awkward and quiet but after a couple of minutes, we jumped into an interesting conversation.

It was easy to talk to him and that's something I liked.

"I've always wanted to be a cop even when I was little. A part of me just thought it was so cool to wear the uniform and drive around in the car but it wasn't until I turned seventeen that I really wanted to go through with it."

"That does sound kind of cool so I see why you'd think that but what happened when you were seventeen that made you decide if you don't mind me asking?"

The car suddenly went silent and I knew that what I had asked him must've been something that he didn't want to talk about.

I just wonder what it could be.

"It's okay if you don't want to tell me heck we practically just met I'd completely understand." I glanced over at him with worried eyes that I had upset him.

He was silent for a second longer until finally, he spoke, "I'm sorry about that it's just hard to talk about you know."

"That's okay like I said you don't have to tell me."

I should've never asked for details had I known it was going to be something that he wasn't comfortable talking about.

Right after that, it grew silent once more until I decided to change the subject altogether.

"So that niece of yours sure is cute."

Liam then relaxed his shoulders a little bit as he began to tell me about her.

"She sure is a piece of work just like her mom." he chuckled as he glanced over at me with a smile "but she's also the smartest little girl I know. Your daughter Lexi sure does look like you."

What a nice compliment.

This is the first time I've ever heard that come from someone. Usually, when we are out together everyone always said she looked like Mason.

"Thanks for that usually people say she looks like my ex-husband but has my attitude."

"Well I haven't seen him so I couldn't tell you but she does look like you in my opinion."

"I'm glad she got her looks from me."

Although she does have her dad's eyes.

"I bet, well here we are." He announced as we pulled into the parking lot that was filled with cars.

I'm glad he made a reservation because there sure were a lot of people.

The both of us got out after he had put the car in park and headed towards the building. Once again he opened the door up for me to walk in and then he followed behind.

"Thank you for that." I thanked him.

"No need to thank me I'm just trying to be the gentleman my mom raised me to be."

Just as I was about to say something to him the host up front asked for the name.

"It should be under Liam Harris."

The guy nodded as he looked down and scanned the sheet of paper for a brief second until he finally found the name and looked back up at Liam and me.

"Right this way."

I trailed right behind them until we finally reached the table. When we got to the table, I went to take a seat but stopped in front of the table as he pulled out the chair for me without me having to ask.

I could get used to this.

Mason never did this for me so I didn't expect Liam to but I appreciated it.

"M'lady."

"Why thank you, sir."

I chuckled as he joined in before taking a seat across from me and looking over the menu.

I had been here once before and I had completely forgotten how expensive the food was. I was shocked when I read the price under what I wanted.

Should I spend twenty-seven dollars on a freaking dish?

If he's paying for this date I might need to move to a cheaper option I don't want to make him spend a lot of money on a meal for me and him.

I could just go with a salad.

"You okay?" He asked as I looked up at him and raised an eyebrow, "you look stunned for some reason."

Duh, the prices are ridiculous, but I guess it's something I should've seen coming.

"Oh yeah, I just forgot how expensive this place was," I confessed while shutting my menu having decided what I wanted.

"Yeah it's a little pricey but I knew that when I chose it. I want to make your evening special so get whatever you want on me. I am your date after all."

"That makes me feel a whole lot better, thank you."

"You're welcome."

By that time our waitress had arrived ready to get our drink and dinner order. I let Liam go first and then I did.

"I'll have the chopped steak with the roasted asparagus and water."

After writing down what he said wanted she turned to me as I spoke up and told her exactly what I wanted.

"And I'll take the shrimp fettuccine and water."

Although I could use a glass of freaking wine. I guess I could wait until I got back home.

"Okay great!" She said scribbling down our order on her notepad, "I'll get that put in for you."

Once she was gone from the table I turned my attention back to him and we continued talking.

He wanted to get to know one another so I didn't leave anything out.

"So Savannah tell me about yourself."

"Well let's see my name is Savannah Miller obviously, I have a daughter named Lexi and I am recently divorced due to my ex cheating on me with an ex-friend of mine."

The last part seemed to have surprised him like it did when I told him I was married before.

"I also have an older brother," I told him before moving on to him, "what about you, anything I don't know about you?"

Besides him having a sister and being a cop.

"Let's see my full name is Liam Alexander Harris, I have two sisters one you've already met and the others name is Harper. I also became a cop because I wanted to keep my fathers legacy alive."

Oh, so that's why he was so sad in the car when I questioned why he had become a cop.

The last part made me feel bad so I reached my hand across the table and placed it on his. The gesture made him smile and it looked like it made him feel a little better.

"One night when I was 17 my dad was on duty and had gotten a call about a shooting going on at a mall. He quickly rushed down there but not before calling my mom and telling us that he loved us. It was often something he did when he went on duty if it was something serious."

I could tell it hurt to relive that night by the frown on his face and I just wish he didn't feel obligated to tell me. It seemed personal and this was our first date he could've waited until he felt more comfortable.

"It hurts to know that it was the last time we'd ever talk to him. At least I got to tell him I loved him and from that moment forward I knew I always wanted to do something he loved and that was perusing a career in law enforcement."

"That's nice of you to go into the same career field as him. I'm sure he'd very proud of you."

"Thank you those words mean a lot coming from you."

"You're so very welcome."

From that moment on I knew that I felt something special for him that I hadn't felt for anyone not even Mason.
